I'm in the process of deploying a bunch of Win2K8R2 VMs via vSphere's deployment template stuff, and in the deploy specification it allows you to punch a list of commands to run. Aside from activating Windows (which it doesn't do), it works pretty well.
Does anyone know the command-line equivalent of going into a network adapter's properties and unchecking the IPv6 box? If I had that I could put that in the spec and not have to manually uncheck the IPv6 box.
I remember there was a tech-net or WindowsITpro article about how to harden windows 2003 service accounts a couple of years ago.
For backup software purposes (such as BackupExec / AppAsure / Etc.. , please don't bash these) I have to create a domain admin account (usually called something such as "backup") and have the services run from that account.
In this article I remember you can create the domain admin user "Backup" however have it not able to login interactively.
Do any of you remember such an article or have the knowledge on how to do it?
Any recommendations on books, websites, or other resources for learning Internet Protocol, the ins and outs of DNS and how Networking and IP Addressing works? I have a fundamental knowledge of this stuff but I need a good reference I can look to frequently.
I was given access to a Windows Server 2008 box and I need to check what all permissions I have on that box (if possible in the entire domain). I don't have access to domain controller and I don't want to write LDAP queries but just some GUI option or some command line stuff. Is there anyway?
PS: I am not in to network administration, I am a BI developer. Pardon me if asked a stupid question.
hi,
A customer of mine have been testing a trial of MS CRM 4.0 that I installed for them, but they concluded that it might be a bit heavy for them. I promised them to look into other CRM applications that use SQL Server as the backend and preferably has an Outlook plugin so you can do "CRM Stuff" directly from Outlook.
If anyone knows about alternatives, I would appreciate it if you leave a link here!
debian4 linux
i have the following cmd line which works fine
rsync -avr -e ssh /home/dir [email protected]:/home/
but i need to setup it up now to rsync to a remote server that only has ftp on it
how do i go about that ?
i looked at the rsync help but quickly got lost (i don't do this stuff very often)
thanks

I like Linux.
I like OpenGL.
I don't like X.
On Linux, is there anyway to get 3D acceleration from my Nvidia card without X? Ideally, I'd have the kernel boot, get to a console, then somehow get into a "graphics mode", where my entire monitor is just a single OpenGL screen ... and I draw stuff to it with OpenGL. Without X. Is this possible?
Thanks!
Hello all,
I am inheriting a Dell Dimension 8200, but it needs RAM to get up and running. I have PC3200 sticks lying around, but I am not sure how to go about figuring out if the RAM is compatible, as RAM has always confused me. Here is the Dell Dimension 8200 Tech Specs: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8200/specs.htm
For RAM, it says: Memory type PC800 (non-ECC)
I don't know if that is just the kind that comes with it, and I can put in PC3200 (I think, if it worked, this would run at the lower rating? Is that true?), or if that means only PC800 is compatible. Any help would be appreciated.
I understand I'll need to re-install all the applications, but will upgrading from Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7 (64 bit) automatically format my hard drive removing out all my stuff? Or I'll just need to install all the appls but my files (like pictures and documents) will remain on that hard drive? (Trying to figure out if I really need to get 500GB spare space anywhere to copy my data temporarily to.)
The title says it all. When I download alot of stuff the wireless connection will close. After 10-20 secs it will reconnect.
What could be causing this? What is more likely to be the cause, my wireless adapter or the router?
In MS SQL 2005, is it possible to find out which tables/columns are being used either as keys in another table, or as part of a stored procedure?
The reason is I'm trying to clean up some old stored procs and tables, some of which can be removed, some of which can have columns pruned. But obviously I don't want to remove stuff which is being used.
So guys,
sometime when i am browsing or doing other stuff it's like windows unplugs my usb-logitech-mouse. it than get riconnected again in few seconds.
I tihnk this is happening after I had to install virtual machines (like: virtualbox and vmware)
I already disinstalled them but this issue is still here.
When this happens even the lights on my mouse are off same behaviour as like somone unplagged it.
What could i do?
Hello
My itunes library is being a space hog and I need to transfer unused files to an external hard-drive and/or compress them. Can someone tell me if:
a. that's possible
b. if itunes will play media on an external hard-drive
c. where itunes stores files(most of my stuff is from the itunes store).
Thanks!
I'm currently using a Motorola WiMAX modem (CPEi 25725) and cannot connect to the internet. I can connect to the modem at 192.168.15.1 and check its status. It says that it has good/excellent connectivity to the internet and shows all five signal bars. Additionally it has sent and received some WiMAX packets so I believe it is connected to a tower.
I'm at a loss for what the problem is. Unplugging the modem, restarting it from software, and restarting my computer (Windows 7) have not helped. Windows still reports that it is not connected to the internet.
Alternatively, could this be an ISP issue? I have heard that Clearwire is a not-so-reputable ISP that blocks VoIP, and I was using Skype recently.
EDIT: I called Clear's tech support and apparently their network is having significant problems at the moment. Guess there's nothing an end-user can do about it.
I want to use it to debug an existing project,
but without generating additional files within the project itself.
How can I tell visual c++ 2008 to put its own stuff in a separate directory outside the project?
For development purposes I'm using www-data (on an ubuntu 11.10 server) to ssh in and fire git commands and basic stuff against the webroot.
