  Suppose I have a game where there are several predefined constants and charts (a XP chart, cost of goods and so on). Those could be defined at runtime, or load from files at start-up. The question is how should those logic routines access the constants and charts? For example, I could try using global variables, but that cause all classes relying on the variables to be tightly coupled with them.

• Box2D networking

  I am trying to make a simple sync between two box2d rooms, where you can drag boxes using the mouse. So every time player clicks (and holds the mousedown) a box, I try send joint parameters to server, and server sends them to other clients. When mouseup occurs, I send command to delete joint. The problem is that sync breaks too often. • changing the default program when external harddisk is plugged in

  I have updated to ubuntu 11.10. The problem is when I plug in my external harddisk,all the files are trying to get opened with movie player. Also when I click the icon of external harddisk which shows up automatically when we plug in external harddisk in the right side panel, movie player opens up and try to open the files in it. How can I change this default opening program from movie player to file browser. Thanks in earlier.

Open your terminal and type sudo apt-get install v86d Then sudo gedit /etc/default/grub Find this line #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 and chagne for this one (of course choose your resolution) GRUB_GFXMODE=1440x900x24 GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep Save file and type in terminal echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash sudo update-initramfs -u sudo update-grub2 It's worked for me in all Ubuntu versions.   When I press the contacts button it gives me the following error message Unable to open address book This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable.   I have a Linux desktop that I try to keep up to date, although I don't use it a lot. I had it configured with cairo-dock, showing 2x2 workspaces. It's been like this for quite a while. I recently upgraded to 14.04 LTS, and now the switcher only shows a single workspace. I read several posts that talk about similar problems, but I wasn't able to get a viable clue. What can I look at to get some clues?

• Monitor won't enter power save mode

  My LCD monitor won't enter power save mode. I've gone into System ? Preferences ? Screensaver, clicked Power Management, then set Put display to sleep when inactive for: to 10 minutes (for both On AC Power and On Battery Power), but the monitor still doesn't enter power save mode, even after an hour. Anyone have ideas on what to try? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS 64-bit desktop on a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop.

• Nautilus bookmarks and smb shares work with non-root user

  I'm having a problem with Nautilus in Ubuntu 10.10 When I open Nautilus as common user, it shows bookmarks and the bookmarks that point to smb windows shares work fine. However, if I start Nautilus as root, it does not show bookmarks, and if I try to browse a smb share directly (by pressing Ctrl+L and inserting an address like smb://[email protected]/backups/) it doesn't work and gives me an error that it couldn't be found.

  It is Christmas Eve and hopefully you are enjoying the start of an early weekend away from work. This week we have a snowball throwing game for you to try out, so bundle up and get ready to let those snowballs fly! Snowball The object of the game is to use your snowball ammo to harass the drunk businessman and send him flying along distance-wise as far as you can. Simply use your mouse to aim and click the left button to throw snowballs. You can monitor your stats on the silver bar towards the top of the window. The sound can also be disabled if the music is bothering you, but keep in mind that all sound will be disabled if you use the option. Time to get those snowballs flying through the air!! Keep hitting the businessman with your snowballs as you chase after him. Make certain that your aim is good or you will quickly run out of snowballs! You can really get him moving along at a good rate and he can even go high enough in the air to disappear off the screen for a few moments. There is a also chance that your aim will be so wicked with the snowballs that you will literally knock the drunk businessman’s head off! Weird but possible… The game ends when one of these two events occur: 1.) you run out of snowballs or 2.) the businessman literally bounces back at and then drops behind you as seen in the screenshot here. The moment either happens your score will pop up and then you have the opportunity to try again. Have fun! Note: The bounce back event can happen when encountering cars.
