  • VS2010 is removing code from designer without warning - causing issues

    - by schmoopy
I have a WinForm with a pretty complex layout (has lots of controls, panels, etc.) Whenever i open the form the file is automatically checked out from source control and it removes anything in the designer file that refereces my menustrip or statusstrip ie: the following get removed (w/o warning) Me.MyMenuStip.SuspendLayout() Me.MyStatusStrip.SuspendLayout() Me.MyMenuStrip.ResumeLayout(False) Me.MyMenuStrip.PerformLayout() Me.MyStatusStrip.ResumeLayout(False) Me.MyStatusStrip.PerformLayout() The code still builds, but there are no Menu or Status items rendered. Any ideas on what i can do? I do not want to just remove/add the menustrip for instance cause i would loose all of my menu items (and there are a lot) Thanks in advance!

  • Calling a WPF Application and modify exposed properties?

    - by Justin
I have a WPF Keyboard Application, it is developed in such a way that an application could call it and modify its properties to adapt the Keyboard to do what it needs to. Right now I have a file *.Keys.Set which tells the application (on open) to style itself according to that new style. I know this file could be passed as a command line argument into the application. That would not be a problem. My concern is, is there a way via a managed environment to change the properties of the executable as long as they are exposed properly, an example: 'Creates a new instance of the Keyboard Application Dim e_key as new WpfApplication("C:\egt\components\keyboard.exe") 'Sets the style path e_key.SetStylePath("c:\users\joe\apps\me\default.keys.set") e_key.Refresh() 'Applies the style e_key.HideMenu() 'Hides the menu e_key.ShowDeck("PIN") 'Shows the custom "deck" of keyboard keys the developer 'Created in the style application. ''work with events and response 'Clear the instance from memory e_key.close e_key.dispose e_key = nothing This would allow my application to become easily accessible to other Touch Screen Application Developers, allowing them to use my keyboard and keep the functionality they need. It seems like it might be possible because (name of executable).application shows all the exposed functions, properties, and values. I just have never done this before. Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

  • Splitcontainer, Make a fixed panel

    - by Marcx
I have a splitcontainer with horizontal orientation. I want a fixed height for panel2 only during form resize, and let splitter resize panel2 Now I'm doing it this way, but I'm not satisfy because user notice the panel resize. Private Sub Form1_ResizeBegin(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _ Handles Me.ResizeBegin spil = SplitContainer1.Height - SplitContainer1.SplitterDistance End Sub Private Sub Form1_ResizeEnd(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _ Handles Me.ResizeEnd SplitContainer1.SplitterDistance = SplitContainer1.Height - spil End Sub Any ideas?

  • Deploying a .Net App Source Control (SVN) over 32-bit AND 64-bit dev stations

    - by Mika Jacobi
Here is the situation : Our Dev Team has heterogeneous OS systems, scattered between 32-bit and 64-bit. This is not ideal, we are actually planning to homogenize our infrastructure, but in the meantime we have to deal with it. The issue is that when a 32-bit developer checks out a 64-bit solution on SVN, he has to manually change the target platforms all over again to get it compiled (not to mention other side problems) My question is : What clean (though temporary) solution could be addressed in such situation, permitting each developer to keep his default project/platform settings while checking out and in from SVN. I guess that -at least for the first time a project/solution is checked out, a dev still has to tweak the setting manually to compile it properly. After that, according to relevant SVN filters, it is possible to ignore some settings files (which ones, by the way?) I am open to all clever and detailed suggestions. Thanks.

  • Where to find a unique session ID at design time in .Net WinForms.

    - by Jules
I've created a custom clipboard because it's not possible to make my whole class map serializable - which is a requirement for the windows clipboard. However, I need to distinguish between users who are using my clipboard through a unique id. Basically, I want to be able identify a person who is sat at one PC with one or more copies of visual studio (or similar) open. How do I do that? ps: This is at design-time. pps: It's not critical that it should work between copies of visual studio. One copy would be fine, or even one design surface.

