    Is it possible to create an object container where changes can be tracked Said object is a complex nested object of data. (compliant with JSON). The wrapper allows you to get the object, and save changes, without specifically stating what the changes are Does there exist a design pattern for this kind of encapsulation Deep cloning is not an option since I'm trying to write a wrapper like this to avoid doing just that. The solution of serialization should only be considered if there are no other solutions. An example of use would be var foo = state.get(); // change state state.update(); // or state.save(); client.tell(state.recentChange()); A jsfiddle snippet might help : http://jsfiddle.net/Raynos/kzKEp/ It seems like implementing an internal hash to keep track of changes is the best option. [Edit] To clarify this is actaully done on node.js on the server. The only thing that changes is that the solution can be specific to the V8 implementation.

  • How to Change Type of a VARIANT

    Hi, I'm having a VARIANT with its type set to VT_R8. Subsequently I need to change its type to VT_BSTR. I would like know whether there is a way of resetting a VARIANT status. Thus, I noticed that every time I set value to the VARIANT (in my case, its double) , VARIANT itself set its bstrVal member to a bad pointer, even though I set bstrVal member to NULL at the initialization of VARIANT. Why such thing is happening ? Is it safe to use a VARIANT as structure where both dbVal and bstrVal member are set ? Please clarify, thank you.

    I have a calls called DtaDate that stores an integer "key", a string name, a string for the date, and a Date object that is created from that string. I have some code that needs to accept a date-like object. I'd like the user to be able to pass in anything date like - a Date object which I'll extract the information from, another DtaDate, a string with the date in it, or even the key, which I'll use to look up the DtaDate from a collection. So I have this: Friend Sub New(NameIn As String, DateFormulaIn As String, Optional FromDateIn As Object = Nothing) [stuff that works] [check that we got a FromDateIn...] If TypeOf FromDateIn Is DtaDate Then fdk = FromDateIn.Key Ans.FromDate = fdk VB tells me that "Option Strict On disallows late binding". The other cases, where a string or integer is the TypeOf, I use CInt or CStr. But this is the first time I've actually run into a case where the casting is a non-base type. What's the trick?

  • Single C++/CLI method to wrap many type specific C functions

    I am wrapping a C library using C++/CLI so that the C library can be used easily from C# in a C#'ish way. Some of the functions in this library are for putting a value into a container. There are no generics in C so there exists a function per type CLIB_SetBool(BOOL value), CLIB_SetInt(int value), CLIB_SetString(char* string) and so on. To make it easier to use from C#, I have created a single Set function which takes a System::Object. I have two related questions: With my method how would you use a switch statement on the type of System::Object to call the correct CLIB_Setxxxx function. [typeid is only for unmanaged code and I can't seem to use GetType.] Is there a better way to wrap these functions like using a Generic? [I started using template specialisation but then realised that C# doesn't see templates.] Thanks.

  • Should I convert data arrays to objects in PHP in a CouchDB/Ajax app?

    I find myself converting between array and object all the time in PHP application that uses couchDB and Ajax. Of course I am also converting objects to JSON and back (for sometimes couchdb but mostly Ajax), but this is not so much disturbing my workflow. At the present I have php objects that are returned by the CouchDB modules I use and on the other hand I have the old habbit to return arrays like array("error"="not found","data"=$dataObj) from my functions. This leads to a mixed occurence of real php objects and nested arrays and I cast with (object) or (array) if necessary. The worst thing is that I know more or less by heart what a function returns, but not what type (array or object), so I often run into type errors. My plan is now to always cast arrays to objects before returning from a function. Of course this implies a lot of refactoring. Is this the right way to go? What about the conversion overhead? Other ideas or tips?

Looping is good idea or not ? Does there is any inbuilt function for doing the same.

    I wanted to use something like this: if(x==5) { var mydb= ........ ; } else { var mydb = ........ ; } but it didn't work because I can't declare a variable inside if statement. So I tried to do this: var mydb; if (x==5) { mydb= ............. ; } else { mydb=.............; } but id didn't work either because I had to initialize the variable (mydb). So the question is: I don't necessarily know the type of the variable, can I declare it anyway and then change the type inside the if statement?

