• Redis connection issue

  We are currently experiencing a lot of Redis errors with the message Unable to connect: read error on connection, trying next server We run Redis on FreeBSD using PHP Redis and we have a hard time reproducing the error on Ubuntu so this might be a hint. There's a long-running issue on that topic on github. Basically we get a socket from the operating system with a call to connect(host, port, timeout) in phpredis, but when we do a select(db_index) afterwards, we get an exception. Could there be an issue with persistance? I assume that connect does nothing in the background and select tries to access the connection, which is actually closed. We don't run into a timeout. We tried tuning TIME_WAIT without success. Any other ideas on where the problem might come from? What is the best way to track the issue down? dtrace maybe? Update We are currently looking into our BGSAVE settings. Interestingly it takes half a second and more to create a fork for the process which regularly writes the data to disk (persistence) and maybe redis can't respond to connect() requests during that timespan.

• Windows Azure: need to know the data processing time

  I have stored some files in the form of blobs on azure and I have written an application that would access these blobs. When I host this application as a web role on azure, it works perfectly and I am happy with that. But now, I wanted to know “what is the query time taken to access each blob file?” I was searching for this through the Microsoft Azure Storage SLA and I found that for GetBlob request type, the maximum processing time should be within the product of 2 seconds multiplied by the number of MBs transferred in processing the request. I am still unclear. What is the actual processing time of my data query? How can I measure it? Can I be able to speed up the processing time? I can understand that the processing time depends on internet speed, location of the data center where my data is being stored, and location of data center where my application is being hosted. But still, will I be able to speed up my query?

• Mysql: Convert DB from local time to UTC

  I need to convert an existing (datetime fields) db from local time ut UTC. The values are stored ad datetimes on a server with time zone CET (+1) (with summertime +2). When selecting data I use UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), which magically compensates for everything, ie, time zone shift and dst (if i've read the docs right). I'm moving the db to a new server with UTC as system time. Simply subtracting -1 H won't work, as summer time is +2. Any ideas for a clever way to do this? (using sql or some script lang)

• Is strftime (hour) showing wrong time?

  I'm using this line to get the beginning time of the first day of the month. t = Time.now.to_date.beginning_of_month.beginning_of_day When i display this using t.strftime("%A %b %e @ %l:%m %p") it shows: Monday Feb 1 @ 12:02 AM The hour is always 12 (instead of 00), and more wierd the minute changes to match the month in integers. For the February date, it shows 12:02 AM I use .prior_month and .next_month on the variable to move forward or backwards in time. So when I move to June, this would display as Tuesday June 1 @ 12:06 AM But when I just show the value of "t" using a straight t.to_s, I get this time of 00:00:00, which is what I expect: Mon Feb 01 00:00:00 -0700 2010 A similar error occurs using end_of_day, but the hour is always 11 PM and the minute is the same integer value that matches the month in integers, i.e the time is 11:06 PM in June, 11:02 PM in February. Qurky? Admittedly a noob to Rails. Thanks for any comments or explanations.

  hello, i have a mathematical problem: i have a function where the only parameter is the current time. the return should be a position which is used to place an object on a certain place. int position(int time) { int x = 0; //TODO implement x depending on time return x; } so basically the function is called every frame to put the object in motion. the motion should look like this (this is the actual question): a linear motion for time A, the object moves at constant speed no motion for time B, the object is stopped repeat at 1. thanks!

  I want to get the current date (day, mon and year). I found out there are some functions in C to do that like ctime (get the string of time), localtime and gmtime.   I've a simple but confusing doubt about whether the program below runs in exponential time. The question is : given a +ve integer as input, print it out. The catch is that you deliberately do this in a loop, like this: int input,output=0; cininput; while(input--) ++output; // Takes time proportional to the value of input cout<< output; I'm claiming that this problem runs in exponential time. Because, the moment you increase the # of bits in input by 1, the program takes double the amount of time to execute. Put another way, to print out log2(input) bits, it takes O(input) time.   Hello Friends i'm facing a very weird problem in sliverlight 4 + RIA Services, or maybe it's not weird and i'm just a newbie anyway i hope someone here can help, the problem is the following i've created a function on the server side inside the domain service this function is very simple and has a line in it that adds the server current date and time to the database (it's an HR application and employees should sign in and out thrue it each from it's own pc ) Emp.TimeOut = system.DateTime.now (C# syntax) the weird part is that for some users it always adds 3 hours to the current time(exp if he signes out at 5 it shows 8) and for others it works perfectly. the server and all the stations in the company have exactly the same time settings and the same time zone, and anyway my fucntion is on the server side so it should no be realted to the users time. any ideas why this is happening ? i've bin trying to find out why for days now but with no luck

  We have seen a strange issue on some Windows XP machines involving the "Co-ordinated Universal Time" time zone. I should add that I am based in London, and have never been to South America. :-) My questions are: Where does Java get this time zone from? I thought Co-ordinated Universal Time was supposed to be the new name for GMT. Why do some Windows machines have this time zone but not others?

