  • VS2010 and CSS: What is the best strategy to individually position form controls

    - by George
OK, I have a ton of controls on my page that I need to individually place. I need to set a margin here, a padding there, etc. None of these particular styles that I want to apply will be applied to more than control. What is the bets practice for determining at which level the style is placed, etc? OK, my choices are 1) External CSS file 1A) Using ClientIdMode = Auto (the default) I could assign a unique CssClass value to the ASP.NET control and, in the external CSS file, create a class selector that would only be applied to that one control. 1B) User Client ID = Predicatable In the external CSS file, I could determine what the ID will be for the controls of interest and create an ID selector (#ControlID{Style} ). However, I fear maintenance issues due to including/removing parent containers that would cause the ID to change. 1C) User Client ID = Static. I could choose static IDs for the controls such that I minimize the likelihood of a clash with auto generated IDs (perhaps by prefixing the ID with "StaticID_" and use an external stylesheet with ID selectors. 2) I could place the style right on the control. The only disadvantage here, as I see it, is that style info is brought down each time instead of being cached , which is what I'd get using an external CSS. If a style isn't resused, I personally don't see much benefit to placing it in an external file, though please explain why if you disagree. Is there moire of a reason that "It's nice to have all the CSS in one place?"

  • FormMethod.Get and query string parameters

    - by parminder
Hi Experts, I am working on a website in asp.net mvc. I have to show a view where user put some search values like tags and titles to search. I want to use the same Index method for that. I have make my form to use formMethod.Get to send the parameters as querystring. so here is the method [HttpGet] public ActionResult Index(string title, string tags, int? page) { if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(title) return View(null); var list = GetSomeData(); return View(list); } here is my view <div id="searchBox"> <% using (Html.BeginForm(null, null, FormMethod.Get)) { %> <table> <tr> <td> <input type="hidden" id="isPosted" name="isPosted" value="1" /> I am looking for <%=Html.TextBox("Title")%> Tags: <%=Html.TextBox("Tags")%> <input id="search" type="submit" value="Search" /> </td> </tr> </table> <% } %> So when the user first visit the page, he will see only two text boxs and a button. but when he types something in the title and tags and click the search button i will load the view with some data. Now the problem is when i type something in title and tags box and click search, they are received in the method, but are not visible in the url. Is there anything i m doing wrong. help will be appreciated. Regards Parminder

  • asp:Menu Not working on webhost

    - by Brian
I'm using Visual Studio Web Express 2008 to develop an ASP.Net website. I have a master page that every page inherits from and on that master page I have the asp:menu control. On my local machine the menu control works just fine. The javascript is emitted and the links work as well. However, when I upload it to my webhost service provider, the javascript is not emitted and my links do not work. I'm getting a feeling that my service provider really doesn't know much about .Net as they suggested that I make sure that I upload the .js files which isn't necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can give them? They're asking me what requirements are needed. It seems to me that something is not setup on their server properly but according to them, they have .Net 3.5 SP1 installed.

  • Email as a view.

    - by Hal
I've been in some discussion recently about where email (notifications, etc...) should be sent in an ASP.NET MVC application. My nemesis grin argues that it only makes sense that the email should be sent from the controller. I argue that an email is simply an alternate or augmented view through a different channel. Much like I would download a file as the payload of an ActionResult, the email is simply delivered through a different protocol. I've worked an extension method that allows me to do the following: <% Html.RenderEmail(model.FromAddress, model.ToAddress, model.Subject); %> which I actually include within my the view that is displayed on the screen. The beauty is that, based on convention, if I call RenderEmail from a parent view named MyView.ascx, I attempt to render the contents of a view named MyViewEmail.ascx, unless it is not found, in which case I simply email a copy of parent view. It certainly does make it testable (I still have an ISMTPService injected for testing), I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on whether or not this breaks from good practice. In use it has been extremely handy when we needed to easily send an email or modify the contents of the emailed results vs the browser rendered results. Thanks, Hal

  • Steps to Investigate Cause of Web.Config Duplicate Section

    - by pauly
Symptoms In IIS Dot Net 2.0 Integrated app pool: double clicking to view any web.config section results in a the following error dialog. "There was an error while performing this operation.... Fielname... web.config... Error: There is a duplicate..." Browsing to the URL displays: "Http 500.19" internal server error.. There is a duplicate... 'system.web.extensions/scripting/scriptResourceHandler' section defined...." Running the app from VS 2008 an "Unable to start debugging on the web server..." dialog is displayed. Things Tried Looked at other application directories on same IIS server. No problem view web.config contents or serving up the app. Removed and re-added the application in IIS. Checked out a new version of the source code. Reverted to prior versions of the web.config file. Looked for web.config files that might have duplicate sections in: Inetpub root. "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config" The "Views" subfolder of the ASP.Net MVC app. Checked out source code to another dev machine. Setup IIS 7 app folder. No problem with Web.config. Question If the reason for this error is another web.config file where else should I look? Are there other reasons for these symptoms?

