  I have some info back from a LAN switch as below Vlan 1 is administratively down, line protocol is down Vlan 2 is up, line protocol is up Helper address is 192.168.0.2 Vlan 3 is up, line protocol is up Helper address is not set Vlan 4 is up, line protocol is up Helper address is 192.168.0.2 Vlan 5 is down, line protocol is down Helper address is 192.168.0.2 Vlan 6 is down, line protocol is down Helper address is not set Helper address is not set And the output I'm trying for is Vlan 1,admin down,n/a Vlan 2,up/up, 192.168.0.2 Vlan 3, up/up, not set Vlan 4, up/up, 192.168.0.2 Vlan 5, down/down, 192.168.0.2 Vlan 6, down/down, not set So the helper isn't always there (line 1) sometimes it's set sometimes it isn't, sometimes there are two lines (last Vlan - I only need 1) and the Vlan can have states of admin down, up/up, up/down (not here) and down down. So using Python and pexpect I can get the above output, but I'm having difficulty parsing out the consecutive lines. I've tried enumerate and then use key+1 for the next line, but the fact that there can be 0,1 or 2 lines following the Vlan screws me. Any ideas please?

I know that perhaps a header file is needed(containing filename, size of filename, start and end of file) for extracting these files back out into their original form, but how would I go about doing this. I am stuck on where and how to start. Please could someone help me on some logic as to how to approach extracting files back out of an archived file.

• PHP error log does not display script names nor does it display the errors' line numbers [migrated]

  I think the title is self-explanatory, and my Google-fu isn't bringing up anything useful. I'm working on a new host, and my php error log only displays the error itself, not which script is the offender, nor which line number the error is occurring on. Makes it a tad difficult to debug, especially since there's only 1 error in the script. More info: I'm not using a custom error handler that I'm aware of. This is a standard Wordpress install. The error was [27-Aug-2012 19:22:36 UTC] PHP NOTICE: Trying to get property of non-object. Just no script name or line number in the error I found that Wordpress' error logging contained the information to debug the problem, but that doesn't explain why the log didn't contain line number or script.

  How can I find where the error occurs? In C language, the return value means what error occurs, such as failure to open file or memory allocation. There is no information where the error occurs. For example, function 'foo' calls A,B,C,D. If foo returns an error value, it might be return value of A or B or C or D. I cannot find what function returns error.   I have a data frame with two variables, Date and Taxa and want to get the date for the first time each taxa occurs. There are 9 different dates and 40 different taxa in the data frame consisting of 172 rows, but my answer should only have 40 rows. Taxa is a factor and Date is a date. For example, my data frame (called 'species') is set up like this: Date Taxa 2013-07-12 A 2011-08-31 B 2012-09-06 C 2012-05-17 A 2013-07-12 C 2012-09-07 B and I would be looking for an answer like this: Date Taxa 2012-05-17 A 2011-08-31 B 2012-09-06 C I tried using: t.first <- species[unique(species$Taxa),] and it gave me the correct number of rows but there were Taxa repeated. If I just use unique(species$Taxa) it appears to give me the right answer, but then I don't know the date when it first occurred. Thanks for any help.

  I'm trying to use WCF to consume a web service provided by a third-party's Oracle Application Server. I pass a username and password and as part of the response the web service returns a standard security tag in the header which includes a digest and signature. With my current setup, I successfully send a request to the server and the web service sends the expected response data back. However, when parsing the response WCF throws a MessageSecurityException, with an InnerException.Message of "Supporting token signatures not expected." My guess is that WCF wants me to configure it to handle the signature and verify it. I have a certificate from the third party that hosts the web service that I should be able to use to verify the signature. • Should a Perl constructor return an undef or a "invalid" object?

  Question: What is considered to be "Best practice" - and why - of handling errors in a constructor?. "Best Practice" can be a quote from Schwartz, or 50% of CPAN modules use it, etc...; but I'm happy with well reasoned opinion from anyone even if it explains why the common best practice is not really the best approach. As far as my own view of the topic (informed by software development in Perl for many years), I have seen three main approaches to error handling in a perl module (listed from best to worst in my opinion): Construct an object, set an invalid flag (usually "is_valid" method). Often coupled with setting error message via your class's error handling. Pros: Allows for standard (compared to other method calls) error handling as it allows to use $obj->errors() type calls after a bad constructor just like after any other method call. Allows for additional info to be passed (e.g. 1 error, warnings, etc...) Allows for lightweight "redo"/"fixme" functionality, In other words, if the object that is constructed is very heavy, with many complex attributes that are 100% always OK, and the only reason it is not valid is because someone entered an incorrect date, you can simply do "$obj->setDate()" instead of the overhead of re-executing entire constructor again. This pattern is not always needed, but can be enormously useful in the right design. Cons: None that I'm aware of. Return "undef". Cons: Can not achieve any of the Pros of the first solution (per-object error messages outside of global variables and lightweight "fixme" capability for heavy objects). Die inside the constructor. Outside of some very narrow edge cases, I personally consider this an awful choice for too many reasons to list on the margins of this question. UPDATE: Just to be clear, I consider the (otherwise very worthy and a great design) solution of having very simple constructor that can't fail at all and a heavy initializer method where all the error checking occurs to be merely a subset of either case #1 (if initializer sets error flags) or case #3 (if initializer dies) for the purposes of this question. Obviously, choosing such a design, you automatically reject option #2.

  The error i'm getting is in the fillPayroll() method in the while loop where it says payroll.add(employee). The error says I can't invoke add() on an array type Person but the Employee class inherits from Person so I thought this would be possible. • To what extent should code try to explain fatal exceptions?

  I suspect that all non-trivial software is likely to experience situations where it hits an external problem it cannot work around and thus needs to fail. This might be due to bad configuration, an external server being down, disk full, etc. In these situations, especially if the software is running in non-interactive mode, I expect that all one can really do is log an error and wait for the admin to read the logs and fix the problem. If someone happens to interact with the software in the meantime, e.g. a request comes in to a server that failed to initialize properly, then perhaps an appropriate hint can be given to check the logs and maybe even the error can be echoed (depending on whether you can tell if they're a technical guy as opposed to a business user). For the moment though let's not think too hard about this part. My question is, to what extent should the software be responsible for trying to explain the meaning of the fatal error? In general, how much competence/knowledge are you allowed to presume on administrators of the software, and how much should you include troubleshooting information and potential resolution steps when logging fatal errors? Of course if there's something that's unique to the runtime context this should definitely be logged; but lets assume your software needs to talk to Active Directory via LDAP and gets back an error "[LDAP: error code 49 - 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C090334, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 525, vece]". Is it reasonable to assume that the maintainers will be able to Google the error code and work out what it means, or should the software try to parse the error code and log that this is caused by an incorrect user DN in the LDAP config? I don't know if there is a definitive best-practices answer for this, so I'm keen to hear a variety of views.

But when I call validation on IebeUser I only get validation errors for the closedUserAnswers or the openUserAnswers as a whole. I don't get validation errors for each object with a problem which is what I need. I really need an error per instance. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Even when I call the validate method against each closedUserAnswer/openUserAnswer I still only get one per type. Here are my errors. • How do I make a SignalR client something when it receives a message?

  I want to do something when a client receives a message via a SignalR hub. I've put together a basic chat app, but want people to be able to "like" a chat comment. I'm thinking the way to do this is to find the chat message on the client's page and update it using javascript. In the meantime to "prove the concept" I just want to make an alert popup on the client machine to say another user likes the comment. Trouble is, I'm not sure where to put it. (Am struggling to find SignalR documentation to be honest.) can't get my head round what is calling what here.
