  • Binding menu items to a sitemap.

    - by Ricardo Deano
    Hello all..this is driving me nuts. I have a navigation menu I would like to display based upon user roles (using.net membership) After several hours and headaches (from banging my head against the desk) I was wondering if someone can point me in the error of my ways. Page: <body> <form runat="server"> <div class="page"> <div class="header"> <div class="loginDisplay"> <asp:LoginView ID="HeadLoginView" runat="server" EnableViewState="false"> <AnonymousTemplate> <a href="~/Login.aspx" ID="HeadLoginStatus" runat="server">Log In</a> </AnonymousTemplate> <LoggedInTemplate> Welcome <span class="bold"><asp:LoginName ID="HeadLoginName" runat="server" /></span>! [ <asp:LoginStatus ID="HeadLoginStatus" runat="server" LogoutAction="Redirect" LogoutText="Log Out" LogoutPageUrl="~/Open/Close.aspx"/> ] </LoggedInTemplate> </asp:LoginView> </div> <div class="clear hideSkiplink"> <asp:Menu ID="NavigationMenu" runat="server" CssClass="menu" IncludeStyleBlock="False" Orientation="Horizontal" DataSourceID="AugustSiteMap" /> <asp:SiteMapDataSource ID="AugustSiteMap" runat="server" ShowStartingNode="false"/> </div> </div> SiteMap: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0" > <siteMapNode url="~/Default.aspx" title="Home" description="Home"> <siteMapNode title="Open Pages" description="Open Pages"> <siteMapNode url="~/Open/Login.aspx" title="Login Page" description="Login Page" roles="*"/> <siteMapNode url="~/Open/Close.aspx" title="Thank you for using Valpak Data Solutions Online Reporting" description="Thank you for using Valpak Data Solutions Online Reporting" roles="*"/> </siteMapNode> <siteMapNode title="Logged In Open Pages" description="Logged In Open Pages"> <siteMapNode url="~/Landing.aspx" title="Landing Page" description="Landing Page" roles="*"/> <siteMapNode url="~/ContactUs.aspx" title="Contact Us" description="Contact Us" roles="*"/> </siteMapNode> <siteMapNode title="Restricted Pages" description="Resticted Pages"> <siteMapNode url="~/Restricted/ProductSearch.aspx" title=" Product Search" description=" Product Search" roles="*"/> <siteMapNode url="~/Restricted/ReportOutput.aspx" title="Report Output" description="Report Output" roles="Admin"/> </siteMapNode> </siteMapNode> </siteMap> Webconfig: <roleManager enabled="true" /> <siteMap defaultProvider="XmlSiteMapProvider" enabled="true"> <providers> <add name="XmlSiteMapProvider" description="AugustSiteMap" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider " siteMapFile="AugustSiteMap.sitemap" securityTrimmingEnabled="true" /> </providers> </siteMap> How can I ensure that when the user is logged in, the appropriate menu items are displayed on the Landing page? Please excuse my ignorance. Still new to all of this and my current method of 'trial and error' has seen me reach suicide levels this morning!

  • Binding DataTable To GridView, But No Rows In GridViewRowCollection Despite GridView Population?

    - by KSwift87
    Problem: I've coded a GridView in the markup in a page. I have coded a DataTable in the code-behind that takes data from a collection of custom objects. I then bind that DataTable to the GridView. (Specific problem mentioned a couple code-snippets below.) GridView Markup: <asp:GridView ID="gvCart" runat="server" CssClass="pList" AutoGenerateColumns="false" DataKeyNames="ProductID"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="ProductID" HeaderText="ProductID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Name" HeaderText="ProductName" /> <asp:ImageField DataImageUrlField="Thumbnail" HeaderText="Thumbnail"></asp:ImageField> <asp:BoundField DataField="Unit Price" HeaderText="Unit Price" /> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Quantity"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="Quantity" runat="server" Text="<%# Bind('Quantity') %>" Width="25px"></asp:TextBox> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:BoundField DataField="Total Price" HeaderText="Total Price" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> DataTable Code-Behind: private void View(List<OrderItem> cart) { DataSet ds = new DataSet(); DataTable dt = ds.Tables.Add("Cart"); if (cart != null) { dt.Columns.Add("ProductID"); dt.Columns.Add("Name"); dt.Columns.Add("Thumbnail"); dt.Columns.Add("Unit Price"); dt.Columns.Add("Quantity"); dt.Columns.Add("Total Price"); foreach (OrderItem item in cart) { DataRow dr = dt.NewRow(); dr["ProductID"] = item.productId.ToString(); dr["Name"] = item.productName; dr["Thumbnail"] = ResolveUrl(item.productThumbnail); dr["Unit Price"] = "$" + item.productPrice.ToString(); dr["Quantity"] = item.productQuantity.ToString(); dr["Total Price"] = "$" + (item.productPrice * item.productQuantity).ToString(); dt.Rows.Add(dr); } gvCart.DataSource = dt; gvCart.DataBind(); gvCart.Width = 500; for (int counter = 0; counter < gvCart.Rows.Count; counter++) { gvCart.Rows[counter].Cells.Add(Common.createCell("<a href='cart.aspx?action=update&prodId=" + gvCart.Rows[counter].Cells[0].Text + "'>Update</a><br /><a href='cart.aspx?action='action=remove&prodId=" + gvCart.Rows[counter].Cells[0].Text + "/>Remove</a>")); } } } Error occurs below in the foreach - the GridViewRowCollection is empty! private void Update(string prodId) { List<OrderItem> cart = (List<OrderItem>)Session["cart"]; int uQty = 0; foreach (GridViewRow gvr in gvCart.Rows) { if (gvr.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow) { if (gvr.Cells[0].Text == prodId) { uQty = int.Parse(((TextBox)gvr.Cells[4].FindControl("Quantity")).Text); } } } Goal: I'm basically trying to find a way to update the data in my GridView (and more importantly my cart Session object) without having to do everything else I've seen online such as utilizing OnRowUpdate, etc. Could someone please tell me why gvCart.Rows is empty and/or how I could accomplish my goal without utilizing OnRowUpdate, etc.? When I execute this code, the GridView gets populated but for some reason I can't access any of its rows in the code-behind.

