• How to escape/strip special characters in the LaTeX document?

  We implemented the online service where it is possible to generate PDF with predefined structure. User can choose a LaTeX template and then compile it with an appropriate inputs. The question we worry about is the security, that the malicious user was not able to gain shell access through the injection of special instruction into latex document. We need some workaround for this or at least a list of special characters that we should strip from the input data. Preferred language would be PHP, but any suggestions, constructions and links are very welcomed. PS. in few word we're looking form mysql_real_escape_string for LaTeX

  I'm a developer (and therefore a tester) of a website. Our site accepts any JavaScript or HTML from an user but I haven't been successful in explaining the danger of it, as obvious as it is. So I would like to prove it by logging in as my boss to prove to him that there is definitely a real danger here. I think this will put down any of his arguments and let us move onto filtering content like this. (note this question is not about filtering, or other suggestions on JavaScript tricks) I already know how to steal the value of the document.cookie variable with AJAX and a PHP file, but once you have that string of name=value;name=value;..., how do you apply it to your own browser? • converting tabular structures in a Word document into an actual table or reading data from the tabul

  I have a macro which can read the last cell/column of all tables in a Word 2003/2007 document and store the data in an MS-Access table. But, some Word documents have the data in structures like a table format but are not actually tables. The structure looks like a table, but the table borders are actually line connectors. These documents were created by a software(VeryPDF PDF to Word converter) which converted the PDF documents(the original format these documents were) into Word documents. Is there a way I can convert/replace the tabular structures with actual tables in Word so that I can use the macro? Or, is there a way I can read the value of the last column from the tabular structures using some VBA code? Any advice would be appreciated.

• Is there a reference document for OOTB SharePoint web part interfaces?

  I want my web parts to act as providers and consumers with OOTB SharePoint web parts, including filters. To design these web parts I need to know the interface of the OOTB web parts, eg. a "Links" web part provides an IWebPartRow, with a Type, URL and Notes. I can get the information by: a web part programmed to interact generically, and display the data it receives putting the web parts on a page, and look at the available connections inspecting the DLL's (haven't tried this, because I can't find the DLL's, but I guess it's possible) It seems strange to me that there is no documentation of these interfaces. Is there a Microsoft document, or a book, which documents the OOTB web parts and filters?

Or why an SNL doesn't inherit from an Array in such a way that you could use map, concat, etc?   In ASP.NET, is it possible to set a path from a web.config in a subdir that is not setup as a virtual directory? In other words, can I reference a private assembly in the ~/subdir/bin folder? Take a look at my setup below, and let me know if I'm doing something wrong, please. Let me explain why I'm doing this: my page is setup in ~/subdir. I don't have write access to the root.   Hello world, I've grown tired of the built-in open Mac OS X command, mostly because it runs programs with your actual user ID instead of the effective user ID; this results in the fact sudo open Foo opens Foo with its associated application with your account instead of the root account, and it annoys me. So I decided to make some kind of replacement. So far I've been successful: I can open any program under the open -a or open -b fashion, and support optionally waiting. I'm using NSTask for that purpose. However, I'd like to be able to open documents too. As far as I can see, you need to use NSWorkspace for that, but using NSWorkspace to launch programs results in them being launched with your account's credentials instead of your command line program's credentials. Which is precisely what the default open tool does, and precisely what I don't want. So, how can I have a program request that another program opens a document without using NSWorkspace? From the NSTask object, I can have the process ID, but that's about it.

  I have a pretty simple operation but am struggling with how to implement it. I am loading XML from an external data source using a DataSet.ReadXml(), the creating a new XMLDataDocument from that data set, then syncing the Dataset back to the XMLDataDocument like so: doc = new XmlDataDocument(dsDataSet); dsDataSet.EnforceConstraints = false; dsDataSet= doc.DataSet; Once loaded I do two things to the XmlDataDocument: Loop through and check if a purely meta node, count, exists right beneath the root node and if so remove it. a thumb node exists in a second level nodelist and if not, create and append it. This is all going a expected because the result of doc.save() looks correct. Where I'm having an issue is updating the Dataset, which is being applied as the data source for an ASP DataGrid. Once all the above XMLDoc manipaulation is done I do this: dsDataSet.Merge(doc.DataSet); dsDataSet.AcceptChanges(); I then apply the data set to the grid control: dgList.DataSource = dsDataSet; dgList.DataBind(); But, when I do this I get this error on the site: System.Web.HttpException: DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'thumb'. What did I miss?

