    - by Greg Low
We as an industry have a lot to answer for. One thing is the level of support provided for users. Here's the conversation I'm having with Skype right now. It feels like being in a Monty Python skit. I was really hoping that when Microsoft purchased Skype that things might improve. 8:33:44 PM greglowInitial Question/Comment: Subscriptions (Unlimited Country, Unlimited Europe, Unlimited Region, Unlimited World)8:33:44 PM SystemThank you for contacting Skype Customer Support!8:33:49 PM SystemDonna Faye has joined this session!8:33:50 PM SystemConnected with Donna Faye8:33:50 PM SystemThank you for contacting Skype Customer Support!8:33:54 PM SystemPlease hold for the next available Live Support Agent.8:33:59 PM Donna FayeHello! I did that but the number still expired. Why?8:45:38 PM Donna FayeHowever do not worry on this hence all Online Number are active and not expired.8:45:41 PM greglowWhen I logged on today it said that the number had expired and that I had 52 days left to reactivate it. Why did that happen?8:46:14 PM Donna FayeMay I know the Online Number you are pertaining, please? The number that had expired was (07) XXXX XXXX (Australia)8:49:19 PM Donna FayeOkay, do not worry on this Online Number because this will expire on October XX, 2013.8:49:38 PM Donna FayeThank you for all the information.8:49:46 PM greglowI understand that it won't expire now until next year. I'm trying to understand why it stopped working this time8:49:51 PM greglowso I can avoid that next time8:50:39 PM Donna FayeWhat do yo stop working, you mean that Online Number is unable to be reach out?8:50:59 PM Donna Faye*what do you mean by stop working8:51:18 PM greglowThe Skype number +61 7 XXXX XXXX stopped working because it expired8:51:32 PM Donna FayeNo, this into expired.8:51:34 PM greglowI'm trying to understand why it expired8:51:50 PM greglowSorry I don't follow "this into expired"8:52:39 PM Donna FayeLet me inform you that this Online Number is not expired.8:52:54 PM Donna FayePlease disregard the notification you see on your Skype account.8:53:02 PM greglowSorry, this is getting very frustrating. I already told you I fixed it today. I want to know why it happened.8:53:20 PM Donna FayeHence I can rest assured you that this is active until October XX, 2013.8:53:21 PM greglowSo I can avoid it happening again, on this account, or on our other accounts8:53:34 PM greglowCan I speak to someone who really understands this please?Donna FayeSkype send a notification to Skype users for their Skype product in order for them to be aware the expiration of your product however your Online Number still active on your account hence when your calling subscription Unlimited World recur your Online Number also recur. 8:57:59 PM Donna Faye I do apologize for this matter, please allow me to resolve this issue for you. 9:02:48 PM greglow My question is still the same: if it's set to auto-pay, why did it expire? 9:03:50 PM greglow Why did it stop working? Why did I have to "reactivate" it? 9:04:08 PM greglow Why didn't it just keep working if it's set to auto-pay? 9:04:30 PM greglow This isn't a difficult concept 9:04:34 PM Donna Faye Let me clarify to you that this is not the really expired what is emphasizing on this is when you don't have good enough funding source when you calling subscription recur the Online Number will possibly expired but seem that you have a good funding source then this will continue until 2013. 9:05:10 PM greglow When I logged on today, it was not working, and your website said it had expired and that I had 52 days left to reactivate it 9:05:17 PM greglow Why?and so on, and so on, and so on....

  • Are all "Important security updates", updates to already installed packages?

    - by Omnicomment
I'm running 12.04, and I've never downloaded any drivers for the installation of any peripheral devices. Yet, I noticed a fair few "Important security updates" involving drivers/utilities for HP devices/software. I understand if the default installation of Ubuntu came with a set of drivers for these devices - and the update manager, having noticed that they live on my system, went and found newer versions, but still - given I don't use any devices - I'm either forced to download an irrelevant update, sift through the updates to check applicability, or turn off Update Manager altogether: none of which are desirable. First; the obvious - can someone confirm that the list of "Important security updates" on the server that Update manager connects to, is not actually populated with every patch ever written (i.e. for all Ubuntu packages regardless of whether they're installed or not)? Unlikely, but..

  • No dual boot option, no boot priority order

    - by Atul
I installed Ubuntu yesterday. I partitioned my C: when it was asked to give memory allocation to Ubuntu. The version is 12.04. I was able to install Ubuntu completely: Ubuntu is successfully installed. Restart you computer. I restarted and there was no Ubuntu option. Windows 7 also asked for a boot repair. So I did that too. I then wanted to change my boot priority order to Ubuntu but couldn't find it in BIOS section. I allotted 20GB to Ubuntu and it is deducted from C: but I couldn't see the partitioned drive in Windows 7. Wubi was working fine before on PC with dual boot option. I used Linux Live key creator to boot my PC through pen drive.

  • Ubuntu GUI crash when LightDM enters, unable to login

    - by Cesar
This issue happened spounteniously, i don´t know what could have cause it as i wasn´t using the PC when it happened. I ruled out any messing around with the setting as the user doesn´t know how to enter the BIOS, doesn´t have the sudo password and was only using firefox and libreoffice when it happened. After the plymouth sequence i get this error. https://www.dropbox.com/s/uf1xdkqkw9alvcu/IMAG0252.jpg And this option: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tpivkgjkx2spa3v/IMAG0253.jpg I follow each option and nothing happens after that. The issue persist after rebooting. I choose the other options to see if anything happens, i either get back to option 1 or doesn´t show anything anormal. (I have pictures i someone wants to know) What i found weird is that event though the error is possitioned in the chip, however ubuntu 10.04 and 12.04 run fine in a live CD I saw that some people are having issues when LightDM has a non default wallpaper, but i use a default one. Thanks in advance.

  • Copying logins to another server

    - by DavidWimbush
I'm busy setting up a new server to replace our main live server and part of that is to get the logins copied over. The database users will come over when I restore the databases but I wanted to get the logins they relate to, with the same SIDs, passwords and other properties as they have on the current server. In fact I don't even know the passwords for the logins created by our Sage accounting package - apparently they are generated by the setup using a number of ingredients unique to each installation. I did some Googling and fount this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918992/, which more or less did the trick. It produces a set of CREATE LOGIN statements with the SIDs and hashed passwords. But it didn't include the default language, which can subtly or dramatically alter the behaviour of date-related SQL. So I added that bit and you can help yourself here.

  • Sound unavailable every other session

    - by Oxwivi
On my desktop running Oneiric, sometimes there's no sound at all, but it would work normally at other times. My setup is built ground-up from minimal Ubuntu, but since sounds work fine, at times, I don't think it is a backend dependency issue. When it works, it will play anything from regular audio files and movies to YouTube Flash players. For the record, I installed LXDE with the alsa-base and alsa-utils packages which are the only audio-related dependencies for the lubuntu-desktop. For a while, I also used persistent Oneiric live USB, and do not recall any sound issues. It's one thing to not play sound entirely, but playing sound only under some very unclear circumstances is something else. Please help me diagnose it.