  • ASP.NET GridView - Cannot set the colour of the row during databind?

    - by Dan
    This is driving me NUTS! It's something that I've done 100s of time with a Datagrid. I'm now using a Gridview and I can't figure this out. I've got this grid: <asp:GridView AutoGenerateColumns="false" runat="server" ID="gvSelect" CssClass="GridViewStyle" GridLines="None" ShowHeader="False" PageSize="20" AllowPaging="True"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="lbldas" Text="blahblah"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> And during the RowDataBound I've tried: Protected Sub gvSelect_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles gvSelect.RowCreated If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then e.Row.Attributes.Add("onMouseOver", "this.style.backgroundColor='lightgrey'") End If End Sub And it NEVER sets the row backcolor.. I've been successful in using: gridrow.Cells(0).BackColor = Drawing.Color.Blue But doing the entire row? NOPE! and it's driving me nuts.. does ANYONE have solution for me? And just for fun I put this on the SAME page: <asp:DataGrid AutoGenerateColumns="false" runat="server" ID="dgSelect" GridLines="None" ShowHeader="False" PageSize="20" AllowPaging="True"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateColumn> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="lbldas" Text="blahblah"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateColumn> </Columns> </asp:DataGrid> And in the ItemDataBound I put: If Not e.Item.ItemType = ListItemType.Header And Not e.Item.ItemType = ListItemType.Footer Then e.Item.Attributes.Add("onMouseOver", "this.style.backgroundColor='lightgrey'") End If And it works as expected.. SO What am I doing wrong with the Gridview? UPDATE ************** I thought I'd post the resulting HTML to show that any styles aren't affecting this. Here's the gridview html: <div class="AspNet-GridView" id="gvSelect"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" summary=""> <tbody> <tr> <td> <span id="gvSelect_ctl02_lbldas">blahblah</span> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </div> And here's the resulting Datagrid HTML: <table cellspacing="0" border="0" id="dgSelect" style="border-collapse:collapse;"> <tr onMouseOver="this.style.backgroundColor='lightgrey'"> <td> <span id="dgSelect_ctl03_lbldas">blahblah</span> </td> </tr> </table> See.. the main difference is the tag. It never gets set in the gridview.. and I don't know why.. I've traced through it.. and the code gets run.. :S

