  • Should we have Browser Side Validation

    - by Raju
For a back office application which is going to be used in house and users trained to use it, does it make sense to have browser side validation. After training users will seldom make mistakes. These mistakes would get caught at the server side. Also bearing in mind that the bandwidth availability is a lesser concern I feel we should avoid browser side validations. This will save the effort of maintaining the same functionality at two places.

  • Simple 2 column CSS layout with nested divs

    - by Dan
Hello, I have good familiarity with CSS but for some reason I am unable to achieve the result I want in this case. Here is the link to my test site http://danberinger.com/test.html Keep in mind that I want a 2 column layout and that the background wrapper color (gray) is not showing. Instead the body background color image is being put in place of where the wrapper background should be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Authentication and authorization for RESTfull API (java jersery)

    - by abovesun
Hi, implementing service something similar with tinyurl or bit.ly, I'm would like to expose service as API, I'm using java and jersey as RESTfull service implementation. I'm looking for simplest way for authentification of users who use API, OAuth is first thing coming in mind, but the problem is I don't need this 3 iteration calls with request token query, than access token query with callback url passing. I just need to give user ability to invoke api with no additional security calls to my server.

  • How is Java Process.getOutputStream() Implemented?

    - by Amit Kumar
I know the answer depends on the particular JVM, but I would like to understand how it is usually implemented? Is it in terms of popen (posix)? In terms of efficiency do I need to keep something in mind (other than using a Buffered stream as suggested by the javadoc). I would be interested to know if there is a general reference about implementations of JVMs which answers such questions.

  • Is it worth investing time in learning low level Java?

    - by Kevin Rave
Low level Java, I mean, bits, bytes, bit masking, GC internals, JVM stuff, etc in the following contexts: - When you are building an enterprise app using frameworks like Spring, Hybernate, etc. - Interviews for a Sr Java Developer position where you are expected work on a existing Enterprise App that was built using some frameworks (Spring, EJB, Hybernate, etc) - Architects (Java) I understand knowing the very low level is "good". But how often do you think / use of these in the real-world, unless you are developing something from the ground-up keeping performance in mind?

I don't mind editting some config files to specify how images should be cropped and resized. Additionally, after uploading, the front end user should be able to drag and drop for re-ordering. • How Can I Programmatically Build a Multi-Page TIFF out of Many Single Page TIFFs, Using Python?

    - by MetaHyperBolic
I've found, via Google, numerous people asking the same question, but no solutions. The Python Image Library (PIL) has tools for stepping through an already existing multi-page TIFF, but nothing about creating them. Libraries would hopefully be available on Windows, for Python 2.6. If there's some freeware out there which will do the trick, I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I was hoping I could accomplish this in Python.

  • For what applications is Forth best suited?

    - by namin
I am intrigued by stack-based languages like Forth. Are there situations where Forth is the best tool for the job or is it just an intellectual and historical curiosity? What about derivative languages like Factor or Joy? Which of these languages would you recommend learning? And for what purpose (apart from mind expansion)?

  • Are there any good graphical git and hg/Mercurial clients on Mac OS X?

    - by DASKAjA
I'm searching for compelling git and Mercurial clients on Mac OS X. The most clients I've found so far were less compelling as I expected. Some of the clients are programmed even in ruby or tcl/tk, which IMO aren't good OSX citizens in regard of integration in the OS. I've clients in mind similar to Versions.app or Cornetstone which are subversion-only clients. Perhaps somebody got an insider tip for me.

  • When does a PHP script end?

    - by allyourcode
In my mind, a web app something that runs continuously; therefore, I'm confused by documentation pages that talk about the "end" of a PHP script (eg this one). Such references seem to refer to the end of each web request, but if the script ends there, doesn't that mean that the OS has to setup a whole new process for each request? That seems unlikely, because spinning up a whole new process is expensive, and be very inefficient for the whole site.

  • Classic asp comparison of comma separated lists

    - by Reiwoldt
Hello, I have two comma separated lists:- 36,189,47,183,65,50 65,50,189,47 The question is how to compare the two in classic ASP in order to identify and return any values that exist in list 1 but that don't exist in list 2 bearing in mind that associative arrays aren't available. E.g., in the above example I would need the return value to be 36,183 Thanks
