• Weebly Websites SEO

  From what I understand Weebly uses the drag and drop interface and even when looking at the code, it doesn't show the full content, but rather shows {content} which is where the drag and drop parts of the content are put. Does their drag and drop content, such as text have the same effect as a <p> or <h1> tag would on a website? Is the weebly drag and drop less optimized for SEO? Does using Weebly have an adverse affect on SEO compared with building from scratch if I do include keywords, alternate text etc...?

• Removing spam external links after pharma hack?

  Back in February my work's site was attacked by a pharma hack at the shared hosting end. I managed to find the placed file and the reference to run it in one of our files. I deleted this file, deleted and redownloaded all of the plugins and themes and reinstalled Wordpress. However I could never find the database entries no matter what I have read up on. Searching for known entries or for drug names backwards etc. On the Google and Bing end I have managed to deny and delete the entries and cache of most if not all of the bad links that the hack managed to instantly SEO to death (why don't these guys work legit and make more money?) However the one thing that is remaining is external links on the homepage that are invisible except when the site is viewed in google cache or scanned with unmaskparasites.com (and says that the external links are safe even though they're obviously not!). http://www.UnmaskParasites.com/security-report/?page=kmcharityteam.co.uk All sorts of website scans say there's nothing wrong with it and I can't find the source of the links in the header or footer or anywhere in the theme. I've searched for the links in the database but no use there either and they change every day so really I'd have to be looking for a generator? Does anybody have any advice or a solution for removing these links? Thanks!

• Port numbers appended to anchor tags

  I've built a static site. Locally, when I serve the content with python -m SimpleHTTPServer everything behaves normally, but when I copy the HTML onto the server and browse the site at the server's URL, some links will have a port number appended to the domain. For example: url.com:84/path where the correct path is url.com/path. The port number is usually different, always between 81-85. It is an Apache server. I'm not experienced with web server configuration, and I'm not the admin of the server.   I already bought a domain name .com on godaddy for my company. I would like to reserve the same name with country specific domain extention, but not sure where to buy them and how to do it. Here are the ones that I would like to buy: Europe: fr, co.uk, de, ch, es, it, nl, se, no, ru australia: com.au asia: sg Godaddy has all except 1 in europe, australia and singapore. Should I find a website that sell all of them or should I buy some of them in godaddy and others elsewhere? Any suggestions where to buy them? • How to use rel=canonical with Sitecore aliases?

  I have inherited a Sitecore architecture that is a mess from an SEO duplicate content POV. There are multiple aliases that have been created (and indexed by the search engines) for many of the 2nd tier pages of the site. Due to server issues, I am not able to 301 redirect these duped pages, so I would like to use the rel=canonical tag in an attempt to try and get Google/Bing to recognize the correct pages I would like to appear in the index. I have blocked the most extraneous duped pages with a robots.txt file, however, since Google/Bing have already spidered many of the duped pages, I need to keep them accessible to the spiders, BUT removed from the index. The catch is, since the duped pages are aliases (and don't really physically exist in Sitecore that I can find), I am not sure how to go about using rel=canonical - or if I even can in this situation..?

• Images not indexed by google since moving to cdn

  Last week I moved all the images on coffeeandvanilla.com to a cdn( maxcdn.coffeeandvanilla.com ). The problem I'm having is that although the sitemap—generated by yoast wordpress seo plugin—points images to the correct location, google only indexes[sic] images from the category and page site maps but 0 images from the posts sitemap( see screenshot https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4635252/sitemap.png ) This website has been doing quite well with google image-search before the change, visits from google image search have dropped from ~200/day to 11 yesterday Here is an example entry from the generated posts.xml sitemap http://pastebin.com/vcMRf9VW Can anyone suggest where the problem lies? Why have I lost all my google image juice? Should I just wait some more, how long before really worrying?