  • ASP.NET MVC project won't start under IIS 5.1 on Windows XP SP3

    - by mrjoltcola
I've a ASP.NET MVC 2 project that runs fine under Windows 7 and will start on Windows XP if I use the Visual Studio Development Server, however, starting under IIS generates an error: Unable to start debugging on the web server With the message The specified procedure could not be found No errors in the system event viewer. If I start without debugging I get an "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" The reason I run it under IIS is the project also includes some WCF wsHttp web services that use certificates, so the VS Development Server is not adequate for hosting those. I have already seen the links on SO that talk about adding the wildcard mapping. I've already done that, just as I've done on Windows Server 2003 where I successfully host ASP.NET MVC RC2 for quite a while.

  • How to add custom hooks to controllers in ASP.NET MVC2

    - by Adrian
Hi, I've just started a new project in ASP.net 4.0 with MVC 2. What I need to be able to do is have a custom hook at the start and end of each action of the controller. e.g. public void Index() { *** call to the start custom hook to externalfile.cs (is empty so does nothing) ViewData["welcomeMessage"] = "Hello World"; *** call to the end custom hook to externalfile.cs (changes "Hello World!" to "Hi World") return View(); } The View then see welcomeMessage as "Hi World" after being changed in the custom hook. The custom hook would need to be in an external file and not change the "core" compiled code. This causes a problem as with my limited knowledge ASP.net MVC has to be compiled. Does anyone have any advice on how this can be achieved? Thanks

  • ASP.NET error when trying to configure ListView + SqlDatasource for a MySql Table

    - by stighy
Hi, i'm using ASP.NET + a MySql Db. I'm trying to configure a ListView so i've written: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="dsDatiUtente" runat="server" ConnectionString="Server=12.28.136.29;Database=mydb;Uid=m111d1;Pwd=fake;Pooling=false;" ProviderName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM user WHERE idUser=@IdUser" / At the beginning of my aspx page i've added <%@ Import Namespace="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" %> But if i click to the sqldatasource and click "Refresh Schema" i got this error: "Unable to retrive schema.... Unable to find the requested .Net Framework data provider" For instance, i've installed it , but i've also uninstalled old version, then installed new versions. In my project i simple copy Mysql dll into "bin" folder, then add a reference to that dll. I'm not sure is the corrected way... I need to have the "refreshed schema" to permit vs.net to build automatically my listview ... if i can't to "auto build" listview, i have to write all code by hand, and it is a too expensive work me :( What i'm wrong ? Thank you!

  • ASP.NET SetAuthCookie Impersonation Help

    - by rlb.usa
Hello SO, I'm trying to do user impersonation for a web application we have. The user selects the user they'd like to emulate/impersonate and then clicks the button which fires this: protected void uxImpersonate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ... FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(uxUserToEmulate.SelectedValue, false); Response.Redirect("Impersonation.aspx"); //reload page manually } We have a dev - test - production server environment and on two servers this works just fine, but on another one, in all browsers, it kicks me to the login screen. What's going on and how can I fix it? We're on ASP.NET 2.0, and I'm using http://stackoverflow.com/questions/549016/user-impersonation-with-asp-net-forms-authentication as a guide. UPDATE: It appears that the user actually is impersonated successfully but is loosing their Role as admin (only Admin Role's can access this impersonation page).

  • Having trouble scraping an ASP .NET web page

    - by Seth
    I am trying to scrape an ASP.NET website but am having trouble getting the results from a post. I have the following python code and am using httplib2 and BeautifulSoup: conn = Http() # do a get first to retrieve important values page = conn.request(u"http://somepage.com/Search.aspx", "GET") #event_validation and viewstate variables retrieved from GET here... body = {"__EVENTARGUMENT" : "", "__EVENTTARGET" : "" , "__EVENTVALIDATION": event_validation, "__VIEWSTATE" : viewstate, "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_GovernmentCheckBox" : "On", "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_NonGovernmentCheckBox" : "On", "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_SchoolKeyValue" : "", "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_SchoolNameTextBox" : "", "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_ScriptManager1" : "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_UpdatePanel1|cct100_ContentPlaceHolder1_SearchImageButton", "ct100_ContentPlaceHolder1_SearchImageButton.x" : "375", "ct100_ContentPlaceHolder1_SearchImageButton.y" : "11", "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_SuburbTownTextBox" : "Adelaide,SA,5000", "hiddenInputToUpdateATBuffer_CommonToolkitScripts" : 1} headers = {"Content-type": "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"} resp, content = conn.request(url,"POST", headers=headers, body=urlencode(body)) When I print content I still seem to be getting the same results as the "GET" or is there a fundamental concept I'm missing to retrieve the result values of an ASP .NET post?

