The problem here is lblEmpl.Visible=true never gets hit because this code doesnt cause a postback to the server. Even if I put the line of code lblEmpl.Visible=true at the top of the click event the line executes fine, but the page is never updated. How can I fix this?

  • Compressing a database to a single file?

    Hi all. In my contact manager program I have been storing information by reading and writing comma delimited files for each individual contact, and storing notes in a file for each note, and I'm wondering how I could go about shrinking them all into one file effectively. I have attempted using data entry tools in the visual studio toolbox and template class, though I have never quite figured out how to use them. What would be especially convenient is if I could store data as data type IOwner (a class I created) as opposed to strings. I'd also need to figure out how to tell the program what to do when a file is opened (I've noticed in the properties how to associate a file type with the program though am not sure how to tell it what to do when it's opened). Edit: How about rephrasing the question: I have a class IContact with various properties some of them being lists of other class objects. I have a public list of IContact. Can I write Contacts as List(Of IContact) to a file as opposed to a bunch of strings? Second part of the question: I have associated .cms files with my program. But if a user opens the file, what code should the program run through in an attempt to deal with the file? This file is going to contain data that the program needs to read, how do I tell it to read a file when the program is opened vicariously because the file was opened? Does this make the question clearer?

    I have a DataGridView which is filling from Table in SQL Server Database. One of it's columns is "price". Type of column in DGV is automatically sets as Decimal. In some cases I need to write in cells of this column text like "none", instead of price. How can I do it? DGV.Item("price", 0).Value = "none" doesn't work, because of decimal type of a cell.

    In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one.     Hi, I'd like to make a textbox that accepts only numbers, but not integer, but rather double. I've read here about e.Handled = Not Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) and it works, but again, it can be used only for integer, since it declines decimal point. Another thing I've read here is If Not Double.TryParse(TextBox2.Text, value) Then .... and it would work fine, except that it allows only decimal comma instead of point. I don't know whether it's because of my location settings (Hungary, we use commas instead of points), but I don't have any other idea how to solve my problem, and the SQL server I send my data uses decimal point.   • Typed DataSet connection - required to have one in the .xsd file?

    In the .xsd file for a typed DataSet in .NET, there's a <Connections> section that contains a list of any data connections I've used to set up the DataTables and TableAdapters. There are times when I'd prefer not to have those there. For instance, sometimes I prefer to pass in a connection string to a custom constructor and use that rather than look for one in settings, .config, etc. But it seems like if I remove the connection strings from that section (leaving it empty), or remove the section entirely, the DataSet code-generation tool freaks out. Whereas if I don't remove them, the DataSet gripes when I put it in a different project because it can't find the settings for those connection strings. Is there any way I can tell a typed DataSet not to worry about any connections? (Obviously I'll have to give it a connection if I change any TableAdapter SQL or stored procs, but that should be my problem.)

    When working with Crystal Report Field Objects and attempting to set "EnableSuppress" to False or alter the position or width of a field object is generating an "Invalid Object Format Name" error. The debugger shows all my code running without error until attempting to actually load the report. At that point, it will run the first couple without problem, then it fails when messing with a field object, and none of the rest will run. The code is shown below. Everything that generates an error is a FieldObject, but not all fieldObjects generate errors. In the code below, everything in Section2 is a TextObject and everything in Section3 is a FieldObject. If condition = True Then 'Lines marked as runs ok, only run when a line that generates an error is not present before it.   • Stored Connection Strings per user

    In the past I've used a Singleton Pattern to load the connection string when the application starts via the global.asa file. I have a project now where each user has a unique connection string to the database. I would like to load this connection string once. The issue is that the singleton pattern will not work for me since each user has there own connection string. Basically the connection string is created dynamically. I do not want to store it is session. If anyway has a clever way of doing this in .NET let me know ?

For my application, there is one document (Microsoft word), and this document is reviewed by several people in the "Track changes" mode, so the input to my application is the original document and the reviewed documents with changes (like insert/delete/comments). By this link , I know how to extract all the changes from the reviewed documents. what i want is to combine all the changes from all the reviewed documents into ONE document, and make all the changes "accepted", so the output of my application is one modified Microsoft document with all the changes (delete/insert/comment) accepted. My problem is that I don't know how to combine the changes from several documents into one single document. Anyone has an idea how to do this? Thank you very much in advance.

    I'm building three web applications in .NET that will all share a users database and login information. Lets pretend that application 1 is the "parent" application and applications "A" and "B" are the "child" applications. All users have to be logged into application 1 to have access to applications A and B. Authorization, Authentication, and MachineKey sections of all web configs are present and work correctly. I have the correct web.config settings in all applications to achieve Single Sign On except one problem remains: what do I put in the "loginUrl" attribute of the forms tag in Applications A and B. Assume that the url for the login to application 1 is "www.johnsapp.com/login.aspx" How can I get applications A and B to send the user back to application 1 for authentication using only settings in web.config?
