• is there any programming language that can bring together edit and compile / run ???

- by Aff
When I code, I always write little pieces of unit, and compile it often. This helps me to make sure that everything run correctly, but it's very time consumed. is there any programming language that can support us to do coding and running at the same time side by side ? i mean as soon as a key press leads to valid code, the effect of the edit is incorporated into the executing program.

• Can a System Analyst come outside of programming?

- by WeNeedAnswers
Back in the day, if you wanted to be a Systems Analyst you had to work up the ranks from humble programmer. But these days there are University Courses/Programmes based on this topic alone. Is it thus valid for a graduate or post graduate to come into the world and just do systems analyst without doing the graft of being a programmer first, getting to know the nuances of what code is all about.

• echo "-e" doesn't print anything

- by wheleph
I'm using GNU bash, version 3.00.15(1)-release (x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu). And this command: echo "-e" doesn't print anything. I guess this is because "-e" is one of a valid options of echo command because echo "-n" and echo "-E" (the other two options) also produce empty strings. The question is how to escape the sequence "-e" for echo to get the natural output ("-e").

• g++ -fsyntax-only unit test

- by anon
I'm trying to figure out if g++ -fsyntax-only does only syntax checking or if it expands templates too. Thus, I ask stack overflow for help: is there to write a program so that syntactically it's valid, but when template expansion is done, an error occurs? Thanks!

• Authoritative Excel range syntax reference

- by olefevre
Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find it. I am looking for an authoritative description of all valid strings that can be used as a reference, e.g., "A1:C5", "$A:$A", $A2" etc etc. That seems a pretty basic thing yet I've wasted hours trying to locate it. All I can find is a swamp of "helpful" examples but no reference.

• .NET Efficient way to generate WORD Doc - Server Side

- by alexbf

Limitations : Server side I don't want to install word on the server Data source is XML I tried to generate a DOCX with XSLT which is fast and easy but the only way I could find to validate the generated document is to open it with Word and the only error I get when the document is not valid is "Error while opening document". Not very useful. Any ideas? Thanks, Alex

• NHibernate and MySql Keywords

- by jalchr
Why Nibernate HQL can not handle the following query: from Deal D where (D.ApprovalDate + INTERVAL 1 Year) < current_timestamp() < (D.RenewalDate + INTERVAL -1 Year) knowing that INTERVAL and YEAR are keywords in MySQL, so this is kind of mixing Sql within Hql (unless Hql can handle date functions like so and I don't know) . The dialect is MySQLDialect Its perfectly valid to execute this query SELECT '2005-01-01' + INTERVAL 1 Year;

• jQuery validation plugin addMethod firing incorrectly

- by LoganEtherton
I must be missing something obvious, but everything that I've tried for this is leaving me empty handed, so I'm a bit puzzled. I'm attempting to use the jQuery validation plugin with custom validation methods, but it seems to be hit or miss. It seems that I am able to successfully add rules to a certain extent, but some of the methods are not applied. Or the specified method is not applied, and the incorrect method is instead applied. So, for example, this works without a hitch: $.validator.addMethod("emailValidation", function(value, element) { return /^((([a-z]|\d|[!#\$%&'\*\+\-/=\?\^_`{\|}~]|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])+(\.([a-z]|\d|[!#\$%&'\*\+\-/=\?\^_`{\|}~]|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])+)*)|((\x22)((((\x20|\x09)*(\x0d\x0a))?(\x20|\x09)+)?(([\x01-\x08\x0b\x0c\x0e-\x1f\x7f]|\x21|[\x23-\x5b]|[\x5d-\x7e]|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])|(\\([\x01-\x09\x0b\x0c\x0d-\x7f]|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯]))))*(((\x20|\x09)*(\x0d\x0a))?(\x20|\x09)+)?(\x22)))@((([a-z]|\d|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])|(([a-z]|\d|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])([a-z]|\d|-|\.|_|~|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])*([a-z]|\d|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])))\.)+(([a-z]|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])|(([a-z]|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])([a-z]|\d|-|\.|_|~|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])*([a-z]|[ -퟿豈-﷏ﷰ-￯])))\.?$/.test(value); }, "Please enter a valid email address." ); $.validator.addMethod("password", function(value, element) { return /[^\s]{6,25}/.test(value); }, "Please enter a password between 6 and 25 characters long." ); ... $(function(){ $("#registrationForm").validate({ rules: { email: { required: true, emailValidation: true }, password: { required: true, password: true }, } }); }); Both the password validation and email validation work. But then I add, in the same exact manner, a validation test for names. So, right below where the password method ends, I add: $.validator.addMethod("name", function(value, element) { return /[^\s]{6,25}/.test(value); }, "Please enter a valid name." ); Which turns the validate call into: $(function(){ $("#registrationForm").validate({ rules: { email: { required: true, emailValidation: true }, password: { required: true, password: true }, studentFirstName: { name: true } } }); }); And suddenly, everything is only validating for names. Both the email and password fields now validate using the name method, as does the name field. This is confusing! I've added console.log calls to all methods, and indeed, it's not that one is being called after the other - the only one being called is name. I've checked and double checked that the element selection is good. I've checked that everything is groovy with the methods themselves. Any ideas?

• In gzip libary, what's the difference between 'uncompress' and 'gzopen' ?

- by Sol
There are some functions to decompress in zlib library(zlib version 1.2.3) I want to decompress my source zip(.gz) file using 'uncompress' function. It is now working(error code -3) but gzopen is. It is still not working when I input payload pointer(passing gzip header) to 'uncompress' . So the question is "What's the valid arguments for uncompress function?" and If it needs different format, how can I make it? Google doesn't helpful this time :(

• In elisp is there a difference between the regex [\\]documentclass and \\documentclass?

- by mcheema
I was playing around with the rx function for generating regular expressions from sexps in ELISP but couldn't figure out how to generate the regular expression "\\documentclass" for use in org-export-latex-classes: (rx "\\documentclass") (rx "" "documentclass") (rx (char "") "documentclass") Which when evaluated give respectively the following outputs: "\\\\documentclass" "\\\\documentclass" "[\\]documentclass" Is "\\documentclass" equivalent to "[\\]documentclass"?---I think it is, but am not sure. Can I generate the former using rx? Edit: Whilst the question was valid I realize my motivation was not; because org-export-latex-classes use strings not regular expressions.
