• Possibly hacked delicious account suddenly containing links to adult sites etc - is there an alternative for delicious

  I was searching for some academic publications I saved earlier on delicious. To my astonishment, there are a lot of tags and links in my account, that point to adult material from a Brazillian site (Portugeuse or Spanish), and lots of links to European sports site (in German or Dutch). Most of these links are public, and it seems my account has been hacked. I searched the delicious site to see if I could report the issue, and ofcourse there is no contact details. I've had just about enough with delicious (first, they changed their login system after being taken over - resulting in me losing over a year's worth of bookmarks), now this. Is there a replacement online bookmarking service someone can recommend?

• Finding a private (NAT) host's IP using historic destination data

  The issue: An unknown private (NAT) client is infected with malware and it's trying to access a Bot server at random times/dates. How we know about this: We receive bot traffic notices/alerts from REN-ISAC. Unfortunately, we don't receive those until the next day after it has happened. What they provide to us is: The source address (of the firewall) The destination addresses (it varies, but they're going to network subnet allocated to a German ISP) The source port (which varies--dynamic ports). Question: What would be the best approach to finding this internal host (historically) with a Cisco ASA as firewall? I'm guessing blocking anything to the destination address(es), and logging that type of traffic/access might allow me to find the source host, but I'm not sure which tool/command would be the most useful. I've seen Netflow thrown into a few responses when it comes to logging, but I'm confused with it's association of Logging, NAL, and nBAR, and how they relate to Netflow.

• Customizing the windows server 2008 RDP login screen possible?

  Hi, I'm working with RDP sessions quite frequently. As we work in teams and all use the same user account on a particular computer (I know...) I was wondering if there was a way to display from which computer (hostname, computername) the person is connecting. The login screen I get when two users are already connected looks like this (german): I'd love it, if the screen would display from where the logged in user is connecting e.g. "COMPUTER\user connected from MYCOMPUTERNAME". This way I would know whom to ask to disconnect so I can hop onto the session. If I remember correctly the login screen looked different for previous Windows versions including this connection information. Any way I can easily enable this or is this just standard windows behavior and there is no way to tell from where the user is connecting (btw: Task Manager shows the computername of the connected user).

• How to get started in the development industry? [closed]

  My life is coding. I was born in 1982 and my first computer was an amiga. I started learning Amiga BASIC. To cut a long story short, I know many things about several programming languages. Being unemployed(I achieved the german abitur, should be similar to a high school degree and I studied a few semesters of mechanical engineering in 2002(I learned JAVA back then)) I have no idea how to use this ability. I have never done commissional work, every task I solved was based on my own wishes and desires. I do not know how to write a FSD or PRD or put it into code. So the question is, why should anyone hire me? I specialized in kinect development but all jobs I applied for on odesk and similar were awarded to others without me knowing why. I don't know what I should do with my skills professionally. What do you suggest? As this board has weird rules, tell me where to find answers if this is the wrong place.

  I tried to switch from Java 5 to Java 6 using the "update-java-alternatives" command like explained on this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java But afterwards I get the following error when I tried to execute java: root@webserver:~# java Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I also tried to reinstall the java binaries using "apt-get" but I didn't succeed reinstalling it. I would like to post the "apt-get" errors, but unfortunately I don't know how to print out the error messages in English and not in German. My system is a Ubuntu 8.04 ROOT server.

• Solaris x86: Non working keys on keyboard (<, >, #, |)

  Hello everyone, I have a new installation of Solaris 10 10/09 on x86 hardware. The attached keyboard has a normal German layout. The system is configured accordingly by 'kbd -s'. The generic keys (letter, number, umlaut) work fine. Unfortunately some keys like <, , | or # do not. They produce no output on the text console at all. I tried PS/2 and USB keyboards. I cannot test it under X11 as it is currently not working. Thanks.

