• What are some high quality Enterprise Architecture conferences or training programs?

  I am looking for a conference or training which will give me a broad exposure to enterprise level software architecture. I've been with the same company for 10 years and we've grown to the size where we really need to lay out a framework for the applications which support our company's business. The organic growth over the last 10 years has left us with a tightly coupled and fairly messy set of applications. We need to do a better job at componentizing our business entities and have more rigorous control on the interfaces between those entities and our business processes. I'm looking to get a broad, yet practical exposure on design patterns to support that architecture (SOA, messaging, ESB's etc). I'm hoping to gain insight from folks who have direct experience with implementing or working with what would be considered an enterprise class architecture.

  I have downloaded a set of icons to use for my web browser that I'm creating and would like to use. I know how to add the icons, but I only know the code for the refresh button. My question is what is the code for the back and forward arrows? It would also be so helpful if I would know the code for the home button and how to make the web browser manage downloads. • Problem with text deletion in vi editor

  When I am writing C code on the vi editor, I am not able to use the backspace keys or my arrow keys to delete or navigate through lines. Some unexpected special characters occur on the screen that is on middle of my code and I am not able to delete them also. If I use my delete key, the whole code gets deleted. I have tried both insert mode using 'i' and 'a'. I am able to manage this situation for C programming by using the text editors but when I am creating LeX and yacc programs, I find this awkward. Can you please help me with this?

  I work on a technology team that typically develops projects for a period of time, and then hands off to other groups for long-term maintenance and improvements. My team currently uses ad hoc methods of handing off documentations, such as diagrams, API references, etc. Is there a open source solution (or even proprietary one) that enables us to manage: Infrastructure/architecture/software diagrams API documentation Directory structures/file structures Overall documentation summaries in one place? So is it better to add all test methods in the same Ruby file, or I should put each one in separated code files? • My ubuntu with unity not loading after last reboot

  I have asus u36sd and after last reboot I can't start up my ubuntu 11.10. Usually I suspend my notebook by closing cover but today I reboot it and it not starting up. Booting flowing by normal till to login screen but if I move mouse cursor after that image immediately switch to console (without any error; only normal loading startup processes) and back to login screen. I can type my password and boot continuing loading but after few moment it again switch back to dark console and switch again to login screen. I can load recovery mode but if I try touch my cursor (by mouse or internal notebook touchpad) it again switch back to console and to login screen. But if I use only keyboard it work fine. Where I can see detailed log information about my problem?

  For testing, I am planning to run a continuous integration testing. There are mainly two options: hosted, or own desktop/server. I will break it into 3 options I have: Hosted: Economical, $10-20/month for a small app Less setup, the CI company manage all hardware and software Desktop: I could just buy a simple, cheap desktop as a test server (about $500). Used server: My current office is offloading some old Dell rack server (Probably dual core Xeon, which I can purchase for $50 or less Please advise me which best serves me for a small team of 2-3 developers. • Where to find algorithms work?

  The funnest parts of my projects have been the back-end algorithms work. I have worked on projects where I implemented Gaussian Mixture models, a Remez algorithm and a few Monte Carlo schemes. I loved figuring out how these processes worked and tuning them when they didn't. I recently graduated and my problem lies in the work I was able to find. The only jobs I have found, with my Electrical Engineering degree, are for writing user applications. Tasks such as fashioning web interfaces or front-ends for hardware devices. When I speak with potential employers about my interests they say they have no work of the sort. Where does one find work that involves implementing these kind of schemes?

• Lens showing only music after zeitgeist removal

  I can't get anything to show up in the Dash (lens?) other than music (no applications , no files) . This began when I removed zeitgeist. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but still not working. I've also installed unity-place-files and unity-place-applications as suggested elsewhere. Under processes that are running I don't see zeitgeist.. (the original reason I wiped it out was because it was sucking up CPU). Ubuntu 12.04 Thanks in advance.

• Fan very loud in Ubuntu 12.10

  I recently installed 12.10 on my Desktop PC, moving away from Windows 7. For some reason, the fan in my computer is making an enormous amount of noise (it is running at full speed constantly). Under Windows 7, the fan would slow itself down and run at an acceptable noise level. Now, it is nearly unbearable. Checked the processes, and none are taking up a huge load on the CPU. Please help as I really can't endure this noise, and I do not want to go back to Windows 7 on this box. Some specs: - Intel 2.26 duo core - ATI 4870 - 4GB - 650W power supply

  I manage a website. In order to lead the visitor to the latest post when entering the website, I set a 302 redirect from the homepage URL to the latest post URL. There's 1 to 2 posts a month so the redirection is made manually each time a new post gets published. Despite the website registration on google it doesn't get indexed at all. After searching for some solution on blogs and forums I understood this issue might be related to the 302 redirection. It's the first time I use redirections on a website, can someone help me?

• Recommended 2D Game Engine for prototyping

  What high-level game engine would you recommend to develop a 2D game prototype on windows? (or mac/linux if you wish) The kind of things I mean by "high-level" includes (but is definitely not limited to): not having to manage low-level stuff like screen buffers, graphics contexts having an API to draw geometric shapes well, I was going to omit it but I guess being based on an actual "high-level" language is a plus (automatic resource management and the existence a reasonable set of data structures in the standard library come to mind). It seems to me that Flash is the proverbial elephant in the room for this query but I'd very much like to see different answers based on all kinds of languages or SDKs.
