  • Need tutorials on Content providers in android

    - by Rahul Varma
Hi folks, I am in desperate need of good tutorials on Content Providers in Android. I have been searching in the web for the tutorials but none could give me a clear idea on how content providers work. I'll be grateful if anyone can provide me with sample codes of the projects that implement content providers...

  • Modifying the Google Drive menu interface

    - by Dangerbunny
So I'm working on a web-app for the Google Marketplace that's going to involve integration with Google Drive. Part of what I want to be able to do with the app involves something along the lines of adding a menu option to the Drive menu interface. For instance, you could be editing a document in drive and browse to File-"My new fancy option." Does anyone know if this is possible? Or if it is not, is there another way of adding this sort of custom action functionality where you are able to perform non Drive standard actions on files from within the Drive interface?

  • What are some reasons that application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method could get skipped?

    - by BeachRunnerJoe
My iPad app was working fine until I opened up IB and started editing the interface. Now, my application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions isn't getting called. I understand it's an optional function and it gets skipped if it doesn't exist, but in my case it does. What are some reasons that application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method could get skipped? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Distinct Value Array for View Controller Index Using Core Data

    - by b.dot
    Hi, I'm trying to create an index representing the first letter value of each record in a Core Data store to be used in a table view controller. I'm using a snippet of the code from Apple's documentation. I would simply like to produce an array or dictionary of distinct values as the result. My store already has the character defined within each record object. Questions: 1) I'm having a problem understanding NSDictionaryResultType. Where does the resulting dictionary object get received so that I can assign it's keys to the view controller? The code seems to only return an array. 2) If I include the line containing NSDictionaryResultType, I get no returns. 3) I realize that I could do this in a loop, but I'm hoping this will work. Thanks! NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"People" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [request setEntity:entity]; [request setResultType:NSDictionaryResultType]; // This line causes no no results. [request setReturnsDistinctResults:YES]; [request setPropertiesToFetch :[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"alphabetIndex"]]; NSError *error; NSArray *objects = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error];

  • Returning NSNull from actionForLayer:forKey

    - by MrHen
If I implement the CALayer delegate method actionForLayer:forKey I can return [NSNull null] to force the CALayer to not animate any changes. Unfortunately, [NSNull null] doesn't implement the CAAction delegate and XCode kicks out the following warning: warning: class 'NSNull' does not implement the 'CAAction' protocol Here is the method code: - (id<CAAction>)actionForLayer:(CALayer *)theLayer forKey:(NSString *)theKey { //This disables the animations when moving things around //Also, don't animate the selection box. It was doing weird things if(undoGroupStarted || theLayer == self.selectionBox) { return [NSNull null]; } else { return nil; } } Am I doing something wrong? Is returning [NSNull null] bad behavior? If so, what is another way to do what I am trying to do here? If not, how do I make the compiler happy?

  • Adding a transparent bitmap to a windows button

    - by cmaughan
It's a while since I've done this, but I'm trying to add a custom button graphic to a windows button, with some transparent areas. I've tried various schemes but can't seem to get the transparent areas to show. Here's my code: hbmpUpDisabled = LoadImage(instance,MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDB_UPARROWDISABLED), IMAGE_BITMAP, 0, 0, LR_DEFAULTSIZE | LR_LOADTRANSPARENT | LR_LOADMAP3DCOLORS ); SendMessage(GetDlgItem(hWndDlg, IDC_MOVEUP),BM_SETIMAGE,(WPARAM)IMAGE_BITMAP,(LPARAM)hbmpUpDisabled); Does anyone notice any problems here? It works if my bitmap is a 1-bit bitmap. I couldn't get a 32 bit bitmap to work, and I'm not sure how to setup a 24 bit or 8 bit bitmap to do it.... I tried a custom 255,0,255 color (which IIRC is a default transparent value), but so far no joy....

  • Automatically determining the size of a UITableViewCell

    - by hanno
I am trying to determine the size of a UITableCellView. The reason being that I am using one class for different orientations and devices. The cell contains one subview that is supposed to fill the entire cell. Right know I'm doing this in the UITableViewCell's init method: if (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad){ //iPad subv = [[OrbitView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(52, 5, 660, 420) ]; }else{ //iPhone subv = [[OrbitView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(15, 5, 290, 200) ]; } Clearly, there must be a better way of doing this, without the magic numbers. How/Where should I set the frame of the subview in the UITableViewCell so that it fills the entire UITableViewCell?

  • build version - iphone app (xcode)

    - by peter61
For one of my applications in xcode, I have the option to build for many different versions ranging from 3.0 to 3.1.3. Now when I make a new application, I only have the option to build this new application for 3.1.3. I can't seem to find where this project setting is. How can I build my application for 3.0? Thanks.

  • Android Load Camera image as Bitmap

    - by GuyNoir
I am using BitmapFactory.decodeFile to load Bitmaps of images into my application. However, the function returns null on large images (such as those from the camera). The filepath is definitely correct, I just can't figure out why it would return null. I tried supersampling, but it didn't seem to help. Does anyone have any idea why it would do this or how I could more easily load images taken from the camera into a Bitmap? Thanks.

  • Cannot play a recorded sound on device.

