  • Weird problem with keyboard

    I have a wireless bluetooth keyboard. Suddenly, something weird has started happening to it. If I press most of the alphabetic keys nothing happens, but some of the keys have gotten substituted for one another. For example if I press 'tab', its as if i hit 'enter', if I press 'enter' on num pad, it functions as tab. If i press 's' it functions as the right click menu button, and pressing the right click menu button functions as 's'. Ctrl and ALT buttons and the button that opens the start menu seem to be working as normal. The normal laptop keyboard is working fine, and the wireless mouse that came with the keyboard is also working fine, however the keyboard is what's messing up. Does anyone know what the prob is? I'm using Windows XP and 'Microsoft Intelli Keyboard' and mouse.

  • Logitech USB keyboard driver not found on Windows 7 x64

    I have a Logitech Internet 350 Keyboard which has been working fine on my Lenovo T400 laptop for well over three years. Just within the past week or so, Windows 7 can no longer find the driver for it. There is no custom driver from Logitech for this device -- it uses the generic Windows USB HID driver. The keyboard works just fine from the BIOS (and Linux which I dual boot this machine), but Windows 7 cannot find or load the driver for it. Any ideas? I smell a Windows update problem, but have no idea how to fix it, and I really am not interested in rolling back updates. New Info: I just tested a generic Dell USB keyboard and it worked just find, with Windows immediately recognizing the device and installing the HID keyboard class driver. So, it seems that Windows has decided not to recognize my specific Logitech keyboard device. I still suspect a Windows update issue, but I would love to hear other suggestions.

  • Can't use my keyboard nor the touch pad while installing on a Dell Vostro 1510

    I am stuck with a very annoying problem which does not allow me to even install Ubuntu on my laptop (Dell Vostro 1510). In a simple walk through of the problematic scenario... I boot the Ubuntu from a boot able CD. I got to a point where it ask for the language options, I select the English as my option using arrows keys and press enter. Then the option come where a.) try from the live cd b.) install ubuntu c.) etc etc Is needed to be selected. For which I press enter. Once I press enter... In any of the next steps of installing Ubuntu, my keypad and touch pad does not work. P.S.: My Batteries are completely dried Up... Can't use batteries. Does this problem has anything to do with batteries?

  • Chrome in the launcher does not open with keyboard hotkey (Super + #)

    I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and I have chrome as the first application locked in my launcher. When I click it or press Super+1 the Chrome icon just flashes, but never opens the app. All other apps open fine. I have to manually find it in Unity and launch it from there, or from Terminal. I've set this to launch properly on another machine but I don't know why it's not working on my laptop. Why does this happen?

It works in as much as that the new layout appears as a viable option in the Text Entry dialog, it can be added to the list of dialogs and is visible in the application indicator: However, it does not work, the new symbols are not loaded. No errors are reported in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

  • Alt/Shift key not released after switching keyboard layout

    Sometimes when I switch layout using either Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift the Alt key is not recognized as being released thus if I press e.g. F a File menu opens up. Last time that happend I lost all data I filled into a text form on a webpage because I pressed the Home key while typing and Firefox suddenly went to my home page! Moreoever, it still remains unreleased after hundreds of keypresses like if I'm holding it! Same goes for the Shift key. I would rather file a bug at Launchpad if I could but I have no clue what fucking package name should I type in the ubuntu-bug command! Have anyone else had this issue? Can you suggest a solution or maybe another place to report this bug?

  • Keyboard problem with ubuntu 13.10 when holding key down

    I have the fallowing problem after isntalling the new Ubuntu OS. When i press and hold a key, for example "p" it writes one time "p", and while i am holding it the other "pppp" that are written come with a huge delay between each other - like 1 second or more. If i want to hold down backspace to delete a string of 5 letters it takes me like 10 seconds to do it. Is this a reported problem or does anybody has a solution to this problem?

  • EEE PC Keyboard malfunctioning - Ctrl key "sticks" after 10 seconds

    I was given a EEE PC belonging to a friend of a friend to fix. The keyboard did not appear to work at all. I spent a while testing out various things, blowing the keyboard out, checking for damage, and so on. Nothing appeared to be physically wrong. At first I noticed that the keyboard appeared to work just fine for 10 seconds (on average, sometimes more sometimes less) after being powered on. It had been restored to the factory default xandros installation with no user set up, so I couldn't get in to mess with things since I couldn't type to make a user. I made an ubuntu live USB to boot it from, and managed to get the boot order changed to boot from USB in the ~10 seconds of working keyboard I had (I don't think I've ever had to rush around BIOS menus that quickly). After I got Ubuntu up on it, I played around a bit more and determined that apparently the ctrl key is stuck down (not literally, but it's on all the time). If I open gedit, pressing the "o" key brings the open dialog, "s" opens the save dialog, and all other behaviour you would expect to see if you were holding down the control key. The only exception that I noticed is the "9" and "0" keys. They function normally. Figuring that out I made a xandros user with a name/password consisting of 9's and 0's. I couldn't find any options in Xandros that could potentially be helpful. I'm not familiar with EEE PCs. Is it safe to assume that the keyboard is simply dead or could there be another problem? I don't want to purchase another keyboard for him if that isn't going to fix the problem. The netbook doesn't show any obvious signs of damage but the owner is a biker and very often has it with him on the road so it's been subjected to a good bit of vibration.