  • ValidationProperty not returning entered value for textbox in custom ontrol

    - by nat
    hi I have a custom control, (relevant code at the bottom) it consists of some text/links and a hidden textbox (rather than a hidden input). when rendered, the user via another dialog and some JS sets the value of the textbox to an integer and clicks submit on the form. i am trying to assure that the user has entered a number (via the JS) and that the textbox is not still set to its default of "0" the requiredfieldvalidator works just fine, if i dont change the value it spots it on the client and fills the validation summary on the page with the appropriate message. unfortunately when i do fill the textbox, the validator also rejests the post as the controls textbox text value is still set to "0", even though on the form it has changed. clearly i am doing something wrong.. but cant work out what it is? could someone enlighten me please, this is driving me potty if i step through the code, when the get of the mediaidtext is hit,the findcontrol finds does not the textbox, if i inspect the controls collection however i can find the textbox, but its value is still "0" it also seems that when findcontrol is called, the createchildcontrols is called again - thus resetting the value back to "0" there.. ! how can i ever assure the control realises that the textbox value has changed? many thanks code below nat [ValidationProperty("MediaIdText")] public class MediaLibraryFileControl: CompositeControl { private int mediaId = 0; public int MediaId { get { return mediaId; } set { mediaId = value; } } public string MediaIdText { get { string txt = "0"; Control ctrl = this.FindControl(this.UniqueID+ "_hidden"); try { txt = ((TextBox)ctrl).Text; MediaId = Convert.ToInt32(txt); } catch { MediaId = 0; } return txt; } } protected override void CreateChildControls() { this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<span>")); this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<span id=\"" + TextControlName + "\">" + getMediaDetails() + "</span>")); TextBox tb = new TextBox(); tb.Text = this.MediaId.ToString(); tb.ID = this.UniqueID + "_hidden"; tb.CssClass = "hidden"; this.Controls.Add(tb); if (Select == true) { this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(string.Format("&nbsp;[<a href=\"javascript:{0}(this,'{1}','{2}')\" class=\"select\">{3}</a>]", dialog, this.UniqueID, this.categoryId, "select"))); this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(string.Format("&nbsp;[<a href=\"javascript:{0}(this,'{1}')\" class=\"select\">{2}</a>]", clearDialog, this.ID, "clear"))); } this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("</span>")); } protected virtual string getMediaDetails() { //... return String.Empty; } } this is the code adding the validationcontrol the editcontrol is the instance of the control above public override Control RenderValidationControl(Control editControl) { Control ctrl = new PlaceHolder(); RequiredFieldValidator req = new RequiredFieldValidator(); req.ID = editControl.ClientID + "_validator"; req.ControlToValidate = editControl.ID; req.Display = ValidatorDisplay.None; req.InitialValue = "0"; req.EnableClientScript = false; req.ErrorMessage = "control cannot be blank"; ctrl.Controls.Add(req); return ctrl; }

  • event capturing or bubbling

    - by ChampionChris
    I have a link button in a repeater control. the li element is drag and droppable using jquery. when the page loads the the link button works perfectly, the jquery that is attached and the server side code both execute. when I perform a drag and drop then click on the link button it doesn't not fire. when i click it a second time it does fire. If i perform 2 or drag and drops in a row the link button doesn't fire a as many drag and drops as i before it will fire. for example if if perform 3 drag and drops then it will take about 3 click before the events are fired. <asp:Repeater ID="rTracks" runat="server" OnItemDataBound="rTracks_ItemDataBound" EnableViewState="true"> <ItemTemplate> <li onclick="testclick();" class='admin-song ui-selectee <asp:Literal id="ltStatusClass" runat="server" />' mediaid="<%# Eval("MediaId") %>" artistid="<%# Eval("tbMedia.tbArtists.id") %>"><span class="handle"><strong> <%--<%# int.Parse(DataBinder.Eval(Container, "ItemIndex", "")) + 1%>--%><%# Eval("SortNumber")%></strong><%--0:03--%></span> <span class="play"><span class="btn-play">&nbsp;</span></span> <span class="track" title="<%# Eval("tbMedia.Title") %>"> <%# Eval("tbMedia.Title") %></span> <span class="artist"> <%# Eval("tbMedia.tbArtists.Name") %></span> <span class="time" length="<%# Eval("tbMedia.Length") %>"> <asp:Literal ID="ltRuntime" runat="server" /></span> <span class="notes"><span class="btn-notes"> <asp:Literal ID="ltNotesCount" runat="server" /></span></span> <span class="status"> <asp:Literal ID="ltStatus" runat="server" /></span> <span class="date"> <%# Eval("DateAdded") %></span> <span class="remove"><asp:LinkButton ID="lbStatusClass2" runat="server" CssClass="btn-del" OnClick="UpdateStatus" ValidationGroup='<%#Bind("MediaId") %>'> <%--<span class='<asp:Literal id="ltStatusClass2" runat="server" Text="btn-del" />'>--%> &nbsp;<%--</span>--%></asp:LinkButton></span></span> </li> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> I have onclick event on the li element, when the mouse is clicks the link button the li onclick event is fired even when linkbutton event doesnt fire. My question is if the li captures the event y doesnt the event fire on the linkbutton? What would be stopping the event?

