  Is there any way to set the default font color for new messages in Mail.app? It's trivial to set the actual font, and text size. I cannot seem to get the application to change the text color though. It always defaults to black. After 5 or 6 major revisions of OS X, surely someone has thought of this, right?

• Setting up a network e-mail server

  Hello, My boss just asked me to buy a new server for our office network. I know next to nothing about servers and networking, so I need someone to point me in the right direction. He said he wants this to be our e-mail server with a network login. I have no idea how to set up an e-mail server, especially one that sends/receives e-mail using our domain name. We use a terrible piece of order/inventory software called Mail Order Manager (MOM). Our computers currently connect to the MOM database through a networked drive. My boss would like to move away from this peer-to-peer MOM setup. The software publisher offers a SQL version of MOM, but it's way overpriced. Is there a better way to connect to these databases without using the SQL version? Finally, the server needs to be running Windows. Does this question make sense, is it possible, and can someone help me get started? Thanks!

Currently have about 850 messages in the Inbox folder, and the preview pane turned off, thus I view messages by double-clicking. • ASP.NET Routing not working on IIS 7.0

  I ran into a nasty little problem today when deploying an application using ASP.NET 4.0 Routing to my live server. The application and its Routing were working just fine on my dev machine (Windows 7 and IIS 7.5), but when I deployed (Windows 2008 R1 and IIS 7.0) Routing would just not work. Every time I hit a routed url IIS would just throw up a 404 error: This is an IIS error, not an ASP.NET error so this doesn’t actually come from ASP.NET’s routing engine but from IIS’s handling of expressionless URLs. Note that it’s clearly falling through all the way to the StaticFile handler which is the last handler to fire in the typical IIS handler list. In other words IIS is trying to parse the extension less URL and not firing it into ASP.NET but failing. As I mentioned on my local machine this all worked fine and to make sure local and live setups match I re-copied my Web.config, double checked handler mappings in IIS and re-copied the actual application assemblies to the server. It all looked exactly matched. However no workey on the server with IIS 7.0!!! Finally, totally by chance, I remembered the runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests attribute flag on the modules key in web.config and set it to true: <system.webServer> <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"> <add name="ScriptCompressionModule" type="Westwind.Web.ScriptCompressionModule,Westwind.Web" /> </modules> </system.webServer> And lo and behold, Routing started working on the live server and IIS 7.0! This seems really obvious now of course, but the really tricky thing about this is that on IIS 7.5 this key is not necessary. So on my Windows 7 machine ASP.NET Routing was working just fine without the key set. However on IIS 7.0 on my live server the same missing setting was not working. On IIS 7.0 this key must be present or Routing will not work. Oddly on IIS 7.5 it appears that you can’t even turn off the behavior – setting runtAllManagedModuleForAllRequests="false" had no effect at all and Routing continued to work just fine even with the flag set to false, which is NOT what I would have expected. Kind of disappointing too that Windows Server 2008 (R1) can’t be upgraded to IIS 7.5. It sure seems like that should have been possible since the OS server core changes in R2 are pretty minor. For the future I really hope Microsoft will allow updating IIS versions without tying them explicitly to the OS. It looks like that with the release of IIS Express Microsoft has taken some steps to untie some of those tight OS links from IIS. Let’s hope that’s the case for the future – it sure is nice to run the same IIS version on dev and live boxes, but upgrading live servers is too big a deal to do just because an updated OS release came out. Moral of the story – never assume that your dev setup will work as is on the live setup. It took me forever to figure this out because I assumed that because my web.config on the local machine was fine and working and I copied all relevant web.config data to the server it can’t be the configuration settings. I was looking everywhere but in the .config file forever before getting desperate and remembering the flag when I accidentally checked the intellisense settings in the modules key. Never assume anything. The other moral is: Try to keep your dev machine and server OS’s in sync whenever possible. Maybe it’s time to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 after all.   I'd like to set up Thunderbird to be able to send messages via an SMTP server, but I don't want to actually download any messages from a POP3 or IMAP account to Thunderbird's local storage. Is there any way to get Thunderbird to send messages without creating an incoming account? Currently, I'm unable to use the Write/Send features if I just have an outgoing server set up, but no incoming account.

• Working around Gmail mailing-list "feature."

  I'm using Google Apps for my domain's e-mail via IMAP. Whenever I send mail to a mailing list, I don't receive a copy of my own mail back in my inbox. According to Google, this is a "feature." Is there a way to disable this "feature" so that all mail I send to mailing lists appears in my inbox just like all other e-mail? Perhaps something along the lines of this method for disabling Google's spam filter??

