  • Parralelization in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

    We have a specific accounting and production software, called 1C, which uses single user connection to the MS SQL 2008 R2 database. And there are about 500 users connecting to 1C server to perform their tasks. 1C and SQL 2008 are on separate servers. How to configure MS SQL 2008 R2 to effectively use parallelization in this configuration? We have 24 cores, and only one is loaded at 100% at MS SQL 2008 R2 server.   • To store images in SQL or not?

    Generally, I had thought it was always better to store images in the filesystem and link to it via the database entry. However, I am trying to optimize my db design and am having a few questions. My images are all really small thumbmails in black and white (not greyscale, but true B&W) and are 70x70 in size. If we take the images (which is basically a 2D array of 1 and 0), it can be stored as binary data that would be approximately 600 bytes each. So my question is whether querying the 600 bytes stored in a db would be faster than querying a link followed by accessing the filesystem; assuming there are a lot of "image" queries being made. Does anyone have any experience with this area? If it matters, I am using MySQL, and MonetDB (separately, but have the same question for both). Many thanks, Brett

  • SQL Query problem: How to merge two lists.

    I have a base table of Participants and Answers, with the following structure: ParticipantId, BusUnitId, QuestionNum, Answer. In this table, QuestionNum ranges, say, from 1 to 6. I also have two other tables that sort of link QuestionNum to the actual question table, BusUnitQuestions, and ParticipantQuestions. For each QuestionNum, I must get the actual question text, based on QuestionId. BusUnitId, QuestionId ParticipantId, QuestionId Now assuming records with QuestionNum from 1 to 6. BusUnitQuestions has 3 records, so QuestionNum 1 to 3 must join to Question on the QuestionId's from BusUnitQuestions, and QuestionNum 4 to 6 must join to Question on the QuestionId's from ParticipantQuestions. I assume I need to use ROW_NUMBER() in the subquery from BusUnitQuestions to join to my answer table, but I'm lost after that. If anyone at all understands me, do you have any suggestions?

  • Cannot render images locally with Sql Server 2005 Report Services SOAP service calls

    I am trying to render images from SSRS 2005 via the SOAP call. When the reports service is installed on the same server as my website, the images generated do not render in the page. However, when I connect to the reporting service URL from the same web code on a separate machine the images render just fine. Is there a dependency that I am missing to allow me to run the web and SSRS on the same box?

  • Advice on optimzing speed for a Stored Procedure that uses Views

    Based on a previous question and with a lot of help from Damir Sudarevic (thanks) I have the following sql code which works great but is very slow. Can anyone suggest how I can speed this up and optimise for speed. I am now using SQL Server Express 2008 (not 2005 as per my original question). What this code does is retrieves parameters and their associated values from several tables and rotates the table in a form that can be easily compared. Its great for one of two rows of data but now I am testing with 100 rows and to run GetJobParameters takes over 7 minutes to complete?     When using ANT to build my Java application I keep getting this error. I have tried multiple times to use SQLJDBC.JAR and SQLJDBC4.JAR but continually receive this error message. I am completely stumpped why this error is received even after upgrading to sqljdbc4.jar. [javadoc] java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6 is not supported by this driver. Use the sqljdbc4.jar class library, which provides support for JDBC 4.0.

  • Massive SQL issue shutting down our site.

    Our website has started timing out like crazy today. All of our clients are finding it unusable. The only error we can seem to trace down as a potential problem is this: SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_DBC failed Error ASP Description Error Category Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers I have no idea what it means or how to go about fixing it. Anyone ever encountered this error before? Currently, you can log in to our site, but then once you go to do anything else, you find yourself logged out or nothing happens. We have a lot of Ajax going on so the "nothing happens" probably has to do with the Ajax pages not loading properly due to logouts and so nothing displays to the user. Like I said, I'm at a loss. Anyone have any advice on this error?

  • Linq2sql code generator misbehaving

    Sometime the linq2sql just makes its mind up about things. I've been pulling my hair for the past hours trying to work out what I'm doing differently from all the other times when I don't get ForeignKeyReferenceAlreadyHasValueException. Turns out that if (this._Activity.HasLoadedOrAssignedValue) { throw new System.Data.Linq.ForeignKeyReferenceAlreadyHasValueException(); } is present on my primary key in this particular table, and in no other. No matter what I do with the association, I've even tried deleting and dragging the thing back to the designer, it's still there and I'm sure it's not supposed to be. I know why, of course, but I don't know why, so to speak. A while back the association went the other way. Whereas I've left that era behind me, the code generator seems to exhibit phantom pains. The same phenomenon, is responsible for me having to change the namespace in the designer.cs everytime I make changes in the designer. I made the mistake of renaming my namespace and the code generator just doesn't get it. Somebody please help this poor boy out.

    This is a really silly question probably, I'm working on a database and what I want to do is create a table with an ID (auto increment) and another column: "Number" (I realize it sounds useless but bare with me here please), and I need to fill this "Number" column with values from 1 to 180, each time adding 1 to the previous. What would be a clever "automatic" way of doing that?
