• Bound a treeview control to user-defined complex type using EF 4

  Hi, I use Asp.net, SQL 2008 and EF 4. I need display hierarchy data in a treeview control, Data is stored in a DB that use HierarchyId. Unfortunately, EF4 doesn't support HierarchyId. So in this case, I thought to have a stored procedure that deals with my hierarchy and return a result set back to EF that EF4 can turn into a collection of user-defined complex type that can then be bound directly to the treeview control. I imported a SPROC in EF 4 using Import Function and now I have a Complex DataType called: CategoryHierarchy_Result An image of my Model: Here some data from the Complex Type (in a GridView for example GridView1.DataSource = context.CategoryHierarchy(1);): My questions is: How to display my data from my Complex Type in a TreeView Control, showing a Tree structure that respect CategoryNodeString? • Need sorted dictionary designed to find values with keys less or greater than search value

  Hi I need to have objects sorted by price (decimal) value for fast access. I need to be able to find all objects with price more then A or less than B. I was thinkg about SortedList, but it does not provide a way to find ascending or descending enumerator starting from given key value (say give me all objects with price less than $120). Think of a system that accepts items for sell from users and stores them into that collection. Another users want to find items cheaper than $120. Basically what i need is tree-based collection and functionality to find node that is smaller\greater\equal to provided key. Please advice.

  Hi, Does anyone know of a solid C# library / approach to manage a hierarchy/web type collection? This would be a library that would basic consist of the concept of nodes & relationships, for example to model web pages/files linked under a URL, or modeling IT infrastructure. It would have key methods such as: Node.GetDirectParents() Node.GetRootParents() Node.GetDirectChildren() Node.GetAllChildren() So it's smarts would include the ability to "walk the tree" of nodes based on the relationships when someone does ask for "give me all the children under this node" for example. It ideally include a persistence layer, to save/retrieve such data to/from a databases (e.g. with a Nodes and Relationships table). Thanks

• Mercurial - How to stop tracking modified file but keep the first version in repository.

  I create the hg repository with my source tree. I want to keep the first version of some files such as Makefile in the repository and then hg don't see it modified even through I modified it. Original problem is that ./configure usually modifies the Makefile but I don't want the build files to committed in the repository. So I want to keep only first version of configure and Makefile in the repository so that everybody who clone my repository can run ./configure by themself and not bother the repository I tried hg remove or hg forget but those are stop tracking and also delete the files in the next revision of reporitory. .hgignore doesn't do the things too. I think of hg revert everytimes I run ./configure or make but it's not efficient way. Are there any better ways?

• HTML: How to get a child element to show behind (lower z-index) than its parent

  I need for a certain dynamic element to always appear on top of another element, no matter what order in the DOM tree they are. Is this possible? I've tried z-index (with position: relative), and it doesn't seem to work. I hate to be vague, but this is the simplest way I can think of asking this question without explaining its purpose ad nauseum. So, to recap, I need <div class="a"> <div class="b"></div> </div> <div class="b"> <div class="a"></div> </div> To display exactly the same when rendered. And for flexibility purposes (I'm planning on distributing a plugin that needs this functionality), I'd really like to not have to resort to absolute or fixed positioning.

  Hey, I'm making an e-shop and to display the tree of categories and all the products with their multiple variations of prices I made like more than 150 mysql_query("SELECT ..."); queries on one page. (If I count the "while" loops). Is it too many, and if yes, can it have any negative effect? (ofc. it takes longer to load the data ..) • Why not speed up testing by using function dependency graph?

  It seems logical to me that if you have a dependency graph of your source code (tree showing call stack of all functions in your code base) you should be able to save a tremendous amount of time doing functional and integration tests after each release. Essentially you will be able to tell the testers exactly what functionality to test as the rest of the features remain unchanged from a source code point of view. If for instance you change a spelling mistake in once piece of the code, there is no reason to run through your whole test script again "just in case" you introduced a critical bug. My question, why are dependency trees not used in software engineering and if you use them, how do you maintain them? What tools are available that generate these trees for C# .NET, C++ and C source code?

  I have a few large projects I am working on in my new place of work, which have a complicated set of statically linked library dependencies between them. The libs number around 40-50 and it's really hard to determine what the structure was initially meant to be, there isn't clear documentation on the full dependency map. What tools would anyone recommend to extract such data? Presumably, in the simplest manner, if did the following: define the set of paths which correspond to library units set all .cpp/.h files within those to belong to those compilation units capture the 1st order #include dependency tree One would have enough information to compose a map - refactor - and recompose the map, until one has created some order. I note that http://www.ndepend.com have something nice but that's exclusively .NET unfortunately. I read something about Doxygen being able accomplish some static dependency analysis with configuration; has anyone ever pressed it into service to accomplish such a task?

