  • Frontend Intertag Communication

    - by Matt
    Hey all, I've had a question that I've been wondering for a while. I'm making a templating system for front-ends where tags are interpretted (like Smarty). I was wondering if there is value in having the tags be able to communicate with the HTML document and other "Smartyish" tags. I was hoping that the community would have some thoughts on this situation. Benefits: More power (tags can tell other tags how to look) Better structure (smartyish tags behave and look just like html tags) Tags can manipulate any element on the page Drawbacks: Tags can manipulate any element on the page Tags can interfere with other tags Code time will increase

  • CSS RGBA border / background alpha double

    - by stockli
    I'm working on a website that has a lot of transparency involved, and I thought I would try to build it entirely in RGBA and then do fallbacks for IE. I need a "facebox" style border effect, where the outer border is rounded and is less opaque than the background of the box it surrounds. The last example from http://24ways.org/2009/working-with-rgba-colour seems to suggest that it's possible, but I can't seem to get it to work. When I try the following: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> <title>RGBA Test</title> <style type='text/css'> body { background: #000; color: #fff; } #container { width: 700px; margin: 0 auto; background: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.2); border: 10px solid rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.1); padding: 20px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id='container'> This should look like a facebox. </div> </body></html> It seems like the background "extends" underneath the border of the element, which causes the pixel values to get added together. Thus, when both the background and the border are semi-transparent, the border will ALWAYS be more opaque than the background of the element. This is exactly the opposite of what I am trying to achieve, but it seems like it should be possible based on the examples I've seen. I should also add that I can't use another element inside the container, because I'm also going to use a border-radius on the container to get rounded corners, and webkit squares the corners of the child elements if they have a background assigned, which would essentially mean a rounded outer border with square contents. Sorry I can't post an image of this... Apparently I don't have enough rep to post an image.

  • Using custom scrollbar on jquery lightbox

    - by Bhupi
    Hi, I need to use a custom scrollbar on jquery lightbox. My requirement is that when user clicks on a link then a popup appears and the popup contains 2 or 3 tabs, user can click on any tab to see it's content. In one of those tabs I need scrollbar to show huge content but the scrollbar should not be default it should be custom with any color. Currently I am using "JQuery's JScrollPane" plugin http://jscrollpane.kelvinluck.com to achieve the functionality, but this is not working on IE 6,7 and 8, mean scrollbar does not appear on IE. It works fine on Firefox and Chrome. Note: the same plugin works fine on IE also when I use it on page's element which is available while page load but not while the element is shown dynamically on lightbox. Thanks

  • Is there a way to TouchEndInside in Mobile Safari?

    - by Ken Sykora
    I'm trying to determine whether a users does a touchupinside in mobile safari for an iPhone web app. So far I've been unsuccessful. touchend event fires regardless of where the touchup event happens on the screen, and I can't seem to discern that the target has changed by anything in the event argument. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to capture a touchendinside (vs. touchendoutside) event using javascript? $('a.arrow').bind('touchend',function(e) { console.log($(e.srcElement)); //both of these always return the same element console.log($(e.toElement)); //both of these always return the same element });

  • Scaling an Image in GWT

    - by Daniel
    Changing the size of an Image Widget in GWT changes the size of the image element, but does not rescale the image on the screen. Therefore, the following will not work: Image image = new Image(myImageResource); image.setHeight(newHeight); image.setWidth(newWidth); image.setPixelSize(newWidth, newHeight); This is because GWT implements its Image widget by setting the background-image of the HTML <img... /> element as the image, using CSS. How does one get the actual image to resize?

  • Craft a JSONpath expression so that it retrieves only a specific value?

    - by Alex
    Hello, I have some JSON of which the following is a small sample: results": { "div": [ { "class": "sylEntry", "id": "sylOne", "div": [ { "class": "sT", "id": "sOT", "p": "Mon 11/17, Computer work time" }, { "class": "des", "id": "dOne", "p": "All classes Siebel 0218" } ] }, I would like to only retrieve the "p" content for the div element with class "sT". I would like to use a loop and doing something like this: var arrayOfResults = $.results..div.p does not work because I only want to retrieve the p value for the div element with class "sT". So how do I construct my JSONpath so that it will retrive the array of p elements that are contained within the divs class "sT". Thanks!!

