  • Switching PHP to FastCGI from mod_php broke AMFPHP

    - by wezzy
Hi, i've just switched my debian server from mod_php to fastcgi following this tutorial everything goes right but now i've found that one of the hosted application that using AMFPHP for flash remoting is broken. I'm trying to understand what's happend. Looking at it with FireBug and FireAMF it seems that the responses has a content but the Flash callbacks never get called and if i try to open the service browser it displays this error: (mx.rpc::Fault)#0 errorID = 0 faultCode = "Client.Error.RequestTimeout" faultDetail = "The request timeout for the sent message was reached without receiving a response from the server." faultString = "Request timed out" message = "faultCode:Client.Error.RequestTimeout faultString:'Request timed out' faultDetail:'The request timeout for the sent message was reached without receiving a response from the server.'" name = "Error" rootCause = (null) It's strange it seems that the server takes a long time to responde, then (in the service browser) flash made a new call to the server and the old one get a response. Some problem with sessions ? Really no idea ....

  • How does Antimalware Doctor infect computers?

    - by Pyrolistical
I didn't do anything stupid like run random .exe or visit questionable websites, but as I was just Googling I get infected by Antimalware Doctor. At that point I just shutdown my computer and reformatted, so I didn't check if I had the latest version of Flash or Firefox. Is it possible to get infected just because I didn't have my Flash newer than 10.1 and some random flash ad infected me? There doesn't seem to be any information on how Antimalware Doctor works asides from how to remove it.

  • Is it a good practice to run identd in 2010?

    - by Alex R
I know in the "old days" it was good practice to shut this off. But nowadays I have heard that it improves deliverability of email. In the old days people were not worried about spam (or having their outbound email rejected), so that made sense. Of course, the question is only relevant to servers that send email. What is the current, common practice among discerning Linux admins? Run identd or leave it off? Thanks

  • Grandma's Computer - Can a user that belongs only to the "Users" group in Windows XP install malware, virus or IE addons?

    - by DanC
I am trying to figure out if having a user in the "Users" group will be enough to prevent her from install unwanted software. The things that I don't want the user to be able to install are: virus malware bandoo stuff Internet Explorer Addons To put you in context, I am thinking of my grandma's computer, I want her to be able to read all her email stuff and attachments, but without the hassle of needing to reinstall the whole computer every few months. The computer will run Windows XP, with some free antivirus. It will not be part of any domain. It is just a home computer. Linux, I have tried making her use it, but she was already accustomed to Windows and was not really an option to have her re-learn where was the shutdown button. So, are these considerations enough to prevent her installing unwanted software? What other options come to you mind? Thanks

  • .htaccess modify rules and redirect if there's .php in the url

    - by Ron
Hello everyone. I got the following code in my .htaccess: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteBase /temp/test/ RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.php -f RewriteRule ^about/(.*)/$ $1.php [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)/download/(.*)/(.*)/(.*)/downloadfile/$ file-download.php?product=$1&version=$2&os=$3&method=$4 [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)/download/(.*)/(.*)/(.*)/$ download-donate.php?product=$1&version=$2&os=$3&method=$4 [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)/download/(.*)/$ download.php?product=$1&version=$2 [L] RewriteRule ^newsletter-confirm/(.*)/$ newsletter-confirm.php?email=$1 [L] RewriteRule ^newsletter-remove/(.*)/$ newsletter-remove.php?email=$1 [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)/screenshots/$ screenshots.php?product=$1 [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)/(.*)/$ products.php?product=$1&page=$2 [L] RewriteRule ^schedule-manager/$ products.php?product=schedule-manager&page=view [L] RewriteRule ^visual-command-line/$ products.php?product=visual-command-line&page=view [L] RewriteRule ^windows-hider/$ products.php?product=windows-hider&page=view [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ $1.php [L] RewriteRule ^products/$ products.php [L] everything work perfect. I would like to know how can I modify it so it will be less lines. I am pretty sure I can atleast remove 4-5 lines, but I dont know how. (merge the schedule-manager, visual-command-line and windows-hider, and some more). I know that the order of the rules is important, this order works - although I have no idea why, I just played with the rules until it worked. If you think that there'll be a bug with the following order please tell me where. Another thing - I would like to redirect for example www.myweb.com/products.php to www.myweb.com/products/ (I mean that the URL in the address bar will change). I dont know if the redirect can go along with my rewrite rules. Thank you.

  • Easy way to deploy PHP sites from git

    - by Leopd
I'm looking for recommendations on how to automate / simplify deployment from a git repository (github) to a hosting service. The hosting service supports FTP (yuck) / SSH / SFTP access. Any good tools out there to give push-button deployment of new revisions? I know it's not a hard script to write, but when you start thinking about things like roll-back and multiple sites, it gets complicated enough that I'd rather not re-invent the wheel.

  • Do I need a hardware firewall for Win 2003?

    - by user531723
We have had a Win 2003 server at a co-lo for a while. It is used as a web server and has a very cheap hardware firewall between it and the internet. Ports 3389 and 80 are the only ones forwarded to the server. I am doing some upgrading and wondering if I really need the firewall. Are there any drawbacks to just using the Win 2003 built in firewall to make sure only traffic on 3389 and 80 get through?

  • Remove values from array on foreach PHP

    - by user104531
I have an array like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( [id] => 68 [type] => onetype [type_id] => 131 [name] => name1 ) [1] => Array ( [id] => 32 [type] => anothertype [type_id] => 101 [name] => name2 ) ) I need to remove some arrays from it if the users has permissions or not to see that kind of type. I am thinking on doing it with a for each, and do the needed ifs inside it to remove or let it as it. My question is: What's the most efficent way to do this? The array will have no more than 100 records. But several users will request it and do the filtering over and over.