I'm thinking of hosting our own site on a separate web host, but emails sent to our domain might be directed to our web host. Is there a way to continue using Gmail while the domain points to the web host? I've never dealt with domain names and web hosts before, nor am I experienced with web development (will use a CMS).

  I'm setting up a list of ping services for a portal. It has a blog, forum, articles, restaurants, hotels and many other information, so it is far beyond a blog. I have a list of standard ping services for WP blogs - but I do not know if this should be literally only for blogs. My questions are: Is it recommended to ping blog services from a portal, such as http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2? Are there any penalties for sites that are not recognized as blogs? Is there some list of ping services for regular websites and not only blogs? Thanks!

• Password protect an alias virtual difrecory

  I have a main domain being hosted through CPanel. I also have a sub-domain that I would like to appear as a path under the main domain instead of as a sub-domain. So I have: http://example.com/ pointing to the main hosted file. http://example.com/mydir pointing to the subdomain files. This is achieved by a httpd.conf include from the main domain section to set an alias: alias /mydir /path/to/subdomain/files/ Now, that works fine so far. The problem is that if a .htaccess file under /path/to/the/subdomain/files/ contains an error, the alias is completely skipped, and /mydir goes instead to the main host files. That is kind of surprising to me - I would expect an error to return an error instead. Now the killer: if I try to password protect /path/to/subdomain/files/, then trying to access http://example.com/mydir will again attempt to deliver from under the main hosted files and not from /path/to/subdomain/files/ I am not seeing any errors reported on the .htaccess file in the apache error log, so I am assuming the .htaccess is valid: AuthUserFile /path/to/valid/readable/.htpasswd AuthName "Secure Access" AuthType Basic Require valid-user This kind of behaviour does not seem right to me. Is there something obvious that could be causing it? Or is this just the way it works? Perhaps using an alias is the wrong way to go?

• google chrome : http authentication issue on iframe

  I have an HTML file with 2 links http://versionplus.in/pass/new.html, both links are in an iframe to load the contents inside the iframe. I have two protected directories one on the same server and other on another server. If you click on either link it will popup the login box, same for both links in all browsers except google chorme. google chrome doesn't show login box for the protected folder on another server, how can I fix this ?

• How can I view localized versions of my site?

  We are adding internationalization to our site. We are getting the client's IP address from the headers and looking it up against the IP2location database to get the client's country. Several of our clients reported seeing a blank page over the weekend. We'd like to be able to get screenshots or use a browser from many different countries on an ongoing basis for testing code changes. I need to know what the site looks like when accessed from various countries since there are several elements that vary by country. I've used Tor and Vidalia, along with the Tor customized Firefox browser however it appears the CSS is getting mangled. I have also used http://webpagetest.org to check the site, however the screenshot it gives is too small to be really useful. Is there a site or a service I can use to get screenshots or interact with my website from various countries?

• SEO on an existing platform

  I'm given the task to increase user visits and conversions on for a recruitment website. Conversions would be interested job seekers submitting their CV. The manager would first like to increase the organic search results and optimize the website before starting with targeted campaigns. The problem is, they are using a proprietary recruitment software platform which I can barely add changes to. For example, the url's all look like dynamic url's without any semantic meaning and the markup is almost completely build automatically by that platform. I'm also confident that the lack of submitted CV's is due to a bad user experience of the website (no incentives or clear CTA to register) Besides optimizing the static texts and page titles, is there anything I can do?   One of our clients is getting a bit worried about the new "Do Not Track" feature of Internet Explorer 10. Her site is heavily dependent on php sessions (as I imagine many other sites are). • How do I find information on who links to my sites?

