  • No Games Installed with Windows 7 Professional

    Ordered a PC from HP with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit preinstalled, of course. No Win7 disc was included with computer. There are no games installed. I have tried to "activate" them through the Control Panel procedure, but each time I do it there is an error message telling me that not all components installed. And my Games folder is empty. Is there a solution? Synetech asked what I meant by "activate through Control Panel." I'm referring to the "Turn windows features on" procedure that's supposed to work for everybody. I'm sure it does for most, but it didn't for me.

Anyone know what the problem is? Or even better, how to fix it? I have installed Percona 5.5 with yum on CentOS.

So, how can I fix this issue?

  • HP Z210 SFF: two different video cards produce no Displayport output when installed

    I have a HP Z210 SFF that I'm trying to install a video card into. I've tried two different cards in Slot 2 (a Quadro FX380LP and a Quadro 600). Neither of these cards produce a displayport signal when installed. With neither installed the displayport port on the motherboard works fine with the built in graphics. When I install the cards it produces no signal and the cards don't either. The Quadro 600 is brand new and the odds of having two dead video cards is quite low. Is there something fundamental that I could be missing out - a BIOS setting maybe?

  • Upgrade manually-installed msi by assigning software through gpo

    In the past I rolled out software by manually installing it on a "golden" workstation, creating an (ghost)image from that and rolling that out to the other workstations. I try not to do that any more for simple/small software, and when possible (if it's an .msi) I assign the software through gpo. I'm having a problem with one of those. The software was manually installed on the image, which was rolled out, and now I have an update for that software (new msi) and I'd like to assign it through gpo. Don't know if it's relevant but it's user assigned. The new version gets installed alongside with the old version (this is possible since the program folder is different between those versions). When I install the same msi by hand, it properly removes/upgrades the old version though. Is what I am trying to do possible?

    The Software Update tool shows already installed updates. I already installed them a few times, clicking either the 'Update All' button or the indivisual 'Update' buttons. The apps are: Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Skitch, Evernote, Fotor. 'Check for unfinished downloads' reports all downloads have finished. Signing out and back in and reloading didn't help. $ sudo softwareupdate -ia Password: Software Update Tool Copyright 2002-2012 Apple Inc. Finding available software No updates are available. Googling didn't help. How can I fix the GUI tool so it updates its status? OSX 10.9.3

    I have been getting the error "The required version of the .NET Framework is not installed on this computer." (Event Id 4096 in Event log) when trying to install a VSTO application from both a ClickOnce deployment and a local copy. This is interesting as the .NET framework is installed (on my 32bit Windows 7 PC) and the VSTO application was developed on the self same machine (and works in Visual Studio 2008). Does anybody has an idea why I could get this exception?   • C# System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser Requires Flash to be Installed

    When I create a form and add a WebBrowser control to it and have it navigate to http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform the flash area says I need Adobe Flash Player installed. This is already installed in IE, but apparently not in the WebBrowser control. Is there are way to have the WebBrowser control run flash without having to manually go to the flash site and install. Flash is already installed the normal IE browser, just not the WebBrowser control in the forms app.

  • Why would autoconf/automake project link against installed library instead of local development libr

    I'm creating a library libgdata that has some tests and non-installed programs. I am running into the problem that once I've installed the library once, the programs seem to be linking to the installed version and not the local version in ../src/libgdata.la any longer. What could cause this? Am I doing something horribly wrong? Here is what my test/Makefile.am looks like: INCLUDES = -I$(top_srcdir)/src/ -I$(top_srcdir)/test/ # libapiutil contains all of our dependencies! As far as I can tell, it is linking against the newly built library (../src/libgdata.la) based on the make output, so I'm not sure why this would be happening. If i remove the installed files, the local changes to src/* are picked up just fine.   • A code using SharePoint classes doesn't run on systems not having SharePoint installed

    I have a window application which uses SP classes to create a site. I works fine on a system having Windows Server 2003 R2 with sharepoint installed. But it doesn't work on a system having XP installed and SharePoint not installed. The fact is that both of these systems are on a intranet. So I assumed that the NON-SP system would be able to run the code and create a site on the system having SP installed if all the required parameters (like serverLocation, domain, username, password) are provided. I did copied the DLLs to these NON-SP system and referenced them to build the project: Microsoft.SharePoint.dll microsoft.sharepoint.portal.dll Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.dll But this too didn't worked. What am I missing? Is my assumption wrong?

