  • Good FORTRAN books/tutorials for beginners?

    - by AndrejaKo
This may be a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31672/learning-fortran-in-the-modern-era, but that thread went on discussing legacy code concerns. Anyway, few months ago in a bookstore sale I picked up book called FORTRAN 66 for PDP-11. I found it interesting and decided it would be nice to learn FORTRAN. So I'm looking for some modern books/tutorials dealing with new versions of FORTRAN.

  • Are there any simple languages implemented using ANTLR or similar?

    - by etheros
I'm trying to build a simple interpreted language for learning purposes. I've read countless theory and tutorials on ANTLR and JavaCC, but I can't figure out how to actually make it do something useful. I learn best by "taking something apart and putting it back together again", so, are there any working examples of simple languages implemented with the help of tools such as ANTLR, or similar? Something like the following might be nice: x = 1 if x == 1 print "true"

  • Recommended reading for bioinformatics

    - by Matt
I'm keen on learning about bioinformatics. I am ideally looking for a short course introduction, with some practical tasks I can get my teeth into immediately to see if there is any interest in it for me. I already have a good understanding of molecular biology, so I should be able to skip most of the foundational work. Any suggestions?

  • Stopping infinite loops of alerts in Mozilla

    - by Christy John
This may be dumb question. But somehow this engaged me for sometime and after some basic research I couldn't find an answer. I was learning JavaScript and a code I wrote had an error and has been outputting infinite loops of alerts. I tried the normal shortcuts like Ctrl + C and Ctrl + Z but they didn't work. So I was thinking if there is any solution to this other than ending the browser process (like by doing a Ctrl + Alt + Del).

Like for example, my daemon program is running in the background, then when I make a keypress event, my deamon app will do something. What implementation should I do to create this app? And how can I check the event of the devices? Thanks.

  • Java Parallel Programming

    - by user578524
Dear All, I need to parallelize a CPU intensive Java application on my multicore desktop but I am not so comfortable with threads programming. I looked at Scala but this would imply learning a new language which is really time consuming. I also looked at Ateji PX Java parallel extensions which seem very easy to use but did not have a chance yet to evaluate it. Would anyone recommend it? Other suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance for your help Bill
