  is there an inbuilt method of tracking if a bundle has already been loaded? I have several edit views which forexample require jquery and jquery.Validate etc libraries. Which i don't need to reference on the main layout page. Since a page could consist of several different conditional libraries ... ideally i would like @scripts.Render to know if i have already referenced a library and prevent its reloading. Cheers Tim

  I've just converted a project from MVC1 to MVC2. In the MVC1 project the HTTP status code was being set in some of the views. These views are now generating this exception: Server cannot set status after HTTP headers have been sent. What has changed from MVC1 to MVC2 to cause this and is there any way to fix this?

  I’m getting an HttpRequestValidationexception with this error message: “A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client”. But I have AllowHtml on the property that I’m getting the error. The problem is that later in my code I’m getting the following property to know in witch format I will show my view ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format"). And on this “Param Getter” I’m getting the error. Let’s say my code is similar to the following: public class House { [AllowHtml] public string Text { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } [HttpPost, ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult CreateTopic(House h) { //business code if(ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format")) { Return view; } } How can I solve this? I already try with the ValidateInput(false) attribute on the controller action method. Any idea?

  Hi, I'm working on a fairly large project at the moment and am currently in the planning stages. I've done a lot of reading into the various patterns suggested for development, somthing that has split the team at the moment is when using Entity Framework should the classes be passed through the applciation layers so that a view accepts an Entity Framework class or should these classes be mapped to BLL Classes and if so at which point (Controller or Library) should this be done? I'm interested in hearing some positives and negitives for each solutions.

• Proper way to build a data Repository in ASP.NET MVC

  I'm working on using the Repository methodology in my App and I have a very fundamental question. When I build my Model, I have a Data.dbml file and then I'm putting my Repositories in the same folder with it.... IE: Data.dbml IUserRepository.cs UserRepository.cs My question is simple. Is it better to build the folder structure like that above, or is it ok to simply put my Interface in with the UserRepository.cs? Data.dbml UserRepository.cs              which contains both the interface and the class Just looking for "best practices" here. Thanks in advance.

• Problem Paging with Post Action in ASP.NET MVC

  I have a page that takes a number of parameters on a form and posts them to an action. It returns a number of search results that need to be paged through. My pager uses ActionLink; <%= Html.ActionLink(i.ToString(), "Basic", new { page = (i - 1) })%> The results comeback as expected but when I click on page two it goes to the default Action, not the one marked with post. The form values do no get submitted again and the results that are shown for page two are the default results not filters with the parameters. I am not sure how to solve this problem? One way was to save the form values into the database on the post and reading them back on the default action but it seems overkill. Thank You!

• jquery ui css not loading and creating poblems with asp.net mvc3 page (unexpected token error)

  hi, So I suspect Im doing something silly, but first off, I can see that my mvc3 project already had jquery ui in it but no theme css files. I needed a date picked and as usual needed to override the EditorFor DateTime. I started off today by just using the default jquery ui js files supplied with the project under scripts. The date picker shows up fine, only with a completed messed up UI based on Site.css. So now I downloaded a build of jquery (with the start theme) and followed this page about how to put it together. Im using T4MVC so my page looks like this: Layout.cshtml : <script src="@Links.Scripts.jquery_1_4_4_js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="@Links.Content.Site_css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="@Links.Content.start.jquery_ui_1_8_7_custom_css" type="text/javascript"></script> Create.cshtml <script src="@Links.Scripts.jquery_validate_min_js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Links.Scripts.jquery_validate_unobtrusive_min_js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Links.Scripts.jquery_ui_1_8_7_custom_min_js" type="text/javascript"></script> And this is the result: Any ideas, Ive been googleing for a while now, I tried a couple combinations of where I put the script and css files tags in different places, but nothing seems to work.

  Hello, Actually im doing a home page that only have an action called Index() that returns the view Index.ascx. This index page will be composed by lastest news and lastest registered users, i think that create two partial views is the best idea (this way i could use it in other views). for other hand i have a data access class that calls to database for get stuff (get last news, get last users, etc...) My question is simple, should i call to the this data access class in the Index() action of my HomeController, and add to the ViewData the data obtained? I think that this index() action shouldnt be the responsable of passing this data to the partial views, right? Could you give me a hand? im messing too much? ;-) Thanks in advance. Best Regards. • How can you block access form internet explorer in asp mvc

  I love microsoft development products! I hate microsoft browsers... I have made the decision to cut ties with internet explorer until they add support for some common W3 approved items. Namely 'multiple' in forms as well as about 5 other things... and as such I would like to urge my visitors to use a better browser. is there a way to setup an http handler or perhaps something in the asax file to route all ie users to a custom page?   Hey there, I'm trying to use Ajax.BeginForm() to POST A Json result from my controller (I'm using MVC3). When the Json result is called it should be sent to a javascript function and extract the object using "var myObject = content.get_response().get_object();", However it just throws a "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method" when trying to invoke the Ajax POST.   Hi I have a question about Html.ActionLink. Imagine: @Html.ActionLink(item.title, "Singlet", new { id = item.blog_id }) produces http://[url]/[controller]/Singlet/[id] But what if I want to suffix some more arbitrary data at the end? For example: http://[url]/[controller]/Singlet/[id]/#comments To jump to the comments div. I know I can just make the string myself with something like: @( new HtmlString(String.Format("<a href=\"Blog/Singlet/{0}/#comments\">link to comments</a>", item.blog_id)) ) But I am hoping there is a cleaner way, perhaps with ActionLink? Should have all editor features (can be done using open office api, google docs api, Microsoft office web apps api) 2. Should be shared between multiple users and can be edited by multiple users and other sync features (can be done using google docs api, Microsoft office web apps) 3. Can save the document created and edited on my own/ custom server addr. (Which api can support this??? I know open office can support this) Guys can you please suggest me one api which can be used to do all the above. • ASP.Net MVC null reference exception with TextArea name

