  • multiple records using the select_tag

    I'm attempting to display multiple records, with each record displaying its own selection box. I would like to submit this form and pass a hash, having the Add.id function as the key of the hash, and the selection box option pass as the information in the hash.   • Selecting the most common value from relation - SQL statement

    I have a table within my database that has many records, some records share the same value for one of the columns. e.g. | id | name | software | ______________________________ | 1 | john | photoshop | | 2 | paul | photoshop | | 3 | gary | textmate | | 4 | ade | fireworks | | 5 | fred | textmate | | 6 | bob | photoshop | I would like to return the value of the most common occurring piece of software, by using an SQL statement. So in the example above the required SQL statement would return 'photoshop' as it occurs more than any other piece of software. Is this possible? Thank you for your time.

    This is a complicated situation (for me) that I'm hopeful someone on here can help me with. I've done plenty of searching for a solution and have not been able to locate one. This is essentially my situation... (I've trimmed it down because if someone can help me to create this query I can take it from there.) TABLE articles (article_id, article_title) TABLE articles_tags (row_id, article_id, tag_id) TABLE article_categories (row_id, article_id, category_id) All of the tables have article_id in common. I know what all of the tag_id and category_id rows are. What I want to do is return a list of all the articles that article_tags and article_categories MAY have in common, ordered by the number of common entries. For example: article1 - tags: tag1, tag2, tag3 - categories: cat1, cat2 article2 - tags: tag2 - categories: cat1, cat2 article3 - tags: tag1, tag3 - categories: cat1 So if my article had "tag1" and "cat1 and cat2" it should return the articles in this order: article1 (tag1, cat1 and cat2 in common) article3 (tag1, cat1 in common) article2 (cat1 in common) Any help would genuinely be appreciated!     I have a time_select in which I am trying to set a time value as follows; <%= f.time_select :start_time, :value => (@invoice.start_time ? @invoice.start_time : Time.now) %> This always produces a time selector with the current time rather than the value for @invoice.start_time. @invoice.start_time is in fact a datetime object but this is passed to the time selector just fine if I use <%= f.time_select :start_time %> I guess what I'm really asking is how to use the :value option with the time_select helper. Attempts like the following don't seem to produce the desired result; <%= f.time_select :start_time, :value => (Time.now + 2.hours) %> <%= f.time_select :start_time, :value => "14:30" %>

I have a pre-existing query (stored procedure) that returns items based on 3 specific ID's. What I want to do is to be able to reduce the results even further based upon a column within the results having the exact same string. But when you hover over the text the little thumbnail shows up and makes it easy to recognize the color. The problem is I haven't got a clue how to get the src for the thumbnail. I don't know how to extract the src from the img inside the selected element. I've tried various combinations using the this keyword, but nothing seemed to work. I've also tried to add the src path as a rel attribute to the label, but also without any success. Should be needless to say I also control the PHP-output... I really hope you can help me.     An inexperienced question: I need to store about 10 unknown-length text fields per record into a MySQL table. I expect no more than 50K rows in total for this table but speed is important. The database actions will be solely SELECTs for all practical purposes. I'm using InnoDB. In other words: id | text1 | text2 | text3 | .... | text10 As I understand that MySQL will store the text elsewhere and use its own indicators on the table itself, I'm wondering whether there's any fundamental performance implications that I should be worrying about given the way the data is stored? (i.e. several "sub-fetches" from the table). Thank you.

    I am using php includes to limit redundancy on my pages, how can I have my navigation have the current page selected with say a certain color for the HOME button when my navigation is called from a header.php file. If i were to say to add a "active" class to the home.php item and add a style so it looked different, that would happen across the board for all my pages, which is why I am using includes in the first place, how can I have one header.php file with my navigation, that also allows each page the ability to show the current page you are on reflected in the navigation?     Okay, I'm fairly new to R and I've tried to search the documentation for what I need to do but here is the problem. I have a data.frame called heeds.data in the following form (some columns omitted for simplicity) eval.num, eval.count, ... fitness, fitness.mean, green.h.0, green.v.0, offset.0, green.h.1, green.v.1,...green.h.7, green.v.7, offset.7... And I have selected a row meeting the following criteria: best.fitness <- min(heeds.data$fitness.mean[heeds.data$eval.count = 10]) best.row <- heeds.data[heeds.data$fitness.mean == best.fitness] Now, what I want are all of the other rows with that have columns green.h.0 to offset.7 (a contiguous section of columns) equal to the best.row Basically I'm looking for rows that have some of the conditions the same as the "best" row. I thought I could just do this, heeds.best <- heeds.data$fitness[ heeds.data$green.h.0 == best.row$green.h.0 & ... ] But with 24 columns it seems like a stupid method. Looking for something a bit simpler with less manual typing. Thanks!

