• Domain files download upon opening

  I'm having this wierd issue with my Domain. My domain is saoo.eu hosted on HostZilla. The issue is that whenever I open an html/php file it automatically downloads it instead of opening it into the browser. Example the saoo.eu/test.html page. Same thing happens with the index.html file. What is going on? Also if I want an PHP code ran into an HTML file I have to add an .htaccess file. But it doesn't seem to work. Tested it before.

• .html extension or no for SEO purposes

  I know this question has been asked before on Stack Overflow, but what I have not been able to find in the posts I've read are concrete references as to WHY one is better than the other (something I can take to my boss). So I'm working on an MVC 3 application that is basically a rewrite of the existing production application (web forms) using MVC. The current site uses a URL rewriter to rewrite "friendly" urls with HTML extensions to their ASPX counterpart. i.e. http://www.site.com/products/18554-widget.html gets rewritten to http://www.site.com/products.aspx?id=18554 We're moving away from this with the MVC site, but the powers that be still want the HTML extension on the URLs. As a developer, that just feels wrong on an MVC site. I've written a quick and dirty HttpModule that will perform a 301 redirect from the .html URL to the same URL without the .html extension and it works fine, but I need to convince management that removing the .html extension is not going to hurt SEO. I'd prefer to have this sort of friendly URL: http://www.site.com/products/18554-widget Can anyone provide information to back up my position or am I actually trying to do something that WOULD hurt SEO, in which case can you provide references on that?

• Scripting language for filling out web form

  I have a job as an intern at a technology company, I was given the unfortunate job of performing some data entry into our web management system. The information entered into the web form is stored in a MySQL DB. Upon receiving the data I realized I would have to submit this online form about 1000 different times all consisting of about 10 different text fields / check boxes per form. (So in other words, would be completely mind numbing and be a ridiculous waste of time and resources, or so I thought...) Having used databases a good bit prior to this, my immediate reaction was to just write a short MySQL script to bulk import all of the data, especially since it was already presented to me in an excel spreadsheet ready to go. Thought it may have been some sort of a test since it seemed too obvious. I wrote the script which consisted of about 10 lines of code but was then informed I couldn't be trusted with MySQL Admin privileges to run said script. So my next thought would be to write a script to just enter the information through the web form (Which will take ten times longer but it's what I have to) Being unfamiliar with scripting of this nature (seems like I would need something similar to a bot, but the good kind) I was unsure of how to proceed to do this. Is there a preferred language to use to enter the data i have into the web form I do have access to? I'm not particularly looking for this to be done for me by any means just a nice point in the right direction as far as what scripting language to use and how to pair that with the data I have that needs to be entered. Thanks for the help/ valuable input! EDIT: Is there a way to perform this using perl without having access to place any files on the server? Would I be able to run some Javascript loops to pull the data out of .csv or just a .txt format with line delimiters and insert it into the web form?

  My question is what is the subject area that covers web page execution/loading. I am looking to purchase a book by subject area that covers when things execute or load in a web page, whether it's straight html, html and Javascript, or a PHP page. Is that topic covered by a detailed html book, or should I expect to find information like that in a JavaScript of PHP book? I understand that PHP and Perl execute on the server and that Javascript is client side, and I know there is a lot of on-line documentation describing <html>, <head>, <body>, and so on. I'm just wondering what subject area a book would be in to cover all that, not a discussion of the best book or someone's favorite book, but the subject area.

• How do you deal with web designers who are too afraid to read and touch PHP code?

  I've been hired to make a website and am working with a designer (who happens to be the guy who is in contact with the client and hired me, so no, I can't kick his ass out =) ) who's too afraid to touch into the php code, and is too newbie in html and css to give me good enough models, so the work of today will be going through his new html model of a half-programmed page and removing s and changing classes and the such. Is there some kind of tool, or some better workflow in order to make this easier for both of us? maybe I'm dealing with this the wrong way altogether, I'm new to web development, and I don't know enough html/css (and he supposedly does) to have him just give me a graphic mock-up and do the whole thing, so what we're doing is he gives me a static html page that looks like he wants, and I put around it =) can anyone give me some advice on this?