    - by B_
I'm using the exact code from the iPhone Application Programming Guide Multimedia Support to use AVAudioRecorder to record a file to the disk and then AVAudioPlayer to load and play that file. This is working fine in the simulator but is not working on the device. The file gets loaded (we can see the NSTimeInterval) but does not play (play returns false). After it didn't work with the sample code from the website, we tried changing to a bunch of different codecs with no success. And of course, the sound is on. Thanks a bunch.

  • How can I render an in-memory UIViewController's view Landscape?

    - by Aaron
I'm trying to render an in-memory (but not in hierarchy, yet) UIViewController's view into an in-memory image buffer so I can do some interesting transition animations. However, when I render the UIViewController's view into that buffer, it is always rendering as though the controller is in Portrait orientation, no matter the orientation of the rest of the app. How do I clue this controller in? My code in RootViewController looks like this: MyUIViewController* controller = [[MyUIViewController alloc] init]; int width = self.view.frame.size.width; int height = self.view.frame.size.height; int bitmapBytesPerRow = width * 4; unsigned char *offscreenData = calloc(bitmapBytesPerRow * height, sizeof(unsigned char)); CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); CGContextRef offscreenContext = CGBitmapContextCreate(offscreenData, width, height, 8, bitmapBytesPerRow, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast); CGContextTranslateCTM(offscreenContext, 0.0f, height); CGContextScaleCTM(offscreenContext, 1.0f, -1.0f); [(CALayer*)[controller.view layer] renderInContext:offscreenContext]; At that point, the offscreen memory buffers contents are portrait-oriented, even when the window is in landscape orientation. Ideas?

  • Adding image to navigation bar

    - by 4thSpace
I'd like an image to take up all of a navigation bar. This is the navigation that comes with a navigation based app. It appears on the RootViewController with the accompanying UITableView. I've seen some examples of how this might work. Set navigation bar title: UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"TableviewCellLightBlue.png"]; UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; [self.navigationController.navigationBar.topItem setTitleView:imageView]; The problem there is it only covers the title rather than the entire navigation bar. There is also this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9254241#9254241. Towards the end, the solution looks to use a tab bar, which I'm not using. It is that complicated to set a navigation bar background? Is there some other simpler technique? I'd like to have a background for the navigation and still be able to use title text.

  • How can I consolidate deferred/delayed calls in Objective-C ?

    - by thrusty
    I'd like to ensure that certain maintenance tasks are executed "eventually". For example, after I detect that some resources might no longer be used in a cache, I might call: [self performSelector:@selector(cleanupCache) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.5]; However, there might be numerous places where I detect this, and I don't want to be calling cleanupCache continuously. I'd like to consolidate multiple calls to cleanupCache so that we only periodically get ONE call to cleanupCache. Here's what I've come up with do to this-- is this the best way? [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(cleanupCache) object:nil]; [self performSelector:@selector(cleanupCache) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.5];

  • If statement question iphone?

    - by NextRev
I am creating a game where where you complete shapes and the area gets filled in. However, if there is an enemy bird within your shape, it will not fill in. I want to make it so that if you do trap a bird within your shape, you will lose a life. How can I write an if statement that pretty much says if the below code doesn't take place, then you lose a life. If it helps losing a life is called doDie in my code. -(void)fillMutablePath{ CGPoint movePoint = CGPointFromString([pointsToFillArray objectAtIndex:0]); CGPathMoveToPoint(fillPath, NULL, movePoint.x, movePoint.y); for (int i=0; i<[pointsToFillArray count]; i++) { CGPoint tempPoint = CGPointFromString([pointsToFillArray objectAtIndex:i]); CGPathAddLineToPoint(fillPath, NULL, tempPoint.x, tempPoint.y); } CGContextAddPath(gameViewObj._myContext, fillPath); CGContextFillPath(gameViewObj._myContext); CGPathRelease(fillPath); [pointsToFillArray removeAllObjects]; } if(fillMutablePath doesn't take place when making a shape){ [self doDie]; } Like i said above, the reason fillMutablePath wouldn't take place is because a bird would be trapped within the shape. Any help would be much appreciated!!

  • Why would a "view" object in Interface Builder prevent my didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method from

    - by BeachRunnerJoe
You may have already come across some of my other questions related to question, but I was having an issue with a SplitView iPad app where my application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method stopped executing after I went into Interface Builder and changed around the structure of my apps interface. I couldn't figure out what was preventing my didFinishLauchingWithOptions method from executing, but then I removed a "view" object I had in my view heirarchy (shown below) and suddenly my didFinishLauchingWithOptions method started executing again. I've moved passed it now, but I'm still unclear why that would cause the problem. Any ideas why that "view" object would prevent the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method from executing?

  • How to Invoke iPhone Maps for Directions with Current Location as Start Address

    - by eriaac
Hi all. I know it's possible to start the iPhone maps application by calling openURL on a google maps URL with parameters saddr and daddr with location strings or LatLong (see ex. below), but I'm wondering if it's possible to make the start address be the "Current Location" maps bookmark so that I can use the maps app's location handling code. My Google search has been pretty fruitless. ex: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=%@&daddr=%@", myLatLong, latlong]]]; Except with something to invoke the current location bookmark in place of myLatLong. Thanks!
