  I was always told I was left brained and could not draw. And I bought into that view. Somewhere down the road years ago I did learn to play guitar and to play by ear at that.  Now that’s not all left brained so my right brain must be working.  About a year ago, my good friend Billy Hollis turned me own to a book by Betty Edwards (http://www.drawright.com/).  I started reading this and soon I found my self drawing on napkins in restaurants while we were waiting on food and at many other times too.  Dang’d if I could not draw! • how difficult to add vibration/feedback to a open source driving game

  Hi, I'm looking to use SuperTuxKart as a basis for a PhD research project. A key requirement for the game is to provide vibration feedback through the controller (obviously dependant on the controller itself). I don't believe that the game currently includes this feature and I'm trying to get a feel for how big a challenge it would be to add. My background is as a J2EE and PHP developer/architect, so I don't know C++ as such, but am prepared to give it a crack if there are resources and guides to assist, and it's not a herculean task. Alternatively, if you know of any open source games that do include vibration feedback, please feel free to let me know! Preferably the game would be of the style that the player had to navigate a character (or character's vehicle) over a repeatable course/map. TIA, JD

• Oracle UPK Content Development Tool Settings

  Oracle UPK Content Development tool settings: Before developing UPK content, your UPK Developer needs to be configured with certain standard settings to ensure the content will have a uniform look. To set the options: 1. Open the UPK Developer. 2. Click the Tools menu. 3. Click Options. After you configure the UPK Options, you can share these preferences with other content developers by exporting them to an .ops file. This is particularly useful in workgroup environments where multiple authors are working on the same content that requires consistent output regardless of who authored the content. (To learn more about Exporting/Importing Content Defaults refer to the Content Development.pdf guide that is delivered with the UPK Developer.) Here is a list of a few UPK Developer tool settings that Oracle UPK Content Developers use to develop UPK pre-built content: Screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768. See It mode frame delay is set to 5 seconds. Know It Required % is set to 70% and all three levels of remediation are selected. We opt to automatically record keyboard shortcuts. We use the default settings for the Bubble icon and Pointer position. Bubble color is yellow (Red = 255, Green = 255, Blue = 128). Bubble text is Verdana, Regular, 9 pt. ***Intro and end frame settings match the bubble settings Note: The Content Defaults String Input Settings will change based on which application (interface) you are recording against. For example here is a list of settings for different Oracle applications: • Agile - Microsoft Sans Serif, Regular, 8 • EBS - Microsoft Sans Serif, Regular, 10 • Hyperion - Microsoft Sans Serif, Regular, 8 • JDE E1 - Arial, Regular, 10 • PeopleSoft - Arial, Regular, 9 • Siebel - Arial, Regular, 8 Remember, it is recommended that you set the content defaults before you add documents and record content.   Pamatuji si, jak jsem pred pár lety sedel na konferenci Oracle Develop a sledoval svého ponekud známejšího kolegu Marka Townsenda ukazovat prostinké demo - jak se jedna a tatáž operace dá udelat bud velmi pomalu a nebo velmi rychle. Nešlo o klasické ladení SQL, ale efektivní volání techto dotazu. Jednotlivé techniky samy o sobe jsou pritom asi všem známé. Ohromilo mne ale hlavne to, jak velký rozdíl ve výkonu stejné operace provádené stejným jednoduchým SQL dotazem muže být. Ríkám si, že kdyby ten rozdíl videlo více lidí, možná by se casteji donutili napsat o ten jeden, dva rádky kódu více, aby byl kód treba i o rád efektivnejší a rychlejší. Pokusil jsem se udelat podobný príklad a na jeho základne vznikla trojice clánku, které postupne vycházely na server Databázový svet.Z nejakého duvodu se ale poslední díl nikdy nedockal publikace. Protože jsem od té doby párkrát narazil na potrebu odkázat nekoho na celou trojici clánku, rozhodl jsem se je re-publikovat na tomto blogu. Problém a rešení budu ukazovat v Jave, ale ve skutecnosti jde o postupy, které jsou platné at už voláte databázi odkudkoliv. Úkol je jednoduchý - vložit 100.000 záznamu do jednoduché tabulky. A postupne si ukážeme že ze základního nejpomalejšího rešení se nekolika jednoduchými kroky dostaneme na rešení, které bude 80x rychlejší.

On a pure usability front, that old school charm of the character-based green glow look 'n' feel could be easily done as a skin, personalizing an application for the user so that they feel comfortable with it. I have an Apple Mac Plus somewhere in my parents' house. I tried it out recently, and it actually booted, although all it was good for was playing the onboard games.
