  • SEO Impact of using Responsive Design and the serving of different content on the same URL

    We are currently working on redesigning our site and making it responsive. It is a search intensive site with complex functionality, a lot of search filters and a lot of content. Our mobile versions of certain pages need to hide some functionality (i.e. search filters) that exists in the desktop version and/or content (mainly blocks of text that are not necessary or are increasing page load in mobile devices). My questions is this: does the situation of having the same URL (responsive site) serving slightly different content (text and/or search filters) for certain pages in different devices affect our SEO (SERPs or otherwise)?

  • Entity Framework 4 - Generating Entities based on Views

    Just a quick post regarding a common issue and fix... When attempting to add a view as an entity to your model the EF generator may complain that it is unable to find or infer a primary key on your view. As a result, it will not add it to the model. The quick fix is to add the following to which ever column you wish to be the primary key within your view: ISNLL(TableA.ColumnA, -999) myPrimaryKeyColumnName Adding this will allow the EF generator to infer the primary key and add the view as an entity to your model.

    I am writing a utility that runs on RHEL5 command line. I need my command line options to be simple but powerful. I looked at the various UNIX utilities to get an idea of how simple command line utilities have to be. Do you guys suggest any documents/links that talk about command line etiquette? I am modelling my utility on top of LVM (that's all the info I can give for now). I know it's a software engineering question, but I thought it would be appropriate to post here. Please advise.... PS: I am not asking for details about getopt or command line utility parsers.....

    GeoTools 8.4 was very recently released, according to its active blog, and to celebrate here's a starting point for working with GeoTools on the NetBeans Platform: The sources of the above are below, as a Maven project, so this project can be used in any IDE or command line: http://java.net/projects/nb-api-samples/sources/api-samples/show/versions/7.3/tutorials/geospatial/geotools/MyGeospatialSystem Though quite dated, the GeoTools NetBeans Quick Start is very helpful, especially since it used Maven too, but not the NetBeans Platform, unlike the above sample. From the point of view of NetBeans Platform developers, the GeoTools JMapPane class is very useful, providing the integration point between GeoTools and the rest of the NetBeans Platform application. Being integrated into the NetBeans Platform means that a host of standard features are now available to the GeoTools features, e.g., print functionality, which only requires a runtime dependency on the NetBeans Print API, together with the "print.printable" client property put into constructor of the TopComponent: By the way, I've spent some time now and again being confused about the difference between GeoTools and GeoToolkit.
