    I've a large number of models (120+) and I would like to let users of my application export all of the data from them in XML format. I looked at django-piston, but I would like to do this with minimum code. Basically I'd like to have something like this: GET /export/applabel/ModelName/ Would stream all instances of ModelName in applabel together with it's tree of related objects . I'd like to do this without writing code for each model. What would be the best way to do this?

  • Errors in Decimal Calcs within def clean method?

    I'm attempting a few simple calculations in a def clean method following validation (basically spitting out a euro conversion of retrieved uk product price on the fly). I keep getting a TypeError. Full error reads: Cannot convert {'product': , 'invoice': , 'order_discount': Decimal("0.00"), 'order_price': {...}, 'order_adjust': None, 'order_value': None, 'DELETE': False, 'id': 92, 'quantity': 8} to Decimal so I guess django is passing through the entire cleaned_data form to Decimal method.     I'm building a web application (in Django) that will accept a search criteria and display a report - once the user is satisfied with the results, save both the criteria and a reference to these objects back to the database. The problem I'm having is finding an elegant solution for having 2 forms: Display (GET) the results of their criteria. Enter in some descriptions, and save (POST) everything back to the database. I'm leaning towards AJAX for the GET stuff and a POST for the save, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't a more elegant solution first.

Question: What's would be a good way to solve this problem? (indexing method returns based on the active language) What I have tried: I created a function that runs a loop over every available language (from settings) appending any translation to a list, evaluating this against the query, pre search. If any colors are matched it converts them backwards into their numeric representation to evaluate against obj.color, but this feels wrong.

  • Select_related() backwards relation - auto model population

    Hi. If I have the following model: class Contact(models.Model) name = models.CharField(max_length=100) ... class ContactAddress(models.Model) line1 = models.CharField(max_length=100) line2 = models.CharField(max_length=100) ... contact = models.ForeignKey(Contact) I now want to grab all Contacts and for the address to be auto populated. What would be the best way to do this? The only way I have found so far is to filter out the Contacts I want and loop around each contact and assign this to Contact.addresses. I then use this for outputting each Contacts address within a template. Is there a better way of doing this? Select_related() almost does what I want, but doesn't seem to be able to work in the opposite direction. Thanks in advance for your help on this one!

These steps are missing one very important vital step in order for FBA to work with Active Directory. A supplement to step 3 before granting access in step 5 through the people picker. You need to specify the Active Directory Provider Name to the people picker, otherwise you will not be able specify users through the Policy for Web Application. <PeoplePickerWildcards>       <clear />          <add key="ADMembershipProvider" value="%" />     </PeoplePickerWildcards> Recently we needed to use Forms Based Authentication with Active Directory from an Extranet. This is how we got it to work. 1. Extend the Web Application Instead of tweaking the internal web app, Extend the web application you want to expose to the Extranet, giving it the required host headers etc. 2. Configure SharePoint Central Admin to use FBA for the "new" Web Applications Login to SharePoint Central Admin Go to Application Management / Application Security / Authentication Providers and Change the Web Application to the one which needs to be configured for Forms Based Authentication Click zone / default, change authentication type to forms and enter ActiveDirectoryMemebershipProvider under membership provider name ( for example , "ADMembershipProvider") and save this change 3. Click the Next button. In the Users edit box, type the name of the FBA user whom you wish to have full control for the site. Click the Resolve link next to the Users edit box.   • How to detect UTF-8-based encoded strings [closed]

    A customer of asked us to build him a multi-language based support VB6 scraper, for which we had the need to detect UTF-8 based encoded strings to decode it later for proper displaying in application UI. It's necessary to point out that this need arises based on VB6 limitations to natively support UTF-8 in its controls, contrary to what it happens in .NET where you can tell a control that it should expect UTF-8 encoding. VB6 natively supports ISO 8859-1 and/or Windows-1252 encodings only, for which textboxes, dropdowns, listview controls, others can't be defined to natively support/expect UTF-8 as you can do in .NET considering what we just explained; so we would see weird symbols such as é, è among others, making it a whole mess at the time of displaying. So, next function contains whole UTF-8 encoded punctuation marks and symbols from languages like Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, French and others, based on an excellent UTF-8 based list we got from this link - Ref. http://home.telfort.nl/~t876506/utf8tbl.html Basically, the function compares if each and one of the listed UTF-8 encoded sentences, separated by | (pipe) are found in our passed string making a substring search first. Whether it's not found, it makes an alternative ASCII value based search to get a match. Say, a string like "Societé" (Society in english) would return FALSE through calling isUTF8("Societé") while it would return TRUE when calling isUTF8("SocietÈ") since È is the UTF-8 encoded representation of é. Once you got it TRUE or FALSE, you can decode the string through DecodeUTF8() function for properly displaying it, a function we found somewhere else time ago and also included in this post.   • In ASP.NET MVC (3.0/Razor), do you prefer multiple views, or conditionals within views? Why?

