I'm serious - is it really fun for *nix sysadmins spending half of their life on spotting typo in httpd.conf ? What not use xml or json - (write gui tools would be easy)
Hi all, I am moving the SQL Server from MSSQL 2000 to MSSQL 2005, and I found the article in the web like this:

It works, but the problem is, it only move database one by one. Because I have so many database, is there any easy way to do so? or is there provides any batches / untitlty allow me to do so? thz u.
Is there a simple way to export the current selected layer as a png/jpg file in Gimp 2.8.4 ?
I did some searching in google, and the export should do it in gimp 2.6 if the layer is the only visible layer, but I can't get that to work for gimp 2.8
The way I currently do it now is that I select the content, and cut/paste it to a new image, then export the image and close it, but a simple export selected layer would be much more easy to use.
I'm new with Linux and have noticed that there are numbers beside certain commands I look up.
For example I want to look up accept() in the aspect of network programming, but man accept shows this instead:
accept(8) Easy Software Products accept(8)
NAME
accept/reject - accept/reject jobs sent to a destination
So how do you switch between manual pages to other numbers like accept(1) ~ accept(7)?
I'm going to be distributing instructions on how to access our new Subversion repository with TortoiseSVN. Because it's hosted on Windows, and we have some large files in the repository, we have to use the Serf HTTP library instead of neon.
This is normally specified by manually editing the Subversion "servers" file on the client machine and adding the line
http-library=serf
Is there a way I can customize the TortoiseSVN installer to do this automatically? I'm just trying to get it up and running as easy as possible for our new SVN users.
I am having trouble finding such functionalities in Microsoft Powerpoint 2003. I tried googling it but no luck either. Does it exist? Is there an easy way to find keywords in a group of Powerpoint presentation files? Thanks in advance.
I can't find any freeware to make vectorial annotation for picture so that I can easily modify it. Gimp and Inkscape don't really make this easy.
Any suggestion ?
In the Outlook "folder list", it is quite easy to accidentally pickup a folder and move that into another folder. There is no undo for this, and I have not found a way to prevent this.
I thought it was just me, but I recently saw a coworker do the same thing while filing mail via drag and drop. We are using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2007.
I'm looking for a reasonable reference to a known software personality who said something along the lines "make sure your software runs the most common cases fast/easy but all cases are possible". I'm sure there are many 80/20 quotes, so I'm looking for the most famous that gets that point across.

I recently updated to Windows 7 64-bit from XP on my Dell Latitude D830. Now I am not able to watch dvd's because it says the video card does not support DirectX 9.0. Is there an easy way to fix this or do I have to find a new video card?
Hello everyone,
I am using Windows 7 and I have a big text file (log file) which needs to be splitted into small files. Any good tool to use? I prefer to use line based split tool if available. It is better free and easy to use.
thanks in advance,
George
I have a remote Windows 2008 machine and the task at hand is to share out parts of its filesystem via SFTP for a single user.
Were commercial software an option things would be easy but I want freeware.
After trying out several different candidates such as Core FTP Mini SFTP Server, SilverShield and freeFTPd none them really qualified - either connection issues, zero configurability or bugs.
Is there a free and stable SFTP server for Windows 2008 which works out of the box?
Emacs has elaborate protection against simultaneous editing by two different users. If there a way to have that same facility for protecting against simultaneous editing by the same user?
With lots of windows and workspaces open, it's easy to reopen a file that you already have open somewhere else. But because it does not detect a lock conflict when you open the file, you will only learn about the collision when you save.
please excuse me if this is too easy and i just havent looked in the right places.
the issue is this: when i use safari, i havent found a drop down list like you have on IE addresbar. in IE you can dropdown this list and choose sites.

I'm writing this on a MacBook Air 13" (the ones just released), but I have a problem. BootCamp provides no easy way of turning off the bluetooth or wifi radios, and nor are there any hotkey combinations on the keyboard, nor any hard or soft switches on the body to toggle these radios.
As I'll be travelling a lot with this machine, what's the best way for me to comply with the cabin service crews' instructions and disable the radios before takeoff, and reenable them after landing?

Batch-convert files for encoding or line ending under Windows
Hey!
I have many files that are encoded in the ANSI (iso-8859-1) format and I want to change it to utf8.
I am converting one by one using notepad++ but I was wondering if there is any application that will convert them all (I have many files) in a quick and easy way.
Anyone know of one app that will do this?? (free app would be great)
Thanks
I have a Windows 2003 Server that I want to migrate to new hardware. All the setup and configuration was done by my predecessor. Right now I'm in a real time crunch and I just want to copy all the files and settings to the new machine. Is there an easy way to do this or do I need to manually copy all the files and add all the settings?
Microsoft KB suggests "Automated System Recovery", is this the best way forward?
Im trying to figure out if there is an easy way to identify the missing critical patches/packages on my RHEL5 boxes. This is for audit purposes and was trying to figure out if there was an RPM command or something of the sort that would accomplish this easily.
I know with my Solaris 10 boxes, i can run the "smpatch analyze" command which would display this information for me. Anyone know of anything similar for RHEL5?
Thanks.
I am giving a lightning talk shortly and need to put together some slides. It is a technical talk about Perl documentation. I will be using a OS X machine to run the presentation software.
I would like something that is
minimalistic
easy to publish to the web
simple to control (forward and back should do it, but hotkey access to individual slides would be nice)
simple to create slides for (preferably purely text based and doesn't require much in the way of markup)
I want to buy a USB powered GPS module together with a mapping software. Any recommendations and various options that I have ?
Much like Garmin's MapSource software and GPS 18 USB:
nRoute features an easy-to-use
interface, making it intuitive to
operate so you can focus on driving.
It offers auto-routing and
voice-prompting capabilities to
virtually any address. The GPS 18 USB
includes a 12 parallel channel,
WAAS-enabled sensor with USB
connection.
Is there an easy way in windows to set a given string, like "sidb" to run a program or open a given folder in Windows?
My original idea was to be able to run commands like that in the "Execute" start button menu (or Win + R),so I'd just have to do WIN+R and type "sidb".
What is the best way to accomplish this?
EDIT:
May I rephrase this as : Is there a way to define for example, in systems variables, sibd="C:.......blabla\ and then I'd just have to type "sibd" in Run?