  • Beast / CRIME / Beach attack and stopping it

    - by user2143356
I have read so much on all this but not entirely sure I understand what has gone on. Also, is this one, two or three problems? It looks to me like three, but it's all very confusing: Beast CRIME Beach It seems the solution may be to simply not use compression with HTTPS traffic (or is that just on one of them?) I use GZIP compression. Is that okay, or is that part of the problem? I also use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Also, is non-HTTPS traffic okay? So after reading all the theory I just want the solution. I think this may be the solution, but can someone please confirm I have understood everything so I am not likely to suffer from this attack: SOLUTION: Use GZIP compression on HTTP traffic, but don't use any compression on HTTPS traffic

  • Public Wi-Fi and software updates

    - by coding4fun
According to Microsoft, "Never update your software on a public Internet connection." So I have some questions. 1. What if a public Wi-Fi hotspot is the only Internet available, ever? Never update anything? 2. What happens if Windows or some other program is set to update automatically and attempts to do so while you are using a public Wi-Fi? Disable all automatic updates on all software? 3. Will VPN help to secure software updates? If so, how to go about it? Thanks.

  • Ideal permissions scheme for multiple Apache/PHP sites...

    - by Omega
I'm hosting multiple sites from one server where each site has it's own user and www directory in their home dir. Currently our web server runs as user nobody(99). We're noticing that to run several popular scripts and engines, they require write access to their own files. As the home directory is owned by the user, not nobody(99), what is the best policy or change in hosting configuration that would: ...make it so that all the various engines and platforms work? ...still allow us to work with files and edit them without having to diddle with permissions as root? Thanks for the advice!

  • how to actually install PHP etc on a windows 2003 server

    - by user1624421
We're just purchasing a dedicated windows 2003 server (in fact I think it's a VPS) How do we actually go about installing software on to it? Simply searching for "installing PHP5 on windows server" just produces material about installing it as if one had access to the computer with a keyboard and mouse. Am I being thick? I've had experience managing a linux server before but that had everything pre-configured and we accessed it via Web Hosting Manager. I don't get the actual concept of connecting to a remote PC and...downloading files? If there's any good books available please point me in the right direction.

  • PHP / Drupal equivalent of .bat file [closed]

    - by Pamela
I am new to Drupal and have just started in Drupal 7. I have a very simple .bat file that calls a .txt file to open a ftp connection, get a file off the ftp server and place it on my desktop. Now that I know that works.. (YAY!) I need to figure out how to have it done with a cron job in Drupal, save it somewhere so that I can unzip it somehow and then populate a table in the database with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • php mail() function painfully slow on local development machine

    - by Michael B
Background: If you have set up a local apache server for development purposes you may have run into the problem where sendmail takes a long time (at least one minute) to send emails. This is extremely frustrating if you are trying to debug a problem with an email you have generated. There are several forum posts on the internet that discuss this problem. However, none of theme described what to do in enough detail for my limited knowledge. Here are the steps that worked for me: 1) find your hostname (in case you've forgotten it) using this command: :~$ cat /hosts/hostname myhostname 2) edit the file /etc/hosts and make sure the first line is the following: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost myhostname 3) edit the sendmail configuration file ( /etc/mail/sendmail.cf in Ubuntu) and Uncomment the line #O HostsFile=/etc/hosts 4) Restart the computer. The computer should boot up much faster now and the mail() function should return almost immediately. HOWEVER, the emails won't actually be sent unless you follow step 5. 5) You must new use the sendmail '-f' option whenever using the mail function. For example: mail('[email protected]', 'the subject', 'the message', null, '[email protected]'); My question for my fellow serverfaulters is: What further changes can be made so that I don't have to use the sendmail -f option? Although it's not very hard to add the -f option, it is a problem when your CMS (such as Drupal) does not use the -f option when sending mail. You would need to hack a core module to add this option.

  • Realtime website slowness (PHP/MYSQL)

    - by 3s2ng
We got a website with realtime transactions. The past few days we experienced some slowness during a period of time. Usually the slowness last for 5 minutes. And also during the slowness we noticed that sometimes we can not connect to SSH and FTP or sometimes very slow to connect to those services. Currently we are trying to identify the issue. We already setup database monitoring tool. Now are about to signup with pingdom.com My question is. If the website is too slow due to the database (table or row lock) will it affect the other services like SSH and FTP? Does the ping correlates the page load and the connection between my PC and server? Thanks, Mark

  • Editing Neo Slider to move in one direction

    - by user2106416
    I have a website with brandspace theme from pixelentity. Currently, the slider move from right to left ( auto transition) . But, when the slider reaches the last image, it will go back to the first image by making all previous images sliding back from left to right. I want to make the slider to have a normal transition,i.e. going back to first image but still with the image sliding from right to left. Below is the slider.php code.: <?php $t =& peTheme(); ?> <?php list($pid,$conf,$loop) = $t->template->data(); ?> <?php $w = $t->media->width(940); ?> <?php $h = $t->media->height(300); ?> <div class="peSlider peVolo" data-autopause="disabled" data-plugin="<?php echo apply_filters("pe_theme_slider_plugin","peVolo"); ?>" data-controls-arrows="edges-full" data-controls-bullets="disabled" data-icon-font="enabled"> <?php while ($slide =& $loop->next()): ?> <?php $link = empty($slide->link) ? false: $slide->link; ?> <?php $img = $t->image->resizedImg($slide->img,$w,$h); ?> <div data-delay="4" <?php echo $slide->idx == 0 ?