• Nginx: Disallow index.html in URL

  We're generating a site consisting of only static files (using Assemble). Having the .html extension on URLs looks so nineties, so we generate every static HTML file in its own directory and call it index.html. For example, the url http://www.example.com/foo/bar/ is in the file /var/www/foo/bar/index.html. This works well, but there is one small thing nagging me: Now there are two possible URLs to the same resource: http://www.example.com/foo/bar/ (slash URL) http://www.example.com/foo/bar/index.html (index.html URL) By accident someone may link to the index.html form of the URL, which is bad for SEO and looks ugly (remember the nineties?). Is it possible in Nginx to give a 404 error on the index.html URL, but serve the slash URL? I tried this: location ~ /index\.html$ { return 404; } But it seems that Nginx does some internal rewrite of the slash URL to the index.html URL, and then matches this location so we get a 404 even on the slash URL. Note that to catch mistakes, we want index.html URLs to be an error, not just redirect to the slash URL.

  Say I have to have terms of use on site, a place the text as marked up html. Where it is better to prepare this document initially if it is going to placed to the web? Considering that such documents are prepared and changed by lawyers, it is not very applicable for them to use text editor. And it is not very efficient to manually process content to prepare it for the web as it is changed. For now my solution is: Prepare document text in google docs keeping some simple structure (title, ordered lit of features, simple paragraphs), save as html (it will contain some unnecessary markup) and then use custom conversion tool (some script) to convert saved html from google docs to simple html and inject new version to the site. What is common practiceses for this problem? What is the workflow of preparing and publishing such documents.

• how can I retrieve an html document from a url from javascript?

  Hi, I have a url and I want to retrieve the html dom generated when going to the url (all the code for the page) in a javascript variable. How can I do this? I'm guessing an html get or post? Can anyone give an example with jQuery? Every time I do a $.get or $.post like this: $.get("http://www.google.ca", function(result) { alert(result); alert($(result).html()); }); $.post("http://www.google.ca", function(result) { alert(result); alert($(result).html()); }, "xml"); the first alert in each call comes up blank and the second comes up as null. • Why is my asp.net mvc form POSTing instead of GETting?

Instead, it appears that the form is submitting by a post request. When I look at the generated HTML, I have this: <form action="/find/AdminMember/MemberList" method="post"> Search for in Screen Name and Email: <input id="keyword" name="keyword" type="text" value="" /> <button type=submit>Search</button> </form> Does anyone know why? This seems pretty simple and straighforward to me.

• Support clicking a link, but sending a POST (vs GET) to the server, without Ajax?

  I'm thinking this isn't exactly possible, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm simply torn between those who believe that only POST requests should modify data on the server and people that relax the rule and allow GET requests to modify data. Take this situation. Say you have a table, each row is a row in the database. I'd like to allow them to delete the row via a fancy "X" icon as the very last <td></td> element in the row. AFAIK, the only way to send a POST to the server is via a form. But do I really stuff an entire form into the last <td></td> element just to do a POST? Or should I cheat and use an <a href=...></a> tag that sends a GET request? You may be thinking "Do both! Send a POST AND use the <a ...></a> tag! Use fancy javascript + xhr!" And I'll say, oh? And how will that degrade in a zero javascript environment? Maybe we've reached a point when it doesn't make sense to worry about gracefully degrading? I'm not sure. You tell me? I'm new to web development, but I understand most of the concepts involved.

Issue: right now anyone can directly type example.com/process.php to access my process page, or type example.com/process.php/var1=foo1&var2=foo2 to emulate a form submission. How do I prevent this from happening? Also, in the Ajax code I specified POST. What is the difference here between POST and GET?