  • Does CSS have a "start over" feature?

    I'm using calendar_date_select (henceforth CDS) in a Rails application, and have a stupid question. When I embed the CDS component in the middle of an already-CSS-styled page, all manner of things go ugly-wrong with it (spacing, fonts, etc.). Clearly the elements inside the CDS have inherited unwanted stuff from the styles already working in the containing page. Now, I could use a combination of, say, Safari's CSS debugging and analyze what's wrong element-by-element. But that's (A) tedious, and (B) might load up my component's styles with tons of container-defeating special cases. If nothing else, I'm certain to change the containing page's styles in the future and would have to maintain the special cases. My question: Is is possible to have a DIV in a page that essentially backs out all the existing styling? Is there a simple one-liner that will do this? Failing that, can it be done on an element-by-element basis? E.g. I know what tags the CDS generates, so I could list each of them: { p: "#--NOTHING--#"; a: "#--NOTHING--#"; } where #--NOTHING--# is the Magic Turn Off All Inherited Styles incantation. http://code.google.com/p/calendardateselect/ Thanks, peeps.

    Hi all, I ran into a problem with Hibernate concerning queries on classes which use inheritance. Basically I've the following class hierarchy: @Entity @Table( name = "recording" ) class Recording { ClassA attributeSet; ... } @Entity @Inheritance( strategy = InheritanceType.JOINED ) @Table( name = "classA" ) public class ClassA { String Id; ... } @Entity @Table( name = "ClassB1" ) @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn( name = "Id" ) public class ClassB1 extends ClassA { private Double P1300; private Double P2000; } @Entity @Table( name = "ClassB2" ) @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn( name = "Id" ) public class ClassB2 extends ClassA { private Double P1300; private Double P3000; } The hierarchy is already given like this and I cannot change it easily. As you can see ClassB1 and ClassB2 inherit from ClassA. Both classes contain a set of attributes which sometimes even have the same names (but I can't move them to ClassA since there are possible more sub-classes which do not use them). The Recording class references one instance of one of this classes. Now my question: What I want to do is selecting all Recording objects in my database which refer to an instance of either ClassB1 or ClassB2 with e.g. the field P1300 == 15.5 (so this could be ClassB1 or ClassB2 instances since the P1300 attribute is declared in both classes). What I tried is something like this: Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(Recording.class); criteria.add( Restrictions.eq( "attributeSet.P1300", new Double(15.5) ) ); criteria.list(); But since P1300 is not an attribute of ClassA hibernate throws an exception telling me: could not resolve property: P1300 of: ClassA How can I tell hibernate that it should search in all subclasses to find the attribute I want to filter? Trying to put this into English, I want to group consecutive records with the same 'Source' together, then printing out a single record per group showing the highest time offset in that group, the source, and the sum of the lengths in that group. The TimeOffset values will always increase. I suspect this is possible in R, but I really don't know where to start. In a pinch I could export the data frame out and do it in e.g. Python, but I'd prefer to stay within R if possible. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide

Trying to put this into English, I want to group consecutive records with the same 'Source' and 'Target' together, then print out a single record per group showing the StartTime, EndTime & Duration (=EndTime-StartTime) for that group, along with the sum of the Lengths for that group, and a concatenation of the Content (which will all be strings) in that group. The TimeOffset values will always increase throughout the data frame. I had a look at melt/recast and have a feeling that it could be used to solve the problem, but couldn't get my head around the documentation. I suspect it's possible to do this within R, but I really don't know where to start.
