  • Shrink Windows OS partition with unmovable files

    - by Tim
I am trying to shink Windows 7 OS partition C: but cannot shrink as much as I plan due to unmovable files. I have tried Windows own defrag tool before but it does not move files that are unmovable. Here are some ideas I have learned from previous posts, and I hope at least one of them will work and wish to know the detail how to do: Inspired by this post, which suggests backup C:, then delete C: , create a smaller partition, and then copy the backup to the smaller partition. I was wondering if anyone here can confirm that Windows 7 will still work in this way? What reliable tools can be used for backuping the system, and deleting and creating partition, and then copying back the backup in this method? I am actually trying another way suggested in this post. I have identified what unmovable file currently stop further shrinking: \ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\00010015.wid::$DATA If I understand correctly, the file belongs to Windows Search. Can I set up somewhere in Windows system settings to temperately eliminate the file and similar ones (because there are many similar files under the same directory which I guess will also stand in the way of shrinking and unmovable by defrag)? Any other idea that might work will also be appreciated. Thanks and regards!

  • PHP error log does not display script names nor does it display the errors' line numbers [migrated]

    - by gnxtech3
I think the title is self-explanatory, and my Google-fu isn't bringing up anything useful. I'm working on a new host, and my php error log only displays the error itself, not which script is the offender, nor which line number the error is occurring on. Makes it a tad difficult to debug, especially since there's only 1 error in the script. More info: I'm not using a custom error handler that I'm aware of. This is a standard Wordpress install. The error was [27-Aug-2012 19:22:36 UTC] PHP NOTICE: Trying to get property of non-object. Just no script name or line number in the error I found that Wordpress' error logging contained the information to debug the problem, but that doesn't explain why the log didn't contain line number or script.

  • VS2010 Assembly Load Error

    - by Nate
I am getting the following error when I try to build an ASP.NET 4 project in Visual Studio 2010: "Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Dev\project\trunk\bin\Elmah.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)". I have verified that the dll does, in fact, exist, and is getting copied to the bin folder correctly. I have also tried removing and then re-adding the reference to the project. The build only fails when I switch the Solution Configuration to "Release". It does not fail when the Solution Configuration is set to "Debug". The only difference between the two configurations (that I know of) is shown in the following Web.config transform, Web.Release.config: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration xmlns:xdt="http://schemas.microsoft.com/XML-Document-Transform"> <connectionStrings> <add name="SqlServer" connectionString="" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" xdt:Transform="SetAttributes" xdt:Locator="Match(name)"/> </connectionStrings> <system.web> <compilation xdt:Transform="RemoveAttributes(debug)" /> <customErrors mode="On" xdt:Transform="Replace"> <error statusCode="404" redirect="lost.htm" /> <error statusCode="500" redirect="uhoh.htm" /> </customErrors> </system.web> </configuration> I have tried using Fusion Log Viewer to track down the assembly binding issue, but it looks like it is finding and loading the assembly correctly. Here is the log: *** Assembly Binder Log Entry (6/8/2010 @ 10:01:54 AM) *** The operation was successful. Bind result: hr = 0x0. The operation completed successfully. Hello everyone, I know that you can access your own application files using NSDocumentDirectory and such, but can you do that on other applications. For example, if I wanted the Documents of another application, would it be possible to get that information? From the iPhone OS Library as directed here. Sincerely, Kevin

  • Basic C++ Header File Question

    - by Vsh3r
Hi, I have a project with two header files mainwindow.h and website.h. I want to access a method from website.cpp from inside mainwindow.cpp. I can access any function from inside mainwindow by doing Window w then doing w-function(); However, when the function finishes from inside the mainwindow the memory for w is erased. How do I keep w around and HOW DO I DECLARE Website w from my header file? Thanks, V$h3r

  • Why touching "d_name" makes calls to readdir() fail?

    - by Sarah Mani
Hi, I'm trying to write a little helper for Windows which eventually will accept a file extension as an argument and return the number of files of that kind in the current directory. To do so, I'm reading the file entries in the directories and after getting the extension I'd like to convert it to lowercase to compare it with the yet-to-add specified argument. When converting the extension to lowercase I found that touching even a duplicate string of the d_name variable will cause a strange behaviour, like no more calls to readdir are called. Here is the code I'm using right now (the commented code is preliminary) and outputs for a given directory: #include <ctype.h> #include <dirent.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> char * strrch(char *string, size_t elements, char character) { char *reverse = string + elements; while (--reverse != string) if (*reverse == character) return reverse; return NULL; } void test(char *string) { // Even being a duplicate will make it fail: char *str = strdup(string); printf("Strings: %s %s\n", string, str); *str = 'a'; printf("Strings: %s %s\n", string, str); //unsigned short int i = 0; //for (; str[i] != '\0', str++; i++) // str[i] = tolower((unsigned char) str[i]); //puts(str); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { DIR *directory; struct dirent *element; if (directory = opendir(".")) { while (element = readdir(directory)) test(strrch(element->d_name, element->d_namlen, '.')); closedir(directory); puts(NULL); } else puts("Couldn't open the directory.\n"); } Output without modifying the duplicate (modification and the second printf call commented): Strings: (null) (null) Strings: . . Strings: .exe .exe Strings: .pdf .pdf Strings: .c .c Strings: .ini .ini Strings: .pdf .pdf Strings: .pdf .pdf Strings: .pdf .pdf Strings: .flac .flac Strings: .FLAC .FLAC Strings: .lnk .lnk Strings: .URL .URL Output of the same directory (with the code above, with the 2 printfs): Strings: (null) (null) Is there anything wrong? Is it a compiler issue? I'm using GCC 4.4.3 in Windows (MinGW) right now. Thank you very much for your help. By the way, is there any other way to work with files and directories in a Windows environment not using the POSIX functions?

