Problem with creation of scheduled task from IIS6 on SR2003

Hi, I have also posted this question on stackoverflow, but will also try here, since it might be more system-related I am writing a webapplication using .NET. The webapp creates scheduled tasks using the System.Diagnostics.Process class, calling SCHTASKS.EXE with parameters. I have changed the identity on the app pool, to a specific domain user. The domain-user is local administrator on all the four webservers. From webserver01 I am creating tasks on webserver01 to webserver04. It works perfect for 3-5 days, but then it breaks. It gives me the following errormessage in a messagebox: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application." If I have the system in the broken state, and I change the identity of the app pool to Domain administrator, it works. As I change it back to my domain-user, it breaks again. If I reboot the server, it works again for the same amount of days, but will break again. It seems like a permission-related problem. I just don't understand why it works sometimes, and sometimes doesn't. I hope someone outthere has seen this problem! Looking forward to hear from you! Kind regards, Morten, Denmark

ImportError: No module named _socket? WSGI Deployment into Apache

I am using WSGI 3.3 for python 2.7.3 (32bit) for Apache 2.2. I got the binary WSGI from http://code.google.com/p/modwsgi/downloads/detail?name=mod_wsgi-win32-ap22py27-3.3.so. I have been trying to deploy an application but keep on receiving the ImportError: no module named _socket. I have included my wsgi and error logs. Transferring 'Live' Documents to Another Computer

I was wondering if there was any OS/Application that has some support for transferring a document to another computer without having to save, transfer and then reopen. Basically, is there a way so that if I'm working on my desktop, I can click a button (or something similar) and then have the exact state of that computer/application transferred to another? For example, if I'm writing a document, is there a way to get it to computer B without saving it, putting the file on my flash drive, and having to reopen it? Edit: I just realized that this is possible through the wonderful phenomena known as cloud computing, but this is not the type of solution I'm looking for. Edit 2: I wanted to clarify: By 'save', I meant that I didn't want to have to save it to a special location, be that a (flash) drive or uploading to the web. Saving to the local hard drive is fine (and probably necessary, since technologies such as Bluetooth require the file to be saved somewhere). This is a bit inspired by a scene in Avatar, so I highly doubt that this actually exists... but if it does, I don't want to miss out.

How to diagnose website performance/app pool recycling with Windows 2008/IIS7

Ok, so there are various symptoms here (clients and and our own employees complaining of intermittent slowdowns, getting 'kicked out' to login page or just having a save request not properly save the submitted data). The environment: Windows Server 2008 (Datacenter), Service Pack 2, 64-bit, 2x2.8 GHz processors, 7.5 GB RAM MS SQL Server 2008 (running on the same machine) IIS 7 There are ~10 websites running on the server, each in their own application pool - most of these pools are running in Integrated mode, 2 are in Classic, all are on .NET 2.0 and all run as ApplicationPoolIdentity. I'm trying to analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot and am struggling with where to get more info about what could be happening. Here are some steps i have already taken: Set each application pool to recycle once per day, and removed any other automatic recycling Set a Virtual Memory Limit for each to 1024000KB (1GB) Enabled ALL 'Generate Recycle Event Log Entry' entries (Config Changes, Isapi Reported Unhealthy, Manual Recycle, Private Memory Limit Exceeded, Regular Time Interval, Request Limit Exceeded, Specific Time, Virtual Memory Limit Exceeded) I have seen the app pool processes recycle (in Task Manager) - a new one will start up, and then the first one dies off - and this has happened without the memory or time going over the settings. This is a fairly new server, and most of these came from Windows Server 2003/IIS6. Any 'next steps' for setting up information gathering, logging, diagnosing, etc. would be much appreciated! j

upload process times out for different time zones

I have an inhouse(NY) app that cients can upload files to. Usually uploads go pretty quickly for most clients but this particularly cient in the UK always have problems with uploads. not sure if they get any errors but since we log all exceptions, we see this...Error: System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. ---> System.Net.WebException: The operation has timed out at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebClientProtocol.GetWebResponse(WebRequest request) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.HttpWebClientProtocol.GetWebResponse(WebRequest request) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) at ... This shouldn't even be an issue because since we noticed they have had this issue before so we bumped up these to maxRequestLength="2097151" executionTimeout="14400". Further investigating this error, i read that it could be a thread timeout since the default is 20minute. A worker process with process id of serving application pool was shutdown due to inactivity. Application Pool timeout configuration was set to 20 minutes. A new worker process will be started when needed. Problem is I am not entirely sure if that really is the case as all other cients mostly North American, have no issues but then their uploads don't seem to go beyond 80mb and the UK client have done a 700mb upload before that i know of. We have tested 750mb before and the whole process took about 15min for upload and processing. Any help on what the real issue here might be? Thanks.

Creating a Custom EventAggregator Class

One thing I noticed about Microsoft's Composite Application Guidance is that the EventAggregator class is a little inflexible. I say that because getting a particular event from the EventAggregator involves identifying the event by its type like so: _eventAggregator.GetEvent<MyEventType>(); But what if you want different events of the same type? For example, if a developer wants to add a new event to his application of type CompositePresentationEvent<int>, he would have to create a new class that derives from CompositePresentationEvent<int> in a shared library somewhere just to keep it separate from any other events of the same type. In a large application, that's a lot of little two-line classes like the following: public class StuffHappenedEvent : CompositePresentationEvent<int> {} public class OtherStuffHappenedEvent : CompositePresentationEvent<int> {} I don't really like that approach. It almost feels dirty to me, partially because I don't want a million two-line event classes sitting around in my infrastructure dll. What if I designed my own simple event aggregator that identified events by an event ID rather than the event type? For example, I could have an enum such as the following: public enum EventId { StuffHappened, OtherStuffHappened, YetMoreStuffHappened } And my new event aggregator class could use the EventId enum (or a more general object) as a key to identify events in the following way: _eventAggregator.GetEvent<CompositePresentationEvent<int>>(EventId.StuffHappened); _eventAggregator.GetEvent<CompositePresentationEvent<int>>(EventId.OtherStuffHappened); Is this good design for the long run? One thing I noticed is that this reduces type safety. In a large application, is this really as important of a concern as I think it is? Do you think there could be a better alternative design?