  • CSS + jQuery - Unable to perform .toggle() and repeated jQueryTemplate Item [I must warn you this is a bit overwhelming]

    - by user1027620
    Okay here we go: Stream.html (Template file) <div class="streamItem clearfix"> <input type="button" /> <div class="clientStrip"> <img src="" alt="${Sender}" /> </div> <div class="clientView"> <a href="#" class="clientName">${Sender}</a> <p>${Value}</p> <p>${DateTime}</p> <div class="itemGadgets"> <ul> <li class="toggleInput">Value</li> <li></li> </ul> </div> <div class="inputContainer"> <input type="text" value="" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="spacer" /> Default.aspx (jQuery) $('.toggleInput').live('click', function () { $(this).parent().parent() .find('.inputContainer').toggle(); $(this).parent().parent().find('.inputContainer') .find('input[type=text]').focus(); }); Update: The above has been changed to: $('.toggleInput').live('click', function () { $(this).closest(".clientView").find(".inputContainer").toggle() $(this).closest(".clientView").find(".inputContainer") .find('input[type=text]').focus(); }); Issues with jQuery: I have comments that belong to each .streamItem. My previous solution was to use ListView control as follows: <ItemTemplate> <asp:Panel ID="StreamItem" CssClass="StreamItem" runat="server"> ... <!-- Insert another nested ListView control here to load the comments for the parent stream. --> So as you can see, this is not a solution since I started using jQuery Templates and I am fetching the data using the following jQuery $.ajax method: $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'Services.asmx/GetStream', data: "{}", contentType: 'application/json', success: function (Stream) { $.get('Templates/Stream.html', function (template) { $.tmpl(template, Stream.d).appendTo("#Stream"); }); } }); How can I resolve this without using the old ListView solution but by using jQuery Templates to load the comments whenever I am getting data for a specific stream? I am using a simple WebMethod to return my data as follows: [WebMethod] public List<Stream> GetStream() { List<Stream> Streams = Stream.GetRange(X, X, HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name); return Streams; } I am looking for a way to handle the .toggleInput click event. I need check if .Comments (a main container for the (to be comments container <div>)) has children (or more than one .commentItem). If so, then I need to show that .inputContainer and hide all the other .inputContainer divs with .Comments size() == 0 if they're visible. Please see the image below: Default.aspx (Partial CSS) div.streamItem div.clientView { float : left; width : 542px; } div.streamItem div.clientView p { margin : 5px 0 0 0; font-size : 10pt; } div.streamItem div.clientView div.inputContainer { display : none; /* Doesn't hide .inputContainer */ padding : 2px; background-color : #f1f1f1; } Issues with CSS: On page load, display: none; has no effect. That's it! If you're reading this I'd like to thank you for your time and thoughts! :)

  • add_shown & add_hiding ModalPopupExtender Events

    - by Yousef_Jadallah
        In this topic, I’ll discuss the Client events we usually need while using ModalPopupExtender. The add_shown fires when the ModalPopupExtender had shown and add_hiding fires when the user cancels it by CancelControlID,note that it fires before hiding the modal. They are useful in many cases, for example may you need to set focus to specific Textbox when the user display the modal, or if you need to reset the controls values inside the Modal after it has been hidden. To declare Client event either in pageLoad javascript function or you can attach the function by Sys.Application.add_load like this: Sys.Application.add_load(modalInit); function modalInit() { var modalPopup = $find('mpeID'); modalPopup.add_hiding(onHiding); } function onHiding(sender, args) { } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   I’ll use the first way in the current example. So lets start with the illustration:   1- In this example am using simple panel which contain UserName and Password Textboxes besides submit and cancel buttons, this Panel will be used as PopupControlID in the ModalPopupExtender : <asp:Panel ID="panModal" runat="server" Height="180px" Width="300px" style="display:none" CssClass="ModalWindow"> <table width="100%" > <tr> <td> User Name </td> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="txtName" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Password </td> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="txtPassword" runat="server" TextMode="Password"></asp:TextBox> </td> </tr> </table> <br /> <asp:Button ID="btnSubmit" runat="server" Text="Submit" /> <asp:Button ID="btnCancel" runat="server" Text="Cancel" /> </asp:Panel>   You can use this simple style for the Panel : <style type="text/css"> .ModalWindow { border: solid; border-width:3px; background:#f0f0f0; } </style> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   2- Create the view button (TargetControlID) as you know this contain the ID of the element that activates the modal popup: <asp:Button ID="btnView" runat="server" Text="View" /> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; • Ajax Control Toolkit November 2011 Release