  • PHP find if file data is an image

    Imagine I have some file data in a variable $data. I need to determine whether it is an image or not. No need for details such as corrupt images etc. Firs thought would be getting the file mime type by looking at the magic number and then see whether "image" is in the mime type. No such luck, even if I have a "file extension to mime type" script, I don't have a reliable way to get mime from magic number. My next option was to have a reasonable list of image file magic numbers and consult them. However, it relatively difficult to find such magic numbers (gif for instance has different magic numbers, some of which could pretty rare - if memory serves me right). A better idea would be some linux program which can do this kind of thing. Any ideas? I'm running RHEL and PHP 5.3. I've got root access - ie able to install stuff if needed. - Chris.

    I have two List of Objects (one is master list and other is error list) and if there is a match of one value when compared two lists then merge all other error list values into mast list value (only one object). Other than iterating is there any other way to compare a value and then merge that object. Object is a Value object with some setters and getters. Appreciate your help. List<OrderVO> masterList; List<OrderVO> errorList; If errorList.OrderVO.getOrderID = masterList.OrderVO.getOrderID then masterList.OrderVO.merge(errorList.OrderVO) or copy all values of masterList.OrderVO.copy(errorList.OrderVO).   • How to filter/sort/rank object model nodes?

    I have some kind of object model and I need to filter and sort it's nodes for some kind of property. What kinds of automated systems exist to generate and select properties of the object model that correlate to what I want? (I'm intentionally being abstract and non-specific) I'm thinking of a system that works kind of like spam filters or supervised classification systems in that given an example data set it identifies rules that find nodes of interest. However I'm looking for a more general system in that it shouldn't require any design time information about the object model. It should work equality well as a spam filter on e-mail, a bug finder on a code base, an interest filter in a newsgroup or bot accounts finder on a social networking site. As long as it can explore the object model via reflection and be given a set of "interesting" nodes, it should be able to find rules that will find more nodes like them.

  • Core Data: Detecting the type and casting it

    I have set up a Core Data model that includes an entity, Item with a 1-M relationship with the abstract entity Place, so that an item has many places. There are several entities with the parent set to Place. I want to set up several UI elements depending on the descendent place types. I have a loop that looks something like this: for (Place *place in item.places) { } ... but I'm not sure how to detect what type the place is, and how to cast it to the proper type so that I can access its properties.     Hi, If I define these variables: double x0, xn, h; int n; and I have this mathematical expression: h = (xn - x0)/n; Is it necessary that I cast n into double prior doing the division for maximum accuracy like in h = (xn - x0)/ (double) n; I wrote a program to check the above but both expressions give the same answers. I understand that C will promote the integer to double type as variables xn and x0 are of type double but strangely enough in a book, the second expression with casting was emphasized.     Say I have an ArrayList that I have cast to an ArrayList of objects. I know that all the objects that were in the ArrayList I cast were of the same type, but not what the type was. Now, if the ArrayList is not empty, I could take one of the objects in it and use the instanceof operator to learn what the actual type is. But what of the case where the ArrayList is empty? How do I determine what type Object actually is then? Is it possible?

    I am trying to convert a date to a DateTime Object. My code works fine on my localhost (php version 5.3) but returns a blank DateTime object on my remote server (php version 5.2.14).   • How to iterate over numerically named object properties

    So I have a horribly designed class that I can't change that has properties like this: object.Color1 object.Color2 object.Color3 etc... How can I iterate through those with a for loop. In other words, something like this: for (int i = 0; i <= 40; i++) { string PropertyName = "Color" + i; if (object.PropertyName != "") { // do something } } Obviously this code wouldn't work but it gives you an idea of what I'm after. I have to do some processing on each property and I don't want to repeat my code 40 times. :) A loop would be perfect, I'm just not sure how to create the name of the property on the fly.

    I have several templated objects that all implement the same interface: I.E. MyObject<datatype1> obj1; MyObject<datatype2> obj2; MyObject<datatype3> obj3; I want to store these objects in a List... I think I would do that like this: private List<MyObject<object>> _myList; I then want to create a function that takes 1 parameter, being a datatype, to see if an object using that datatype exists in my list.... sorta clueless how to go about this. In Pseudo code it would be: public bool Exist(DataType T) { return (does _myList contain a MyObject<T>?); }