Random Windows application crashes on Windows Server Hyper-V Core 2012

We're having some issues with our Hyper-V Core 2012 R2 installation on a HP DL360G8. We have an identical server with Hyper-V Core 2012 (not R2) that does not have these issues. When logging off from the physical server/via remote desktop, we sometimes get this error: Configure-SMRemoting.exe - Application Error : The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application. We've also once or twice seen a "memory could not be read" error mentioning LoginUI.exe (another Windows app in System32) but have been unable to get an exact description. It's rather worrying to get such errors on a fresh install of Hyper-V 2012 R2. Is this even anything to worry about? Things we've done: Memtest86+, no memory errors Checksummed the file that is crashing with the one in the verified correct ISO, files match Server firmware upgrade to latest firmware of all present hardware, no visible changes Remade the RAID5 array , no change Reinstalled a few times, no change Reinstall without applying Windows updates after, no change

Excel-based Performance Reviews transformed into Web Application for Performance Management

HR TMS provides enterprise talent management solutions for healthcare, retail and corporate customers, focusing on performance management, compensation management and succession planning. As the competency of nurses and other healthcare workers is critical, the government, via the Joint Commission (JCAHO), tightly monitors their performances. On a regular basis, accredited healthcare organizations are required to review employee performance using a complex set of position dependent job descriptions and competencies. Middlesex Hospital managed their performance reviews for 2500 employees manually with Excel spreadsheets. This was a labor intensive process that proved to be error prone and difficult to manage. Reviews were not always where they belonged and the job descriptions and competencies for healthcare workers were difficult to keep accurate and up to date. As a result, when the Joint Commission visited and requested to see specific review documentation, there was intense stress. Middlesex Hospital needed to automate their review process, pull in the position information from those spreadsheets and be able to deliver reviews online. Users needed to have online access to those reviews from a standard browser. Although the manual system had its issues, it did have the advantage of being very comprehensive and familiar to users. The decision was made to provide a web-based solution that leveraged the look and feel of those spreadsheets in order to insure user acceptance of the system and minimize the training needed. error while running ruby application at system startup in ubuntu

I am on Ubuntu 12.04 machine. Have a script file which runs when entered manually in terminal gnome-terminal -e /home/precise/Desktop/cartodb/script.sh The content of script file is cd /home/ubuntupc/Desktop/cartodb20/ sh /home/ubuntupc/.rvm/scripts/rvm bundle exec foreman start -p 3000 So what i tried to do is to run this script at every system start up. So on Startup Applications command: gnome-terminal -e /home/precise/Desktop/cartodb/script.sh On terminal Edit - Profile Preferences - Title and Command Checked the "Run command as a login shell" But this seems to be not working. as title said differences between those 2. I read all the definition and some articles, but I need information about some other aspects. Here is the thing. We want to build a web site that will contain: site, database, uploads, numerous background services that would have to collect information from uploads and from some other sites, parse them etc...I doubt that there are portlets that fits our specific need so we will have to make them our self. So, questions: 1. Deployment ( and difference in cost if possible), is deploying portals much more easier then web app ( java or .net) 2. Server load. Does portal consume much of server power ( and can you strip portal of thing that you do not use) 3. Implementation and developing of portlets. Can u make all the things that you could have done in java or .net? 4. General thoughts of when to use portals and when classic web app. Tnx all in advence...

Apps crashing with EXC_BAD_ACCESS when changing to a custom keyboard layout

I have a custom layout installed (svdvorak_mac6.keylayout). After a reboot another keyboard layout was selected, so I selected my usual one instead. This lead to a lot of apps suddenly starting to crash (Chrome, Skype, Adium etc). I can change to any other built in layout for OS X, but as soon as I choose one custom installed one (either form ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts/ or from /Library/Keyboard Layouts/) the apps crash. The only thing I can remember that I did before the reboot was to install Google's video chat plugin for the browser. I just passed my 70-573 exam today and would like to Share my experience on learning SharePoint 2010 as a beginner. 1. Book Microsoft SharePoint 2010: Building Solutions for SharePoint 2010 by Sahil Malik http://apress.com/book/view/1430228652 Sahil is an expert and MVP in SharePoint 2010.He certainly know his field and the book is well written. More importantly Sahil has got very good sense of humor in delivering the knowledge. 2.A development machine It is of great importance to have a dev machine , you cannot learn a new technology by just reading a book nor by watching some training videos. You need get your hands dirty with SharePoint a lot. 3.Training videos Since I have one year subscription with learndev , I use them as my learning resources. It is quite cheap , only cost US $99 for a year subscription and you will get not only the SharePoint training but the whole training library .The videos are from Appdev . Appdev training is of high quality. http://www.appdev.com/ http://www.learndevnow.com/ You can also get the videos from Microsoft SharePoint site. They are pretty good too. But bear in mind , by just watching these videos you will not learn much , you need to build a SharePoint 2010 machine and play with it .Try to write the sample code yourself and not just copy and paste. 4. Write blogs about your learning. This will motive you in your long journey with SharePoint learning. 5.