  • Are there any custom keyboard available for laptops

    My work laptop is a HP elitebook 8560w which I mainly use for programming. Usually I have a external keyboard but recently I have been working out of office and therefore have been using the laptops own keyboard. One thing has really started to bug me. The keyboard layout of this 15.6" laptop contains numpad but the arrow keys are really bad (too small). Also when programming, I really miss a standard inverted T-arrow keys and the home/end/PgUp/PgDn buttons. Then it occurred to me; I would rather give up a numpad than a standard arrow keys. (The keyboard real estate in 15.6" laptop would allow this, and I really have to agree with Jeff Atwood here http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2009/02/have-keyboard-will-program.html) Which brings me to my question. Do any laptop manufacturers make custom keyboards for their laptops or is there some third party manufacturer who could supply these kind of special keyboards? Quick googling on this doesn't give any meaningful results. Looks like that I have to carry an external keyboard with me if someone here can't give any pointers.

  • why Thinkpad T410s intermittent keyboard death?

    I have a Thinkpad T410s running Windows 7 64-bit. I have had it for three months. It has the latest BIOS (1.41) and trackpad drivers. In the last week I have started to notice that the keyboard intermittently stops working. Specifically, keystrokes have no effect, including Fn-F12 (shutdown) and Ctrl-Alt-Del. The LED on the capslock key does not turn on or off. Whatever state the lighted keys (e.g. mute) were in remains. The trackpad and trackpoint work properly, and I can close apps and properly shut down the machine. When I attach a USB keyboard it is recognized, but no keys work. If I run the Lenovo keyboard test, all the keys register properly and the caps lock light works again. When I quit the test app, the caps lock light stops working. If I hit Fn-F12 while the keyboard test is running, it goes into hibernation. When the machine comes back from hibernation, once I exit the keyboard test I again cannot do any input on the keyboard. I'm pretty convinced there is a software or driver problem. I never saw this the first three months I had the laptop. I do not recall installing anything recently. I am sure I've received some Windows security updates. I tried using wired networking instead of wireless - no difference. There doesn't appear to be any inciting event; it usually happens when I am working over ssh. I switched from rxvt+ssh to Putty and the problem still occurs. Any ideas?

    I've switched recently to an UK keyboard, from a FR keyboard. It is an usb keyboard, and first I plugged it in, I had to launch dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration in order to request the correct layout (ie: uk). But after every reboot of the machine, the laytout comes back to the FR layout. How can I make the modification persisting? I am using Ubuntu, running the Stump Window Manager.   • How can I have only two specific keyboard layouts in my system without 'us'?

    I want only two keyboard layouts in my system: us altgr-intl (USA International (AltGr dead keys) ) and gr (Greece), so this is what I've selected in System ? Preferences ? Keyboard ? Layouts. However, every time I begin a new Gnome session (reboot, logout/login), the us keyboard layout is automatically inserted at the top of the list.     So I've been digging into how the stdio portion of libc is implemented and I've come across another question. Looking at man setvbuf I see the following: When the first I/O operation occurs on a file, malloc(3) is called, and a buffer is obtained. This makes sense, your program should have a malloc in it for I/O unless you actually use it. My gut reaction to this is that libc will clean up its own mess here. Which I can only assume it does because valgrind reports no memory leaks (they could of course do something dirty and not allocate it via malloc directly... but we'll assume that it literally uses malloc for now). But, you can specify your own buffer too... int main() { char *p = malloc(100); setvbuf(stdio, p, _IOFBF, 100); puts("hello world"); } Oh no, memory leak! valgrind confirms it. So it seems that whenever stdio allocates a buffer on its own, it will get deleted automatically (at the latest on program exit, but perhaps on stream close). But if you specify the buffer explicitly, then you must clean it up yourself. There is a catch though. The man page also says this: You must make sure that the space that buf points to still exists by the time stream is closed, which also happens at program termination. For example, the following is invalid: Now this is getting interesting for the standard streams. How would one properly clean up a manually allocated buffer for them, since they are closed in program termination? I could imagine a "clean this up when I close flag" inside the file struct, but it get hairy because if I read this right doing something like this: setvbuf(stdio, 0, _IOFBF, 100); printf("hello "); setvbuf(stdio, 0, _IOLBF, 100); printf("world\n"); would cause 2 allocations by the standard library because of this sentence: If the argument buf is NULL, only the mode is affected; a new buffer will be allocated on the next read or write operation.

For some reason, I have to do [ebp+6] then [ebp+10] and so forth. Could anyone tell me why?

  • Multiple keyboard shortcuts for the same command in OS X?

    I am used to doing Ctrl-Shift-Tab to cycle through tabs. I do slowly pick up the niceness about using Cmd-Shift-[ or ] to do the same on the Mac. I have currently set TextMate to take Ctrl-Shift-Tab to do the tab cycling, but I'd want the Ctrl-Shift-[ or ] in addition to that to perform tab cycling. Is this possible? The reason I ask is because I see that Chrome can do it both ways (not through any configuration of my own of course).

I tried the following command: reg add "HKCU\Keyboard Layout\Preload" /v 3 /d 00000804 except that the keyboard defaults to Chinese Simplified - US keyboard. Does anyone know how if there is any other registry key I need to change in order to get the New Experience Input to show up in the Language Bar?
