  • How can I have MySQL write outfiles as a different user?

    I'm working with a MySQL query that writes into an outfile. I run this query once every day or two and so I want to be able to remove the outfile without having to resort to su or sudo. The only way I can think of making that happen is to have the outfile written as owned by someone other than the mysql user. Is this possible? Edit: I am not redirecting output to a file, I am using the INTO OUTFILE part of a select query to output to a file.   • Help write regex that will surround certain text with <strong> tags, only if the <strong> tag isn't

    I have several posts on a website; all these posts are chat conversations of this type: AD: Hey! BC: What's up? AD: Nothing BC: Okay They're marked up as simple paragraphs surrounded by <p> tags. Using the javascript replace function, I want all instances of "AD" in the beginning of a conversation (ie, all instances of "AD" at the starting of a line followed by a ":") to be surrounded by <strong> tags, but only if the instance isn't already surrounded by a <strong> tag. What regex should I use to accomplish this? Am I trying to do what this advises against?   • What programs should I write to truly experience this fancy new language ?

    Tried Scheme at one point, just built up half of a "math" and "string" library before getting bored... Similar experience with Java, but stopped early because I was appalled at the lack of operator overloading. When you try out a new language, is there a program/game/function/exercise/problem that you use to get into the hot meaty center and really EXPERIENCE the language? I've been wanted to try Python, Ruby, some lisps, etc but can't seem to find any meaningful work to do with them, or any reason to use them for anything over languages I already know.   • Write directly to a remote Git repository, without adding objects to a local index/repo?

    Does Git support any commands that would allow me to commit directly from a local/working tree into a remote repository? The normal workflow requires a "git add", at least, to populate the object database with copies of the file contents, etc. I understand that this is NOT the normal, expected Git workflow. But I noticed that Git already supports downloading directly from the repository, with no local repo ("git archive"), so it seems reasonable that there might be a similar uploading operation. Alternatively, if there isn't such a command in the core Git itself, does any 3rd-party software support direct remote writes?

    I have a class written in C# (Windows Forms) It's a WebClient class which I intent to use in some website and for Logging In and navigation. Here's the complete class pastebin.com (the class has 197 lines so I just use pastebin. I was able to log in, but when I navigate to other page (without leaving the domain), I was thrown back to log in page.     I'm invoking a rest service that returns JSON like this: { "some.key" : "some value", "another.key" : "another value" } I would like to think that I can invoke this service with a java.util.Map as the response type but that's not working for me. I get this exception: org.springframework.web.client.RestClientException: Could not extract response: no suitable HttpMessageConverter found for response type [interface java.util.Map] Should I just specify String as the response type and convert the JSON to a Map?

Does anyone know how I can add a custom Toolbar to my Cocoa/MacRuby application, which will accept "regular" items for e.g. switching the view (see http://www.stevestreeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/SelectableToolbarDemo001.png). I've read some tutorials and I guess I have to create a custom delegate for the Toolbar and then connect it via the Outlets window, but how does the myCustomDelegate.rb have to look like?     The canonical implementation of length :: [a] -> Int is: length [] = 0 length (x:xs) = 1 + length xs which is very beautiful but suffers from stack overflow as it uses linear space. The tail-recursive version: length xs = length' xs 0 where length' [] n = n length' (x:xs) n = length xs (n + 1) doesn't suffer from this problem, but I don't understand how this can run in constant space in a lazy language. Isn't the runtime accumulating numerous (n + 1) thunks as it moves through the list? Shouldn't this function Haskell to consume O(n) space and lead to stack overflow? (if it matters, I'm using GHC)

The directory /srv/http has the following permissions set: drwxrwxr-x 2 root httpdev 80 Jun 13 11:48 ./ drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 152 Mar 26 13:56 ../ -rwxrwxr-x 1 root httpdev 8 Jun 13 11:48 index.html* I have created the group httpdev before with the command: groupadd httpdev and added my user sighter with: gpasswd -a sighter httpdev Then i have set the permissions as above using the chown and chmod commands. But now i am not allowed to modify the index.html file or create a new file, as user sighter ,with touch like that: <sighter [bassment] ~http> touch hallo.php touch: cannot touch `hallo.php': Permission denied What do I understand wrong. I was expecting that i can do what i want there then the group has all the rights.     I've recently found this blog entry on a tool that writes XSS attacks directly to the database. It looks like a terribly good way to scan an application for weaknesses in my applications. I've tried to run it on Mono, since my development platform is Linux. Unfortunately it crashes with a System.ArgumentNullException deep inside Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary and I seem to be unable to find sufficient information about the software (it seems to be a single-shot project, with no homepage and no further development). Is anyone aware of a similar tool? Preferably it should be: cross-platform (Java, Python, .NET/Mono, even cross-platform C is ok) open source (I really like being able to audit my security tools) able to talk to a wide range of DB products (the big ones are most important: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, ...)

  • Gathering buslogic SCSI hardware and virtual machine operating system

    I'm trying to use Powershell to get SCSI hardware from several virtual servers and get the operating system of each specific server. I've managed to get the specific SCSI hardware that I want to find with my code, however I'm unable to figure out how to properly get the operating system of each of the servers. Also, I'm trying to send all the data that I find into a csv log file, however I'm unsure of how you can make a powershell script create multiple columns. Also I'm not sure what I need to do to make the OS appear in a different column from the name of the server in the csv log that I'm creating. What do I need to change in my code to get the OS version of each virtual machine and output it in a different column in my csv log file?   • Python/Sqlite program, write as browser app or desktop app?

    I am in the planning stages of rewriting an Access db I wrote several years ago in a full fledged program. I have very slight experience coding, but not enough to call myself a programmer by far. I'll definitely be learning as I go, so I'd like to keep everything as simple as possible. I've decided on Python and SQLite for my program, but I need help on my next decision. Here is my situation 1) It'll be a desktop program, run locally on each machine, all Windows 2) I would really like a nice looking GUI with colors, nice screens, menus, lists, etc, 3) I'm thinking about using a browser interface because (a) from what I've read, browser apps can look really great, and (b) I understand there are lots of free tools to assist in setting up the GUI/GUI code with drag and drop tools, so that helps my "keep it simple" goal. 4) I want the program to be totally portable so it runs completely from one single folder on a user's PC, with no installation(s) needed for it to run (If I did it as a browser app, isn't there the possibility that a user's browser settings could affect or break the app. How likely is this?) For my situation, should I make it a desktop app or browser app?

    Hi! I've written a simple server application which will run distributed on several machines. My question is how does a network load balancer works, in general? I've heard of round-robin and other algorithms, but what I haven't got answer to is how does the process really goes? In socket terms. The client connects to one of the load balancer machines, asks for a "free-to-connect-to" server and simply connects to it? That's the simpliest way I can think of. .. or, does it use the load balancer as a proxy (that implies that all the NBs must be always connected to the application servers, and data is transferred through them)? It's more of a general question. How would you do this? Thank you all!
