• wakeonlan from remote host

  I have setup wake on lan service on my server. Everything works fine on local area network: root@server$: poweroff user@local$ wakeonlan AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF and the server wakes up. AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF is a MAC address of my server, which has IP 192.168.1.2 and hostname: example.com. It is connected to the router, which has IP 192.168.1.1 (public: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) When the server is up, I can ping: ping example.com or login via ssh: ssh [email protected] So far, so good. Now I'm able to wake the server up from local area, but how to wake the server from the remote location? I tried: user@local$ wakeonlan -i xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF, but it does not work (nothing happens;). Do I have to configure my router somehow to forward magic packets? How?

  I have two Ubuntu machines with wifi network cards configured as DHCP interfaces. machine1: inet addr:192.168.168.105 Bcast:192.168.168.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.168.252 machine2: inet addr:192.168.168.104 Bcast:192.168.168.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.168.252 They are connected to the router: inet addr: 192.168.168.252 Internet connection from the router is accessible on both of the machines. How to share files between those two? I have already tried few ways (eg. samba), but it looks like the machines are not visible to each other: @machine1$: ping 192.168.168.104 From 192.168.168.105 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable What do I need to configure? Apparmor? Firewall?

• Unable to change the launcher icon size

  After upgrading to 11.10 I can't change the launcher icon size to smaller. I've tried to change it using ccsm, like described in How can I configure Unity, but the changes take no effects (restarted, tried sudo - still big icons). In the previous version of Ubuntu this solution worked. How can I change the icon size? (BTW, how can I know which Unity (2D vd 3D) I'm running and switch between?). The laptop model is HP dv9500, Ubuntu 10.10, but the same was in the versions before. How can I fix this?   Is there any direct way do contact a „real” person, an YouTube employer? Someone created an account for the company I work for (previous employer). She entered some password and e-mail. The provided e-mail was valid, but since last login (more than two years), we changed our domain, and this e-mail is probably not valid anymore (and we even don't know it), co we can't use option to reset password. I have used all the options in YouTube help center, and no one worked. Also we can't contact this previous employer to get any data she entered in the registration form. The only data I know is the username. All the movies present the products of our company, there are links to our site in movie descriptions, so there should be no problem to prove that the account is ours. This is an urgent case, becouse the movies contain outdated information.

The the file is displayed, but the text is truncated (not rectangular, just after some character limit). How to display the whole file?   I'm trying to set up password-less login with ssh on Ubuntu Server, but I keep getting: Agent admitted failure to sign using the key and prompt for password. I have generated new rsa keys. Before the system reboot it worked just fine. All the links lead me to this bug, but nothing works. SSH Agent is still not running. How to fix that? Maybe the files need specific permissions?

  I have vinyl record rip in 24/96 flac format. Each track is almost 200 MB big, so the album won't fit on CD. How to burn these files on a DVD to play with the same quality on standalone DVD player? My player supports SACD, DVD Audio and DVD video as well. My OS is Ubuntu Lucid (preferred), but I have also WinXp with Nero installed. BTW, is there any difference between DVD+ and DVD- for audio?

  How to get opentype fonts in .otf format working on Ubuntu and OpenOffice 3.2? It would be great if I could use opentype features in OOo, but I'll be glad enough if I could use them even converted to TTF. I've tried numerous ways described on the net, but with no success. For now, I succeeded with using OTF fonts in Inkscape. How to get it working with OOo? Any news about opentype in upcoming versions of OOo? Can you recommend any other alternative to MS Word, or better yet Adobe Indesign with good OTF support?

  I have a strange problem on Windows Vista (Automatic updates). Long time ago I had installed Firefox, Thunderbird, Safari and Opera and they all worked well. Once upon a time, after Windows restart, Firefox, Thunderbird and Safari won't start. [Opera (USB) works fine]. When I start the browser, program name is listed on the processes list, but it is not activated, doesn't show any window. I tried crating new profiles with -ProfileManager, restarting Windows, reinstalling the browsers. I scanned the system for suspected programs and it looks clean. There is 45GB of free HDD space. WTF?

  During copying files via lan my Ubuntu Server 10.04 hung up and I had to reset the computer. After reboot, I got: Grub error 17, so I tried the rescue alternate CD, but I got a info, that no partitions were found on the disk. I used testdisk to restore the partitions. Using fdisk -l shows the partitions now, but when the system boots up I does nothing but displays: L234: When I plug the drive to another computer, it is not automatically mounted and I can't access the data. What to do now? How to restore the grub and boot up the system?

  How to create reasonable expression to store password in database using Doctrine and Zend_Auth::setCredentialTreatment()? I don't want to use md5() and the code must be portable, and with salt. I would call this not easy one to guess: setCredentialTreatment("SHA1(CONCAT(username, SHA1(CONCAT(username, ?)))"); but it is not portable to all databases. Seems that Doctrine_Expression has only md5 expression portability.