• Problems with mailenable when sending to yahoo mail

  I'm testing sending emails from mailenable webmail. I have no problems sending mail to gmail or hotmail, both work fine, but yahoo mail sends my messages to the spam folder and shows the attachment icon for the message even though the message doesn't contain any attachments, it's just plain text. It only includes a reply to a previous message, like this: message text ----- Original Message ----- original message text I copied the message content and sent it from gmail to yahoo and the attachment icon didn't show which makes me believe it's something with mailenable. What could possibly be wrong? Also, is there a white list for yahoo mail that I can join? And also for other popular webmail? I'm going to use this on a production website (site visitors use the contact us form to send messages to the site - the mail enable server running on the same machine as the web server - then I check the messages using the mailenable webmail and reply them). This is really important to me, your help would be really appreciated ...

• Webmin/ SpamAssassin doesn't appear to be 'learning' from forwarded examples of spam

  I have spamtrap@ and hamtrap@ addresses set up on my mail server and forward examples of spam to the spamtrap address. I was hoping that after a few examples, SpamAssassin would 'learn' to identify the particular characteristics of spammy mail with common attributes, but this doesn't appear to be the case - it still gets delivered as normal mail. For example, some emails from the same sender and/ or with the same subject line, despite being sent several times to spamtrap@, are just delivered normally. Does it sound like SpamAssassin isn't working or correctly configured, or have I misunderstood a fundamental aspect of how it works?

  Hey all! I run a disposable e-mail service that accepts all incoming mail and forwards it to a PHP script that stores it in a database for people to view. Before now, I have been on shared hosting with cPanel, which makes it easy to pipe e-mails to a script. Now, however, I got my own VPS, and it doesn't have cPanel. How do I pipe e-mails to script? Further, how do I pipe emails to any address on certain specified domains to my script? You see, aside from the main domain, there are several alternate domains that people can use if the main domain is blocked, and on each domain I want any address to be usable (xyz@domain, abc@domain, anythingelse@domain). The VPS has Ubuntu 9.04 installed, and I have been experimenting with Postfix, though I can switch to Exim or Sendmail if it is easier.

• .NET Mailserver smtp/relay problem

  Question, I'm trying to setup my own mailserver: This is the server (latest version): http://www.codeproject.com/KB/vista/SMTP_POP3_IMAP_server.aspx Now I've the following problem: I can add user accounts, and receive mails from the internet in that account. I can also setup a mailinglist. This works fine (for local users). But I can't send any emails out... Why ? I've forwarded port 25 + 110, and it works fine for receiving mails from the internet. Do I need to configure SMTP under SMTP, or under relay, or both ? Or do I miss anything ?

• Gmail notification in Ubuntu's native mail icon.

  So, new Ubuntu 10.04 up and running. Playing with the interface eventually got me curious about something. Up until now, I've only used the chat and broadcasting functionalities of the mail icon in Ubuntu's top panel, mostly because I take care of my mail on firefox so I don't need one more program (empathy) running on my poor little netbook. I'm currenty using gnome-gmail to set gmail as my default mail client in Ubuntu. But, when I click on the "Set up mail" item, inside the Panel's Mail icon, it simply brings up empathy. My question is: Is it possible (in any way whatsoever) to have my gmail notifications up there, configured so that clicking it will just take me to a gmail tab in Firefox? (instead of opening up empathy) This is really just some frivolous interest of mine, nothing important. Right now I'm using check-gmail to notify me of new mail, but the panel is really cramped up on my netbook, so it'd be nice to free up some room by getting rid of check-gmail and only using Ubuntu's mail icon. Ok, hope I was clear enough.

• Flash is not working in Chrome

  I have google Chrome 8.0.552.237 on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit and flash is not working, I have tried a variety of methods to install flash, including Firefox flash-aid and the flash-installer package and nothing is working for me. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled chrome to no avail. I get "missing plugin" message where flash plugin should be in a website. What am I missing? • How to merge-copy multiple folders in Outlook?

  In MS Outlook, I need to be able to incrementally copy items in multiple folders in the Exchange account to a local PST file with a mirrored folder structure. I need the items in each folder to be combined into the destination. For example, let's say on the server account I have a folder tree like this: Inbox SortedEmails1 SortedEmails2 SortedEmails3 I also have these same four folders in the local PST file, which I want to keep growing as I incrementally pull more messages from the Exchange server. Messages from "Inbox" should go to the local "Inbox", messages from "SortedEmails1" should go into "SortedEmails1" in the local PST, etc. I'd like to avoid manually iterating into every single folder and copying items. How can I do this?