    - by Stephen Walther
    I’m happy to announce the November 2011 Release of the Ajax Control Toolkit. This release introduces a new Balloon Popup control and several enhancements to the existing Tabs control including support for on-demand loading of tab content, support for vertical tabs, and support for keyboard tab navigation. We also fixed the top-voted bugs associated with the Tabs control reported at CodePlex.com. You can download the new release by visiting the CodePlex website: http://AjaxControlToolkit.CodePlex.com Alternatively, the fast and easy way to get the latest release of the Ajax Control Toolkit is to use NuGet. Open your Library Package Manager console in Visual Studio 2010 and type: After you install the Ajax Control Toolkit through NuGet, please do a Rebuild of your project (the menu option Build, Rebuild). After you do a Rebuild, the ajaxToolkit prefix will appear in Intellisense: Using the Balloon Popup Control Why a new Balloon Popup control? The Balloon Popup control is the second most requested new feature for the Ajax Control Toolkit according to CodePlex votes: The Balloon Popup displays a message in a balloon when you shift focus to a control, click a control, or hover over a control. You can use the Balloon Popup, for example, to display instructions for TextBoxes which appear in a form: Here’s the code used to create the Balloon Popup: <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm1" runat="server" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtFirstName" Runat="server" /> <asp:Panel ID="pnlFirstNameHelp" runat="server"> Please enter your first name </asp:Panel> <ajaxToolkit:BalloonPopupExtender TargetControlID="txtFirstName" BalloonPopupControlID="pnlFirstNameHelp" BalloonSize="Small" UseShadow="true" runat="server" /> You also can use the Balloon Popup to explain hard to understand words in a text document: Here’s how you display the Balloon Popup when you hover over the link: The point of the conversation was <asp:HyperLink ID="lnkObfuscate" Text="obfuscated" CssClass="hardWord" runat="server" /> by his incessant coughing. <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm1" runat="server" /> <asp:Panel id="pnlObfuscate" Runat="server"> To bewilder or render something obscure </asp:Panel> <ajaxToolkit:BalloonPopupExtender TargetControlID="lnkObfuscate" BalloonPopupControlID="pnlObfuscate" BalloonStyle="Cloud" UseShadow="true" DisplayOnMouseOver="true" Runat="server" />   There are four important properties which you need to know about when using the Balloon Popup control: BalloonSize – The three balloon sizes are Small, Medium, and Large. BalloonStyle -- The two built-in styles are Rectangle and Cloud. UseShadow – When true, a drop shadow appears behind the popup. Position – Can have the values Auto, BottomLeft, BottomRight, TopLeft, TopRight. When set to Auto, which is the default, the Balloon Popup will appear where it has the most screen real estate. The following screenshots illustrates how these settings affect the appearance of the Balloon Popup: Customizing the Balloon Popup You can customize the appearance of the Balloon Popup by creating your own Cascading Style Sheet and Sprite. The Ajax Control Toolkit sample site includes a sample of a custom Oval Balloon Popup style: This custom style was created by using a custom Cascading Style Sheet and image. You point the Balloon Popup at a custom Cascading Style Sheet and Cascading Style Sheet class by using the CustomCssUrl and CustomClassName properties like this: <asp:TextBox ID="txtCustom" autocomplete="off" runat="server" /> <br /> <asp:Panel ID="Panel3" runat="server"> This is a custom BalloonPopupExtender style created with a custom Cascading Style Sheet. </asp:Panel> <ajaxToolkit:BalloonPopupExtender ID="bpe1" TargetControlID="txtCustom" BalloonPopupControlID="Panel3" BalloonStyle="Custom" CustomCssUrl="CustomStyle/BalloonPopupOvalStyle.css" CustomClassName="oval" UseShadow="true" runat="server" />   Learn More about the Balloon Popup To learn more about the Balloon Popup control, visit the sample page for the Balloon Popup at the Ajax Control Toolkit sample site: http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/BalloonPopup/BalloonPopupExtender.aspx Improvements to the Tabs Control In this release, we introduced several important new features for the existing Tabs control. We also fixed all of the top-voted bugs for the Tabs control. On-Demand Loading of Tab Content Here is the scenario. Imagine that you are using the Tabs control in a Web Forms page. The Tabs control displays two tabs: Customers and Products. When you click the Customers tab then you want to see a list of customers and when you click on the Products tab then you want to see a list of products. In this scenario, you don’t want the list of customers and products to be retrieved from the database when the page is initially opened. The user might never click on the Products tab and all of the work to load the list of products from the database would be wasted. In this scenario, you want the content of a tab panel to be loaded on demand. The products should only be loaded from the database and rendered to the browser when you click the Products tab and not before. The Tabs control in the November 2011 Release of the Ajax Control Toolkit includes a new property named OnDemand. When OnDemand is set to the value True, a tab panel won’t be loaded until you click its associated