  • Override An Existing Property as a Child form of its return type

    - by Jason
I apologize if that title is confusing. This question may be a result of lack of coffee and/or sleep, but my mind is not working correctly right now. Anyways, I have an inheritance tree like such (I know the architecture isn't ideal): BaseClass GeneralForm : Inherits BaseClass SpecificForm : Inherits GeneralForm And an object like so: MyItem MySpecificItem : Inherits MyItem I have Items As List (Of MyItem) as a property in BaseClass. I would like for SpecificForm to somehow override Items to return type List (Of MySpecificItem). I feel like this is easy to do, but again, my head is spinning and I can't think straight at the moment. Thank you so much in advance.

  • How to write a contains statement to match a member of a class?

    - by afuzzyllama
If I have the following structure: Public Class UserData Public ID As String Public Name As String End Class How can I select it in a conditional like this? Dim myUsers As New List(Of UserData) If myUsers.Contains(.ID = "1") = True Then ... I know that myUsers.Contains(.ID = "1") is totally wrong, but I am curious how to do something like that? Is it possible? Is this a job for LINQ?

  • What features are heavily used in C# 2.0, but is not available in VBNET 2.0, and how to workaround?

    - by Will Marcouiller
I don't want a war between VBNET and C# developpers, neither is my goal to open a C# VS VBNET confrontation. I would like you all to list a feature that is heavily used in C#, but is not available in VBNET 2.0, and how would you work around to achieve a similar behaviour or purpose? For example: C# Accepts void (return) lambda expressions. Here's an example with FNH mapping: Component(x => x.Address, m => { m.Map(x => x.Number); m.Map(x => x.Street); m.Map(x => x.PostCode); }); This is impossible to do before VBNET 4.0 (supposed to be doable in VBNET 4.0) VBNET Must write a helping method (Sub), and provide the AddressOf this method in order to workaround. Private Sub Helper(ByVal m As MType) m.Map(Function(x) x.Number) m.Map(Function(x) x.Street) m.Map(Function(x) x.PostCode) End Sub ... Component(Function(x) x.Address, AddressOf Helper) Now I know, it is not VBNET 2.0, but this is an example. VBNET 3.0 and 3.5 can used too. Please just mention what version of VBNET this refers to.

  • Building A True Error Handler

    - by Kevin Pirnie
I am trying to build an error handler for my desktop application. The code Is in the class ZipCM.ErrorManager listed below. What I am finding is that the outputted file is not giving me the correct info for the StackTrace. Here is how I am trying to use it: Try '... Some stuff here! Catch ex As Exception Dim objErr As New ZipCM.ErrorManager objErr.Except = ex objErr.Stack = New System.Diagnostics.StackTrace(True) objErr.Location = "Form: SelectSite (btn_SelectSite_Click)" objErr.ParseError() objErr = Nothing End Try Here is the class: Imports System.IO Namespace ZipCM Public Class ErrorManager Public Except As Exception Public Location As String Public Stack As System.Diagnostics.StackTrace Public Sub ParseError() Dim objFile As New StreamWriter(Common.BasePath & "error_" & FormatDateTime(DateTime.Today, DateFormat.ShortDate).ToString().Replace("\", "").Replace("/", "") & ".log", True) With objFile .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("An Error Occured At: " & DateTime. Now) .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("LOCATION:") .WriteLine(Location) .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("FILENAME:") .WriteLine(Stack.GetFrame(0).GetFileName()) .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("LINE NUMBER:") .WriteLine(Stack.GetFrame(0).GetFileLineNumber()) .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("SOURCE:") .WriteLine(Except.Source) .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("MESSAGE:") .WriteLine(Except.Message) .WriteLine("-------------------------------------------------") .WriteLine("DATA:") .WriteLine(Except.Data.ToString()) End With objFile.Close() objFile = Nothing End Sub End Class End Namespace What is happenning is the .GetFileLineNumber() is getting the line number from 'objErr.Stack = New System.Diagnostics.StackTrace(True)' inside my Try..Catch block. In fact, it's the exact line number that is on. Any thoughts of what is going on here, and how I can catch the real line number the error is occuring on?