• XP Mode under Win 7 Professional: Windows Activation Update failure despite activated Windows

  I am trying to install Windows XP Mode from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx (the Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool has given me the green for proceeding) Even though my Windows has been activated a year or so ago, the download button leads me to a splash screen saying "Windows validation required". I am next forced to download a WindowsActivationUpdate.exe which, after downloading some mysterious "update", fails with the error message "Update installation failed, error information 0x80070002" (rough translation from German). I've tried running it both normally and as Administrator. What could be the problem?

• Disable spell checking in Internet Explorer 10 (Windows 8)

  I installed the release preview of Windows 8, which comes with Internet Explorer 10. IE10 has been endowed with a spell checking Feature, which is active while I write this text. As a matter of principle, I disable spell checking anywhere I go. I simply hate spell checking. I know better than the spell checker. (And when not it doesn't matter.) This is all the more annoying as I write in several languages and the spell checker only does one language (German, in this case), and then even in the new and wrong spelling, not in the old an true one. How can I disable this?

• HP ML150 G6 upgrading RAM/CPU beyond specs?

  I am being told that some limits on some HP servers can be crossed. Do any of you have any experience with that? A ML150/G6 is limited to 48GB RAM but I have been talking to a German company that guaranties me that this server will be able to be upgraded to 384GB RAM (using 32GB memory modules and 2 CPUs) http://www.compuram.de/en/memory,HP+%28-Compaq%29,Server,Proliant,ML150+G6.htm Can this really be true? The server that I have is using E5504 CPUs but will I be able to upgrade to any CPU that is using a LGA1366 socket? All from a low wattage L5640 all the way to the 6 core, high wattage versions like an X5650? (If cooling and power is adequate ofcause). • Oracle ADF and Simplified UI Apps: I18n Feng Shui on Display

  I demoed the Hebrew language version of Oracle Sales Cloud Release 8 live in Israel recently. The crowd was yet again wowed by the simplified UI (SUI). I’ve now spent some time playing around with most of the 23 language versions, or the NLS (Natural Language Support) versions as we’d call them, available in Release 8. Hebrew Oracle Sales Cloud Release 8 The simplified UI is built using 100% Oracle ADF. This framework is a great solution for developers to productively build tablet-first, mobility-driven apps for users who work and live using natural languages other than English. Oracle ADF’s internationalization (i18n) relies on built-in Java and Unicode,  packing in i18n goodness such as Bi-Di (or bi-directional) flipping of pages, locale-enabled resource bundles, date and time support, and so on. Comparing German (left) and Hebrew Bi-Di (right) page components in the simplified UI. Note the change in the direction of the arrows and positions of the text. So, developers who need to build global apps don’t have to do anything special when using Oracle ADF components, all thanks to the baked-in UX Feng Shui, as Grant Ronald of the ADF team would say to the UK Oracle User Group. • Acad 14 SOLIDS disappeared, DWG file doesn't open correctly

  I made a drawing in Autocad 14 (Win XP) containing of mostly SOLID's. I saved and re-opened it multiple times without any problem. Before I last saved it I viewed my drawing using the SHADE functions. After re-opening all my SOLIDS have disappeared. I spent numerous hours searching for a solution, tried SATFIX.ARX , AUDIT, RECOVER without success (ACIS error - which should be gone after applying SATFIX), changed my computer locale from German (decimal = comma) to English (decimal = dot) but my screen remains empty (and yes I tried to recover from a .BAK, too) I also tried to export (the non-display drawing) into DXF and can confirm that all my objects are in there, but re-opening the DXF results in a huge ACIS error list again I am desperate - please can someone help - thanks! • Can't copy Ilias-folder via FQDN, but via ip-address?

  I have an Ilias-Installation, which is available through two virtual hosts: the FQDN and the ip-address. The first server is ssl only, the second plain http. Both configuration files look the same except for the SSL-part: SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/ssl/ilias.pem In the Ilias-Webinterface, I can copy a folder on the plain http. But if I try to copy the same folder on the ssl virtual host, I get the notice, that the copy was started (rough german translation here), but the folder does not show up. There are no errors in the error-logs of php or the webserver and as said, no differences beside the ssl-part. The guys at an ilias-forum did not have an idea, either. Any ideas in here?