I don't have things like command history, coloring, etc like I do when I ssh in as any other user, so I'm curious how to get this working.
I'm assuming I need a `.bashrc' file, but I'm not sure what to include or (more importantly since I could just copy the one from another user) where it goes.
Today when using my PC as I did for almost 4 years I experienced the following:
during opening new tab in Opera browser screen froze. Music (AIMP 3) continued to play for about 5 minutes and then stopped too.
I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del, but win7 lock screen didn't appear. Caps\Scroll or Num locks didn't switch diodes on keyboard.
I rebooted my PC and saw that BIOS suggests me to enter it's settings or load by default. I chose default. It don't see proper boot device (old faitful "insert proper boot" something).
After second reboot it said that there is no ExpressGate installed (which i turned off in BIOS years ago). I went into BIOS setting to turn off ExpressGate and see configs: time was not set off, all hard drives present, temp and O.C. settings are nominal (no O.C.)
I've inserted my Win7 install disk to try recovery. It did load awfully long (about few minutes) and didn't see current installation.
PC was utilized in 24/7 mode for almost all these years.
Hardware configuration:
ASUS P5Q WS
Core 2 Quad Q9300 (2.5GHz no O.C.)
MSI geForce GTX 460
4x2 Gb GeIL EVO 2 (AFAIR)
Seagate something 750Gb (4 years as system HDD 24/7)
WD 1Tb (for random stuff, 5 y.o.)
Hitachi 500Gb (for even more random stuff, 6 y.o.)
NEC DVDRW (ALL DISKS ARE SATA)
Cooler Master Silent Pro 700W
Software: Windows 7 AND Kubuntu on the same drive with GRUB loader.
Sorry I can't remember HDDs and can't see them right now, but I think their models aren't relevant anyway.
My idea is that due to some system error or hard drive glitch i've wrecked my primary HDD's MBR.
Nevertheless I don't exclude the possibility of other failure. May it's be that motherboard or it's SATA controller? Doubt it, because all drives are seen in BIOS and I could load from DVD.
Maybe GRUB got bugged somehow, although I don't see how it's possible from Windows. But I did install KUbuntu from Windows (i wasn't myself then), maybe GRUB did write itself in some windows partition and got rewriteen in process?
Right now I am at work with my flash drive with me and I need some advice how to fix MBR or to hear if it's not MBR.
I'm going to buy new HDD (Hitachi 7k2000) because I think that my current HDD is compromised and it's unsafe to use it as system drive, especially 24/7.
We have critical servers (webservers and databases) that are fully replicated, except for the reverse proxy that we use to hide the internal stuff. This proxy is acting like a router that filters and redirects traffic to the main server and switch for failover if the main one is down.
We want to find an alternative to this proxy because one single entry point is not enough.
Is there any company that has a solid and redundant infrastructure that offers redirection to an IP and allows quick switching to another one?
A tech friend installed VMware on my Mac so I could use my Windows programs as well. It worked great until I inserted my Sierra 881 USB wireless card while in VMware trying to get to the internet while on the road. It worked briefly, then the AT&T Communication manager won't respond when you click on the icon, I can't open Network and Sharing center, I can't sync my palm - shows it can't connect. Looks like it messed up several things, along with not being able to connect to the internet while in windows. This wireless cards works directly from the Mac - but I need internet while in Windows for some work I am doing. How do I uninstall this - when I try - it just gives me an endless reloading circle - not doing anything. I really need to sync my palm and get back to the way it was. I don't know much about VMware at all and I don't have access to my friend right now to get help.
So, what hosts do you recommend? The problem is, I can't manage the server. I know there's options out there like slicehost and vps.net, but management doesn't come with those. All I need is a simple lamp stack that can easily scale. Stuff like cloud sites (rackspace) is too expensive (starts at $150/month). I only need something small for now.
Suggestions?
I love AutuCAD. It's powerful, easy to use, and fits engineering mind. It rocks when you want to draw 2D diagrams and shapes and one the cool features I like about it, is its snapping power. You draw a simple rectangle, then you can very easily create a circumscribe circle around it.
However, new version of it are becoming really heavy (in size) and need high tech hardware, because of its powerful 3D capabilities, and rendering engines coming with it.
I only want the 2D part of AutoCAD. Is there any software out there, which resembles AutoCAD (like having a console, where you can type L and get the line tool, or having snapping capability, etc.), but is small in size?
In other words, what software can be named as AutoCAD 2D alternative?
say I have a wordpress site:
https://www.foobar.com
and I want to have an entry point to a rails app at a certain subdirectory within that same domain:
https://www.foobar.com/rails_app
I know this is possible if both the wordpress app and the rails app are hosted on the same box, but is this in anyway possible if they are hosted on different boxes?
I do not want to use subdomains because I am trying to allow ajax post requests from one to the other and not having to deal with single origin policy stuff.
I'm not exactly the most tech savy so please bear with me. I am trying to connect through a proxy with my Virtualbox accounts.
Initially I wanted to just set the browsers in each virtualbox under a proxy but my boss said that it can probably be done right off the bat under the virtualbox accounts itself. Could anyone guide me on how to do this?
All the instructions online state that their should be a proxy setting in preferences however all I see is a Network Adapter tab.
Thanks!