• How do I get Google Chrome's root bookmarks folder?

  Hi, I'm trying to write a better bookmark manager in chrome extensions. The problem is there are no simple examples (that I can find) about how to actually use the bookmarks api (available here: http://code.google.com/chrome/extensions/bookmarks.html ) I've looked at the example source (when I d/led and installed it on my computer it didn't do anything except provide a search box. Typing/typing and pressing return failed to do anything) and can't find anything useful. My ultimate goal is to make an extension that allows me to save pages to come and read later without having to go sign up for an account on some service somewhere. So I plan to create either one or two bookmark folders in the root folder/other bookmarks - at minimum an "unread pages" folder. In that folder I'll create the unread bookmarks. When the user marks the item as read, it will be removed from that folder. So that's what I'm trying to do... any help will be greatly appreciated, even if it's just pointing me to some good examples.   Hi all! I've only just started using Kohana ( 3 hours ago), and so far it's blown my socks off (and I'm wearing slippers, so that's quite impressive). Right now, I have a controller 'Controller_FrontPage' with associated views and models and I'm trying to get it accesible from the root of my website (eg, http://www.mysite.com/). If I edit the default controller in the bootstrap from: Route::set('default', '(<controller>(/<action>(/<id>)))') ->defaults(array( 'controller' => 'welcome', 'action' => 'index', )); to 'controller' => '', I get an error, could not find controller_ (which makes sense), and if I change it to 'controller' => '/', I get an error, could not find controller_/ (which also makes sense). If I set 'controller' => 'FrontPage', everything works fine, but all my links (html::anchor(...)) point to http://www.mysite.com/FrontPage/*. Is there a way to have all the anchors point to http://www.mysite.com/*?

  I'm not familiar with some of these forwarding methods and I need help. My issue is this: I have a site hosted on discountasp.net. My domain was registered through 1&1 and I redirected the DNS to what discountasp.net wanted. So when a user types www.mydomain.com, he/she sees the ASP.NET site hosted on discountasp.net, which is all fine My main page is Index.aspx, I really suck at html page design and I don't have time or the talent to fiddle with it (or money to get it done by a pro). The rest of the pages are fine. I want to use a good theme from tumblr or bloggr - one of the blog sites and create a page that I want to use as the first page - directly on blogger or tumblr - say yyy.blogspot.com (I have many reasons, so for now please don't bash my decision - let's just say that's what I want). That means when a user types www.mydomain.com, it should redirect it to the blogger or tumblr page. Everything else stays the sme - the links on the blogger page will say www.mydomain.com/xxxx and show up what's on the hosted website. I have setup the IIS rewrite rules etc. etc. so that all works just fine The bottom line is I want to show an external site's web page as my root page. I suppose I'm struggling to even explain what I want! I can of course do a response.redirect on the Index.aspx page - which is the simplest way to manage this, but the big question is will this hurt SEO in some way? If not, that would be what I do and leave the rest of the infrastructure intact (I have already done this to test and it works fine) Thank you very much j

• What can a company possibly gain by making Android phones hard to root?

  As someone who recently got a HTC Hero, I had to jump through several hoops to get root access on the phone to install custom firmware. Now, Android is open-source and fairly easy to build and hack on an emulator. It seems to be against the spirit of open-source to lock down a phone so you can't hack the phone itself. Now, often, there are understandable (though not always justifiable) reasons for locking a device down. For example, it might have proprietary software on it or you might want to retain control of the platform. However, Android by its open-source nature makes such concerns moot. Everyone and their dog has access to the userland code, and HTC is forced by the GPL to release kernel sources for each of their devices. So, I fail to see any motivation for alienating the hackers, when there is no possible benefit (in my mind) to be had from doing this. Any idea why a company would want to do this? Is it just short-sightedness or am I missing possible commercial implications of this?

