• Mapping a URL to a service inside a class library

  I'm developing a small content management solution than can be used in any ASP.NET 3.5 website. The website references some dll's and then lets the aspx's inherit my page baseclass. Some configuration in web.config is also needed, but thats it. Now I'm building a standalone Silverlight editor for the CMS. My idea is that it should communicate with the server using web services. But the question is how to make this service available to the editor? I don't want the website developers having to bother with it. If I used a REST API rather than SOAP I could just create an HttpHandler in my class library and let the website developers add a handler to it in web.config with the path "editor" and then the editor could communicate with that handler on mywebsite.com/editor. Is there any way to achieve the same with a asmx or wcf service? The important thing is that the website developers never have to set up any asmx files or anything. They should only have to specify a url and map that url to a service inside my class library. Thanks in advance!

  I got a wireless broadband modem (Huawei E1750) hooked up to my computer (call it A., running Windows-7) whose internet I wish to share to my other computer (call it B., also running Windows-7). A. is hooked up to my d-link DIR-600 router using a wired connection to port 1 on the router. B. is connected to the router using a wireless connection. Now I have tried setting up the sharing according to the help files for ICS but I have not been able to get it working. I suspect that there is something in my hardware configuration that is making it difficult. I would appreciate some tips and pointers as to what could be the reason to my problems.

  Essentially, I have a spare desktop computer I'd like to turn into a web server, but my modem and wireless router are very difficult to work with. I installed Apache HTTP and successfully hosted a test page which can be accessed anywhere on the LAN. However, I'm having trouble setting up the server to be accessed from my external IP address. I was supplied with a ZyXEL EQ-660R DSL modem by my ISP (CenturyLink) and bought a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router in which to connect my laptop and spare desktop. ZyXEL's website is no help, and I don't think much of the problem is with the Netgear router. I've played with many settings and have tried to forward port 80 from the modem, but I've had no luck. Could someone direct me toward a solution or recommendations for more promising hardware? Or should I admit defeat and explore other hobbies? :)

• Port forwarding problem

  I have a modem connecting to ADSL2 network and a router connecting to the modem. The rest of the machines all connect to the router. The modem has IP as 192.168.1.1 and the router's IP is 192.168.0.1. From the modem configuration, I can see that the modem thinks the router's IP is 192.168.1.2. I can visit the router by either using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.2. Now I forward a port from the router to a private machine. It works. I can test it by typing 192.168.1.2 and it is redirected to the private machine. But if I use 192.168.0.1, it is still the router's configuration page. I also do a port forwarding on my modem. Since the modem sees only the router, I can only forward the port to the router's specific port. And I am thinking that by doing this, I can reach the private machine after two times port forwarding, once on the modem and once on the router. I also have a static public IP. I want to achieve the goal that when someone types the public IP, he will be redirected to the private machine. But when I use some online port forwarding tester, the result always says that the port is closed on the public IP. I have the questions: Why my router has two IPs? Why using one IP I can see the port forwarding result while using the other I cannot? I think the port forwarding only works when visiting from outside, rather than from both outside and inside. Otherwise, if I set port forwarding on my router/modem on port 80, I will never be able to see its original configuration page again. Everything is forwarded. Am I right? How can I achieve my goal described above? By achieve this, I will have a dedicated server of my own and the users can visit from the public IP. Anyone can correct me on any mistakes I made? I am using Netconn modem and D-Link DIR-300 router. Thank you very much for any help. Edit: Consider I have correctly setup the whole thing. Now I want to test my website by using public IP to visit it, but the port forwarding doesn't work. Does it consider that I am inside the local network and not using the port forwarding? I have a generic tablet: C97- Atom N2600 9.7" 2GB 32GB Bluetooth WiFi WebCam Ext.3G Windows 7 Tablet PC Using 12.04 and cannot find a driver. I installed android and the touchscreen works but still lots of other bugs. Oh well, stuck with Windows 7 and not happy about it. Will keep trying, but too much time wasted already. • usb wifi dongle on ubuntu server, cannot install realtek driver RTL 8188cus

  I got cheap Ebay wifi dongle from HongKong, Im trying to set it up on my ubuntu server. Occasionally need to move server, so it cannot always be connected to router via lan. Anyhow, usb wifi came with a driver cd. • NGINX Configuration Error using Codex Example: Is This a Typo in Codex?