  Hello, I have a TextArea html helper method I'm calling in a foreach loop. Basically, when I initially load the View it works fine, but when i reload the View and load postback data, the same TextArea throws a NullReferencException and yet the variable I'm using in the TextArea as the name of the TextArea is not null. I've attached a picture below for demonstration: Sorry if it's difficult to see, the blue arrow below is pointing to the variable used to name the TextArea. Again, it works on initial load, but it errors out on postback when the page is reloaded. I'm not sure what's going on.

• Keep an ASP.NET IIS website responsive when time between visits is long

  After years of ASP.NET development I'm actually quite surprised that I can't seem to find a satisfying solution for this. Why does an IIS ASP.NET site always seem to fall asleep (for 2-6 seconds) after a certain time of inactivity (after several hours), during which no HTTP response is sent from server to client. This happens on any type of site, one page or many, db or not, regardless the settings. How can I fix this? During the wait time, the server is not busy and there are no high peaks or (.NET) memory shortages. My guess is, it has to do with Windows moving the IIS process to the background and its memory to the page file, but I'm not sure. Anybody any idea? EDIT: one solution is to send some HTTP request once an hour or so, but I hope for something more constructive. EDIT: what I meant is: after hours of inactivity, it pauses several seconds on any new HTTP request.

• Easiest way to specify the selected option to a dropdown list in ASP.NET MVC

  I have a list of options (IEnumerable< SelectListItem ) in my model that I want to use in multiple dropdowns in my view. But each of these dropdowns could have a different selected option. Is there an easy way to simply specfiy which should be selected if using the Html.DropDownList helper? • Comet with ASP.NET AsyncHttpHandlers

  I am implementing a comet using AsyncHttpHandlers in my current asp.net application. According to my implementation client initially sends Notification Hook request to server (with its user id) on AsyncHttpHandler, and on server side I maintain a Global (Application level) dictionary of userid(key) and IAynsResult (value). So when ever a request is received to send notification to a user I just pick the matching IAsyncResult from the Global Dictionary and send response to the client user. My concern is, is maintaing a Dictionary of Userid and IAsyncResult at Application level a good design? I feel it will put a lot of load on the server, at the time of high traffic. Is there any other way I can achieve the comet. or what will be the good design to achieve comet for high traffic scenarios.

• Handling Exceptions that happen in a asp.net MVC Controller Constructor

  What's the best way to handle exceptions that happen from within a controller's constructor? All I can think of to do is use Application_OnError() or put a try/catch in my ControllerFactory. Neither of these solutions seem ideal. Application_OnError is to broad - I have some non-mvc content in the site that has its own error handling. Using a try/catch block seems kinda hacky. If I'm serving different content type -html/text/json/rss.... I would like to be able to handle the exception from within the action method instead of having to write all kinds of conditions to determine what kind of error message to serve. Am I missing something here, or has anyone else dealt with this?

  I have a asp.net web forms app that uses System.Web.Caching.Cache to cache xml data from a number of web services for 2 hours. webCacheObj.Remove(dataCacheKey) webCacheObj.Insert(dataCacheKey, dataToCache, Nothing, DateTime.Now.AddHours(2), Nothing) Every 90 minutes a Microsoft Search Server hits a particular (spider) page which calls the code to put the objects into the cache. The issue i have is that over a period of time, the memory usage of the application grows exponentially. Lets say that in a week, the memory usage of the application pool grows to over 1gb. I'm using IIS7 and no application pool recycling is currently enabled.

Now my friends, they want to have a website to present the existing products for their customers. I know, I know they will ask me to do this one day. So in the beginning, I have made the controller name to start with "Admin". But now I am not sure the best way to implement their requirements. Could you advise me? 1.For the security reason, I did not allowed anonymous user to access the website a part from the CSS and image files. My question is the controllers' name are not folders' name, how could I set this up? 2.I'm planning to put the admin section into an "area" and will it be a good way to go? • Dynamically compose ASP MVC view based on context

  I have several views that are composed of several partial views based on context. For example, we have a Project view that shows all the details of a project, which includes the scalar values, name etc, and also all the assigned employees, tasks and/or clients. The problem I have is that certain types of project have all of the above sections while others have only two or even on section, ie. details only. What is the best way to compose the Projects master view? I don't want to have logic to check the project in the view. Is there a way to compose a view in code by programatically rendering the relevant partials and ignoring the rest? Otherwise are there any other ideas how to do this in a maintainable way? I could of course just render the partials using if statements to check if they apply, but that way the view contains VERY important logic. In another situation we want to use this method to display content based on the type of subscription a user has. Thanks!
