• Remote access not working without connected monitor

  I am trying to configure a Windows Server 2008 as a Home Server for my personal use (mainly for storing documents, hosting source-control, etc.). The "server" consists of an Intel Atom 2700DC board and an Intel SSD. Configuring remote access to the server, I am confronted with a very strange problem: As long as a monitor is connected to my server, remote access works without any problems. However, when no monitor is connected at boot-time, remote access simply won't work (I keep getting errors when trying to connect that the remote server was not found or that remote access is disabled). Windows definitely boots when no monitor is connected as I receive a message asking me whether to enter safe mode when booting after powering the server down by plugging the power cord. When I plug in a monitor after boot, it stays turned off and remote desktop connections still fail. Do you have any ideas about what I could try?

  Please vote to reopen. This is different from Can I use my laptop as a second monitor for my desk computer?, because that question is asking how to use the laptop screen as the secondary display, not as the only display. My PC's monitor just died and I'm not looking at buying a new monitor anytime soon. So I'm thinking of using my laptop's monitor for it. Both machines are running on Fedora linux. Edit: Both machines are connected to the same wireless network. PC needs to log in before it can connect to the network if I'm not mistaken.

  Can anybody recommend a linux compatible touchscreen monitor, the criteria are: 19inch or greater 1920x1080 or better only single touch required be able to operate in portait mode We currently have some IIyama Prolite MTS2250MS monitors but these do not natively support portait mode and we have had little success getting the touch functionality working in Linux (although they do report themselves as HID devices when plugged in). So an alternative to suggesting a monitor would be pointers to information on how we could get the IIyama monitor working in Linux.

  I've got an eeePC with a really tiny monitor, so whenever I go (home, faculty, parent's home, friend's home, ...) I attach it to any external monitor I can find. If it matters my system is like this: Archlinux Linux 2.6.36 Xorg 7.6 X server 1.9.2 Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller (fully accelerated by intel modules) When I boot up the system, it uses the integrated monitor (LVDS1) only, and I have to manually manually switch to the external monitor (VGA1) using xrandr. Is it possible to configure my Xorg (or whatever) so that it uses the VGA1 output if present?

  hi all my problem is this: i have one video card (radeon hd 4350) and 2 monitors (dell). the first monitor works using dvi-to-dvi. the second does not, using hdmi-to-dvi. the monitor does not register any input. however when i use vga-to-vga, the second monitor does work, with a typically low vga resolution. we have tested the hdmi-to-dvi cable, so why does the monitor not register any input? using windows vista. i have installed all the lastest drivers, done all the basic stuff etc. any help at all would be appreciated. thanks

• Triple monitor setup in linux

  I'm hoping there are some xorg gurus out there. I'm trying to get a three monitor setup working in linux. I have 2 lcd monitors and a tv, all different resolutions. I'm using 2 video cards; a 9800 GTX and 7900Gt. I've seen a lot of different posts about people trying to make this work, and in every case, they either gave up, or Xinerama magically solved all their problems. Basically, my main problem is that I cannot get Xinerama to work. Every time I turn it on in the options, my machine gets stuck in a neverending boot cycle. If I disable Xinerama, I just have three Xorg screens, but I can't drag windows from one to the other. I can get the 2 lcds on Twinview, and the tv on a separate Xorg screen no problem. But I don't really like this solution. I'd rather have them all on separate screens and stitch them together with Xinerama. Has anyone done this? Here's my xorg.conf for reference. p.s. This took me all of 30 seconds to set up in Windows XP! p.s.s. I've seen somewhere that maybe randr can solve my problems? But I'm not quite sure how?   About a month after installing a new graphics card, I started encountering a rather frustrating problem. Namely, if I turn my monitor off for any significant length of time, then turn it back on, it displays only a white screen. Previously, restarting could fix the problem. However, after leaving the computer off last night, the problem persists. An internet search turned up this site; however, the monitor cable is not loose. As for the insides of the monitor - Well, I could poke around, but I risk making it worse if it's not the monitor. Any such instructions should be clear, detailed and include pictures. Further updates as events warrant.