  I installed NGINX using this tutorial: C3M Digital NGINX Tuturial but after reading this article on security issues with "cut and paste" configuration tutorials: Neal Poole's article regarding security and NGINX configuration I decided to follow Poole's suggestion to use the configuration suggested in the WordPress codex: Codex on NGINX Configuration I used the Codex configuration for a multisite installation using W3 Total Cache. When attempting to start NGINX I get an error saying that the /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed. The error message was: "Restarting nginx: nginx: [emerg] unknown directive "//" in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/teambrazil.com:18" When I looked at my site specific configuration at that path I noticed the rewrite rule in the server block was: rewrite ^ $scheme://teambrazil.conf$request_uri redirect; That line in the Codex example was: rewrite ^ $scheme://mysite.conf$request_uri redirect; That looked like a mistake to me, and I changed my line to: rewrite ^ $scheme://teambrazil.com$request_uri redirect; I then attempted to restart NGINX but got the same error message. My question is: is that a mistake, and is there anything more I have to do aside from restarting NGINX after making this change. As suggested by both tutorials I set up the directories: /etc/nginx/sites-enabled and /etc/nginx/sites-available and created the appropriate symbolic links using: touch /etc/nginx/sites-available/teambrazil.com ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/teambrazil.com /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/teambrazil.com Is there something else I need to consider after making this correction? Or was it not an error in the first place? I'm pretty stuck here. BTW, I am using Debian squeeze as an OS on Amerinoc's VPS. I'm just getting familiar with VPS administration and am pretty much a noob. Thanks very much, would appreciate any input.

The packet must first go to the router. The router must forward it to the correct computer based on port forwarding rules. So how can a software application manage port forwarding if the packet must GO to the computer running this software application in the first place, meaning that port forwarding already is successful in the first place?

• Internet stopped working after aircrack install (can still connect to my router). Suggestions?

  I'm sure I did something dumb during the install for aircrack, but I have no clue what. Like I said, I can connect to my router (not trying to crack, simply logging into it), I just can't get internet access. To make this more interesting, the machine is dual booted and when I log into Windows I have zero issues. I feel like some driver may have been messed up in the process, but I'm not sure if that's a reasonable assumption or how exactly to check that. Also, can't revert to backup as there are none. Suggestions on how to trouble-shoot would be appreciated. EDIT: Hard-wiring to the wall I can get internet access on the Ubuntu side... PS- I know this is a stretch as far as fitting the Ubuntu section, but no other stackoverflow sites seemed to fit better.

I have configured a DHCP pool for the 10.0.0.0/24 network. I have excluded 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.99 from the DHCP pool. I want to add a static DHCP pool for stuff and I want DHCP to statically assign them the addresses of my choice below 100. Actually, I don't care what addresses I statically assign. They can be anything in the pool for all I care, I just want it to work. Why are you doing this? Just statically assign the IPs on the devices! I don't want to do this because I have some laptop users. They could obviously only use that static IP here. This isn't a problem if they could be bothered to change any location setting or something. They can't. So it HAS to be DHCP. It also has to be static IPs because I need to forward ports to them. I know, I know, this is weird but it's an apartment LAN/WLAN so this isn't exactly a typical use case. The assembly should act as a wcf client and connect to a wcf service host (inside a windows service) on the same machine using named pipes. The wcf service host works fine with other clients, so the problem must be within this assembly. In order to get things work I added a service reference to the ComVisible assembly and proxy classes and the corresponding app.config settings were generated for me. Everything fine so far except that the app config would not be recognized when doing an CreateObject with my assembly in the asp code.   Hello, We have an application that logs using log4net. But we would like to delete the logfiles every 4 weeks (automatically). Is there an option in log4net to do this or do we need to have a work arround? Cheers, M.