  • How do I get many, but not all, property values from View to Presenter in WebFormsMvp?

    - by andrej351
Hey there, What is the best way to get a number of property values of a business object from the View to the Presenter in a WebFormsMvp page? Here is what i propose: The scenario is, I have a business object called Quote which i would like to load form the database, edit and then save. The Quote class has heaps of properties on it. The form is concerned with about 20 of these properties. I have existing methods to load/save a Quote object to/from the database. I now need to wire this all together. So, in the View_Load handler on my presenter i intend to do something like this: public void View_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { View.Model.Quote = quoteService.Read(quoteId); } And then bind all my controls as follows: <asp:TextBox ID="TotalPriceTextBox" runat="server" Text="<%# Model.Quote.TotalPrice %>" /> All good, the data is on the screen. The user then makes a bunch of changes and hits a "Submit" button. Here is where I'm unsure. I create a class called QuoteEventArgs exposing the 20 properties the form is able to edit. When the View raises the Submit button's event, I set these properties to the values of the controls in the code behind. Then raise the event for the presenter to respond to. The presenter re-loads the Quote object from the database, sets all the properties and saves it to the database. Is this the right way to do this? If not, what is? Cheers, Andrej.

  • Formatting Controls in ASP.NET

    - by Brian
    I feel as though this this is a simple question, but can't find an answer anywhere. We've got an interface we're trying to move to an ASP.NET control. It currently looks like: <link rel=""stylesheet"" type=""text/css"" href=""/Layout/CaptchaLayout.css"" /> <script type=""text/javascript"" src=""../../Scripts/vcaptcha_control.js""></script> <div id="captcha_background"> <div id="captcha_loading_area"> <img id="captcha" src="#" alt="" /> </div> <div id="vcaptcha_entry_container"> <input id="captcha_answer" type="text"/> <input id="captcha_challenge" type="hidden"/> <input id="captcha_publickey" type="hidden"/> <input id="captcha_host" type="hidden"/> </div> <div id="captcha_logo_container"></div> </div> However all the examples I see of ASP.NET controls that allow for basical functionality - i.e. public class MyControl : Panel { public MyControl() { } protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { ScriptManager.RegisterScript( ... Google script, CSS, etc. ... ); TextBox txt = new TextBox(); txt.ID = "text1"; this.Controls.Add(txt); CustomValidator vld = new CustomValidator(); vld.ControlToValidate = "text1"; vld.ID = "validator1"; this.Controls.Add(vld); } } Don't allow for the detailed layout that we need. Any suggestions on how I can combine layout and functionality and still have a single ASP control we can drop in to pages? The ultimate goal is for users of the control to just drop in: <captcha:CaptchaControl ID="CaptchaControl1" runat="server" Server="http://localhost:51947/" /> and see the working control. Sorry for the basic nature of this one, any help is greatly appreciated.

  • ASP.Net MVC 2 Forms Authentication cookieless = "UseUri" while submit authorization fails

    - by rintoantony
hi, I just started working with ASP.Net MVC 2. I created a new ASP.Net MVC application and created one vehicle controler with a database table connected with LINQ. Then created forms authentication mechanism for the application and tried to use the uri instead of cookies it was working smoothly but when i submit the form by creating a "Create" view from the controler using the utility it just dont work. The autherization got failed and asking to enter the user name and password again.I had created the authorization mechanism by adding Authorise attribute to the Controller so as to get authorized for all the actions. namespace MVCNEW.Controllers { [Authorize] public class VehicleController : Controller { But if i use the cookies instead of uri it works fine. Thanks in advance...

  • Control Attributes render Encoded on dot net 4 - how to disable the encoding ?