  Hi, How can GQL support ORDER BY when it does not support aggregation? The question is - if say the result of the query is more than 1000, does ORDER BY return fully ordered list or only the first 1000 items which is then ordered? To explain the question more: is conceptually MIN() same as query.orderby('asc').fetch(1)? If it is properly ordering the list, then how can it not provide COUNT(), since to properly order the list, GQL possibly has to parse through the whole list - in which case, COUNT() is not an issue at all? Or is item indexed and kept in some type of tree so that it does not need to parse it all the time?

  I'm trying to use XMLEncoder to write an object graph (tree in my case) to a file. However, one class contained in it is not actually a Java bean and I don't particularly like making its guts publicly accessible. It's accessed more like a list and has appropriate add methods. I've already written a custom PersistenceDelegate to deal with that. However, is there any way for XMLEncoder to pick it up on its own or do I really need to add it whenever I use an encoder to write a graph that may contain said class?

• Processing an n-ary ANTLR AST one child at a time

  I currently have a compiler that uses an AST where all children of a code block are on the same level (ie, block.children == {stm1, stm2, stm3, etc...}). I am trying to do liveness analysis on this tree, which means that I need to take the value returned from the processing of stm1 and then pass it to stm2, then take the value returned by stm2 and pass it to stm3, and so on. I do not see a way of executing the child rules in this fashion when the AST is structured this way. Is there a way to allow me to chain the execution of the child grammar items with my given AST, or am I going to have to go through the painful process of refactoring the parser to generate a nested structure and updating the rest of the compiler to work with the new AST?   This question is based on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/359424/detach-subdirectory-into-separate-git-repository Instead of detaching a single subdirectory, I want to detach a couple. For example, my current directory tree looks like this: /apps /AAA /BBB /CCC /libs /XXX /YYY /ZZZ And I would like this instead: /apps /AAA /libs /XXX The --subdirectory-filter argument to git filter-branch won't work because it gets rid of everything except for the given directory the first time it's run. I thought using the --index-filter argument for all unwanted files would work (albeit tedious), but if I try running it more than once, I get the following message: Cannot create a new backup. A previous backup already exists in refs/original/ Force overwriting the backup with -f Any ideas? TIA

• I want a machine to learn to categorize short texts

  Hello, I have a ton of short stories about 500 words long and I want to categorize them into one of, let's say, 20 categories: Entertainment Food Music etc I can hand-classify a bunch of them, but I want to implement machine learning to guess the categories eventually. What's the best way to approach this? Is there a standard approach to machine learning I should be using? I don't think a decision tree would work well since it's text data...I'm completely new in this field. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

• SEO URL building - simple or hierarchy

  I run an online shop and I wonder what would be more SEO-friendly URL for a product page: a) domain.com/category-name/product-name OR b) domain.com/product-name I already have URL-s for product category pages with format domain.com/category-name. On one hand I heard (but cannot find proof for) that Google like tree hierarchies in URL (vote for "a"). On the other hand though longer URL could lead to smaller kewyord density, also "product_name" comes as the last URL part so probably the least important (vote for "b"). Maybe both options are equally SEO-effective? PS. I know about canonical URL's but this is not the case, I don't want/need both URL's formats, just want to choose the best.

  Hi So here is my problem. I want to store 2-tuple (key, val) and want to perform following operations: - keys are strings and values are Integers - multiple keys can have same value - adding new tuples - updating any key with new value (any new value or updated value is greater than the previous one, like timestamps) - fetching all the keys with values less than or greater than given value - deleting tuples. Hash seems to be the obvious choice for updating the key's value but then lookups via values will be going to take longer (O(n)). The other option is balanced binary search tree with key and value switched. So now lookups via values will be fast (O(lg(n))) but updating a key will take (O(n)). So is there any data-structure which can be used to address these issues? Thanks.

  Running ActiveState Perl 5.8.8 on WinXP. As the title suggests, I'd like to output an XML file as UTF-8 with UNIX line endings. I've looked at the PerlDoc for binmode, but am unsure of the exact syntax (if I'm not barking up the wrong tree). • Can I undo the last git push?

  A team member accidentally pushed half a gig of unwanted zips to the remote repo last night when they were in a rush. Yes... oops. Nobody has pulled or committed since. Ideally I want to just 'undo' what happened. I have looked at filter-branch and was thinking of trying something like git filter-branch --tree-filter 'rm -f *.zip' HEAD but that would be local, and I can't figure out how to do it direct on the remote repo. Is there a simpler way to undo what happened? If she amends her last commit and pushes again will that undo the push - ie actually remove those files from the history? Obviously if she deletes them, commits and pushes again then that still leaves the content in the repo, which is no good.

• jQuery li:has(ul) selector issue

  I was creating a tree using UL LI list and jQuery.
