  • SQL Script to clear database tables.

    - by pencilslate
I have a need to take backup of a SQL Server Db with tons of data in it and import into another environment for updating and testing. Since, i am not interested in the data, i just want to recreate the schema on my other server. There is an option called 'Generate Script', but is throwing errors running them on the target server. Curious, if anyone attempted to write a SQL script that would run through all the tables in the db and clear the rows, thereby i could just create the schema backup as .bak file and restore it into another server.

  • Bash: Is it ok to use same input file as output of a piped command?

    - by Amro
Consider something like: cat file | command > file Is this good practice? Could this overwrite the input file as the same time as we are reading it, or is it always read first in memory then piped to second command? Obviously I can use temp files as intermediary step, but I'm just wondering.. t=$(mktemp) cat file | command > ${t} && mv ${t} file

  • Setting Global Variables in VBA

    - by dennis96411
I'm currently making an "OS" in PowerPoint and I need to know how to set global variables for the settings. I made a module called "Settings" containing: Public Sub Settings() Option Explicit Public UserName, UserIcon, Background, BrowserHomePage As String Public SetupComplete As Boolean SetupComplete = False UserName = "Administrator" UserIcon = Nothing Background = Nothing BrowserHomePage = Nothing 'Set the variables UserName.Text = UserName End Sub Now on the "log in" screen, I have a text box named "UserName". I then made a button just to test out the variables. The button does this: Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() UserName.Value = UserName End Sub The text box has no value when I click the button. I'm super new at VBA, and would like to know how to do this. Also, if anyone knows how to automatically execute codes when starting the PowerPoint, that would be fantastic.

  • KSH: Variables containing double quotes

    - by nitrobass24
I have a string called STRING1 that could contain double quotes. I am echoing the string through sed to pull out puntuation then sending to array to count certain words. The problem is I cannot echo variables through double quotes to sed. I am crawling our filesystems looking for files that use FTP commands. I grep each file for "FTP" STRING1=`grep -i ftp $filename` If you echo $STRING1 this is the output (just one example) myserver> echo "Your file `basename $1` is too large to e-mail. You must ftp the file to BMC tech support. \c" echo "Then, ftp it to ftp.bmc.com with the user name 'anonymous.' \c" echo "When the ftp is successful, notify technical support by phone (800-537-1813) or by e-mail ([email protected].)" Then I have this code STRING2=`echo $STRING1|sed 's/[^a-zA-Z0-9]/ /g'` I have tried double quoting $STRING1 like STRING2=`echo "$STRING1"|sed 's/[^a-zA-Z0-9]/ /g'` But that does not work. Single Qoutes, just sends $STRING1 as the string to sed...so that did not work. What else can I do here?

  • Calling a WPF Application and modify exposed properties?

    - by Justin
I have a WPF Keyboard Application, it is developed in such a way that an application could call it and modify its properties to adapt the Keyboard to do what it needs to. Right now I have a file *.Keys.Set which tells the application (on open) to style itself according to that new style. I know this file could be passed as a command line argument into the application. That would not be a problem. My concern is, is there a way via a managed environment to change the properties of the executable as long as they are exposed properly, an example: 'Creates a new instance of the Keyboard Application Dim e_key as new WpfApplication("C:\egt\components\keyboard.exe") 'Sets the style path e_key.SetStylePath("c:\users\joe\apps\me\default.keys.set") e_key.Refresh() 'Applies the style e_key.HideMenu() 'Hides the menu e_key.ShowDeck("PIN") 'Shows the custom "deck" of keyboard keys the developer 'Created in the style application. ''work with events and response 'Clear the instance from memory e_key.close e_key.dispose e_key = nothing This would allow my application to become easily accessible to other Touch Screen Application Developers, allowing them to use my keyboard and keep the functionality they need. It seems like it might be possible because (name of executable).application shows all the exposed functions, properties, and values. I just have never done this before. Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

  • Perl CGI script to not wait for a subprocess to complete

    - by Tyug
Is it possible to continue displaying a CGI script's HTML without waiting for a child process to complete, yet the child process should stay alive when the CGI script is complete. Here's what I have, -- Display HTML page # html page set up... so header/other stuff #the -c, -h are params are just params system("perl subprocess.pm -c params -h 1 &"); #actually print the html page setup ... For some weird reason, it waits for the subprocess to finish before it outputs the html page even though I included the asynchronous system call for linux. It doesn't render the page immediately. Is it possible to print the html page without waiting for the subprocess to finish?

