  • How to use iPhone SDK Private APIs

    - by eagle
I haven't found a comprehensive list of the steps that are required to use a private API from the iPhone Library. In particular, I would like to know how to get header files, if they are even required, how to get it to compile (when I simply add the header, it complains that the functions aren't defined), and what resources one can use to learn about private APIs (e.g. from other user's experiences, such as http://iphonedevwiki.net/ which has a few). I've read in other places that people recommend using class-dump to get the headers. Are there any alternative methods? I've noticed that there are some repositories of iPhone Private SDKs, what are the most up to date resources you would recommend? Most of the previous questions about documentation of private APIs, have all linked to Erica Sadun's website, which doesn't seem to have documentation anymore (all the links on the left are crossed out). Please save the comments about not using private API's... I know of the biggest risks: App will get rejected by Apple. App will break in future updates to the OS. I'm talking about legitimate uses, such as: Private application use (e.g. for unit testing, or messing around to see what's possible)

  • Alternatives to weak linking in iPhone SDK?

    - by Moshe
I'm looking to make my app compatible with older versions of iPhone OS. I did see weak linking mentioned as an option. Can I use OS version detection code to avoid code blocks that the OS can't handle? (Say iAD?) if(OS >= 4.0){ //set up iADs using "NDA code"... } If yes, what goes in place of if(OS >= 4.0)?

  • iPhone SDK Push Notification

    - by Craig
I have setup push notifications in the apple developer panel and added the code to my application. It works fine on the phone using a development profile but if I use a distribution (ad-hoc) profile so that I can give it to a few users for testing it gives an error and crashes, the log gives the following error Code: Thu Jun 25 22:22:35 unknown SpringBoard[729] <Warning>: *** Assertion failure in -[SBRemoteNotificationServer registerApplication:forEnvironment:withTypes:], /SourceCache/SpringBoard/SpringBoard-919.5/SBRemoteNotificationServer.m:633 Thu Jun 25 22:22:35 unknown SpringBoard[729] <Error>: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'no connection found for environment production' I am using the following code in the app Code: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] registerForRemoteNotificationTypes:(UIRemoteNotificationTypeAlert | UIRemoteNotificationTypeBadge | UIRemoteNotificationTypeSound)]; The thing I don't understand is why it works perfectly using a development profile but with ad-hoc it crashes. Does anyone know what would cause this?, I've tried changing lots of things to try and find the issue but have found nothing.

  • Base64 en/decoding between xstream and iPhone SDK

    - by Matt McMinn
I am passing a byte array from a java server to an iPad client in XML. The server is using xstream to convert the byte array to XML with the EncodedByteArrayConverter, which should convert the array to Base 64. Using xstream, I can decode the xml back to the proper byte array in a java client, but in the iPad client, I'm getting an invalid length error. To do my decoding, I'm using the code at the bottom of this page. The length of the string is indeed not a multiple of 4, so there must be something strange with my string - although since xstream can decode it just fine, I'm guessing there's just something I need to to on the iPad side to get it to decode. I've tried cutting off padding at the end of the string to get it down to the right size, and that does allow the decoder to work, but I end up with JPG's that have invalid headers, and are not displayable. On the server side, I'm using the following code: Object rtrn = getByteArray(); XStream xstream = new XStream(); String xml = xstream.toXML(rtrn); On the client side, I'm calling the above decoder from the XML parsing callback like this: -(void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string { NSLog(@"Converting data; string length: %d", [string length]); //NSLog(@"%@", string); NSData *data = [Base64 decode:string]; NSLog(@"converted data length: %d", [data length]); } Any ideas what could be going wrong?

  • iPhone SDK: PushViewController not working

    - by iPhone Developer
    I am trying to create a basic navigation application with a header and detail screen. My problem is the detail screen is not working. The code below is for the opening the detail view and placing it on the nav stack. My problem is the detail screen is not being pushed and I'm not sure why? I have verified the method below is firing. Any ptr or links to examples appreciated. //this opens up a detail view -(void) tableView:(UITableView *)tb didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSLog(@"DETAIL VIEW....."); NSInteger index = [indexPath indexAtPosition:1]; Retailer *retailer = [self retailerAtIndex:index]; if(retailer) { NSLog(@"DETAIL VIEW helelelelekjekljklerj....."); Membership * newMem = [[Membership alloc] init]; [newMem setIssuerId:[retailer retailerId]]; MembershipViewController * mvc = [[MembershipViewController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; [mvc setSubject:newMem]; RootAppDelegate *appDelegate = (RootAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [appDelegate.landingRetailersNavController pushViewController:mvc animated:YES]; [mvc release]; [newMem release]; }

Hi all, In my application I'm inserting data using Coredata like this: GoodWork * newGoodwork = (GoodWork *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"GoodWork" inManagedObjectContext:self.managedObjectContext]; // Step 2: Set Properties [newGoodwork setEletitle:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", aGoodwork.eletitle]]; [newGoodwork setEletxt:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", aGoodwork.eletxt]]; [newGoodwork setSortId:[NSNumber numberWithInt:sortId]]; // Step 3: Save Object [self saveAction]; Everythinng is working fine but in saveAction which is: - (void)saveAction { NSError *error; if (![self.managedObjectContext save:&error]) { NSLog(@"Unresolved Core Data Save error %@, %@", error, [error userInfo]); exit(-1); } } My application is crashing after processing if condition. I'm not inserting all the fields in the entity "Goodwork". Can that be the reason? Thanx in advance.

