• SPF record doesn't work (not sure which DNS server to tweak)

  Problem: Google (and perhaps others) marks our emails as SPF neutral. Let me give you some background about the setup: initially got a dedicated server (Hetzner) with Plesk installed to host a domain/web application, let's say: bigjaws.com. Plesk automatically creates a DNS zone for it with some records for the various services it provides out of the box, e.g. webmail.bigjaws.com as a CNAME to bigjaws.com to provide Horde/whatever, etc. Let me point out four relevant of these records (where XXX.XXX.XXX.158 is our dedicated IP): bigjaws.com. A XXX.XXX.XXX.158 mail.bigjaws.com. A XXX.XXX.XXX.158 bigjaws.com MX (10) mail.bigjaws.com. bigjaws.com. TXT v=spf1 +a +mx -all The above records are not(?) valid anymore though, because after using this dedicated server for a while, our site got bigger and bigger so we decided to move our operations over to AWS (EC2, RDS, ELB, etc), but we retained the mail functionality as is, i.e. emails from [email protected] are sent by connecting to our dedicated server where Plesk takes care of things. This was decided in order not to setup anything from scratch. Of course for all DNS-related things we now use Route53. In Route53 I have the following records: mail.schoox.com. A XXX.XXX.XXX.158 bigjaws.com. MX (10) mail.bigjaws.com bigjaws.com. SPF "v=spf1 +ip4:XXX.XXX.XXX.158 +mx ~all" From my understanding of SPF, the SPF status should have been passed: I designate that all email being sent by bigjaws.com from XXX.XXX.XXX.158 are valid/not spam (I added +mx there but I'm not sure if needed). When a mail server receives an email, doesn't it lookup the SPF record of the domain and checks against the IP it got the email from? The domain bigjaws.com has authorized static.158.XXX.XXX.XXX.clients.your-server.de (XXX.XXX.XXX.158) to send mail on its behalf, so the message should have been accepted. It is impossible for us to say why it was rejected. What should I do? If the problem persists, contact the bigjaws.com postmaster. • Cannot resolve a single A Record from client machine

  I set up a simple Bind server on my VPS and it is working properly. The problem occurs with my local windows machines, which are connected to internet through the home router. I created an A-record named 'dev' and it is invisible from my local network for some reason, though people from other locations can resolve dev.mydomain.com. Ironically, dev.mydomain.com cannot be resolved for myself only. If I add another A-record, say, 'gamma' then it becomes visible from my local windows machines instantly. So this is just for that particular 'dev' name. The only difference is that I had dev.mydomain.com server on another IP but that was a month ago; all nameservers have been changed since then. I tried to reboot my router and flushed dns cache on windows machines: no result. Thank you in advance.

• best way to record local modifications to an application's configuration files

  I often install applications in Linux which don't come in package form but rather one just downloads a tarball, unpacks it, and runs the app out of the exploded folder. To adjust the application to my environment I need to modify the default configuration files, perhaps add an odd script of my own and I would like to have a way to record all these modifications automatically so I can apply them to another environment. Clearly, the modifications can not be reproduced verbatim as things like IP addresses or username need to change from system to system; still an exhaustive record to what was changed and added would be useful. My solution is to use a pattern involving git. Basically after I explode the tarball I do a git init and an initial commit and then I can save to a file the output of git diff and a cat of all files appearing as new in the git status -s. But I am sure there are more efficient ways. ???

• Open Directory authenticated bind succeeds, but creates incomplete record

  I have about a dozen Macs running 10.6.7 or 10.6.8, which are all failing to bind properly to my new 10.7.4 Server OD. I can bind them just fine via Directory Utility or dsconfigldap, and it reports success. However, when I look at the record, it is failing to write the MAC address. Even if I manually update the record with the MAC address, MCX doesn't do anything and clients can't log in to OD accounts. All of the affected clients have hundreds of lines in the /Library/Logs/DirectoryService.error.log like so: 2012-09-15 22:23:18 EDT - T[0x00007FFF70292CC0] - GetMACAddress returned 0x *** bad control string *** 8x I do know that all of these clients were previously managed with the Guest computer account, and I also know that they were all imaged with a DeployStudio image when they were purchased. I've tried dscacheutil -flushcache, but after that I'm drawing a blank. Google has a few hits, but nothing very helpful. Re-imaging would be ideal but probably isn't going to happen. Anyone come across this before?

  I read an article that I can't find at the moment which detailed a way to have Google Voice point to a SIP phone number which forwards to your phone in order to take advantage of the SIP service in order to Have all calls use a data connection = no usage of cell-phone plan minutes. Record each and every conversation.* I really want to be able to accomplish this, primarily issue number 2, as all of the phone recorder tools in the Android Market essentially don't work for my Nexus One. I figure that I have one of two options with this. I could 1) use an existing (hopefully free) service which will do this for me or 2) I could set up a SIP service at my home. to somehow forward calls through my home server which will record the calls as well as forward calls to my cell phone. Obviously, the path of least resistance is the one I'd like to go down. Can anyone help me out with this? * I do understand that the legality of this varies from state to state here in the US.