• Viewsonic Monitor Resolution - Drivers are not working

  I have Viewsonic va1716w monitor which has VGA/D-SUB video input. I bought new Motherboard Intel DH67GD which has HDMI & DVI output. I connect my motherboard to monitor using DVI to VGA connector. It's working. Yesterday I installed windows 7 OS and also installed monitor drivers(downloaded from viewsonic site - signed version) When i set display resolution to 1440 x 900. It's not setting it.it sets back to 800x600. What should i do to make resolution to 1440x900 (monitor resolution)? DVI to VGA causing this problem or i need to do any trick? • Dual Monitors don't turn off/sleep when they should

  Details: Dual 25" monitors connected to HP Envy via HDMI and display port via DVI adapter. Power scheme is set up in high performance (Dim Display: Never - Turn Off Display: 15 mins - Computer Sleep: Never) Screensaver is set up to kick in after 10 mins of idle (which happens) 5 minutes later, the screensaver stops. The "Monitor Going to Sleep" notice appears on screen and monitors go to sleep briefly. All is well thus far. Suddenly, the Windows 7 alert sound when a device is unplugged is heard. Monitors then turn back on. Screens are black. Only the mouse cursor is displayed. Backlighting is back on. This only started happening after I obtained and connected the second 25" monitor a few days ago. However, I had a 24" in its place before, and this wasn't happening. Why is this happening and how do I correct this behavior? Thanks in advance.

• AA doesn't work due to monitor?

  I have a monitor (with TV tuner - Philips 221T1SB), native resolution of 1920x1080, but there is an Overscan in Catalyst. It says from left to right '10%' and '0%', if i set it (all the way to the left) on 10%, i get screen with black borders (you know what i mean), but if i set it to 0%, i get a filled monitor. It does make sense, but why the hell is there such an option? I never had any AA issues before, but now, with this monitor, here they go. I can't find any solution, i have only one lead = overscan, or pretty much anything with the CCC settings. Yes, i almost forgot. After a bit of trying to configure the monitor with remote, i found there is a PC channel option, few other channels, and then a HDMI option. I have monitor through HDMI, but why i get black screen when i select the PC channel? That might be another problem. I tried almost everything. Please guys, give me a hand. I don't want jaggies! • Viewsonic monitor keeps showing its on-screen menu incessantly

  Since yesterday my Viewsonic 22" monitor (VX2255wmb) keeps showing its on-screen menu incessantly, without my touching any of its buttons. The menu comes on in the centre of the screen, stays on for 8-10 seconds, disappears for a second or two, then repeats the cycle. This happens whenever there's a signal being sent to the monitor. I can't actually navigate the menu when it appears on-screen. Pressing the power button, or the Up and Down buttons on its right edge dismiss the menu, only for it to reappear again. These symptoms have appeared before, but earlier they'd stop after 5-10 mins. The power button on the monitor has always been iffy, but now it doesn't seem to be working at all--have to switch off power supply from mains when I leave my desk. Using DVI input on this monitor as my HP desktop has DVI output.

• After turning off my monitor, the computer won't display again

  If I physically turn off the monitor (DVI connection) and then turn it back on, the connection does not wake back up. The monitor enters "Power Saving" mode. I've tried unplugging the DVI cable and plugging back in, I've tried updating the video card drivers (it's Windows Vista; Windows 7 failed to install on this machine). I can use VNC to connect to the machine again, and after a reboot, the monitor works again. Does anyone have any idea?

  I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5, and am hosting multiple websites on the same webserver. Is it possible to use Performance Monitor to know on average which website is using the most resources? I've added a user-defined Data Collector Set in Performance Monitor collecting data for 1 day. However, I could not find any details which hint which website is using the most resources. Which counters are crucial to monitor websites? The generated report tells me that the top process is w3wp##1 - how can I know which website it corresponds to? I've also tried to add counters for ASP.Net Applications for all object instances, however % Managed Processor Time (estimated) is 0 at all times.

