• SCCM 2012 - Windows 8 WSUS

  We're using SCCM 2012 to deploy Windows Updates on our domain, and our Windows 8 clients have started failing with error 80240438 when they try to update. Windows 7 clients update fine, but Windows 8 clients refuse to do anything. I've done a search online and it seems to only reference Windows InTune. Has anyone seen any similar behavior on Windows 8 machines? If we don't get that error, we're getting 80244021 which seems to indicate that the server can't be found.... but they can resolve it just fine and our exceptions are defined on the proxy too. • Why does ssh hang after "debug1: loaded 3 keys"

  Trying to log in to an Amazon EC2 instance running Ubuntu 10.04.1. I can log in just fine, no issues. A different user, coming from a different network just gets this: OpenSSH_4.3p2, OpenSSL 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 01 Jul 2008 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug1: Connecting to xxxx [xxxx] port 80. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: loaded 3 keys And then it hangs. We've tried running sshd on port 22 and port 80 I'm guessing that it's not a firewall problem since the verbose output reports that the connection is established. I don't see anything in /var/log/auth.log when the failing user connects. I do see entries when I log in successfully.

• Yum update not working on CentOS 6.2 minimal install

  Note: This is my first question on the stack exchange network so please give mercy and provide guidance where needed. I have installed a CentOS 6.2 KVM guest and I am having problem getting yum to work. This is my first time working with CentOS so I feel that it's a setting somewhere that I am missing but cannot find using google. • I need to get VMWare Server running inside of a VMWare ESXi virtual machine

  Yes, I know running a virtual machine inside of a virtual machine is a bad idea. Yes, I know it will be very slow. However, our production system required VMs in VMWare server and I do not want to setup a real server for each of our developers for testing. I would like to be able to setup all of the VMWare servers (that mimic our production environment) on one ESXi server. I have found as much info as I can about this topic and I have tried what was suggested here and here. I have not been able to get any of these suggestions to work, I still get the VM cannot run inside of a VM error. If there are any other suggestions that anybody else have that would be great thanks.

• Read Linux-formatted (ext3) EBS volume mounted on Windows Server 2008 instance

  I've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 instance set up in Amazon EC2. I've also got some Ubuntu instances on the same EC2 account. I'd like to be able to mount the EBS volume from one of the Ubuntu instances onto the Windows instance as an external drive and then access that drive from the Windows instance. I've looked at tools like ext2fsd and ext2 IFS, but these haven't worked (I couldn't get the former to work, and the latter says that it supports Windows 2008 but gives an error when I try to install it, saying that it only supports up to Windows 2003). I know that there are all kinds of tools to view Linux partitions and that there are filesystems that are compatible with both Linux and Windows, but neither of those options works here (I want to be able to attach and detach the Ubuntu volumes on command, rather than have a permanent partition, and Ubuntu EBS volumes are ext3 by default). Anybody know a good tool I should use?

• Need help making an ODBC MySQL Connection

  Short Version: How do I connect from PowerShell to an ODBC 5.1 MySQL Driver? I can't seem to find any connection strings that accurately have a "Provider" field for this particular instance. (See bottom of this question for examples/errors) ===== Long Version: I'm not a server guy, and I've been handed the task of setting up PowerGadgets on our network. I have a MySQL server running on a Linux box, that is configured for remote access and has a user defined for remote access as well. On my windows desktop PC, I have PowerGadgets installed. I installed the MySQL ODBC 5.1 connector, and went to Control Panel Data Sources and set up a User DSN connection to the database. The connection, user, and pass seem to be correct because it lists the tables of the database in my windows control panel. Where I'm running into trouble is in 3 places in PowerGadgets: When selecting a data source, I can select "SQL Server". Inputting the servers IP address does not work and I can't get this option to work at all. When selecting a data source, I can select "OleDB". This screen has a wizard on it, that appears to populate all the correct information (including database table names!) for me. "Test Connection" runs great. But if I try to complete the wizard, I get the error "The .NET Framework data provider for OLEDB does not support the MS Ole DB provider for ODBC Drivers." When selecting a data source, I can select "ODBC". This screen does not have a wizard and I cannot figure out a "connection string" that works. Typically it will respond with the error "The field 'Provider' is missing". Googling ODBC connection strings doesn't reveal any examples with a "provider" field and have no idea what to put in here. The connection string (for #2) above contains "SQLOLEDB" as a provider, and upon inputting that value into this connection string I get the same connection error that #2 gets. I believe I can solve my problems by figuring out a connection string for #3 but don't know where to get started. (PowerGadgets also allows for PowerShell support but I believe I will run into the same problem there) == Here's my current PowerShell connection that doesn't work: invoke-sql -connection "Driver={MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver};Initial Catalog=hq_live;Data Source=HQDB" -sql "Select * FROM accounts" Spits back the error: "Invoke-Sql : An OLE DB Provider was not specified in the ConnectionString. An example would be, 'Provider=SQLOLEDB;'. == Another string that doesn't work: invoke-sql -connection "Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=False;Data Source=HQDB;Initial Catalog=hq_live" -sql "select * from accounts" And the error: The .Net Framework Data Provider for OLEDB (System.Data.OleDb) does not support the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (MSDASQL). • Accessing DHCP Client's vendor-encapsulated-options