I need software that is simple to use and not-too-ugly looking. Ha. Aesthetics seem to matter to me when I'm learning...or, any reader that can display ANY popular ebook formats in parallel form will do! Win 7. IE 9. Freeware or not.

• Trouble with backup on SBS2008

  We have an SBS2008 installation, which has a backup task. It creates a backup twice a day onto external storage. This worked for a long time. But the backup can't be performed now. The last valid backup was before some Exchange updates, SBS Update Rollup 8 and SharePoint updates were installed. The only error in Event Logs is for VSS (the Volume Shadow Service), which I only have in German. Things I've done: restart the server chkdsk /r /f for all volumes restart the VSS service googling manual backup Nothing's helped. How can I set up the backup again?

• unable remove/reinstall libxss1:amd

  Whenever I try to install anything (software-center or apt-get) I get an error report stating that libxss1:amd is in a "very bad inconsistent state" (translated from german) and that I should reinstall it. That would not bother me much but I am never sure if the stuff I'm trying will be working in the end. It really resists from being repaired apt-get install, apt-get remove, apt-get -f install, and all the usual suspects - nothing works. It always comes to: dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von libxss1:amd64 (--configure): Paket ist in einem sehr schlechten inkonsistenten Zustand - Sie sollten es nochmal installieren, bevor Sie die Konfiguration versuchen. Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von: libxss1:amd64 E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I posted the error as is, since my translation might not be exact. But I guess you can figure from my text. I found out that this file is the X screen saver. Maybe I should kill it before handling that file. If thats so, than please tell me how.   My issue is similar to the one mentioned here: Disable spell checking in Internet Explorer 10 (Windows 8) I am using Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit What I've tried already: Deactivating the spelling options: From the following, borrowed screenshot from the old Windows 8 (my interface is German, therefore I couldn't create one myself), I have turned both options off and restarted IE. It's still "correcting" my texts. Searching for 'spelling correction' addons: The indicated option in the following borrowed screensnot does not exist on my PC. Is there any way of disabling it? I prefer a canonical solution if one is available. If not, I am also interested in registry hacks or other solutions.

• Dental adventures ...

  Today my dentist pulled all the stops. Really. Just to explain ... half a year ago or so, i got the base part of an dental implant in my jaw. Today i got the teeth ... beside other things. At first i made the acquaintance of a really weird instrument to remove a temporary tooth crown ... it's called "Hirtenstab" in german ... or "crown remover" in english ... i would call it tool of torture. After the fourth time using it, the temporary flew through the room and the final crowns were set on two teeth left and right of the implant. But the strangest instrument i saw was the instrument to fix the abatement (the thing between the crown and the screw thread implanted in the jaw). They really use a torque wrench (albeit a really small one) to screw the abatement into the jaw. Well .. at least i have a zirconium dioxide smile now ...

• Strange resolution on Ubuntu 11.10

  I only just installed Ubuntu 11.10, so excuse me if this question is silly ;-) I have a Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile V655, nvidia 8200 graphics, and recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 using wubi. I had to modify booting commands to include nomodeset; otherwise Ubuntu would not boot. Now I did set my screen resolution to 1280 x 720, which is the correct resolution for this screen. Still, the display seems imperfect. The font sizes seem unnatural(too large / stretched) and text is quite blurry (especially in Firefox). Could it have something to do withe the nvidia graphics driver and/or the nomodeset parameter? How can I fix this? Update: I used jockey-gtk to update nvidia to the current version. This improved the resolution dramatically (no blurriness, fonts are good). It also means that I no loger need to include nomodesetin the boot commands. However, other problems were brought up by this. It seems that certain files cannot be accessed - icon (images) are missing, some task bars are completely unstyled (grey, block-form, win97 style). I also get this error message(roughly translated from German, so may be slightly different from actual) every time I reboot: Could not apply the stored configuration for the monitor: none of the chosen modi is compatible with the available modi. I have tried nvidia-xconfig, unity --reset , no improvements. Can anyone help, please?