tab. Here is the code for the aspx page: <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm1" runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:TabContainer ID="tabs" OnDemand="false" runat="server"> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel HeaderText="Customers" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <h2>Customers</h2> <asp:GridView ID="grdCustomers" DataSourceID="srcCustomers" runat="server" /> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="srcCustomers" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM Customers" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:StoreDB %>" runat="server" /> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel HeaderText="Products" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <h2>Products</h2> <asp:GridView ID="grdProducts" DataSourceID="srcProducts" runat="server" /> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="srcProducts" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM Products" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:StoreDB %>" runat="server" /> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> </ajaxToolkit:TabContainer> Notice that the TabContainer includes an OnDemand=”True” property. The Tabs control contains two Tab Panels. The first tab panel uses a DataGrid and SqlDataSource to display a list of customers and the second tab panel uses a DataGrid and SqlDataSource to display a list of products. And here is the code-behind for the page: using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; namespace ACTSamples { public partial class TabsOnDemand : System.Web.UI.Page { protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { srcProducts.Selecting += new SqlDataSourceSelectingEventHandler(srcProducts_Selecting); } void srcProducts_Selecting(object sender, SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs e) { Debugger.Break(); } } } The code-behind file includes an event handler for the Products SqlDataSource Selecting event. The handler breaks into the debugger by calling the Debugger.Break() method. That way, we can know when the Products SqlDataSource actually retrieves the list of products. When the OnDemand property has the value False then the Selecting event handler is called immediately when the page is first loaded. The contents of all of the tabs are loaded (and the contents of the unselected tabs are hidden) when the page is first loaded. When the OnDemand property has the value True then the Selecting event handler is not called when the page is first loaded. The event handler is not called until you click on the Products tab. If you never click on the Products tab then the list of products is never retrieved from the database. If you want even more control over when the contents of a tab panel gets loaded then you can use the TabPanel OnDemandMode property. This property accepts the following three values: None – Never load the contents of the tab panel again after the page is first loaded. Once – Wait until the tab is selected to load the contents of the tab panel Always – Load the contents of the tab panel each and every time you select the tab. There is a live demonstration of the OnDemandMode property here in the sample page for the Tabs control: http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/Tabs/Tabs.aspx Displaying Vertical Tabs With the November 2011 Release, the Tabs control now supports vertical tabs. To create vertical tabs, just set the TabContainer UserVerticalStripPlacement property to the value True like this: <ajaxToolkit:TabContainer ID="tabs" OnDemand="false" UseVerticalStripPlacement="true" runat="server"> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel ID="TabPanel1" HeaderText="First Tab" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas porttitor congue massa. Fusce posuere, magna sed pulvinar ultricies, purus lectus malesuada libero, sit amet commodo magna eros quis urna. </p> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel ID="TabPanel2" HeaderText="Second Tab" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas porttitor congue massa. Fusce posuere, magna sed pulvinar ultricies, purus lectus malesuada libero, sit amet commodo magna eros quis urna. </p> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> </ajaxToolkit:TabContainer> In addition, you can use the TabStripPlacement property to control whether the tab strip appears at the left or right or top or bottom of the tab panels: Tab Keyboard Navigation Another highly requested feature for the Tabs control is support for keyboard navigation. The Tabs control now supports the arrow keys and the Home and End keys. In order for the arrow keys to work, you must first move focus to the tab control on the page by either clicking on a tab with your mouse or repeatedly hitting the Tab key. You can try out the new keyboard navigation support by trying any of the demos included in the Tabs sample page: http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/Tabs/Tabs.aspx Summary I hope that you take advantage of the new Balloon Popup control and the new features which we introduced for the Tabs control. We added a lot of new features to the Tabs control in this release including support for on-demand tabs, support for vertical tabs, and support for tab keyboard navigation. I want to thank the developers on the Superexpert team for all of the hard work which they put into this release.