  I'm trying to figure out if there's a free way to get information on backlinks to my site. I've had webmaster tools and google analytics set up for years. But I can't find access to data about site backlinks in either toolset. Webmaster tools, under 'traffic'-'links to your site' gives me the same message for all of my sites: "No data available". I haven't been able to find anything in GA that gives any information on backlinks. I've heard of using "links:" as an operator in google search, but for each of my sites, this returns either zero or very few results in cases when I know I have many backlinks. Most of the links simple aren't shown. My thinking is that google maintains a graph of who links to my site, so I figured that they might let me see it. But I can't figure out how. I've found this tool on a spammy website: http://www.backlinkwatch.com. It offers more data than google on my backlines, and offers more results in exchange for a paid subscription. The data it offers for free looks good, but the results are limited and the site has popups and obnoxious ads. So, in short: how do I get data on who links to me? Is there a free way?

• Possible for using a surrogate to buy a .it domain?

  I'm a US citizen interested in buying an Italian TLD (*.it). However, those domains can only be registered by EU citizens or residents, or businesses with a registrant who is an Italian citizen and resident. Are there companies that provide a 'surrogate' like service? They fulfill the requirements for registration but I can administer the domain properties? What are they and what can I expect to pay for the middleman? Or am I a horrible person for even considering 'circumventing' the intent of the restriction?

  What do you need to know to at the very least get your foot in the door? We're assuming for someone who doesn't have a college degree (yet) but will eventually get one. My guess is html, css, javascript, and php, and photoshop and dreamweaver, and sql. And being familiar with using a web host to have sites live, like knowing how to use cpanel. It's probably a very inaccurate and narrow guess but that's what i think right now. I don't know exactly.

  Hi all I'm in the process of finding out all about sprites and how they can speed up your pages. So I've used spriteMe to create a overall sprite image which is 130kb, this is made up of 14 images with a combined total size of about 65kb So is it better to have one http request and a file size of 130kb or 14 requests for a total of 65kb? Also there is a detailed image which has been put into the spite which caused it's size to go up by about 60kb odd, this used to be a seperate jpg image which was only 30kb. Would I be better off having it seperate and suffering the additional request?

  I owned two website. Let's say as example www.first.com and www.second.com. I have two apps in Google chrome-store whose app URL is: app1 URL = www.first.com/currency_converter.php app2 URL = www.first.com/currency_converter.php respectively. Currently if user lunch/click on first app URL then I am forwarding them to my first website homepage (www.first.com), where I have AdSense code with currency converter app. In this way I am generating Google ad impression and traffic for my first website (i.e www.first.com). So is this valid way? Does I am violating any Google AdSense rule? Please provide your reply or suggestions. • How can I stop a bot attack on my site?

  I have a site (built with wordpress) that is currently under a bot attack (as best I can tell). A file is being requested over and over, and the referrer is (almost every time) turkyoutube.org/player/player.swf. The file being requested is deep within my theme files, and is always followed by "?v=" and a long string (i.e. r.php?v=Wby02FlVyms&title=izlesen.tk_Wby02FlVyms&toke). I've tried setting an .htaccess rule for that referrer, which seems to work, except that now my 404 page is being loaded over and over, which is still using lots of bandwidth. Is there a way to create an .htaccess rule that requires no bandwidth usage on my part? I also tried creating a robots.txt file, but the attack seems to be ignoring that. #This is the relevant part of the .htaccess file: RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} turkyoutube\.org [NC] RewriteRule .* - [F]

• How do I get categories for a product in Magento [closed]

  I'm trying to add product_type to my Magento Google Base output based on the product's categories, but I seem to be unable to. I have the following code: // Get categories from product to include as product_type $categoryIds = $object->getCategoryIds(); foreach($categoryIds as $categoryId) { $category = Mage::getModel('catalog/category')->load($categoryId); $this->_setAttribute('product_type', $category->getName(), 'text' ); } The issue is that it returns all of the categories, not just the ones the product is in. • CMS for single user-editable pages?

  Does anybody know of a CMS where users can edit their own page, and their page only (something similar to about.me, except with more customization/options)? I'm not talking about profiles, but more like an individual web page for people's businesses. I want to be able to give local businesses the opportunity to make a single web page for their businesses with ease.