• SharePoint 2013 Developer Ramp-Up - Part 2

  As stated already yesterday, today I continued with the available course material on Pluralsight. For sure interesting topics in the second part of the series but not the field of operation I'm going to work in later. During the course you get a lot of information about how to create and deploy SharePoint Solutions and hosted SharePoint Apps. Today's resource(s) Apart from some blog articles I watched in the following course today: SharePoint 2013 Developer Ramp-Up - Part 2 - Developing SharePoint Solutions and Apps Not thrilling but still two solid hours to go. Takeaway One of the coolest aspects I figured out today is that SharePoint development can be done easily in JavaScript and C# - just as you like or prefer. It's actually pretty cool to see that you could integrate external JS libraries like datajs, knockout,js and so forth in order to implement your solution. And that you should be very familiar with Microsoft PowerShell. Not only to simplify some repetitive work but also to do be able to get things going in SharePoint. Having a decent background knowledge in Linux, I find this pretty amusing and remember the initial baby steps when PowerShell was introduced some years back (Note: German language). The outcry as well as the hype was too funny. Honestly, I have kind of mixed feelings about today's progress. Surely, there was interesting information about developing extensions directly for and in SharePoint... Hm, I'll leave that one for now and probably it might be helpful someday.

• Boot process enter an infinite loop after installing Ubuntu 11.04 together with Windos 7 and XP

  I have a new computer ACER Aspire X3960 which came with Widows 7 preinstalled. I made a new partition where I installed Windows XP and then I installed in new logical partitions (a Swap, a / and a /home partition) Ubuntu 11.04. At the end of the process, the computer enters the very first screen where it says "press DEL to enter BIOS setup, press F12 to enter BOOT options". After a few seconds, the screen goes blank, the computer beeps and then it presents the same screen again. It doesn't even ever go to the grub options of which operating system I want to start. It just loops there forever. I tried to fix the (eventually damaged) grub following these instructions (unfortunately in german) http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/GRUB_2/Reparatur from a LiveUSB, which I'm also using to post this question. • How can I install another locale for Firefox?

  I've installed FF 3.6.3 on a multi-user system with the German language; however I'ld like to have everything in English (interface, etc.) for my user without installing a separate version of FF in english. I've found the setting general.useragent.locale and an extesion, Quick locale switcher, but I don't actually understand where to get the locale from (en_US in my case, I guess). I found pointers directing me to the offical FTP release server with the hint to download the appropriate locale XPI, e.g. from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.3/win32/en-US/ , however there's none.

• As a programmer, what's the most valuable non-English (human) language to learn?

  I was thinking that with my developer skills, learning new languages like French, German etc. might be easier for me now. I could setup the verbs as objects in Python and use dir(verb) to find its methods, tenses and stuff ;-) But seriously, if you're a professional developer, in my case in the UK, what's the best foreign language to learn from an employment perspective? I'm thinking, like Hindi - if all our programming jobs are getting outsourced to India, might as well position yourself to be the on-site, go-between guy. Mandarin - if the Chinese become the pre-eminent economy, the new USA, in ten or twenty years, then speaking their language would open up a huge market to you. Russian - maybe another major up-and-comer, but already closer to Western standards. More IT-sector growth here than anywhere else in the coming years? Japanese - drivers of global technology, being able to speak their language could give you a big competitive advantage over other Westerners But I'm just guessing/musing with all these points. If you have an opinion, or even better, some evidence, I'd like to hear it. If the programming things falls through then at least it'll make for more interesting holidays.

  On my personal website, I have some technical ideas and some source code snippets that I share with everybody. To make it clean that everyone can use those snippets as they like, as long as I do not have to provide any warranty, I would like to add a license to the some of the texts. The bigger programs come with GPLv2+, which I think is a reasonable license for free code. Does it make sense to use the MIT License or the GNU Free Documentation License for these texts or should I just go with CC-BY? I am a German citizen, so I heard that the American licenses do not really apply to me at all. If so, that would be another advantage for the Creative Commons Family of License.
