  • Open source C compiler in C#?

    I've been getting into compiler creation. I've found some terrific beginner stuff and advanced stuff but nothing in the middle. I've created 3 different simple proof-of-concept compilers for toy languages but I want to expose myself to something real. The most straight forward real language in terms of syntax seems to be C. Since the language I'm most comfortable with right now is C#, I'd love to study the source code of a real non-tutorial C compiler written in C#. Does one (with source code available) exist?

  • Are there any open source SimpleTest Test Cases that test PHP SPL interfaces

    I have quite a few objects in my system that implement the PHP SPL Iterator interface. As I write them I also write tests. I know that writing tests is generally NOT a cut 'n paste job. But, when it comes to testing classes that implement Standard PHP Library interfaces, surely it makes sense to have a few script snippets that can be borrowed and dropped in to a Test class - purely to test that particular interface. It seems sensible to have these publicly available. So, I was wondering if you knew of any?

  • Developer friendly open-source license?

    As a software engineer/programmer myself, I love the possibility to download the code and learn from it. However building software is what brings food to my table. I have doubts regarding the type of license I should use for my own personal projects or when picking up one project to learn from. There are already many questions about licenses on Stackoverflow, but I would like to make this one much more specific. If your main profession and way of living is building software, which type of license do you find more useful for you? And I mean, the license that can benefit you most as a professional because it gives you more freedom to reuse the experience you gain. GPL is a great license to build communities because it forces you to give back your work. However I like BSD licenses because of their extra freedom. I know that if the code I am exploring is BSD licensed, I might be able to expand not only my skills, but also my programmer toolbox. Whenever I am working for a company, I might recall that something similar was done in another project and I will be able to copy or imitate certain part of the code. I know that there are religious wars regarding GPL vs BSD and it is not my intention to start one. Probably many companies already take snipsets from GPL projects anyway. I just want to insist in the factor of professional enrichment. I do not intend to discriminate any license. I said I prefer BSD licenses but I also use Linux because the user base is bigger and also the market demand.

In my web site I query my Blogger account and get blog posts to display on my web site. I am using Google.GData.Client v1.4.0.2 The retrieval works locally (and worked until medium trust was invoked at the ISP).     I'm trying to port some of my c++ code into c. I have the following construct class reader{ private: FILE *fp; alot_of_data data;//updated by read_until() method public: reader(const char*filename) read_until(some conditional dependent on the contents of the file, and the arg supplied) } Im then instantiating hundreds of these object and iterate over them using several 'read_until()' for each file until allfiles is at eof. I'm failing to see any clever way to do this in c, the only solution I can come up with is making an array of FILE pointers, and do the same with all the private member data from my class. But this seems very messy, can I implement the functionality of my class as a function pointer, or anything better, I think I'm missing a fundamental design pattern? The files are way to big to have all in memory, so reading everything from every file is not feasible Thanks

    I want to create a personal digital archive. I want to be able to check digital files (some several years old, some recent, some not yet created) into that archive and have them preserved, along with their metadata such as ctime, atime and mtime. I want to be able to check these files out of that archive, modify their contents and commit the changes back to the archive, while keeping the earlier commits and their metadata intact. I want the archive to be very reliable and secure, and able to be backed up remotely. I want to be able to check files in and out of the archive from PCs running Linux, Mac OS X 10.5+ or Win XP+. I want to be able to check files in and out of the archive from PCs with RAM capacities lower than the size of the files. E.g. I want to be able to check in/out a 13GB file using a PC with 2GB RAM. I thought Subversion could do all this, but apparently it can't. (At least, it couldn't a couple of years ago and as far as I know it still can't; correct me if I'm wrong.) Is there a libre VCS or similar capable of all these things? Thanks for your help.

I don't like the JFileChooser since it opens a small window for browsing through the files of the directories . Can I use something else , instead of the JFileChooser under Java Swing ? I've tried to use elements of SWT but it didn't work , meaning is the use of the button object and then use it inside the Jframe , but that failed , so I guess SWT and Swing don't mix together? The use-case is for when a bug has been found, and corrected, but a single developer who wants to make sure the project manager can see the fix has been done, when it was done and what milestone the fix has been done in. We have a default milestone in trac when creating a ticket, so reflecting that information would be good too.

    If you search for something that opens Preview.app (e.g. a PDF file) in Spotlight, the application not only opens the file but actually copies the Spotlight query into the application's search field (for deeper search). iPhoto and Mail.app also do this. This is a really nice feature. Unfortunately, Apple does not document how it's implemented. Opening a document from Spotlight appears to simply send application:openFile to the application delegate. Is it possible to retrieve the user's Spotlight query somehow? Or is this a hardcoded feature of Spotlight?

  • Keep div:hover open when changing nested select box

    This is an IE-only problem. .toolTip becomes visible when it's parent element is :hovered over. Inside of .toolTip is a select box. When the user opens the select box to make a selection, the parent element is being "un-hovered", if you will. To put it another way, when I try to select something from the dropdown, the whole thing hides itself again. I'm sure it has something to do with the way IE interprets the stylesheet, but I don't know what or where. It should work with C# and self-defined languages.
