• AMF through a BinarySocket written in .net

  Hi All, I have a windows service behaving as a Binary Socket sending data to flex applications. Once I try to send strings or int's or any other native data-type, everything is working great. I even succeeded in sending JSon from the server to the client parsing it on Flex. I want to send AMF objects to the client. Meaning, I have a class called User, I want to fill it with data and send it to the client, there I want it to be mapped to an object on the client. How can I achieve this?

  I would like to offer a webservice via JSONP and was wondering, if I need to sanitize the value from the callback parameter. My current server side script looks like this currently (More or less. Code is in PHP, but could be anything really.): header("Content-type: application/javascript"); echo $_GET['callback'] . '(' . json_encode($data) . ')'; This is a classic XSS-vulnerability. If I need to sanitize it, then how? I was unable to find enough information about what might be allowed callback strings.

  i want to normalize date fields from an old badly designed db dump. i now need to update every row, where the datefield only contains the year. update table set date = '01.01.' + date where date like '____' and isnumeric(date) = 1 and date >= 1950 but this will not work, because sql does not do short circuit evaluation of boolean expressions. thus i get an error "error converting nvarchar '01.07.1989' to int" is there a way to work around this? the column also contains strings with a length of 4, which are not numbers (????, 5/96, 70/8, etc.) the table only has 60000 rows

  Hello, gcc 4.4.4 c89 I have always used strncpy to copy strings. I have never really used memmove or memcpy very much. However, I am just wondering when would you decide whether to use strncpy, memmove, or memcpy? The code I am writing is for a client/server application. In the documentation they use bcopy. • How do I pass a parameter from the select list into a function for joining a linq query?

  I have a query that can be summarised in SQL as follows; Select S.StockCode From StockToCheck As S Inner Join GetPOSStock(S.StockCode) As C On S.StockCode = C.StockCode; I'm trying to do the same in Linq but it seems I cannot pass a parameter to the function I am joining on as it has not been parsed by Linq. I imagine it would look like this (vb); Dim x = From S In StockToCheck Join C In GetPOSStock(S) On S Equals C.ProductCode Where the S var is a list of strings. This gives the error 'S' is not declared and points to the S in the function call / join (GetPOSStock). So it does not seem possible to do this in Linq, can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance Ryan

  Hi All, I need to compare different data objects. Can any one tell me how can i do this. I don't know what are the data types i will get priorly. If i need to use any util from apache commons then please give reference to it. At present I am using .equals() for comparing equality of objects .It is working fine when I am comparing quality for two strings. • How to add debug assemblies to my Silverlight 2 application?

  So I know now that the debug assemblies have been intentionally left out of the Silverlight runtime to save space. For that reason I get good detailed error messages on my local machine that has the Silverlight SDK on it, but I don't on a computer with the runtime only. I get the ubiquitous, "Debugging resource strings are unavailable." Unfortunately my requirements are a bit unique. I need to include the debug assembly (not sure which one yet) that will give me details of a regular expression error. And so essentially I want to include the dll in the xap if I can. The problem is that I can't seem to do this. I've tried adding the debug dll's as references and setting them to "copy local." And I've tried adding them into the project as content. But in fact, with either method the xap hardly grows in size and the error message doesn't change. Any ideas?

• List of fundamental data structures - what am I missing?

  I've been studying my fundamental data structures a bunch recently, trying to make sure I've got them down cold. By "fundamental", I mean the real basic ones. Fancy ones like Red-Black Trees and Bloom Filters are clearly worth knowing, but they're usually either enhancements of fundamental ones (Red-Black Trees are binary search trees with special properties to keep them balanced) or they're only useful in very specific situations (Bloom Filters). So far, I'm "fluent" in the following data structures: Arrays Linked Lists Stacks/Queues Binary Search Trees Heaps/Priority Queues Hash Tables However, I feel like I'm missing something. Are there any fundamental ones that I'm forgetting about? EDIT: Added these after posting the question Strings (suggested by catchmeifyoutry) Sets (suggested by Peter) Graphs (suggested by Nick D and aJ) B-Trees (Suggested by tloach) I'm a little on-the-fence about whether these are too fancy or not, but I think they're different enough from the fundamental structures (and important enough) to be worth studying as fundamental.

• Typed DefaultListModel to avoid casting

  Is there a way in java to have a ListModel that only accepts a certain type? What I'm looking for is something like DefaultListModel<String> oder TypedListModel<String>, because the DefaultListModel only implements addElement(Object obj) and get(int index) which returns Object of course. That way I always have to cast from Object to e.g. String and there is no guarantee that there are only strings in my model, even though I'd like to enforce that. Is this a flaw or am I using list models the wrong way?

  Hello, Say I have a string. Then I have a number of unique tokens or keywords, potentially a large number in a database. I want to search and find out which of these database strings are inside the string I provide (and get the IDs of them). Is there a way of using a query to search the provided string or must it be taken to application space? Am I right in thinking that this is not a 'full text search'? Would the best method be to insert it into the database to make it a full text search?

The warning it gives me is 'UITextView' may not respond to '-stringByAppendingString:' When I replace output with at string it works though and that confused me. Any suggestions?   I have a datagridview in a windows form with 3 columns: Serial number, Name and Date-Time. The Name column will always have either of the two values: "name1" or "name2". I need to sort these columns such that the grid displays all the rows with name values in a specific order (first display all the "name1" rows and then all the "name2" rows). Within the "name1" rows, I want the rows to be sorted by the Date-Time. Please note programmatically, all the 3 columns are strings. • Calling DLL functions from VB6.