  • eclipse serveral ant build file

    - by Alex
Hi, currently I'm developing in eclipse 3.5 in different project web applications for tomcat 6.0.24. For each of this project I have written a ant build file to generate the war file to deploy the project to the tomcat container. So I have to run for each project the ant build file (a lot of clicks, and a waste of time). Question: Is there a possibility to run all needed ant build files with a single click, from a single project or whatever? Best regards, Alex

  • R or Python for file manipulation

    - by danspants
I have 4 reasonably complex r scripts that are used to manipulate csv and xml files. These were created by another department where they work exclusively in r. My understanding is that while r is very fast when dealing with data, it's not really optimised for file manipulation. Can I expect to get significant speed increases by converting these scripts to python? Or is this something of a waste of time?

I have an file input tag in my web app. I'd like to check that the file isn't too big before sending it to the server. Of course, I still have validation server side. Is there any way to do this with JavaScript? It must work in IE7+ and FF3+. Thank you. EDIT: somefileinputobject.files[0].filesize works in FF, but not IE.

  • Implement "Open Containing Folder" and highlight file

    - by chaiguy
This can be a handy functionality to have in a program that works with files/folders. It's easy enough to actually open the containing folder using: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start( *path to folder* ); ...but how do I go about actually selecting the target file within that parent folder? If I use the Process.Start method it actually attempts to open the file.

  • Image upload storage strategies

    - by MatW
When a user uploads an image to my site, the image goes through this process; user uploads pic store pic metadata in db, giving the image a unique id async image processing (thumbnail creation, cropping, etc) all images are stored in the same uploads folder So far the site is pretty small, and there are only ~200,000 images in the uploads directory. I realise I'm nowhere near the physical limit of files within a directory, but this approach clearly won't scale, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on upload / storage strategies for handling large volumes of image uploads.

  • ideas: per-file authentication in order to download

    - by suIIIha
i would love to use mod_xsendfile but i live in a shared environment which does not provide such a module. processing large files such as videos through a server-side script and sending it to the browser that way seems to be unacceptable in my case, so i am looking for a way to enable per-file authentication in such a way that is not going to consume resources much. nobody shall know what the actual path is to the file they are downloading. please suggest how to do that.

  • How to Transfer Large File from MS Word Add-In (VBA) to Web Server?

    - by Ian Robinson
Overview I have a Microsoft Word Add-In, written in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), that compresses a document and all of it's related contents (embedded media) into a zip archive. After creating the zip archive it then turns the file into a byte array and posts it to an ASMX web service. This mostly works. Issues The main issue I have is transferring large files to the web site. I can successfully upload a file that is around 40MB, but not one that is 140MB (timeout/general failure). A secondary issue is that building the byte array in the VBScript Word Add-In can fail by running out of memory on the client machine if the zip archive is too large. Potential Solutions I am considering the following options and am looking for feedback on either option or any other suggestions. Option One Opening a file stream on the client (MS Word VBA) and reading one "chunk" at a time and transmitting to ASMX web service which assembles the "chunks" into a file on the server. This has the benefit of not adding any additional dependencies or components to the application, I would only be modifying existing functionality. (Fewer dependencies is better as this solution should work in a variety of server environments and be relatively easy to set up.) Question: Are there examples of doing this or any recommended techniques (either on the client in VBA or in the web service in C#/VB.NET)? Option Two I understand WCF may provide a solution to the issue of transferring large files by "chunking" or streaming data. However, I am not very familiar with WCF, and am not sure what exactly it is capable of or if I can communicate with a WCF service from VBA. This has the downside of adding another dependency (.NET 3.0). But if using WCF is definitely a better solution I may not mind taking that dependency. Questions: Does WCF reliably support large file transfers of this nature? If so, what does this involve? Any resources or examples? Are you able to call a WCF service from VBA? Any examples?

  • Read a file from line X to line Y ?

    - by thedp
Hello, Is there a way to read a file in PHP5 from line X to line Y into a string, without reading the entire file. I would like to return huge files (10,000+ lines) using ajax requests. Each request will provide the client with additional lines. And due to the fact that the file can reach large sizes, I would like to avoid reading it whole over and over again. Thank you.

  • How to resolve include file names conflicts in GCC?

    - by actual
I have two header files named string.h in different libraries, they are conflicted with each other and even conflicted with standard C include file of the same name. There is no need to use any string.h except standard one, but I need to include libraries headers paths in GCC search path. Currently I use something like -I /usr/local/include/lib1 -I /usr/local/include/lib2, but that way I can not include standard C string.h. What is the right way to resolve such conflicts?

  • ubuntu mount iso but some files are unreadable

    - by Chao
I'm new to Linux and just installed ubuntu 12.04 amd64 this month. I had failed installing Texlive with texlive2012 iso image. I used the recommended command to mount: "mount -t iso9660 -o ro,loop, noauto /your/texlive2012.iso /mnt " But the installer failed to read some file. The iso is fine, I checked the md5. I extracted everything from iso with archive manager, and it installed successfully. So, why mount is not working? Thanks.