  • Bash script with regex not behaving on Ubuntu

    - by user265330
I have a Bash script that is working on my OpenSuSE box, but when copied across to my Ubuntu box, is not working. The script reads in from a file. The file has fields separated by white space (tabs and spaces). #!/bin/bash function test1() { while read LINE do if [[ $LINE =~ "^$" || $LINE =~ "^#.*" ]] ; then continue; fi set -- $LINE local field1=$1 local field2=$2 done < test.file } test1 with test.file containing: # Field1Header Field2Header abcdef A-2 ghijkl B-3 There seem to be two problems: (1) $field2, the one with the hyphen, is blank (2) The regex to strip out the blank lines and lines that start with # is not working Anyone know what's wrong? As I said, it works fine on OpenSuSE. Thanks, Paul

  • Performance problems when loading local JSON via <script> elements in IE8

    - by Jens Bannmann
I have a web page with some JS scripts that needs to work locally, e.g. from hard disk or a CD-ROM. The scripts load JSON data from files by inserting <script> tags. This worked fine in IE6, but now in IE8 it takes an enormous amount of time: it went from "instantly" to 3-10 seconds. The main data file is 45KB large. How can I solve this? I would switch from <script> tags to another method of loading JSON (ideally involving the new native JSON parser), but it seems locally loaded content cannot access the XMLHttpRequest object. Any ideas?

  • script to dynamically fix ophaned users after db restore

    - by JJgates
After performing a database restore, I want to run a dynamic script to fix ophaned users. My script below loops through all users that are displayed after executing sp_change_users_login 'report' and apply "alter user [username] with login = [username]" to fix SID conflicts verses static go statements. Although, I'm getting an "incorrect syntax error on line 15." can't figure out why... DECLARE @Username varchar(100), @cmd varchar(100) DECLARE userLogin_cursor CURSOR FAST_FORWARD FOR SELECT UserName = name FROM sysusers WHERE issqluser = 1 and (sid IS NOT NULL AND sid <> 0×0) AND suser_sname(sid) IS NULL ORDER BY name FOR READ ONLY OPEN userLogin_cursor FETCH NEXT FROM userLogin_cursor INTO @Username WHILE @@fetch_status = 0 BEGIN SET @cmd = ‘ALTER USER ‘+@username+‘ WITH LOGIN ‘+@username EXECUTE(@cmd) FETCH NEXT FROM userLogin_cursor INTO @Username END CLOSE userLogin_cursor DEALLOCATE userLogin_cursor

  • Selectively parsing log files using Java

    - by GPX
I have to parse a big bunch of log files, which are in the following format. SOME SQL STATEMENT/QUERY DB20000I The SQL command completed successfully. SOME OTHER SQL STATEMENT/QUERY DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a valid Command Line Processor command. EDIT 1: The first 3 lines (including a blank line) indicate an SQL statement executed successfully, while the next three show the statement and the exception it caused. darioo's reply below, suggesting the use of grep instead of Java, works beautifully for a single line SQL statement. EDIT 2: However, the SQL statement/query might not be a single line, necessarily. Sometimes it is a big CREATE PROCEDURE...END PROCEDURE block. Can this problem be overcome using only Unix commands too? Now I need to parse through the entire log file and pick all occurrences of the pair of (SQL statement + error) and write them in a separate file. Please show me how to do this!

  • How do I rename a process on Linux?

    - by jemfinch
I'm using Python, for what it's worth, but will accept answers in any applicable language. I've tried writing to /proc/$pid/cmdline, but that's a readonly file. I've tried assigning a new string to sys.argv[0], but that has no perceptible impact. Are there any other possibilities? My program is executing processes via os.system (equivalent to system(3)) so a general, *NIX-based solution using an additional spawning process would be fine.

