  Here is some sample code that inserts a record into a db table: Dim ds As DataSet = New DataSet() da.Fill(ds, "Shippers") Dim RowDatos As DataRow RowDatos = ds.Tables("Shippers").NewRow RowDatos.Item("CompanyName") = "Serpost Peru" RowDatos.Item("Phone") = "(511) 555-5555" ds.Tables("Shippers").Rows.Add(RowDatos) Dim custCB As SqlCommandBuilder = New SqlCommandBuilder(da) da.Update(ds, "Shippers") It inserts a row in the Shippers Table, the ShippersID is a Indentity value. My question is how can i retrieve the Identity value generated when the new row is inserted in the Shippers table. I have done several web searches and the sources I've seen on the net don't answer it speccifically or go on to talk about stored procedures. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

• C# wrapper for objects

  I'm looking for a way to create a generic wrapper for any object. The wrapper object will behave just like the class it wraps, but will be able to have more properties, variable, methods etc., for e.g. object counting, caching etc. Say the wrapper class be called Wrapper, and the class to be wrapped be called Square and has the constructor Square(double edge_len) and the properties/methods EdgeLength and Area, I would like to use it as follows: Wrapper<Square> mySquare = new Wrapper<Square>(2.5); /* or */ new Square(2.5); Console.Write("Edge {0} -> Area {1}", mySquare.EdgeLength, mySquare.Area); Obviously I can create such a wrapper class for each class I want to wrap, but I'm looking for a general solution, i.e. Wrapper<T> which can handle both primitive and compound types (although in my current situation I would be happy with just wrapping my own classes).   Hi I have a immutable Customer class in my domain assembly. It contains the following GET properties : id, firstname and lastname. I have a CustomerRepository class in my persistence assembly. In turn, this CustomerRepository class should populate and return a Customer object using a remote web-serivce. My Customer class contains no setter properties and it contains a private constructor. The reason - I dont want the UI developer to get the wrong idea - He should not be able to create or change a Customer object. My question: How do I get my CustomerRepository to populate my Customer object. Reflection? Or should I sacrifice my design and enable a public constructor for constructing the customer object?

  I have a SQL 2008 table with a field called RecDate of type DateTimeOffset. For a given record the value is '2010-04-01 17:19:23.62 -05:00' In C# I create a DataTable and fill it with the results of "SELECT RecDate FROM MyTable". I need to get the milliseconds, but if I do the following the milliseconds are always 0: DateTimeOffset dto = DateTimeOffset.Parse(dt.Rows[0][0].ToString()); What is the proper way to get the value in the RecDate column into the dto variable?   Suppose I have a class A, and A1, A2 inherits from A. There are 2 functions: List<A1> getListA1(){...} List<A2> getListA2(){...} Now I want to do something similar to both A1 and A2 in another function public void process(List<A>){...} If I want to pass the instance of either ListA1 or ListA2, of course the types doesn't match because the compiler doesn't allow the coercion from List< A1 to List< A. I can't do something like this: List<A1> listA1 = getListA1(); List<A> newList = (List<A>)listA1; //this is not allowed. So what is the best approach to the process()? Is there any way to do it in a universal way rather than write the similar code to both List and List?

  Hello all, for the last couple of weeks I've finally gotten into Obj-C from regular C and have started my first app. I've watched tutorials and read through a book along with a lot of webpages, but I know I've only just begun. Anyway, for most of the night and this morning, I've been trying to get this code to work, and now that it will compile, I have a few warnings. I've searched and found similar problems with solutions, but still no dice. What I'm trying to do is put an array made from a txt document into the popup list in a combo box. My only problem is I want the new record at the TOP of the list, not the bottom. Is there an elegant and easy way to do this, or am I going to have to do the new element separately, or loop through the list manually?

Any pointers on how I can do this without using HQL?

• Best approach for using Scanner Objects in Java?