  • ASP.NET: Building tree picker dialog using jQuery UI and TreeView control

    - by DigiMortal
    Selecting things from dialogs and data represented as trees are very common things we see in business applications. In this posting I will show you how to use ASP.NET TreeView control and jQuery UI dialog component to build picker dialog that hosts tree data. Source code You can find working example with source code from my examples repository in GitHub. Please feel free to give me feedback about my examples. Source code repository GitHub Building dialog box As I don’t like to invent wheels then I will use jQuery UI to solve the question related to dialogs. If you are not sure how to include jQuery UI to your page then take a look at source code - GitHub also allows you to browse files without downloading them. I add some jQuery based JavaScript to my page head to get dialog and button work. <script type="text/javascript">     $(function () {         $("#dialog-form").dialog({             autoOpen: false,             modal: true         });         $("#pick-node")             .button()             .click(function () {                 $("#dialog-form").dialog("open");                 return false;             });     }); </script> Here is the mark-up of our form’s main content area. <div id="dialog-form" title="Select node">     <asp:TreeView ID="TreeView1" runat="server" ShowLines="True"          ClientIDMode="Static" HoverNodeStyle-CssClass="SelectedNode">         <Nodes>             <asp:TreeNode Text="Root" Value="Root">                 <asp:TreeNode Text="Child1" Value="Child1">                     <asp:TreeNode Text="Child1.1" Value="Child1.1" />                     <asp:TreeNode Text="Child1.2" Value="Child1.2" />                 </asp:TreeNode>                 <asp:TreeNode Text="Child2" Value="Child2">                     <asp:TreeNode Text="Child2.1" Value="Child2.1" />                     <asp:TreeNode Text="Child2.2" Value="Child2.2" />                 </asp:TreeNode>             </asp:TreeNode>         </Nodes>     </asp:TreeView>     &nbsp; </div> <button id="pick-node">Pick user</button> Notice that our mark-up is very compact for what we will achieve. If you are going to use it in some real-world application then this mark-up gets even shorter – I am sure that in most cases the data you display in TreeView comes from database or some domain specific data source. Hacking TreeView TreeView needs some little hacking to make it work as client-side component. Be warned that if you need more than I show you here you need to write a lot of JavaScript code. For more advanced scenarios I suggest you to use some jQuery based tree component. This example works for you if you need something done quickly. Number one problem is getting over the postbacks because in our scenario postbacks only screw up things. Also we need to find a way how to let our client-side code to know that something was selected from TreeView. We solve these to problems at same time: let’s move to JavaScript links. We have to make sure that when user clicks the node then information is sent to some JavaScript function. Also we have to make sure that this function returns something that is not processed by browser. My function is here. <script type="text/javascript">     function         $("#dialog-form").dialog("close");         alert("You selected: " + value + " - " + text);         return undefined;     } </script> Notice that this function returns undefined. You get the better idea why I did so if you look at server-side code that corrects NavigateUrl properties of TreeView nodes. protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) {     base.OnPreRender(e);                 if (IsPostBack)         return;     SetSelectNodeUrls(TreeView1.Nodes); } private void SetSelectNodeUrls(TreeNodeCollection nodes) {     foreach (TreeNode node in nodes)     {         node.NavigateUrl = "javascript:selectNode('" + node.Value +                             "','" + node.Text + "');";         SetSelectNodeUrls(node.ChildNodes);     }        } Now we have TreeView that renders nodes the way that postback doesn’t happen anymore. Instead of postback our callback function is used and provided with selected values. In this function we are free to use node text and value as we like. Result I applied some more bells and whistles and sample data to source code to make my sample more informative. So, here is my final dialog box. Seems very basic but it is not hard to make it look more professional using style sheets. Conclusion jQuery components and ASP.NET controls have both their strong sides and weaknesses. In this posting I showed you how you can quickly produce good results when combining jQuery  and ASP.NET controls without pushing to the limits. We used simple hack to get over the postback issue of TreeView control and we made it work as client-side component that is initialized in server. You can find many other good combinations that make your UI more user-friendly and easier to use.