  I am not sure but I can't seem to turn on my webcam to record videos which I would broad cast somewhere later on. I have a HP G62 Laptop, and the cam turns on when I use programs like Skype and other Video Calling clients, other wise I can't turn it own, as I don't seem to know how. Laptop: HP G62 Notebook PC, AMD Atholon II P230 Dual-Core, Windows 7: Home Premium Can some one tell me how do I turn on my webcam and record videos? Or is there some sort of a software? I tend to read stuff I wrote in Word, so if there is a program I need it to be in the tray dock and not to bug me, while I am moving between different documents/web pages.

• Core Data NSPredicate to filter results

  I have a NSManagedObject that contains a bID and a pID. Within the set of NSManagedObjects, I only want a subset returned and I'm struggling to find the correct NSPredicate or way to get what I need out of Core Data. Here's my full list: bid pid 41 0 42 41 43 0 44 0 47 41 48 0 49 0 50 43 There is a parent-child relationship above. Rules: If a record's PID = 0, it means that that record IS a parent record. If a record's PID != 0, then that record's PID refers to it's parent record's BID. Example: 1) BID = 41 is a parent record. Why? Because records BID=42 and record BID=47 have PID's of 41, meaning those are children of its PID record. 2) BID = 42 has a parent record with a BID = 41. 3) BID = 43 is a parent record. 4) BID = 44 is a parent record. 5) BID = 47 has a parent record with a BID = 41 because its PID = 41. See #1 above. 6) BID = 48 is a parent record. 7) BID = 49 is a parent record. 8) BID = 50 is a child record, and its parent record has a BID = 43. See the pattern? Now, basically from that, I want only the following rows fetched: bid pid 44 0 47 41 48 0 49 0 50 43 BID = 41, BID = 48, BID = 49 should all be returned because there are no records with a PID equal to their BID. BID = 47 should be returned because it is the most recent child of PID = 41. BID = 50 should be returned because it is the most recent child of PID = 43. Hope this helps explain it more.

• Sendmail delivering locally instead of to MTA in MX record

  Ok, so I've got a box named websrv1.mydomain.com. It's a web server running ubuntu, apache2, sendmail, etc. My email is outsourced to a third party. So in my DNS I've got MX set to mx.thirdparty.net. I've no reason to accept incoming mail on my web server, every email should be sent to the third party. This works correctly accept with sending mail from the webserver (aka via cron or console). So from my web server, if I send an email to [email protected], it just disappears. No errors, nothing in dead.letter, nothing. I can send to any other address with no issues. If I send to [email protected] it's delivered locally which is fine. 1) Doing an nslookup shows the mx record is correct. 2) Running /mx mydomain.com from sendmail -bt returns the correct result. 3) Running sendmail -bv [email protected] returns: sudo sendmail -bv [email protected] [email protected]... deliverable: mailer esmtp, host mydomain.com., user [email protected] 4) Running 3,0 [email protected], returns: 3,0 [email protected] canonify input: me @ mydomain . com Canonify2 input: me Canonify2 returns: me canonify returns: me parse input: me Parse0 input: me Parse0 returns: me Parse1 input: me MailerToTriple input: me MailerToTriple returns: me Parse1 returns: $# esmtp $@ mydomain . com . $: me parse returns: $# esmtp $@ mydomain . com . $: me So I'm at a loss. Sendmail seems to see the mx record, but it's not using it.

• Why did I loose access to the mailboxes on my old web/mail host after changing to a new one but keeping old MX values

  So I changed the NS records with registrar to point at the new webhosts DNS servers and edited the SOA record there, deleting the new hosts default MX records and instead putting in the old ones for the old web\mail hosts. The website A record is however pointing at the new webhosts servers and the site comes up fine. But none of this should cause me to loose access to mailboxes on my old hosts mail server right? I log into the control panel on the old host, all the mailboxes are there, all the passwords are fine but I can't log in using either webmail or pop3, says incorrect log-in/password. I even created a new mailbox and password for it respectively, but it would not let me log in. For what its worth I did not change\delete the records for 'A' on the old webhost zone file, since I am not hosting the site with them anymore and NS records are pointing to other hosts DNS servers/zone file so that shouldn't matter right? The old hosts mailserver is also not simply down, I can tell because through the control panel I setup a mail forward for one of the existing inboxes and when sending mail to it, it receives it and forwards it fine. So from this I can deduce that I have correctly inputted the old hosts MX records into the zone file hosted on the new hosts DNS and the mail is being sent to the old hosts mail server(s) and is successfully forwarded by it. But why can't I log into those account/inboxes anymore ?