• Can't save data for a member in a data form

  Implied sharing is an old thing everyone knows the reasons and solutions of that, still little theory about that: With Essbase implied sharing, some members are shared even if you do not explicitly set them as shared. These members are implied shared members. When an implied share relationship is created, each implied member assumes the other member’s value. Essbase assumes (or implies) a shared member relationship in these situations: 1. A parent has only one child 2. A parent has only one child that consolidates to the parent In a Planning form that contains members with an implied sharing relationship, when a value is added for the parent, the child assumes the same value after the form is saved. Likewise, if a value is added for the child, the parent usually assumes the same value after a form is saved.For example, when a calculation script or load rule populates an implied share member, the other implied share member assumes the value of the member populated by the calculation script or load rule. The last value calculated or imported takes precedence. The result is the same whether you refer to the parent or the child as a variable in a calculation script. A dynamic calc parent to a single child:  If we design the form with following selection: In the data form we will find parent below the member and this is by design whenever you make a selection using commands to select all the member below parent, always children will appear before the parent: Lets try to enter data, Save it Now, try to change the way we selected members Here we go: Now the question again why this behavior: 1. Data from Planning data form passes to Essbase row by row, 2. Because in data form the child member appears before the parent, 3. First, data goes to Essbase for child (SingleStoreChild), 4. Then when Planning passes the data for parent there was #Missing or No data,  5. Over writes the data to #missing. PS: As we know that dynamic calc members are calculated on the fly they are not allocated with any memory in the Essbase, here the parent was dynamic calc and it was pointing to same memory as child in the background, when Planning was passing data to Essbase for second row it has updated the child with missing data.(Little confusing, let me know if you need more explanation) 6.   Hello guys, i have a web form who send post variables like: <form action="teacher.php" method="post"> <input name="pass" type="password"> <input name="quiere" type="image" value="submit" src="IMG/unlock-32.png" /> </from> In the same page i check for a submit acction with php doing a simple isset check like: "if (isset($_POST['quiere'])) {" But if you do this in IE the post var "QUIERE" (the button var) does not post, the others vars are fine, and if you try this simple form in any other browser it works. I only get this form function well in IE changing the button for a normal button, instead of a image button like: <input name="quiere" type="submit" value="submit" /> In this way, the var "quiere" get post. So, what do you think? and sorry for my english.

• Flex - How do I get the absolute X and Y coordinate including HTML offset?

  Hey everyone, I am calling a JS function through the ExternalInterface using Flex which requires the absolute X and Y coordinates to create a pop-up menu. The Flex application is displayed on the center of an HTML page, therefore there is an HTML X and Y offset to consider. I have tried using the LocalToGlobal and ContentToGlobal functions, but these are just giving me the X and Y coordinates relative to the Flex application, it is not considering the HTML X and Y offset of having the Flex app in the center of the page or varying different screen resolutions. Is the best approach to retrieve the HTML X and Y offset using JavaScript? Is there a Flex function I can use that provides the absolute X and Y coordinates based on the HTML page? Thanks!

  I have a single model in CakePHP that has multiple forms on different pages of the site that I would like to validate differently even where the field name is the same - I have discovered that you can set 'on' to create|update which has been a handy discovery but I am wondering if there is any other way of explicitly declaring rules based on the form that was submitted? Just to rephrase for clarity, form a and form b contain fields of the same name, but if form a is submitted the fields in question should be validated differently than if they were submitted from form b. Possible?

  Hello, according to the HTML Standards ID-Attributes of any HTML Tag in a webpage have to be unique in the document!? Does this rule also apply to HTML Tags that have been "disabled/hidden" by using: display:none? Example: <html> <body> <div id="one"></div> <div id="one" style="display:none;"></div> </body> </hmtl> Is this valid HTML or not. • Why does placing this html within form tags change the layout?

  I'm using this free Web Template - EliteCircle and have just incorporated it into a master page. The master page wraps the html in: <form id="form1" runat="server"> //master page html </form> The template almost comes out fine except the entire page is surrounded by a think white border (default CSS behavior for form?) and the footer background is half white on the very bottom. I wouldn't expect the form with id=form1 to change anything in the layout. There is nothing in the [CSS][2] with that id. When I remove the form tags from the master page (just to check) the layout is perfect, no problems. Any ideas?