  • Printing array with delimiters in Perl

    - by Mark B
    I have an array in Perl I want to print with space delimiters between each element, except every 10th element which should be newline delimited. There aren't any spaces in the elements if that matters. I've written a function to do it with for and a counter, but I wondered if there's a better/shorter/canonical Perl way, perhaps a special join syntax or similar. My function to illustrate: sub PrintArrayWithNewlines { my $counter = 0; my $newlineIndex = shift @_; foreach my $item (@_) { ++$counter; print "$item"; if($counter == $newlineIndex) { $counter = 0; print "\n"; } else { print " "; } } }

  • jQuery Ajax post with dynamic url

    - by morpheous
    I want to send an AJAX POST, but I want the url that the data is sent to, to be derived from the id of the element that was clicked. This is what I have so far: I have written a javascript function (get_my_url) that returns a url, depending on the element id that was passed to the function. The problem is, it is not clear how to bind the function (get_my_url) to the url param of the .ajax() method. jQuery('.elem1').click(function(){ jQuery.ajax({ async: false, type: 'POST', url: get_my_url(jQuery(this).attr('id')), data: 'id1=1', dataType: 'json', success: function(data){ msg = data.msg }, error: function(xrq, status, et){msg='Oops. An error occured!'} }); Does anyone know how to pass a function to the url param?

  • Word on HTML document point, using UIWebView, DOM and Javascript

    - by leolobato
    Hey guys, How can I figure out which word is at the point where the user tapped on a UIWebView? I am able to detect the CGPoint for the tap (subclassing UIWindow like this), and I can actually get the DOM element on that point using javascript. But I know very little of javascript and DOM to figure out how can I actually get which word the user tapped on. Is that possible? Here's what I have right now: int scrollPosition = [[webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:@"window.pageYOffset"] intValue]; NSString *js = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"document.elementFromPoint(%f, %f).tagName", point.x, point.y+scrollPosition]; NSString *value = [webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:js]; NSLog(@"element: %@", value);

  • CSS: semi-transparent background, but not text

    - by Stijn Sanders
    Is there a way in CSS to make the background of an element semi-transparent, but still have the text of the element non-transparent? (Without separating the text and background in two elements positioned over eachother.) I've tried <p style="position:absolute;background-color:green;filter:alpha(opacity=60);opacity:.6;"><span style="color:white;filter:alpha(opacity=100);opacity:1;">Hello world</span></p> But it looks like child elements are subjected to the opacity of their parent(s), so 'opacity:1' is still drawn as 'opacity:.6' from the parent.

  • how can I override an anonymous javascript function attached to an eventlistener?

    - by Sid
    I found that a website does somewhat sneaky things. When you hover over a link, it shows you the real URL. WHen you click on it, it uses the click/mousedown event to rewrite the URL. I want to override that behaviour in firefox, So I fired up firebug to see what it does. On a mouse click, it executes a function called window.tgs. Easy, I thought. I can override this function. My first attempt was to do get the element via getELementsByTagName(), and then element.removeEventListener("click",window.tgs, false); To my surprise, this did nothing. I tried redefining window.tgs window.tgs = function() { return true; }; that did not do anything either. I am not a JS expert. Your insights appreciated thanks Sid

  • How to read XML parent node tag value

    - by kaibuki
    HI Guys, I have a java code to read XML nodes, I want to add in the addition and want to read the parent node value also. my XML file sample is below: <breakfast_menu><food id=1><name> Belgian Waffles </name><price> $5.95 </price><description> two of our famous Belgian Waffles with plenty of real maple syrup </description><calories> 650 </calories></food><food id=2><name>Strawberry Belgian waffles</name><price>$7.95</price><description>light Belgian waffles covered with strawberries and whipped cream</description><calories>900</calories></food></breakfast_menu> and my code for parsing xml is : public static String getProductItem(String pid, String item) { try { url = new URL(""); urlConnection = url.openConnection(); } catch (MalformedURLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { } try { dBuilder = dbFactory.newDocumentBuilder(); } catch (ParserConfigurationException e) { } try { doc = dBuilder.parse(urlConnection.getInputStream()); } catch (SAXException e) { } catch (IOException e) { } doc.getDocumentElement().normalize(); NodeList nList = doc.getElementsByTagName("food"); for (int temp = 0; temp < nList.getLength(); temp++) { Node nNode = nList.item(temp); if (nNode.getNodeType() == Node.ELEMENT_NODE) { Element eElement = (Element) nNode; data = getTagValue(item, eElement); } } doc = null; dBuilder = null; return data; } private static String getTagValue(String sTag, Element eElement) { NodeList nlList = eElement.getElementsByTagName(sTag).item(0) .getChildNodes(); Node nValue = (Node) nlList.item(0); return nValue.getNodeValue(); } What I want to do is to read the "id" value of food, so if if I am searching for a food, it only checks those food nodes, whose id matched the food node id. thanks in advance. cheers.. kai

  • Why will show() only work for fields that are hidden using inline css?

    - by Chris
    I am hiding an element using inline css, like so: <span class="hidden-nojs" style="display:none">Some text</span> Next I use jQuery to show the element, like so: $(".hidden-nojs").show(); This works great. As soon as I remove the inline css and put display:none on the external css stylesheet for the hidden-nojs class, it stops working. This is what I wrote in the external stylesheet: .hidden-nojs { display: none; } I'm assuming that the external stylesheet loads after the jQuery has already run? This is somewhat annoying as I would like to hide multiple elements with css and would like to avoid using inline css. Why will show() only work for fields that are hidden using inline css? How can I fix this problem?