  Although I'm more of a C++/ASM guy, I have to work with java as a part of my undergrad course at college. Our teacher taught us input using Scanner(System.in), and told us that if multiple functions are were taking user input, it would be advisable that a single Scanner object is passed around so as to reduce chances of the input stream getting screwed up. Now using this approach has gotten me into a situation where I'm trying to use a Scanner.nextLine(), and this statement does not wait for user input. It just moves on to the following statement. I figured there may be some residual cr/lf or other characters in the Scanner that might not have been retrieved are causing the problem. Here is the code. while(lineScanner.hasNext()) { if(isPlaceHolder(temp = lineScanner.next())) { temp = temp.replace("<",""); temp = temp.replace(">", ""); System.out.print("Enter "+aOrA(temp.charAt(0)) +" " +temp + " : "); temp = consoleInput.nextLine(); } outputFileStream.print(temp + " "); } All of the code is inside a function which receives a Scanner object consoleInput. Ok, so what happens when i run it is that when the program enters the if() the first time, It carries out theSystem.out.print, does not wait for user input, and moves on to the second time that it enters the 'if' block. This time, it takes the input and the rest of the program operates normally. What is even more surprising is that when i check the output file created by the program, it is perfect, just as i want to be. Almost as if the first time input using the scanner is correct. I have solved this problem by creating a new system.in Scanner in the function itself, instead of receiving the Scanner object as a parameter. But I am still very curious to know what the hell is happening and why it couldn't be solved using a simple Scanner.reset(). Would it be better to just simply create a Scanner Object for each function? Thanks, Devjeet PS. Although I know how to take input using fileinputstreams and the like, we are not supposed to use it with the homework.

• formatting a column based on another columns cell TEXT not value in excel

  I have dates that are running off a formula in that column based on information it is collecting from other worksheets. I have another column that lists text answers based on a different formula that that column is running. It is a customer list that runs with names going down page and multiple columns of information for each client running across page What i want to do is: If column j says "paid" then turn column m - same row - a color or border or something I will repeat this formula for the various things that j can say, just cant figure out how to make conditional formatting read j to change m. To complicate things, in addition to the formula running to collect the date in m, there is also a conditional format set up for m that changes the color of the cells after a certain date. I want to be able to keep that formula, in addition to the one that you are assisting with...i will use highlighting, or something different to avoid any conflicts.

• Unit testing with serialization mock objects in C++

  Greetings, I'm fairly new to TDD and ran across a unit test that I'm not entirely sure how to address. Basically, I'm testing a couple of legacy class methods which read/write a binary stream to a file. The class functions take a serializable object as a parameter, which handles the actual reading/writing to the file. For testing this, I was thinking that I would need a serialization mock object that I would pass to this function. My initial thought was to have the mock object hold onto a (char*) which would dynamically allocate memory and memcpy the data. However, it seems like the mock object might be doing too much work, and might be beyond the scope of this particular test. Is my initial approach correct, or can anyone think of another way of correctly testing this? Thanks!

  Lets say I have domain model with Automobile and Wheels. Wheels is a List of Wheels Wheels has a many-to-one relationship to Automobile. If I get an object back from Hibernate and it has 4 wheels. I take that object remove the 4 wheels and add 4. And then Save. If I ask Hibernate for the object again and it returns an auto with 8 wheels... what are we doing wrong?   this should be a really easy one but i can't seem to find an easy way. For example, in powershell and am using a CSV file, which is then used to look up some configuration data based on an ID. Here is what I have now, it works, but there has got to be a better way. $configList = import-csv "C:\myconfig.csv" $id = "5001" $configList | where-object {$_.id -eq $id} | foreach-object{ $configData = $_.configData} If use format-table etc, I always get the column header, which I would then have to cut off. Again, this has got to be really easy and this isn't a show stopper. But there has to be a better way to get just the data out of a table without the column header.

  I have a function that takes optional arguments as name/value pairs. function example(varargin) % Lots of set up stuff vargs = varargin; nargs = length(vargs); names = vargs(1:2:nargs); values = vargs(2:2:nargs); validnames = {'foo', 'bar', 'baz'}; for name = names validatestring(name{:}, validnames); end % Do something ... foo = strmatch('foo', names); disp(values(foo)) end example('foo', 1:10, 'bar', 'qwerty') It seems that there is a lot of effort involved in extracting the appropriate values (and it still isn't particularly robust again badly specified inputs). Is there a better way of handling these name/value pairs? Are there any helper functions that come with MATLAB to assist?