    For my new web app, I'm debating on using multiple views, or conditionals within views. An example scenario would be showing different info to users who are authenticated vs non-authenticated. This could be handled a couple ways. In the controller, check IsAuthenticated and return a view based on that In the view, check IsAuthenticated and show blocks of info based on that Pros of multiple views: Smaller, less complicated view - next to no logic in the view Pros of single views: less view files to maintain The obvious cons are the opposites of the pros: more files to maintain or more complicated view files. Which do you prefer? Why? Any pros/cons I haven't outlined here? Update: Assume each view uses a layout page and partial views to abstract the obviously repetitive code.

Millions of people around the world, use tablets and smartphones to view the contents of websites,e-shops and portals.ASP.Net MVC 4.0 includes a new mobile project template and the ability to render a different set of views for different types of devices.There is a new feature that is called browser overriding which allows us to control exactly what a user is going to see from your web application regardless of what type of device he is using.In order to follow along this post you must have Visual Studio 2012 and .Net Framework 4.5 installed in your machine.Download and install VS 2012 using this link.My machine runs on Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012 works just fine.It will work fine in Windows 7 as well so do not worry if you do not have the latest Microsoft operating system.1) Launch VS 2012 and create a new Web Forms application by going to File - >New Project - > ASP.Net MVC 4 Web Application and then click OKHave a look at the picture below  2) From the available templates select Mobile Application and then click OK.Have a look at the picture below 3) When I run the application I get the mobile view of the page. I would like to show you what a typical ASP.Net MVC 4.0 application looks like. So I will create a new simple ASP.Net MVC 4.0 Web Application. When I run the application I get the normal page view.Have a look at the picture below.On the left is the mobile view and on the right the normal view. As you can see we have more or less the same content in our mobile application (log in,register) compared with the normal ASP.Net MVC 4.0 application but it is optimised for mobile devices. 4) Let me explain how and when the mobile view is selected and finally rendered.There is a feature in MVC 4.0 that is called Display Modes and with this feature the runtime will select a view.If we have 2 views e.g contact.mobile.cshtml and contact.cshtml in our application the Controller at some point will instruct the runtime to select and render a view named contact.The runtime will look at the browser making the request and will determine if it is a mobile browser or a desktop browser. So if there is a request from my IPhone Safari browser for a particular site, if there is a mobile view the MVC 4.0 will select it and render it. If there is not a mobile view, the normal view will be rendered.5) In the  ASP.Net MVC 4.0 (Internet application) I created earlier (not the first project which was a mobile one) I can run it once more and see how it looks on the browser. If I want to view it with a mobile browser I must download one emulator like Opera Mobile.You can download Opera Mobile hereWhen I run the application I get the same view in both the desktop and the mobile browser. That was to be expected. Have a look at the picture below 6) Then I create another version of the _Layout.mobile.cshtml view in the Shared folder.I simply copy and paste the _Layout.cshtml  into the same folder and then rename it to _Layout.mobile.cshtml and then just alter the contents of the _Layout.mobile.cshtml.When I run again the application I get a different view on the desktop browser and a different one on the Opera mobile browser.Have a look at the picture below ?he Controller will instruct the ASP.Net runtime to select and render a view named _Layout.mobile.cshtml when the request will come from a mobile browser.?he runtime knows that a browser is a mobile one through the ASP.Net browser capability provider. Hope it helps!!!

These comments are harmful because they are sent to the client and thus make your page heavier than it needs to be. When doing ASP.NET, a simple drop-in replacement is server comments, which are delimited by <%-- --%> instead of <!-- -->. Those server comments are visible in your source code, but will never be rendered to the client. Here’s a simple way to sanitize a web site. From Visual Studio, hit CTRL+H to bring the search and replace dialog. Choose “Replace in Files” from the second meny on top of the dialog. Open the find options, check “use” and make sure “Regular expressions” are selected. Use “*.aspx;*.ascx;” as the file types to examine. Choose “Entire Solution” under “Look in”. Here’s the expression to search for comments: \<!--{[^-]*}--\> And here’s the replacement string: <%--\1--%> I usually use the “Find Next” and “Replace” buttons rather than the more brutal “Replace All” in order to not apply the fix blindingly. Once this is done, I do a second manual pass of finds with the same expression to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

    Researchers at Arizona State University have stitched together a massive high-resolution map of the moon; seen the moon in astounding detail. Using images fro the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) they carefully stitch a massive map of the moon with a higher resolution than the public has ever seen before: The WAC has a pixel scale of about 75 meters, and with an average altitude of 50 km, a WAC image swath is 70 km wide across the ground-track. Because the equatorial distance between orbits is about 30 km, there is nearly complete orbit-to-orbit stereo overlap all the way around the Moon, every month. Using digital photogrammetric techniques, a terrain model was computed from this stereo overlap. Hit up the link below to check out the images and the process they used.