  • Unexpected variable update when using bash's $(( )) operator for arithmetic

    - by philo
I'm trying to trim a few lines from a file. I know exactly how many lines to remove (say, 2 from the top), but not how many total lines are in the file. So I tried this straightforward solution: $ wc -l $FILENAME 119559 my_filename.txt $ LINES=$(wc -l $FILENAME | awk '{print $1}') $ tail -n $(($LINES - 2)) $FILENAME > $OUTPUT_FILE The output is fine, but what happened to LINES?? $ wc -l $OUTPUT_FILE 119557 my_output_file.txt $ echo $LINES 107 Hoping someone can help me understand what's going on.

    - by thaold
Hi, how to replace strings in file, based on values from another file. Example, 2 files - input, output input: 12345 1 output: (1,'a lot of text', 'some other info',0,null, 12345), (2,'a lot of text', 'some other info',0,null, 12345), (3,'a lot of text', 'some other info',0,null, 12345), (4,'a lot of text', 'some other info',0,null, 12345), (5,'a lot of text', 'some other info',0,null, 12345); Needs to be done: read values from file 'input', and replace all '12345' with '1' in file 'output'. Thanks for help in advance

  • OSX launchctl programmatically as root

    - by Lukas1
I'm trying to start samba service using launchctl from OSX app as root, but I get error status -60031. I can run without problems the command in Terminal: sudo launchctl load -F /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist` In the objective-c code, I'm using (I know it's deprecated, but that really shouldn't be the issue here) AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges method. Here's the code: NSString *command = @"launchctl"; // Conversion of NSArray args to char** args here (not relevant part of the code) OSStatus authStatus = AuthorizationCreate(NULL, kAuthorizationEmptyEnvironment, kAuthorizationFlagDefaults, &_authRef); if (authStatus != errAuthorizationSuccess) { NSLog(@"Failed to create application authorization: %d", (int)authStatus); return; } FILE* pipe = NULL; AuthorizationFlags flags = kAuthorizationFlagDefaults; AuthorizationItem right = {kAuthorizationRightExecute, 0, NULL, 0}; AuthorizationRights rights = {1, &right}; // Call AuthorizationCopyRights to determine or extend the allowable rights. OSStatus stat = AuthorizationCopyRights(_authRef, &rights, NULL, flags, NULL); if (stat != errAuthorizationSuccess) { NSLog(@"Copy Rights Unsuccessful: %d", (int)stat); return; } OSStatus status = AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges(_authRef, command.UTF8String, flags, args, &pipe); if (status != errAuthorizationSuccess) { NSLog(@"Error executing command %@ with status %d", command, status); } else { // some other stuff } I have also tried using different flags then kAuthorizationFlagDefaults, but that led to either the same problem or error code -60011 - invalid flags. What am I doing wrong here, please?

  • BASH: Checking for environment variables

    - by Hamza
Hi folks, I am trying to check the value of an environment variable and depending on the value do certain things and it works fine as long as the variable is set. When it isn't though I get a whole bunch of errors (as BASH is trying to compare the string I specify with an undefined variable, I guess) I tried implementing an extra check to prevent it happening but no luck. The block of code I am using is: #!/bin/bash if [ -n $TESTVAR ] then if [ $TESTVAR == "x" ] then echo "foo" exit elif [ $TESTVAR == "y" ] then echo "bar" exit else echo "baz" exit fi else echo -e "TESTVAR not set\n" fi And this the output: $ export TESTVAR=x $ ./testenv.sh foo $ export TESTVAR=y $ ./testenv.sh bar $ export TESTVAR=q $ ./testenv.sh baz $ unset TESTVAR $ ./testenv.sh ./testenv.sh: line 5: [: ==: unary operator expected ./testenv.sh: line 9: [: ==: unary operator expected baz My question is, shouldn't 'unset TESTVAR' nullify it? It doesn't seem to be the case... Thanks.