What should i do? Should i create a column that gets date/time of the system when insertion/update happens to the table and then compare the created date/time with the time employee's specified - If so in this case i will have to create date/time column for timeIn, outToLunch, returnFromLunch and timeOut. • R Plot Specify number of time tickmarks

  I was wondering how I could plot more tick marks when plotting time on the x-axis. Basically, a time equivalent to pretty. Pretty obviously doesn't work so well with times, as it uses factors of 1,2,5 and 10. For time one probably wants e.g. hours, half hours, ... plot(as.POSIXct(x,origin="1960-01-01"),y,type="l",xlab="Time") gives really too few and widely spaced tickmarks. zoox<-zoo(y,as.POSIXct(stats$Time,origin="1960-01-01")) plot(zoox) gives the same.   In my Java program, I need to create an instance of the current moment in time. I use Date date = new Date(); This gives me the current date and time as per the host machine's system clock. Is there any way I can get the current date and time from an online server? The world time server perhaps? I have seen this post and it describes what I want but I'm afraid I need more help than what's provided there. • Log analyzer that calculates "time on page"?

  I need to get an idea of the average "time on page" or "page view duration" for each page on my websites without client-side scripting (such as using onunload event handler). Is any of the free log analyzers capable of doing this? I looked at Webalizer, AWStats and Analog, but they don't seem to have such a function. The closest thing is "visits duration" in AWStats, but I'd like to see "page view duration" instead. I know that visitor tracking is inaccurate without client-side scripting, but I can bear with it. Google Analytics seems to provide a "time on page" metric without hooking the onunload event (but correct me if I'm wrong), so I believe this is possible.

  Hi i have installed NTP on my linux server and i am getting my clock from a 6500 core switch, everything is working fine. When i ssh to a switch i have it all sent to a log file on the linux server, this log file does not time stamp with the same time as i have on the server. the date and hwclock are the same. But my my is exatly 6 hours behind my date on the server wich is CET. Has annyone have that same problem ? bedst regards Martin

• MacBook Pro with Time Capsule can not see Samsung CLX 3175FW wireless printer on Bonjour

  I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6 and another MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5. Neither see my Samsung printer when I click on Bonjour. Needless to say neither will print. I have a Time Capsule connected wirelessly to my MacBook Pros. I have tried reinstalling drivers for the printer but nothing seems to work. I tried this approach because when Apple replaced my Time Capsule and I went to print the way I had initially been running printing requests would get hung up. Any suggestions would be helpful?

• Setting empathy's idle time

  Hello - I'm using Empathy for IM on Ubuntu 10.04. In every IM client I've used since the '90s there's always been a way to set "idle me after X time", at which point it would set you as being away. Empathy seems to do this, but I haven't found a place to specify how long to wait before marking me as away. Am I missing a plugin or something in the settings? Is this somehow tied in with Gnome and the power setting's idle time? (I'm using a laptop.) Cheers.

• High CPU from httpd process

  I am currently getting high CPU on a server that is just running a couple of sites with very low traffic. One of the sites is in still development going live soon. However, this site is very very slow...When browsing through its pages I can see that the CPU goes from 30% to 100% for httpd (see top output below). I have tuned httpd & MySQL, Apache Solr, Tomcat for high performance, and I am using APC. Not sure what to do from here or how to find the culprit as I have a bunch of messages on the httpd log and have been chasing dead ends for some time...any help is greatly appreciated. • Verifying Time Machine backups

  I'm preparing my system for a Snow Leopard upgrade, and I prepare for the worst case scenario: full reinstall and restore. I would like to verify that my Time Machine backups are valid, and will restore correctly. My Time Machine backups go to a Linux server running Netatalk, and the backups complete successfully. How do I do a test restore to an alternative location, or otherwise verify my data without overwriting any existing files? Do I need to save anything in particular externally to make sure I can access the backups if I have to reinstall from scratch?
