  • PAM authentication problem

    I am using this module to authenticate using pam: http://code.google.com/p/web2py/source/browse/gluon/contrib/pam.py I can call authenticate('username','password') and it returns True/ False. It works for any 'username' but 'root'. My guess is that there is a security restriction in PAM that does not allow to check for the root password. I need to be able to check the root password. Is there anything I can change in the pam.conf or somewhere else to remove this restriction?

But if I want to distribute an application and let the user sets it name (i.e. its URL postfix on http://server.com/appname) - how can I do? I must have some common name setting then in configuration, but how to work it for template files, etc?

    How can I list the numbers 01 to 12 (one for each of the 12 months) in such a way so that the current month always comes last where the oldest one is first. In other words, if the number is grater than the current month, it's from the previous year. e.g. 02 is Feb, 2011 (the current month right now), 03 is March, 2010 and 09 is Sep, 2010 but 01 is Jan, 2011. In this case, I'd like to have [09, 03, 01, 02].   • Is it possible to have all "git diff" commands use the "Python diff", in all git projects?

    When including the line *.py diff=python in a local .gitattributes file, git diff produces nice labels for the different diff hunks of Python files (with the name of the function where the lines changed take place, etc.). Is is possible to ask git to use this diff mode for all Python files across all git projects? I tried to set a global ~/.gitattributes, but it is not used by local git repositories. Is there a more convenient method than initializing each new git project with a ln -s ~/.gitattributes?

    Say I'm writing a Django app, and all the templates in the app require a certain variable. The "classic" way to deal with this, afaik, is to write a context processor and add it to TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS in the settings.py. My question is, is this the right way to do it, considering that apps are supposed to be "independent" from the actual project using them? In other words, when deploying that app to a new project, is there any way to avoid the project having to explicitly mess around with its settings?

Does anyone know any good online teaching material that explain (aimed at absolute beginners) concepts such as classes, inheritance, constructors, instances etc.? Preferably urls that are likely to survive for a couple of years to come... It's a DotNET SDK and we're including only VB and C# samples, so C++ or Delphi or Lisp material is not that useful.

Importing __init__ inside the module will not import the package, but instead a module named __init__, leading to two copies of things with different names... Is there a pythonic way to do this?

  • HTML5 <audio> Safari live broadcast vs not

    I'm attempting to embed an HTML5 audio element pointing to MP3 or OGG data served by a PHP file . When I view the page in Safari, the controls appear, but the UI says "Live Broadcast." When I click play, the audio starts as expected. Once it ends, however, I can't start it playing again by clicking play. Even using the JS API on the audio element and setting currentTime to 0 fails with an index error exception. I suspected the headers from the PHP script were the problem, particularly missing a content length. But that's not the case. The response headers include a proper Content- Length to indicate the audio has finite size. Furthermore, everything works as expected in Firefox 3.5+. I can click play on the audio element multiple times to hear the sound replay. If I remove the PHP script from the equation and serve up a static copy of the MP3 file, everything works fine in Safari. Does this mean Safari is treating audio src URLs with query parameters differently than URLs that don't have them? Anyone have any luck getting this to work? I would like to only run the script if it has been modified since the file was previously generated. The default behaviour of the Command builder seems to be to always run the script. How can I change this?