    - by Harry
I have set up the user defaults to record a integer for a UISlider, the problem is that, if the user has only just installed the app then the integer is zero or NULL. Is there a way to detect if it = NULL with a integer? heres my code i have so far: -(void)awakeFromNib { NSUserDefaults *prefs = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; senset = [prefs integerForKey:@"senset"]; senset = sensitivity.value; } - (IBAction) setSens { senset = sensitivity.value; } - (IBAction) goBackopt { { NSUserDefaults *prefs = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [prefs setInteger:senset forKey:@"senset"]; [prefs synchronize]; } } senset is the integer. i have tried this code, and it sets it to 25 on the first time, but then if i try and overwrite it, it wont work and keeps setting it to 25. :( if ( [prefs integerForKey:@"senset"] == NULL ) { senset = 25; } Please help :P Harry

  • Taking video from video camera and displaying it with MPMoviePlayerController IPhone SDK

    - by Daniel
Has anyone tried taking a video from the camera and then using the video player provided to play it? When you take the video in portrait mode, sometimes the movie will play (when the player puts it in landscape mode) and when it puts it in portrait mode you cannot view the movie all you hear is sound, sometimes in landscape mode is flickers and does not play right, has anyone encountered this and found a way to fix it? My code to play the video looks like this: - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { NSURL *urls=[info objectForKey:@"UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL"] ; moviePlayer = [[MPMoviePlayerController alloc] initWithContentURL:[info urls]]; if (moviePlayer) { [moviePlayer play]; } } I checked settings on the docs nothing seems like it would fix this...Thanks

  • A simple way to implement pathfinding using bullet physics - iPhone SDK

    - by Dave
Hi, I have bullet physics set up and working on the iPhone but now I want to implement some sort of path finding with it. The problem is I have no idea where to start, the level is pretty simple just a lot of pillars that I want the 'bad guys' to navigate around to get to the player character. Do you have any suggestions or are there any tutorials you recommend for pathfinding using this on the iPhone?

  • Custom view in iPhone SDK gets placed incorrectly in realation to statusbar

    - by markqvist
(ragh, i'm apparently not allowed to post images, so i have included links to the images in this post instead of embedding them) Im writing an iPhone application based on the navigation controller template, but I am not loading the actual navigation controller as the first view in the window. I create a new view controller from a xib, and then add that as a subview, and then only push the navigation view as a modal when i need it. Here's my application: didFinishLaunching ... method in the application deleate RootViewController *rootViewController = (RootViewController *)[navigationController topViewController]; rootViewController.managedObjectContext = self.managedObjectContext; mainViewController = [[MainViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; mainViewController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [window addSubview:[mainViewController view]]; [[mainViewController view] setNeedsLayout]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; It works but the view is not properly aligned with the statusbar: http://img.exdev.dk/1.png When i click "my ambiances" and push the navigation controller view, and then dismiss it again, the layout is fine: same link as above, just replace the 1 with a 2. Sorry for the hassle, apparently I can also only post one link.... Here's the code I use for presenting/dismissing the navigationcontroller: -(void)pushMyAmbiences { [mainViewController presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:TRUE]; } -(void)returnToMainView { [mainViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; } Is there anything I'm missing here? Layout-wise? Something that needs to be set in the xib? In a vain attempt I tried calling setNeedsLayout on the view, no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • iPhone SDK / Objective C Syntax Question