• Rails test db doesn't persist record changes

  I've been trying to solve a problem for a few weeks now. I am running rspec tests for my Rails app, and they are working fine except for one error that I can't seem get my head around. I am using MySQL with the InnoDB engine. I have set config.use_transactional_fixtures = true in spec_helper.rb I load my test fixtures manually with the command rake spec:db:fixtures:load. The rspec test is being written for a BackgrounDRb worker, and it is testing that a record can have its state updated (through the state_machine gem). Here is my problem: I have a model called Listings. The rspec test calls the update_sold_items method within a file called listing_worker.rb. This method calls listing.sell for a particular record, which sets the listing record's 'state' column to 'sold'. So far, this is all working fine, but when the update_sold_items method finishes, my rspec test fails here: listing = Listing.find_by_listing_id(listing_id) listing.state.should == "sold" expected: "sold", got: "current" (using ==) I've been trying to track down why the state change is not persisting, but am pretty much lost. Here is the result of some debugging code that I placed in the update_sold_items method during the test: pp listing.state # => "current" listing.sell! listing.save! pp listing.state # => "sold" listing.reload pp listing.state # => "current" I cannot understand why it saves perfectly fine, but then reverts back to the original record whenever I call reload, or Listing.find etc. Thanks for reading this, and please ask any questions if I haven't given enough information.   Hi, I am currently using Audio Queues on the iPhone to record and playback audio. What I would like to be able to do is to record some audio, allow the user to pause the record queue, and to seek back and forward through the audio to select a position from where they can start recording from again. I have got over the seeking issue by making the playback AudioQueueBuffer sizes small enough so that the play audio queue callback happens at a rate that allows the user to use a slider control to hear the audio as they adjust the slider back and forth. I think I can achieve the recording at a new position by setting the inStartingPacket parameter of the AudioFileWritePackets function that I call from the Audio Recording Queue callback. The trouble is this only inserts audio over the previously recorded audio. The file length obviously doesn't change so if the user were to go backwards and record less audio than before, the old audio still remains after the end of the newly recorded audio. Is there a way I can get the AudioFile to truncate at the point the user starts to insert the new audio, is there some other way I can remove the old audio starting at the insert position or is there a better way about going about this task? • Mysql Powerdns issue when adding a new CName record

  I'm trying to add a new CNAME record in PowerDNS to the mysql database, but my website does not want to show. When adding it in via Zone Admin it works, but as soon as I add the record as below it just does not want to work. Am I doing something wrong here.   I am currently trying to write an addin for PowerPoint that whenever any PowerPoint document is opened and then run in show mode that the feature to record narration audio and slide timings is automatically activated. However I cannot seem to find that option in the PowerPoint interop object The manual in application way to use this feature in Powerpoint 2007 is under the "Slide Show" tab of the ribbon called "Record Narration". I have found under that I can set under Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.SlideShowSettings.AdvancedSettings to RehearseNewTimings but this does not record narration audio. Does anyone know if this is even possible? Or if I am completely on the wrong track here. Thanks in advance for any repsonse

I have created the Voter table in which I need to insert the record.   While very easy to do in Perl or PHP, I cannot figure how to use mysql only to extract the first unique occurence of a record. For example, given the following table: Name Date Time Sale John 2010-09-12 10:22:22 500 Bill 2010-08-12 09:22:37 2000 John 2010-09-13 10:22:22 500 Sue 2010-09-01 09:07:21 1000 Bill 2010-07-25 11:23:23 2000 Sue 2010-06-24 13:23:45 1000 I would like to extract the first record for each individual in asc time order. After sorting the table is ascending time order, I need to extract the first unique record by name. So the output would be : Name Date Time Sale John 2010-09-12 10:22:22 500 Bill 2010-07-25 11:23:23 2000 Sue 2010-06-24 13:23:45 1000 Is this doable in an easy fashion with mySQL? Thanks, Sammy

• How to check a SQL database table to see if a record exists

I want to check this table before a user uploads a document to ensure they don't upload a file with name that already exists. I know how to make the connection and make the SqlCommand to query the table for an existing record. But I don't know how to check the record count from the sqlCommand I made. Does that make sense? • Access: Reading deleted record buffer

  According to the Access (2003) documentation, when you delete a record, it's placed in a buffer, then the BeforeDeleteConfirm event is raised, then the AfterConfirmDelete ad Delete events. In my table if a record is deleted, I need to add one of its field values (a quantity value) to a field in another table. I tried setting the quantity to a private variable in the Current event, but as soon as I delete click delete, it looks like the Current event fires again and resets my variable. How can I access the value of a field in a deleted record?
