  • PHPMailer safe practices - Send escaped / sanitized variables or not ?

    I'm using the PHPMailer-Lite class to build an email sending script and I'm not sure if I should use addslashses() on the $name variable when adding it to the constructor. If somebody's last name would be O'Riley (or any other name that contains characters which should normally be sanitized before handling) and I would send it unescaped, wouldn't it mess with the script/email sending ? Is it safe to send it unescaped ? As a side note, I would also like to avoid having my message body say "Hello, O\'Riley". Looking at the source, I saw that it only trims the whitespace and line ending (\r\n) characters from the received $name variable, so any advice on this would be more than welcome.   • How to calculate dawn / dusk times

    Hi, I'm currently using this code to calculate the sunrise / sunset times. (To be more precise, I'm looking for civil dawn / civil dusk times which are defined as the time when the sun is between 0° and -6° altitude). As a next step, I'd like to compute the dawn beginning and dusk ending times. I believe the calculations must be very similar. My idea is that if I want to calculate the dawn beginning (dusk ending) time for a place I just calculate the sunrise (sunset) times for a place 6° farther east (west). Can somebody confirm this assumption, or am I thinking wrong? Thanks for answers! -- Ry

  • Entity Framework v4 examples and tutorials of conceptual model mapping

    In an application I'm writing I have a fairly complicated Database model. I'd like to use EF4 to map this to a whole lot nicer conceptual model. However all the tutorials I've read are with samples of 2 or 3 tables which all map 1 on 1 to the conceptual model. I'd like to learn how to correctly map the database model to a different conceptual model using VS 2010. However I can't find any good tutorials or (preferabally) instruction video's. Somebody got any tips, links or even books?

    im sure you guys must have seen the shift happens video series. here's a link to them : http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shift+happens&search_type=&aq=f also, the recent hungry beast video about google, which can be found here: (SO doesnt allow new users more than one hyperlink, so please search on youtube for this one) what i'd like to ask you guys is this: is there a program that enables such videos to be made quickly or is it really just the creative genius of the respective authors? i think vidoes like these are extremely useful when you want to make an impact and would find many uses for such a program in my line of work. im hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. ps. i DO know of animoto, so please dont suggest that :P the problem with animoto is that it doesnt allow text manipulation like these videos. to be fair, that is a great product in itself, but im sure if you take a look, you'll see the difference that im talking abuot.

  • Problem requesting a HTTPS with TCL

    Hi Everybody, I'm trying to do the following request using TCL (OpenACS) http::register https 443 tls::socket set url "https://encrypted.google.com" set token [http::geturl $url -timeout 30000] set status [http::status $token] set answer [http::data $token] http::cleanup $token http::unregister https The problem is that when I read the $status variable I get "eof" and the $answer variable becomes empty. I tried enabling tls V.1 http::register https 443 [list tls::socket -tls1 1] and it works only for the site https://www.galileo.edu, but not for https://encrypted.google.com. The site what I'm trying to connect is https://graph.facebook.com/me/feed?access_token=... but it doesn't work. I used curl to retrieve the contents of the pages in HTTPS and it works, I have installed OpenSSL, so I can't see the problem, there is another way to do HTTPS connections with TCL?. I can't see if this is a problem of coding (maybe I'm registered wrong the https protocol) or maybe It is a bad configuration of my server. Hope somebody helps!! Thanks!

  • howto hide outline on a form

    i have to design a form with an input inside it. i use background image on the input so it would look like a button. so every time somebody click it, then it would send $POST, a behavior i want to achieve. But the problem is about the outline around the form. The outline show when we click the form. It's minor, but it would be great to make the form (or input) lost it outline. i test it using Firefox 3.6 and flock. Both of them show the outline behavior that i want to avoid

    I want to compute magnetic fields of some conductors using the biot-savart-law and I want to use a 1000x1000x1000 matrix. Before I use Matlab, but now I want to use Python. Is Python slower than Matlab? How can I make Python faster? EDIT: Maybe the best way is to compute the big array with c/c++ and then transfering them to python. I want to visualise then with VPython.     Hi, All! I have some Qt application with QPlainTextEdit in Tab widget. When try to make a pointer on it QPlainTextEdit *w = (QPlainTextEdit*)ui->tabWidget->widget(0) and call a document() method w->document() I get a segfault. But if i call document directly, e.g. ui-mainEdit-document(), then everything works fine. Can anybody explain me why it happens?

    I know the question is too open. All I want is someone to tell me how to convert a normal merge sort into an in-place merge sort (or a merge sort with constant extra space overhead). All I can find (on the net) is pages saying "it is too complex" or "out of scope of this text". "The only known ways to merge in-place (without any extra space) are too complex to be reduced to practical program." (from here) Even if it is too complex, can somebody outline the basic concept of how to make the merge sort in-place?

  • vshost.exe file in Release folder?

    Why there is a appname.vshost.exe file generated for the release version of my application? I might add that I'm using an external dll library and some unsafe code. What's even more interesting, my application launched from Release folder does not work correctly (it works OK when launched from Debug folder).