• How to get monitor resolution of 1680x1050 using ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO in a dual monitor setup

  I have Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics card in my Windows Server 2008 x64 machine. It has two outputs a VGA and a DVI. I have connected the DVI to my Dell 24" monitor with 1900x1200 resolution and it works 100%. The VGA I have connected to my second monitor a Samsung 22" with native resolution of 1680x1050. But the ATI driver and Catalyst control centre doesn't show this resolution as an option. If I choose a lower resolution like 1280x1024 it looks really bad and fuzzy. I searched in google and downloaded the powerstrip tool that allowed me to create a custom resolution of 1680x1050 and then this option shows up in Catalyst control centre and my 2nd monitor works fine now. But I don't want to pay for an application to choose a display resolution. Why doesn't ATI show me that option by default even though it has no problem in actually supporting the display at resolution. Is there a way to get 1680x1050 resolution using ATI drivers only ?

• Windows 7 changes desktop icon location when switching from External Monitor to Internal Monitor (laptop)

  I have a Windows 7 Laptop, and lately its been acting really weird with my 1080p Monitor. When I get home from school, Ill plug my screen in, and close my laptop lid (which makes the laptop treat the Monitor as the primary and only screen). However it will move my desktop icons! This also happens when I remove / unplug the screen, as shown in the pictures. I hate this, as Im the kinda person who's use to every icon being in a set spot, and so am use to their location. Its a massive hassle to try and move the icons back to their original spot. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? • Second monitor sometimes will not wake up

  My workstation has two monitors and Windows 7 (64bit). Sometimes when I lock my computer and later return and unlock it, the second monitor won't wake up. I have to turn that monitor off and on to get the picture back. They are identical monitors. The "#2" monitor is set as the main display, if that matters. I glanced at the power saving settings but didn't see anything noteworthy, and I'm not sure what I would be looking for (or if that is the right place to look) in the first place. It's not the end of the world but it is annoying. Help?

• Teamviewer: cannot control monitor 1, but can control monitor 2

  I'm using the web client of Teamviewer from my work computer trying to control my home computer. I have 2 monitors on the remote desktop, but for some reason only have control on the second monitor. When I switch to the main monitor (monitor 1), I cannot do anything and cannot even move the cursor. But I have no issues when I switch over to the second monitor (monitor 2). I used to have no issues with either, but in the past couple of months this has been causing me issues. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!! Also... Here is the log from the Teamviewer session. • Can I have a computer with 2 physical HDs, & Dual boot option, one for Windows & one for Ubuntu

  When my HD failed in my old computer with a dual core, I immediately went out and bought a new 6 core PC because I needed it for business and had to have an immediate solution. The old computer was otherwise a good computer. I don't want to spend a $100+ for a new operating system for the old computer because the Windows 7 Professional opperating system for the new computer will only allow one install. So, I decided to look and see if there were any free operating systems and found Ubuntu. I downloaded it and burned a live CD and would like to try it on the old computer. I found a 200 GB HD I can buy for $30 and the seller will format it any way I want. There are also other HDs available at a similar price. What I was thinking I would like to do is buy 2 HDs. Then I can have one formatted for Ubuntu 12.04 and install Windows XP Pro SP1 on the other HD for which I have the original installation CD. Then I would like to have a dual boot option so that when I power up the computer, I can choose whether to use Windows XP or Ubuntu. Is this possible? If so, how would I do it, that is, arrange it so a dual boot option presents itself on power up.

• ATI Radeon 5800 series dual monitor unity not 3D accelerated

  When I had a single monitor setup, without Xinerama, with my current setup of Ubuntu 11.10, ATI 5800 series card, Unity showed transparencies, shadows, etc. (although graphics was reported as 'Standard' in the control/settings panel). Having switched to a dual monitor setup, dell 24" UltraSharp and a smaller Acer monitor, Unity shows only as 2d, even though I'm not loggin in to that display manager. WebGL performance is very sluggish, I'm getting the impression that the processor is doing all the work and the card isn't even accessible even though the drivers are installed (from the ubuntu repository, I did not compile custom drivers). Any tips on how to enable full 3D accelerationn and video card support.