  • Read assembly Guid

    - by ggonsalv
Is it possible to read the GUID from the Assembly without actually loading it in the current App Domain. Normally Assembly.Load loads the DLL into the app domain. I just want to read the value. The description of the GUID is 'The following GUID is for the ID of the typelib ' if this project is exposed to COM <Assembly: Guid("DEDDE61CD-928E-4ACD-8C25-3B8577284819")>

  • Accented character replacement for search then reinserted afterwards

    - by user314573
Basically my issue is that users would like to search for a french word that has accented characters but without typing in the accented characters and then have the actual accented word appeared highlighted if found... So for example they would type in "declare" but in the result sets it would look like "déclare" and if found "déclare" would be highlighted. My first thought was to just simply replace the characters with a regex but then I remembered that I would need to re-insert the replaced characters after the search... I was thinking of then using some sort of character map that would track position and the character so that when the search was finshed I could put the result set back to the way it was. This seems a little brute force to me and I was wondering if anyone had a better alternative? I'm using Visual Studio 2005 with this app. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

  • Export GridView to Excel (not working)

    - by Chiramisu
I've spent the last two days trying to get some bloody data to export to Excel. After much research I determined that the best and most common way is using HttpResponse headers as shown in my code below. After stepping through countless times in debug mode, I have confirmed that the data is in fact there and both filtered and sorted the way I want it. However, it does not download as an Excel file, or do anything at all for that matter. I suspect this may have something to do with my UpdatePanel or perhaps the ImageButton not posting back properly, but I'm not sure. What am I doing wrong? Please help me to debug this issue. I will be eternally grateful. Thank you. :) Markup <asp:UpdatePanel ID="statusUpdatePanel" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnExportXLS" EventName="Click" /> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" PageSize="10" AllowSorting="True" DataSourceID="GridView1SDS" DataKeyNames="ID"> </asp:GridView> <span><asp:ImageButton ID="btnExportXLS" runat="server" /></span> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> Codebehind Protected Sub ExportToExcel() Handles btnExportXLS.Click Dim dt As New DataTable() Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter(SelectCommand, ConnectionString) da.Fill(dt) Dim gv As New GridView() gv.DataSource = dt gv.DataBind() Dim frm As HtmlForm = New HtmlForm() frm.Controls.Add(gv) Dim sw As New IO.StringWriter() Dim hw As New System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter(sw) Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel" Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=Report.xls") Response.Charset = String.Empty gv.RenderControl(hw) Response.Write(sw.ToString()) Response.End() End Sub

  • VS 2010 Entity Repository Error Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped.

    - by Steve
In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Error debugging - Conversion from String to Double

    - by Jamie Taylor
I'm doing some error debugging trying to get the errors on our website down to a minimum and there seems to be an error that is popping up quite a lot Conversion from string "" to type 'Double' is not valid. I'm unable to replicate this problem but I can see that it is happening. I've been looking through the code in one of the pages and strolled across this Dim varWeek As String If varWeek < 10 Then 'Do something' End If Could this be causing the problem as it is trying to see if a String is less than 10 which is an Integer? As I said before as I am unable to see this error in the first place so changing this to an Integer doesn't change anything on my system. Thanks.

  • SSIS: Update a RecordSet passed into a VB.NET ScriptTask

    - by Zambouras
What I am trying to accomplish is using this script task to continually insert into a generated RecordSet I know how to access it in the script however I do not know how to update it after my changes to the DataTable have been made. Code is Below: Dim EmailsToSend As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter Dim EmailsToSendDt As New DataTable("EmailsToSend") Dim CurrentEmailsToSend As New DataTable Dim EmailsToSendRow As DataRow EmailsToSendDt.Columns.Add("SiteMgrUserId", System.Type.GetType("System.Integer")) EmailsToSendDt.Columns.Add("EmailAddress", System.Type.GetType("System.String")) EmailsToSendDt.Columns.Add("EmailMessage", System.Type.GetType("System.String")) EmailsToSendRow = EmailsToSendDt.NewRow() EmailsToSendRow.Item("SiteMgrUserId") = siteMgrUserId EmailsToSendRow.Item("EmailAddress") = siteMgrEmail EmailsToSendRow.Item("EmailMessage") = EmailMessage.ToString EmailsToSend.Fill(CurrentEmailsToSend, Dts.Variables("EmailsToSend").Value) EmailsToSendDt.Merge(CurrentEmailsToSend, True) Basically my goal is to create a single row in a new data table. Get the current record set, merge the results so I have my result DataTable. Now I just need to update the ReadWriteVariable for my script. Do not know if I have to do anything special or if I can just assign it directly to the DataTable I.E. Dts.Variables("EmailsToSend").Value = EmailsToSendDt Thanks for the help in advanced.