    - by Koppo
To all, I was looking at the sample project from http://iphoneonrails.com/ and I saw they took the NSObject class and added methods to it for the SOAP calls. Their sample project can be downloaded from here http://iphoneonrails.com/downloads/objective_resource-1.01.zip. My question is related to my lack of knowledge on the following syntax as I haven't seen it yet in a iPhone project. There is a header file called NSObject+ObjectiveResource.h where they declare and change NSObject to have extra methods for this project. Is the "+ObjectiveResource.h" in the name there a special syntax or is that just the naming convention of the developers. Finally inside the class NSObject we have the following #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface NSObject (ObjectiveResource) // Response Formats typedef enum { XmlResponse = 0, JSONResponse, } ORSResponseFormat; // Resource configuration + (NSString *)getRemoteSite; + (void)setRemoteSite:(NSString*)siteURL; + (NSString *)getRemoteUser; + (void)setRemoteUser:(NSString *)user; + (NSString *)getRemotePassword; + (void)setRemotePassword:(NSString *)password; + (SEL)getRemoteParseDataMethod; + (void)setRemoteParseDataMethod:(SEL)parseMethod; + (SEL) getRemoteSerializeMethod; + (void) setRemoteSerializeMethod:(SEL)serializeMethod; + (NSString *)getRemoteProtocolExtension; + (void)setRemoteProtocolExtension:(NSString *)protocolExtension; + (void)setRemoteResponseType:(ORSResponseFormat) format; + (ORSResponseFormat)getRemoteResponseType; // Finders + (NSArray *)findAllRemote; + (NSArray *)findAllRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; + (id)findRemote:(NSString *)elementId; + (id)findRemote:(NSString *)elementId withResponse:(NSError **)aError; // URL construction accessors + (NSString *)getRemoteElementName; + (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionName; + (NSString *)getRemoteElementPath:(NSString *)elementId; + (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionPath; + (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionPathWithParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters; + (NSString *)populateRemotePath:(NSString *)path withParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters; // Instance-specific methods - (id)getRemoteId; - (void)setRemoteId:(id)orsId; - (NSString *)getRemoteClassIdName; - (BOOL)createRemote; - (BOOL)createRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)createRemoteWithParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters; - (BOOL)createRemoteWithParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters andResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)destroyRemote; - (BOOL)destroyRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)updateRemote; - (BOOL)updateRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)saveRemote; - (BOOL)saveRemoteWithResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)createRemoteAtPath:(NSString *)path withResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)updateRemoteAtPath:(NSString *)path withResponse:(NSError **)aError; - (BOOL)destroyRemoteAtPath:(NSString *)path withResponse:(NSError **)aError; // Instance helpers for getting at commonly used class-level values - (NSString *)getRemoteCollectionPath; - (NSString *)convertToRemoteExpectedType; //Equality test for remote enabled objects based on class name and remote id - (BOOL)isEqualToRemote:(id)anObject; - (NSUInteger)hashForRemote; @end What is the "ObjectiveResource" in the () mean for NSObject? What is that telling Xcode and the compiler about what is happening..? After that things look normal to me as they have various static and instance methods. I know that by doing this all user classes that inherit from NSObject now have all the extra methods for this project. My question is what is the parenthesis are doing after the NSObject. Is that referencing a header file, or is that letting the compiler know that this class is being over ridden. Thanks again and my apologies ahead of time if this is a dumb question but just trying to learn what I lack.

  • iPhone sdk, at dismissModalViewcontrollerAnimated, the parent change y origin coordinate

    - by DigitalVanilla
Hi guys, my first post here :) I'm having a small trouble with a small but boring problem. I have a view, with a NavigationController. I load in the NC a simple view. Inside this view there's abutton where I fire the presentModalView... in the main view, not on NC, but it's parent view: ABVIEW NC NEWVIEW new attach a presentModalView... on ABVIEW, so [abview present...]; No problem till now. When it's the time to dismiss, after the temporary window (let's calls it NOTES) disappear, my ABVIEW with all the subviews change Y position from 0 to 20, the same height of the status bar. I was looking everywhere and I'm sure it's a stupid thing, but I miss a bit of knowledge here and I have no idea where to find the solution. thanks in advance!

Hello everyone.. I need some help in using the NSURLCache to download a simple file. It would need to be saved in the Documents folder of the app. I have seen the URLCache example that apple presented, but I didn't find it useful since it was an image that was being shown. In addition there was some complex code on the modification date. I actually need something when the application opens it will begin the download process. Can someone guide me through just the download process of any file? Thanks Kevin

  • iPhone SDK background thread image loading problem

    - by retailevolved
I have created a grid view that displays six "cells" of content. In each cell, an image is loaded from the web. There are a multiple pages of this grid (the user moves through them by swiping up / down to see the next set of cells). Each cell has its own view controller. When these view controllers load, they use an ImageLoader class that I made to load and display an image. These view controllers implement an ImageLoaderDelegate that has a single method that gets called when the image is finished loading. ImageLoader does its work on a background thread and then simply notifies its delegate when it is done loading, passing the image to the delegate method. Trouble is that if the user moves on to the next page of grid content before the image has finished loading (releasing the GridCellViewControllers that use the ImageLoaders), the app crashes. I suspect that this is because along the line, an asynchronous method finishes and attempts to notify its delegate but can't because it's been released. Here's some code to give a better picture: GridCellViewController.m: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // ImageLoader _loader = [[ProductImageLoader alloc] init]; _loader.delegate = self; if(_boundObject) [_loader loadImageForProduct:_boundObject]; } //ImageLoaderDelegate method - (void) imageDidFinishLoading: (UIImage *)image { [_imgController setImage:image]; } ProductImageLoader.m - (void) loadImageForProduct: (Product *) product { // Get image on another thread [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(getImageForProductInBackground:) toTarget:self withObject:product]; } - (void) getImageForProductInBackground: (Product *) product { NSAutoreleasePool *tempPool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; HttpRequestLoader *tempLoader = [[HttpRequestLoader alloc] init]; NSURL *tempUrl = [product getImageUrl]; NSData *imageData = tempUrl ? [tempLoader loadSynchronousDataFromAddress:[tempUrl absoluteString]] : nil; UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:imageData]; [tempPool release]; if(delegate) [delegate imageDidFinishLoading:image]; } The app crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Disclaimer: The code has been slightly modified to focus on the issue at hand.
