  • Can't get decent refresh rate on crt connected to dvi

    Hi, I have a CRT connected to a dvi connector on a videocard using a vga cable and a dvi to vga adapter. Now I cannot set the refresh rate to anything decent (only 60Hz and lower). I've hat this happen using different CRT's, graphics cards (although all ATI, both agp and pcie), and operating systems (both linux and windows). Any idea on how to solve this, maybe some bios setting? Thanks

  • When spliting MP4s with ffmpeg how do I include metadata?

    I have a few MP4s that i want to upload to my flickr account but they have a maximum size of 500mb as mine is only about 550 i was planing to simply split them in half then upload them, but i want to make sure all the meta data is included but it does not seem to be.     In oVirt (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization) you can create a Virtual Machines Pool to allow your users to retrieve virtual machines from this pool.     O.K I am trying to do the following very simple command and it is failing as follows... mv '/home/admin/Downloads/folder1' '/home/admin/MyLibrary/MyVideos/TV/folder1/' mv: cannot move `/home/admin/Downloads/folder1' to a subdirectory of itself, `/home/admin/MyLibrary/MyVideos/TV/folder1/' The destination is NOT a subfolder of the source - why is it giving me this error?? Linux version is a custom version of Red Hat on a NAS box. Thanks

Now my organization has implemented a proxy server, this is not allowing me to connect to the VPS server.   • Always route a keypress to an application regardless of focus

    I have to transcribe some audio (not enough to download dedicated software but enough to put my hacker hat on) and flipping back and forth between vlc and my text editor every time I want to pause is really annoying. Is there a way to always route a key-press (for example F10) to vlc regardless of what window has focus. Bonus - I have a Makey Makey so if I can get this working I can create a pedal and it will be my first real use of it!

I've heard CentOS performs better under load, however I am aware that Debian has a much larger package repository.   • How expensive is a hostname in htaccess? Other solutions possible?

    For easy allow or disallowing of dynamic IP-adresses you can add them as a hostname in a .htaccess file. As I have read from: .htaccess allow from hostname? it does a reverse lookup on the connecting ip address, seeing if the response matches the allowed name. (Well, actually Apache is doing a double lookup, first a reverse lookup and then a forward lookup on the result of the reverse.) This is the reason we are currently not using dynamic-ip hostnames in the .htaccess: this "sounds" quite heavy: 2 extra lookups for every request. Is this indeed quite heavy, and would a reasonably busy server that is rather looking for less then more load get away with this :)? (e.g.: how does this 'load' compare to the rest? If a request is 1000 times more expensive then the lookups it might be negligible. otoh, it could be that final straw :) ) Are there other solutions? I can write a script that does a lookup of the hostname and put it in .htaccess files ofcourse, but this feels a bit like a hack.

    I know of one: The Angstrom Linux distribution has an online builder (called Narcissus) that allows you to select what applications you want preinstalled in the OS, then builds a working image of it for you to download and run from a flash drive. Is there anything like that for more popular distributions like Red Hat, Fedora, Ubuntu, or Debian? I think this would be particularly useful for virtual appliances and server deployment.