It's not a typical installer in the normal sense (it doesn't add anything to the Start Menu or Program Files folders). Each time the setup program is run on Vista, after the exe terminates, Vista produces a task dialog: This program might not have installed correctly Reinstall using recommended settings This program installed correctly Is there a function I need to call from the exe or registry entry to set, to indicate to the operating system that the program installed correctly (or to at least supress this message)?     Hello! I have some problem with my created nsis setup. I need to check if the product is already installed and then get the path to the already installed product. This is because I want to build a "Feature-Setup" that installs some other components into the previous installed folder. Does anyone know how to build this installer? It will be brilliant if the feature setup will start the installation and check the path of the installed product.   • Cannot use Java 7 instalation if Java 8 is installed

    I normally still use Java 7 for all my coding projects (it's a company "politics" issue), but I installed Java 8 for one third-party project I am contributing to. Now, it seems I cannot have Java 8 installed in Windows 7 x64, and still use Java 7 by default: C:\>"%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe" -version java version "1.7.0_55" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_55-b13) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.55-b03, mixed mode) C:\>java.exe -version java version "1.8.0_05" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_05-b13) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.5-b02, mixed mode) As you can see, JAVA_HOME is completely ignored. I also have Java in the path, using "%JAVA_HOME%\bin", which resolve correctly to Java 7 when I check the path in a DOS box, but it still makes no difference. I checked in the "Java Control Panel" (not sure if this affects the default command-line Java version). Under the "Java" tab, the "View..." button, you get to see "registered" Java versions. I can add all the versions under the "User" tab, but under "System" there is only Java 8, and no way to change it. Am I missing something, or did Oracle just make it impossible to use Java 7, unless I de-install Java 8? I don't want to have to specify the "source" and "target" everywhere, and I don't even know if it is possible for me to specify it everywhere, where Java is used. EDIT: What I did is I de-installed all Java. Then installed the latest Java7 (both 86 and x64), and then the latest Java8 (both 86 and x64). After I did that, I noticed that the x64 JDK was gone. It seems Java8 killed it. So I re-installed the JDK 7 x64, after the JDK 8 x64. Still, JDK7 x64 did not seem to "replace" the "java.exe" which is copied into the "Windows" directory itself (I assume THAT is the problem).

I'd like to deny execution rights for some users on certain software like so: find the path to installed software recursively remove execution rights I find the path to installed software from Win32_Product InstallLocation column. But the PROBLEM is that not all rows in Win32_Product have a value for InstallLocation. What can I do to overcome this? Is there somewhere in registry where I can find this path?

    I have Sony VAIO VGN-NS290J laptop. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I was able to find drivers for all hardware without any problems. Recently, I installed Microsoft Windows Live Essentials 2011, i.e. Windows Live Messenger 2011. Ever since that application is running on my computer, my webcam is not recognized by the OS any more. It is listed as the "Unknown Device" and placed in the Universal Serial Bus controllers group in the Device Manager. There don't seem to be any drivers for this webcam. It's a standard Sony Motion Eye web camera and Sony does not offer any drivers for it. There is one application to download that utilizes the camera, but there are no drivers (and the system is showing the same behavior regardless of the presence of the application). It happens from time to time that the webcam becomes recognized by the OS again, after a couple of restarts; but not always. Then it becomes unknown again. I am absolutely positive that this issue is caused by the Windows Live Messenger 2011, because same symptoms caused the same effects before. I wish to be able to continue to use this software, but also to use my webcam. I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue and if there is a way to fix it. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. Update: I have discovered a pattern - if the camera goes astray, restarting the machine does not bring it back; but switching the computer off and turning it back on does. Every time! This is getting super complicated :)

  • Lenovo L440 won't boot into Debian installation CD or Debian-installed HDD

    I have a Lenovo L440 and a Lenovo X61. I want to install Debian Wheezy on thee L440. This morning, the L440 could successfully boot into Windows 8 from it's hard drive. I created an installation of Wheezy on a USB flash drive with Unetbootin. I created an installation CD of Wheezy with Unetbootin. The X61 can successfully boot into the flash drive. The X61 does not have a CD drive. I have attempted to boot from the live CD and the flash drive from the L440's boot menu. In both cases, the screen fades to black, and then returns me to the boot menu with no error message. I removed the L440's hard drive, and installed it in the X61. I then successfully installed Wheezy onto the hard drive from the flash drive. I'm able to boot into the Wheezy hard drive on the L440. After replacing the hard drive into the L440. I booted from the hard drive from the boot menu. Once again, the screen fades to black, and then returns me to the boot menu with no error message. What's the deal?

It happens from time to time that the webcam becomes recognized by the OS again, after a couple of restarts; but not always. Then it becomes unknown again. I am absolutely positive that this issue is caused by the Windows Live Messenger 2011, because same symptoms caused the same effects before. I wish to be able to continue to use this software, but also to use my webcam. I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue and if there is a way to fix it. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. Update: I have discovered a pattern - if the camera goes astray, restarting the machine does not bring it back; but switching the computer off and turning it back on does. Every time! This is getting super complicated :)