    - by Aristos
I have an issue in asp.net 4. When I add an attribute on controls, then the render it encoded. For example, when I type this code txtQuestion.Attributes["onfocus"] = "if(this.value == this.title) { this.value = ''; this.style.backgroundColor='#FEFDE0'; this.style.color='#000000'; }"; I get render onfocus="if(this.value == this.title){this.value = &#39;&#39;;this.style.backgroundColor=&#39;#FEFDE0&#39;; this.style.color=&#39;#000000&#39;;}" And every ' hash been change to & #39; Is there a way to disable this new future only on some controls ? or an easy way to make a custom render ? My Fail tries I have all ready try some thinks but I fail. For example this fails. txtQuestion.RenderingCompatibility = new Version("3.5"); I also locate the point that this attributes renders and is on public virtual void RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag tagKey) function, there every attribute have a flag if he wish to be encoded, but I do not know how can anyone set it or not. • Testing ASP.NET security in Firefox

    - by blahblah
I'm not sure whether this question belongs on StackOverflow or SuperUser, but here goes nothing... I'm trying to test out some basic security problems on my personal ASP.NET website to see exactly how the custom validators, etc. work when tampering with the data. I've been looking at the Firefox extension TamperData which seems to do the trick, but it doesn't feel very professional at all. The issues I'm having with TamperData is that the textbox for the POST data is way too small to hold the ASP.NET view-state, so I have to copy that data into Emacs and then back again to be productive at all. I also don't like that there doesn't seem to be an option to only tamper with data which is from/to localhost. Any ideas on better extensions for the task or better methods to test it?

  • asp.net menu control css for child items

    - by Andres
    I have an asp.net menu control which the child items(submenu) width is tied to its parent's width, I was wondering is there a work around? because some of the titles for the submenu are longer than the title of the parent so it looks all smooshed together and just horrible on the eyes. Any help is much appreciated. :) .net control: <asp:Menu ID="navigation" runat="server" Orientation="Horizontal" CssClass="topmenu" MaximumDynamicDisplayLevels="20" IncludeStyleBlock="false"> <DynamicSelectedStyle /> <DynamicMenuItemStyle /> <DynamicHoverStyle /> <DynamicMenuStyle /> <StaticMenuItemStyle /> <StaticSelectedStyle /> <StaticHoverStyle /> </asp:Menu> html rendered: <div class="topmenu" id="navigation"> <ul class="level1"> <li><a class="popout level1" href="dashboard.aspx?option=1">Seguridad</a> <ul class="level2"> <li><a class="level2" href="security/users.aspx?option=15">Usuarios</a></li> <li><a class="level2" href="security/profiles.aspx?option=16">Perfiles</a></li> <li><a class="level2" href="security/options.aspx?option=17">Opciones</a></li> <li><a class="level2" href="security/actions.aspx?option=18">Acciones</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </div> css: div.topmenu{} div.topmenu ul { list-style:none; padding:5px 0; margin:0; background: #0b2e56; } div.topmenu ul li { float:left; padding:10px; color: #fff; height:16px; z-index:9999; margin:0; } div.topmenu ul li a, div.menu ul li a:visited{ color: #fff; } div.topmenu ul li a:hover{ color:#fff; } div.topmenu ul li a:active{color:#fff; } thats what I have and the styling works i just need help in getting submenus to expand if they are bigger than main title. • How to set width of textbox to be same as MaxLength in ASP.NET

    - by John Galt
Is there a way I can limit the width of a textbox to be equal to the MaxLength property? In my case right now, the textbox control is placed in a table cell as in this snippet: <td class=TDSmallerBold style="width:90%"> <asp:textbox id="txtTitle" runat="server" CausesValidation="true" Text="Type a title here..be concise but descriptive. Include price." ToolTip="Describe the item with a short pithy title (most important keywords first). Include the price. The title you provide here will be the primary text found by search engines that index Zipeee content." MaxLength="60" Width="100%"> </asp:textbox> (I know I should not use HTML tables to control layout..another subject for sure) but is there a way to constrain the actual width to the max number of characters allowed in the typed box?

  • Calling https process from ASP Net

    - by David M
I have an ASP NET web server application that calls another process running on the same box that creates a pdf file and returns it. The second process requires a secure connection via SSL. The second process has issued my ASP NET application with a digital certificate but I still cannot authenticate, getting a 403 error. The code is a little hard to show but here's a simplified method ... X509Certificate cert = X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile("path\to\cert.cer"); string URL = "https://urltoservice?params=value"; HttpWebRequest req = HttpWebRequest.Create(URL) as HttpWebRequest; req.ClientCertificates.Add(cert); req.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; req.PreAuthenticate = true; /// error happens here WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse(); Stream input = resp.GetResponseStream(); The error text is "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden." Any pointers are welcome.