  In the dhcpd.conf file for isc-dhcpd-V3.1.1, I have set up a vendor options space and defined several different options. I am able to use those definitions to send options from the server to the client in the vendor-encapsulated-options option (code 43). However, the client is also sending vendor options back to the server, in the same way, and I'd like to respond differently depending on the type and contents of the options. As far as I can tell, the the server isn't parsing the client's vendor-encapsulated-options at all - the option operator is just returning null. Is there a way to get the server to populate the options in the vendor space I've defined?

• Export Outlook Express XP into Outlook 2007 Windows 7

  I've searched the forum and it seems my need is a little different than the posts which have already been made. I have an old XP laptop which I was using Outlook Express for one of my mail accounts (a work account). I also ran regular Outlook for another (personal). I want to have both of these accounts on my new PC. My new PC is running Windows 7 wiht Office 2007. I used the Windows transfer cable and things worked failry well. My regular Outlook files all came over well, but nothing for Outlook Express. I really would like to take this time to somehow export my OE files into my Outlook 2007. I would really like to keep the account which imported in on Outlook seperate. Question 1: Is there a way to import my OE files into Outlook 2007? Question 2: Is there a way to have two seperate email accounts in Outlook without combining them? Basically I want to have a work email and a personal and keep them seperate. If I can't have two seperate emails with Outlook, can anyone suggest something which would allow me to export my old Outlook (the old personal emails) into another program so that I can at least use my work email on Outlook 2007? Hopefully this isn't too confusing.

  I want to see a listing of all the stored procs for each database on a server along with when the last time that store proc was run. I'm pretty good with SQL but I don't know about looking at stats like this that sql keeps so I'd appreciate a little help finding this info. EDIT: From the answers I'm getting it sounds like this is not possible the way I thought it would be. • How can I switch between the HDMI and DVI outputs of my graphics card?

  I've got an Nvidia GTX 560ti card which currently I've got my 2 monitors hooked up to using the 2 DVI ports. However its got a mini-HDMI port which I've plugged a HDMI cable in (with mini adapter) and lead it into my TV which is across the room. I'm hoping to be able to toggle between the HDMI output and the DVI outputs, however I'm not sure how I'd go about this, Could somebody please point me in the right direction, I'm not really worried about having all 3 on at the same time so that isn't a problem, but if its possible then I'll do that.

• Mysql server won't start - no logs

• SharePoint Search: processing filenames containing underscores

  We use SharePoint Server 2007 to allow employees to search network file shares, but it seems that underscores in filenames are not treated as word separators when indexing the files. As a result, a search for chocolate will: match "chocolate milkshake.doc" but not match "chocolate_cake.doc" (Of course, this is a simplified example; in practice the content of the second file might include the word "chocolate" and match on that instead of the filename. But the problem itself is real enough, because a common scenario in a corporate environment is that a user knows the the partial name of the file they are looking for and expects to see matching filenames at the top of the search results. And using underscores in filenames is a widely used convention within our company). Underscores are not treated as word separators in the file content either, although this is less of a concern for us. The root cause of this problem is possibly related to the behaviour of the word breakers that SharePoint uses (i.e. the language-specific DLLs that implement the IWorkBreaker interface), although I haven't confirmed this yet. Does anyone know of a workaround for this issue? I have tested with Search Server 2008 Express too (which is based on the same technology), and it is also affected. I do not know whether the problem is fixed in SharePoint 2010 or not.

• How to make a huge ram drive?

  At my old job when a report was needed I could sit down with someone and pull up results and get immediate feedback, and then refine my queries and ultimately have the data we needed, in the format we needed within 30-90 minutes. I just started working for a new company with a database containing millions of records and I spent my whole 8 hours making a report that I feel I could have made in less than 2 hours if it were not for the massive amount of data the queries are working with, and the fact that I couldn't ask the person needing the data to sit down with me and give me feedback as I pulled up results as I am used to. So I am trying to think of how we can make the server faster... much faster, so that I can have the same level of productivity I'm used to. One thought that just came to mind is that memory is so cheap these days, and by my calculations I could buy 10 8gig ram sticks for 1000 bucks. What I have never heard of though is a device that would let me combine these into a huge ram drive. So I'd like to know if any such device exists, and if not what is the largest ram drive I could realistically make and how would I go about doing so? EDIT: To you guys who are saying the database shema needs to be analyzed... you can't make a query such as "Select f1, f2, f3, etc from SomeTable" run any faster by normalizing or indexing the table. What I'm talking about IS ABSOLUTELY a need for improved performance at the hardware level. I am used to having results come back to me in a few seconds, not a few minutes or much less a half an hour. Maybe that's what you guys are used to who have 100 billion record tables and you feel like that's fast, but I'm looking for results back from tables with about 10 million records to come back to me withing less than half a minute TOPS.