  • ASP.NET TextBox TextChanged event not firing in custom EditorPart

    - by Ben Collins
    This is a classic sort of question, I suppose, but it seems that most people are interested in having the textbox cause a postback. I'm not. I just want the event to fire when a postback occurs. I have created a webpart with a custom editorpart. The editorpart renders with a textbox and a button. Clicking the button causes a dialog to open. When the dialog is closed, it sets the value of the textbox via javascript and then does __doPostBack using the ClientID of the editorpart. The postback happens, but the TextChanged event never fires, and I'm not sure if it's a problem with the way __doPostBack is invoked, or if it's because of the way I'm setting up the event handler, or something else. Here's what I think is the relevant portion of the code from the editorpart: protected override void CreateChildControls() { _txtListUrl = new TextBox(); _txtListUrl.ID = "targetSPList"; _txtListUrl.Style.Add(HtmlTextWriterStyle.Width, "60%"); _txtListUrl.ToolTip = "Select List"; _txtListUrl.CssClass = "ms-input"; _txtListUrl.Attributes.Add("readOnly", "true"); _txtListUrl.Attributes.Add("onChange", "__doPostBack('" + this.ClientID + "', '');"); _txtListUrl.Text = this.ListString; _btnListPicker = new HtmlInputButton(); _btnListPicker.Style.Add(HtmlTextWriterStyle.Width, "60%"); _btnListPicker.Attributes.Add("Title", "Select List"); _btnListPicker.ID = "browseListsSmtButton"; _btnListPicker.Attributes.Add("onClick", "mso_launchListSmtPicker()"); _btnListPicker.Value = "Select List"; this.AddConfigurationOption("News List", "Choose the list that serves as the data source.", new Control[] { _txtListUrl, _btnListPicker }); if (this.ShowViewSelection) { _txtListUrl.TextChanged += new EventHandler(_txtListUrl_TextChanged); _ddlViews = new DropDownList(); _ddlViews.ID = "_ddlViews"; this.AddConfigurationOption("View", _ddlViews); } } protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) { ScriptLink.Register(this.Page, "PickerTreeDialog.js", true); string lastSelectedListId = string.Empty; if (!this.WebId.Equals(Guid.Empty) && !this.ListId.Equals(Guid.Empty)) { lastSelectedListId = SPHttpUtility.EcmaScriptStringLiteralEncode( string.Format("SPList:{0}?SPWeb:{1}:", this.ListId.ToString(), this.WebId.ToString())); } string script = "\r\n var lastSelectedListSmtPickerId = '" + lastSelectedListId + "';" + "\r\n function mso_launchListSmtPicker(){" + "\r\n if (!document.getElementById) return;" + "\r\n" + "\r\n var listTextBox = document.getElementById('" + SPHttpUtility.EcmaScriptStringLiteralEncode(_txtListUrl.ClientID) + "');" + "\r\n if (listTextBox == null) return;" + "\r\n" + "\r\n var serverUrl = '" + SPHttpUtility.EcmaScriptStringLiteralEncode(SPContext.Current.Web.ServerRelativeUrl) + "';" + "\r\n" + "\r\n var callback = function(results) {" + "\r\n if (results == null || results[1] == null || results[2] == null) return;" + "\r\n" + "\r\n lastSelectedListSmtPickerId = results[0];" + "\r\n var listUrl = '';" + "\r\n if (listUrl.substring(listUrl.length-1) != '/') listUrl = listUrl + '/';" + "\r\n if (results[1].charAt(0) == '/') results[1] = results[1].substring(1);" + "\r\n listUrl = listUrl + results[1];" + "\r\n if (listUrl.substring(listUrl.length-1) != '/') listUrl = listUrl + '/';" + "\r\n if (results[2].charAt(0) == '/') results[2] = results[2].substring(1);" + "\r\n listUrl = listUrl + results[2];" + "\r\n listTextBox.value = listUrl;" + "\r\n __doPostBack('" + this.ClientID + "','');" + "\r\n }" + "\r\n LaunchPickerTreeDialog('CbqPickerSelectListTitle','CbqPickerSelectListText','websLists','', serverUrl, lastSelectedListSmtPickerId,'','','/_layouts/images/smt_icon.gif','', callback);" + "\r\n }"; this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(typeof(ListPickerEditorPart), "mso_launchListSmtPicker", script, true); if ((!string.IsNullOrEmpty(_txtListUrl.Text) && _ddlViews.Items.Count == 0) || _listSelectionChanged) { _ddlViews.Items.Clear(); if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(_txtListUrl.Text)) { using (SPWeb web = SPContext.Current.Site.OpenWeb(this.WebId)) { foreach (SPView view in web.Lists[this.ListId].Views) { _ddlViews.Items.Add(new ListItem(view.Title, view.ID.ToString())); } } _ddlViews.Enabled = _ddlViews.Items.Count > 0; } else { _ddlViews.Enabled = false; } } base.OnPreRender(e); } void _txtListUrl_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.SetPropertiesFromChosenListString(_txtListUrl.Text); _listSelectionChanged = true; } Any ideas?   • Wiring up JavaScript handlers after a Partial Postback in ASP.NET

    - by Richard
    I am trying to use LinkButtons with the DefaultButton property of the ASP.NET Panel in an UpdatePanel. I have read and used the various other answers that are around describing the wiring up of the click event so that a full postback is not done instead of a partial postback. When the page loads, I wire up the .click function of the LinkButton so that the DefaultButton property of the ASP.NET panel will work. This all works fine, until you bring an UpdatePanel into the mix. With an UpdatePanel, if there is a partial postback, the script to wire up the .click function is not called in the partial postback, and hitting enter reverts to causing a full submit of the form rather than triggering the LinkButton. How can I cause javascript to be executed after a partial postback to re-wire up the .click function of the LinkButton? I have produced a sample page which shows the problem. There are two alerts showing 1) When the code to hook up the .click function is being called, and 2) When the .click function has been called (this only happens when you hit enter in the textbox after the event has been wired up). To test this code, type something in the textbox and hit Enter. The text will be copied to the label control, but "Wiring up Event Click" alert will not be shown. Add another letter, hit enter again, and you'll get a full postback without the text being copied to the label control (as the LinkButton wasn't called). Because that was a full postback, the Wiring Up Event Click event will be called again, and the form will work properly the next time again. This is being done with ASP.NET 3.5. • Expression Web 4 - Master Page Error

    - by Eric J.
    I created an ASP.Net Web Application in VS 2010. That in turn creates an example Site.Master, Default.aspx, and several other example files. I then opened Default.aspx in Expression Web 4 and get the error message The Master Page file 'Site.Master' cannot be loaded. Default.aspx can still be displayed fine in VS 2010. And though it shows textbox control of EditItemTemplate, it appears as a blank textbox (does not bind existing value to edit).

  • DropDownList Value not changing with UpdatePanel and ModalPopupExtender

    - by Richard
    Greetings, I have an asp.net webpage with an modalpopupextender inside of an updatepanel. When I click Ok on the popup, I can get the textbox values from the popup just fine, but the DropDownLists have the old/default value, not the new value I have selected for them. All the controls on the popup are set to enableviewstate = true, and autopostback = false (I just want to make the trip to the server when I click the ok button, not every time I change the value of the popups).