  • What is the correct method to load an XML file and re-write it as a CSV?

    - by codesmack
    I have a XML file that I want to load into an unknown object type. (I say unknown object type because I am not sure what direction to go) Once I have the data loaded I need to do some processing on certain elements that are now loaded into the new object. For sake of example, we can say that the xml file is full of elements named <car> and within the car element I need to process the <mileage> element. Then once this is all done I need to write the file as a CSV file. I would like to do this is the most direct way possible. (The less code the better) I am using VS 2008 C#

  • How to get width of a div in pixels using JQuery (IE)

    - by Casidiablo
    Hello there. At first glance it sounds easy... when using JQuery one can use the .width() method to retrieve the width of an element. The problem comes when the DIV element does not have its size in pixels but in words like 'auto' or 'inherit'. When I do this it works nice in Firefox and Chrome even if the size is specified in words: alert($('#id_div').css('width')); // these two sentences does not It returns something like: 96px. But, IE returns the word 'auto'. I need to know the size it has in pixels because I have to do some calculations with that number... so, I've been wondering how to solve this problem. How can I solve this issue? Thanks for reading.

  • Is it possible to create thread-safe collections without locks?

    - by Andrey
    This is pure just for interest question, any sort of questions are welcome. So is it possible to create thread-safe collections without any locks? By locks I mean any thread synchronization mechanisms, including Mutex, Semaphore, and even Interlocked, all of them. Is it possible at user level, without calling system functions? Ok, may be implementation is not effective, i am interested in theoretical possibility. If not what is the minimum means to do it? EDIT: Why immutable collections don't work. This of class Stack with methods Add that returns another Stack. Now here is program: Stack stack = new ...; ThreadedMethod() { loop { //Do the loop stack = stack.Add(element); } } this expression stack = stack.Add(element) is not atomic, and you can overwrite new stack from other thread. Thanks, Andrey

  • Help! How to get the event handler with IE Dom interfaces?

    - by usfree74
    Hey Gurus, I am working to use IE Dom interface to automate IE page access. I am trying to get all event handlers defined in a page. I am using IHTMLElement object now for this purpose. If the html page defines "onclick=xxx", element.onclick returns the click handler. However, if an event handler is defined in javascript, element.onclick simply returns NULL. What's the right way to get the event handler then? Thanks, xin Below is an example that uses javascript to define event handler. $(document).ready(function(){ $("a").click(function(event){ $(this).hide("slow"); alert("Thanks for visiting!"); window.location="http://cnn.com"; }); }); jQuery

  • jQuery: Trouble inserting DOM elements

    - by Rosarch
    I want to add a set of lists to the children of another DOM element: var req_subsets = $("#req_subsets"); $.each(subsets, function(index, subset) { var subset_list = $("<ul></ul>"); // add DOM elements to subset_list req_subsets.append(subset_list); }); However, only one DOM element is ever added. This makes me suspect that when I assign a new value to subset_list, the old one is overwritten. If that is the problem, how do I avoid it? If not, what else am I doing wrong? UPDATE: I changed something else, and I'm almost entirely certain that this is fixed.

  • Html5 - Callback when media is ready on iPad wont work

    - by Kap
    I'm trying to add a callback to a HTML5 audio element on an iPad. I added an eventlistener to the element, the myOtherThing() starts but there is no sound. If I pause and the play the sound again the audio starts. This works in chrome. Does anyone have an idea how I can do this? myAudioElement.src = "path_to_file"; addEventListener("canplay", function(){ myAudioElement.play(); myOtherThing.start(); }); SOLVED Just wanted to share my solution here, just in case someone else needs it. As far as I understand the iPad does not trigger any events without user interactions. So to be able to use "canply", "playing" and all the other events you need to use the built in media controller. Once you press play in that controller, the events gets triggered. After that you can use your custom interface.

  • How to force HtmlUnit to save page?

    - by booroondook
    Hello. I'm using HtmlUnit to click on a HtmlElement that triggers Javascript action: currentPage = ((HtmlElement) currentPage.getByXPath("//*[contains(@onclick, 'check();')]").get(0)).click(); The element is: <a href="#" onclick="check(); return false;"> The page returned is quite similar to the page, containing that element: same URL, mostly same HTML, but there are some minor differences in the HTML and HtmlUnit doesn't save the new page. I'm using HttpAnalyzer to sniff the traffic and I see that the Webclient correctly handles JS and send the right request. The response is also correct, but when I dump the contents of the currentPage to a file, I see that the actual page didn't change. How can I fix it?