• CentOS networking BNX2

  Having some trouble with my NICs. • User given a login prompt when closing Word documents after viewing them in IE7

  When using IE7 to view Word documents on our CRM system (an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 and using Windows authenticaton) I'm finding that a prompt appears when the user closes the document. The Word document is originally opened by clicking a link in the CRM system. Are there permissions that I can set on the folder containing the Word documents to prevent this prompt? I've already tried only allowing the Read permission for the Users group (I've left Administrators with Full Control.) If there's another solution to this without using permissions please let me know. UPDATE: I ran Fiddler as suggested by JD and here is the output from the two responses after the request for the document. The first seems to be a DAV response and the second is the authentication request. How do I prevent the DAV response and just return the .doc on the server? I moved all of the documents that are being requested into a folder outside of the web root, and created a virtual directory for it (also outside of the web root). When I followed a link to one of the documents in IE and then closed the document I wasn't presented with a login prompt. I should point out that I'm not using FPSE, unlike the person in the forum post. Ideally I don't want to have to put the documents in a separate virtual directory, but this is the simplest solution I've found so far.

• Can't login with blank password on Lion OSX

  Having slight issue with my Lion install. I removed the password from the admin account as it's not desired. However when I'm on the login screen, it wont accept the blank password. It shows the user account and a password box, and when you enter wrong password it gives you the hint. The only way I've found to get in is by constantly spamming the user icon until it logs in. Has anybody else experienced this or knows of a fix?

• Windows 7 Locking up Randomly

  I've got a Windows 7 machine that is locking up randomly. It can be in the first thirty seconds, or it can be hours later. There is nothing specific I can find that is running when it happens. When it locks, the screen doesn't change, but nothing moves. The waiting icon stops, the mouse stops, keyboard doesn't work, etc. I've even tried the crash on ctrl-scrl registry hack, and it won't even dump the kernel. I've run hardware diagnostics on the RAM and it doesn't find any problems. I would think it is a hardware issue, but on this exact same machine, I can run 64 Bit Ubuntu and it has zero problems. I've even tried reinstalling Windows7 from scratch, and it still happens. Anyone have any ideas? Any good diagnostic tools to recommend? Thanks! Michael

• Fake domain doesn't resolve when offline

  I have a flimsy grasp of DNS. Nonetheless, in order to install a local development copy of Wordpress MU, I needed to create a fake domain, which I called local.dev. It and all subdomains simply resolve to 127.0.0.1. Apache then directs to the correct folder. I installed PowerDNS, and got it working properly with a MySQL backend. I didn't feel comfortable, but since it worked, I didn't ask any more questions. The bizarre thing is it requires an internet connection to resolve correctly, and now I need to use it offline. • Slow Web Performance on two Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Servers

  We have two Windows 2008 R2 servers that we use for agents to log into to access our customers systems. Saturday morning we received complaints that on both servers the web is running horribly slow. This happens on all websites and the majority of the time the web site times out trying to load. Other users located at the same site but using their desktop machine do not see any issue. We have rebooted the boxes and checked settings and cannot find the cause. The CPU/Memory/Network/Disk Space use on the server is very low. I thought it might have been a MS update causing the issue but it appears the last update was applied in January. We have rebooted both boxes and I am in process of trying a different browser. Any ideas what could be causing this?

• How do I revert back to official Linksys firmware from dd-wrt on WRT56G2 v1?

  I've been having trouble with dd-wrt on my Linksys WRT56G2 v1 router and want to go back to the stock Linksys firmware for it. The router has only 2MB of flash memory, and so I'm running the 'micro' version of dd-wrt. My question is what is the best way to do that? I could use the http://router/Upgrade.asp dd-wrt "firmware upgrade" web interface to do it, in which case there's a dropdown menu choice for "After flashing, reset to": "don't reset" or "reset to default settings". Which should I pick? Some people say that I should use a program called tftp.exe instead. I can probably gain access to a Windows machine if this is necessary. Which of these is the way to proceed? I don't want to brick the router if at all possible! Note: I used the 'wrt54g' tag because I wasn't allowed to create a 'wrt54g2' tag due my low rep here.

• What happens when the server that the Remote Desktop Connection Broker goes down?

  I would like to setup the Remote Desktop Connection Broker to allow better load balancing of the two terminal servers we have as well as allowing the user to re-establish to the correct server if they get disconnected. My worry is, if I set this up and the server this service is running goes down, does the terminal server stop accepting connections or will they just lose the benefit of having RDCB turned on? I don't want to add another point of failure in this equation unless I have to.