  I am trying to do something I thought would be quite simple, however it is not so straight forward and google has not helped. I am using iTextSharp to merge PDF documents (letters) together so they can all be printed at once. If a letter has an odd number of pages I need to append a blank page, so we can print the letters double-sided.   Has anyone had any success in using the Enter USB TV Box from Enter Multimedia? It comes bundled with software that works in Windows. I have had no luck using it in Ubuntu 10.10. All computer stores in India sell Enter USB TV Box if you ask for an USB TV tuner. No other brand seems to be interested in this market. Update 3 I learned that this TV tuner is rebranded version of Gadmei UTV302 (USB TV Tuner Box). Update 4 I tried adding em28xx as the chipset (as suggested by user BOBBO below) for the tuner but that did not work. I went back to my Pinnacle PCTV internal card. I don't think the tuner referred by UbuntuForums (Gadmei UTV 330) and the tuner that I have (Gadmei UTV 302) are the same. My USB tuner is several times bigger. My tuner seems to be a newer device with a newer tuner chip. I will submit details of this device to the LinuxTV developers this weekend. Update 5 I opened the tuner box and found that it uses a tuner from a Chinese company - Tenas. Model is TNF 8022-DFA. Update 6 Tuner chip specs (retrived from supplier directory) for Tenas TNF 8022-DFA. Supply voltage: true 5V device(low power dissipation) Control system: I2C bus control of tuning, address selection Tuning system: PLL controlled tuning Receiving system: system PAL D/K,IF(Intermediate Frequency): 38MHz Receiving channels: full frequency range from channel DS1 (49.75MHz) to channel DS57 (863.25MHz); Use Texas Instruments SN761678 IC solution, with mini install size Update 7 Reverse side of the circuit board.   I'm trying to find the best (efficient) way of doing this. I have a medium sized XML document. Depending on specific settings certain portions of it need to be filtered out for security reasons. I'll be doing this in XSLT as it's configurable and no code should need changing. I've looked around, but not getting much luck on it. For example: I have the following XPath: //*[@root='2.16.840.1.113883.3.51.1.1.6.1'] Whicrooth gives me all nodes with a root attribute equal to a specific OID. In these nodes I want to have all attributes except for a few (ex. foo and bar) erased, and then having another attribute added (ex. reason) I also need to have multiple XPath expressions that can be ran to zero down on a specific node and clear it's contents out in a similar fashion, with respect to nodes with specific attributes. I'm playing around with information from: XPath expression to select all XML child nodes except a specific list? and XSLT Remove Elements and/or Attributes by Name per XSL Parameters Will update shortly when I can have access what what I"ve done so far. • How to clean-up an Entity Framework object context?

  I am adding several entities to an object context. try { forach (var document in documents) { this.Validate(document); // May throw a ValidationException. this.objectContext.AddToDocuments(document); } this.objectContext.SaveChanges(); } catch { // How to clean-up the object context here? throw; } If some of the documents pass the the validation and one fails, all documents that passed the validation remain added to the object context. I have to clean-up the object context because it may be reused and the following can happen. var documentA = new Document { Id = 1, Data = "ValidData" }; var documentB = new Document { Id = 2, Data = "InvalidData" }; var documentC = new Document { Id = 3, Data = "ValidData" }; try { // Adding document B will cause a ValidationException but only // after document A is added to the object context. this.DocumentStore.AddDocuments(new[] { documentA, documentB, documentC }); } catch (ValidationException) { } // Try again without the invalid document B. this.DocumentStore.AddDocuments(new[] { documentA, documentC }); This will again add document A to the object context and in consequence SaveChanges() will throw an exception because of a duplicate primary key. So I have to remove all already added documents in the case of an validation error. I could of course perform the validation first and only add all documents after they have been successfully validated. But sadly this does not solve the whole problem - if SaveChanges() fails all documents still remain add but unsaved. I tried to detach all objects returned by this.objectContext.ObjectStateManager.GetObjectStateEntries(EntityState.Added) but I am getting a exception stating that the object is not attached. So how do I get rid of all added but unsaved objects?

To be more specific, the XML file is the RSS source for the nuPack project. Any ideas would be very appreaciated on how to be able to read this document properly.

It doesn't seem to me that I have invalid content in the prolog of my XML file. I can't figure out what is wrong. Please help. Thanks.
