  • How to get JDK 1.5 on Mac OSX

    - by Eric
    I've got to write some code for a legacy application that is still running JDK 1.5. Unfortunately, it looks like OSX doesn't actually have a 1.5 JDK installed, it just links to 1.6: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions $ ls -l lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5 Apr 26 11:53 1.3 -> 1.3.1 drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Feb 11 15:33 1.3.1 lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 10 Apr 26 11:53 1.4 -> CurrentJDK lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 10 Apr 26 11:53 1.4.2 -> CurrentJDK lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 10 Apr 26 11:53 1.5 -> CurrentJDK lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 10 Apr 26 11:53 1.5.0 -> CurrentJDK lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5 Apr 26 11:53 1.6 -> 1.6.0 drwxr-xr-x 7 root wheel 238 Apr 26 11:53 1.6.0 drwxr-xr-x 8 root wheel 272 Apr 26 11:53 A lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 1 Apr 26 11:53 Current -> A lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 3 Apr 26 11:53 CurrentJDK -> 1.6 It sounds like from http://developer.apple.com/java/faq/ that Java is part of the OS update...I'm on OSX-10.6.3. Anybody know of a way to get an actual 1.5 JDK installed on this OS version? Or do I need to try and find an old version of OSX before I can do this work?

  • Mac App Store Reviewer says "It appears Kiwi fails codesign verification"

    - by isaiah
But it clearly does not fail on my system. The Verification test in XCode during the submission should (I assume) test this. And running codesign on the command line of the archived app results in: /Users/iac/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Archived Applications/272860A0-961E-47E7-B62F-0F7D373D938A.apparchive/Kiwi.app: valid on disk /Users/iac/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Archived Applications/272860A0-961E-47E7-B62F-0F7D373D938A.apparchive/Kiwi.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement Anyone run into something like this before? • Mac OS X, Can't start/stop MySQL via System Preferences

    - by Steve Kuo
I downloaded and installed MySQL 5.1.47 for OS X 10.6 using the DMG archive: mysql-5.1.47-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg I also installed MySQL.prefPane and MySQLStartupItem.pkg. MySQL.prefPane is a Preference Pane. The problem is, whenever I attempt to start/stop MySQL from the Preference Pane, System Preferences just hangs. It runs at about 50% CPU forever, eventually I have for force quit System Preferences. The same thing happens if I toggle "Automatically Start MySQL Server on Startup". Basically the MySQL Preference Pane is not functional. Note that I have no problem starting MySQL from the command line: sudo /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe I have tried reinstalling MySQL and the Preference Pane. I'm using the standard installation location, nothing out of the ordinary. Every time the MySQL Preference Pane just hangs. I'm doing this on a Macbook Pro (Intel) running OS X 10.6.3. There are no old versions of MySQL on this machine.

  • Mac : Run Foundation Tool app as cronjob?

    - by Holli
This may not be completely programming related ... In Xcode I wrote a little Foundation Tool application for maintenance. Copy files from A to B , delete logs and so on. Now I want to run the application in background once a day or once an hour. How do I set this up? Can it be done with a Foundation Tool application or is there another Xcode project type for tasks like this?

  • Using PHP with the default Mac Apache + PHP installation

    - by Juan Medín
Hi, I'm starting to unravel the mysteries of PHP and I configured the pre-installed Snow Leopard PHP and activated the Apache server in the system preferences. So far so good: it works if you put a PHP file in your ~/Sites directory. Since I've my projects in a code/projects directory I created a symbolic link from the ~/Sites dir to the code/projects/one-project/php-dir and bang!, a 403 error: access forbidden. I've been changing the permissions of the dirs to 777, but no luck. Is anyone using the default Snow Leoapard configuration for PHP development and if so, how do you link to your codebase? Thanks in advance, Juan

  • How is your mac setup for windows development?

    - by Matt Brailsford
Hi Guys, I'm looking at buying a MacBook Pro to replace my tiring laptop. My day to day job is as a .NET web developer so I am looking to use VMWare Fusion to run VS and SQL server etc. As I've not run my dev environment in a VM before, I would like to know how others are setup. What apps to you have installed? In which environment? Where do you store your files? Within each environment, or some shared drive? Are there any gotchas? Or essentials I should know. Many thanks Matt

  • Best compiled language for Mac OS X and Linux compatibility

    - by corydoras
We need to write some software that will compile and run on both an Mac OS X server and Ubuntu. We would love to use Objective-C with all of its Cocoa goodness, however the GNUstep implementations of the parts we are using are broken (in the latest Ubuntu package anyway.) In light of this should we use C++ (I would really rather not), C or something else that we have not thought of? It is a server/back-end process that is very resource intensive, Java and other interpreted versions of this software perform much worse than the Objective-C proof of concept we have written, hence we now wish to re-write in a "compiled[1]" language. (NB: Some people might consider this subjective, however at the end of the day we do need to get a job done, there has to be a reasonably appropriate correct answer here). [1] Compiled to native CPU instructions, not compiled into "byte codes" that then have to be run by an interpreter.

  • On Mac, two jpg's whose color should match do not

    - by Tim
So I'm designing a myspace page and I have two images, one is a repeating bg image, and another is an image which loads on a layer above it, which acts as a header/masthead. For some reason, on Macs only, and only in the browser (tested in safari and ff), the masthead renders slightly darker than the repeating bg image, creating this color inconsistency. The block that extends up behind the album artwork is a solid box made with css which blocks some of myspace's standard content. It actually renders as the proper color, blending in well with the bottom portion of this image, which is the repeating part of the background, but becomes noticeable as it extends up, over the masthead, which is darker than it should be. Both images where created in GIMP and saved as jpg's using, as far as i can tell, the same settings. Here's the pic of what is going on: Screenshot - Click Me!!! Here is the code which controls this part of the design. <div class="masthead"><span></span></div> .masthead {width: 1600px; height: 1940px; background-image:url(http://www.sourtricks.com/myspace/bdww/myspace_bg09.jpg); position: absolute; margin-left: -800px; left: 50%; top: 0px; z-index: -1; overflow-x: hidden;} body.bodyContent{ margin: 0 !important; padding: 0 !important; background-color: 000000 !important; font-size: 1px; background-image: url(http://www.sourtricks.com/myspace/bdww/bg_repeat05.jpg); background-position: center bottom; _background-position: right bottom; background-attachment: scroll; background-repeat: repeat-y; z-index: -2; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: arial, sans-serif !important; } Any help would be much, much, much appreciated. Thanks for your time, Tim

My text editor of choice for PHP work is Panic's Coda. I've been going back to TextMate for ROR work, but was wondering if there were better options.

HelloWorld.java:1: class, interface, or enum expected public class HelloWorld ^ 1 error and... javac -cp . HelloWorld.java returns the same. echo $CLASSPATH just returns blank. Thanks for the help.