  I've got a Windows DLL that I wrote, written in C/C++ (all exported functions are 'C'). The DLL works fine for me in VC++. I've given the DLL to another company who do all their development in VB. They seem to be having a problem linking to the functions. I haven't used VB in ten years and I don't even have it installed. What could be the problem? I've declared all my public functions as follows: define MYDCC_API __declspec(dllexport) MYDCCL_API unsigned long MYDCC_GetVer( void); . . . Any ideas? Finally got back to this today and have it working. • Is there a web site where I can paste a SQL Insert statement and have it break it out by column?

  I've been working on an application that has no discernable data access layer, so all the SQL statements are just built up as strings and executed. I'm constantly confronted by very long INSERT statements where I'm trying to figure out what value in the VALUES list matches up with what column in the column name list. I was about to create a little helper application where I could paste in an INSERT statement and have it show me a list of values matched up with the column names, just for debugging, and I thought, "someone else has probably done this already." Does anyone know of a web site where I can just paste in an INSERT statement and have it show me a two column table with column names in the first column and values in the second column?

  I want to make this clear up front : I know how this trick works, what I want is a link to a clear explanation to share with others. One of the answers to a C macro question talks about the "X macro" or "not yet defined macro" idiom. This involves defining something like: #define MAGIC_LIST \ X(name_1, default_1) \ X(name_2, default_2) \ ... Then to create, say, an array of values with named indices you do: typedef enum { #define X(name, val) name, MAGIC_LIST #undef X } NamedDefaults; You can repeat the procedure with a different #define for X() to create an array of values, and maybe debugging strings, etc. I'd like a link to a clear explanation of how this works, pitched at someone who is passably familiar with C. • Large tables of static data with DBGhost

  We are thinking of restructuring our database development and deployment processes by using DBGhost, we want to move away from the central development database and bring the database to the source control. One of the problems we have is a big table with static data (containing translated language strings), it has close to 200K rows. I know that our best solution is to move these stings into resource files, but until we implement that, will DbGhost be able to maintain all this static data and generate our development and deployment databases in a short time? And if not is there a good alternative to filling up this table whenever we need to?

  What is the algorithm used by the memberwise equality test in .NET structs? I would like to know this so that I can use it as the basis for my own algorithm. I am trying to write a recursive memberwise equality test for arbitrary objects (in C#) for testing the logical equality of DTOs. This is considerably easier if the DTOs are structs (since ValueType.Equals does mostly the right thing) but that is not always appropriate. I would also like to override comparison of any IEnumerable objects (but not strings!) so that their contents are compared rather than their properties. This has proven to be harder than I would expect. Any hints will be greatly appreciated. I'll accept the answer that proves most useful or supplies a link to the most useful information. Thanks.

  I'm trying to create a Model that has fields that have the following attributes translatable: verbose_name and choices. I can easily do this by tagging the strings and using the i18l middleware. The problem is that I don't want to define the translation in po/mo files. Is there a way to pull this data from a database table? If so, any examples? There are some options out there that offer model content translation. That is not my case. I need to translate the verbose_name, choices and error_messages from database.

  I utilize a (nested) plist to populate UITableViews where users can select entries at the deepest levels and set a checkmark (or not). I want to save these selections in a same structured list where at the deepest level the NSArray contains bool values instead the text strings that are displayed in the UITableView. • K&R Exercise 1-21 - Mental incomprehension.

  The "impossible" K&R exercise. "Write a program entab that replaces strings of blanks by the minimum number of tabs and blanks to achieve the same spacing. Use the same tab stops, say every n columns. Should n be a variable or a symbolic parameter?" The problem I'm having is, I'm unsure about how to even do this correctly. I know it's not very explanatory, but that's pretty much the problem here. Most of the examples I've seen have counted a number of blanks, and replaced those series with a tab, but this isn't what its asking, I reckon I understand what its asking, but currently feel unable to do this. Could anyone help :)

• Iterator for second to last element in a list

  I currently have the following for loop: for(list<string>::iterator jt=it->begin(); jt!=it->end()-1; jt++) I have a list of strings which is in a larger list (list<list<string> >). I want to loop through the contents of the innerlist until I get to the 2nd to last element. This is because I have already processed the contents of the final element, and have no reason to process them again. However, using it->end()-1 is invalid -- I cannot use the - operator here. While I could use the -- operator, this would decrement this final iterator on each cycle. I believe a STL list is a doubly linked list, so from my perspective, it should be possible to do this.   I have fews combinations of strings that I need to bring in to one pattern, that is multiple spaces should be removed, double hyphens should be replaced with single hypen, and single space should be replaced with single hyphen. I have already tried this expression. $output = preg_replace( "/[^[:space:]a-z0-9]/e", "", $output ); $output = trim( $output ); $output = preg_replace( '/\s+/', '-', $output ); But this fails in few combinations. I need help in making all of these combinations to work perfectly: steel-black steel- black steel black I should also remove any of these as well "\r\n\t".

  I've seen other questions about this exception, but all of them seem to be resolved with the solution that a row with the primary key specified already exists. This doesn't seem to be the case for me. I have tried replacing all single quotes in my strings with double quotes, but the same problem occurs.
