  • Where to store Android preference keys?

    - by pixel
    When I create preference activity I define all preferences in xml file. Every preference has a key defined in this xml. But when I access preference I write: SharedPreferences appPreferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); boolean foo_value = appPreferences.getBoolean("foo_key_defined_in_xml", false); Is there any way to avoid acessing "foo_key_defined_in_xml" in hard-coded way? Maybe there is a possibility to access it in R style way?

  • How to seperate the model from the view?

    - by geejay
    I have a bunch of model objects. These objects end up being rendered as views (say forms) in a rich client app. I started to annotate the fields in the model objects (Java annotations) with things that let me render them as forms on the fly (e.g displayname, group, page, validvalues). I now realise that the view has crept into the model. How should I seperate the view logic out of the model objects? TECH: Java, Java Annotations, Eclipse RCP

  • Is there a way for a user to disable an AlertDialog completely?

    - by NewGuyChris
    In the app I'm making, I have an "if" statement where if two strings are saved to a certain string, an AlertDialog pops up. These strings will stay the same for some users, thus having this AlertDialog constantly pop up whenever they launch the activity where the ALertDialog is set to appear. Code (I have no setNegativeButton as of yet): private void SetWarning() { AlertDialog.Builder alert = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); alert.setTitle("Warning!"); alert.setMessage(R.string.Warning); alert.setPositiveButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { //No action needed; just close the AlertDialog. } }); alert.show(); } Here is a segment of my code that makes this AlertDialog appear: SharedPreferences sharedPreferences = getSharedPreferences("MY_PREF", MODE_PRIVATE); String s = sharedPreferences2.getString("MEM1", ""); String s2 = sharedPreferences2.getString("MEM2", ""); if(s.equals("String1") && s2.equals("String2")) SetWarning(); Is there a way to make an "alert.setNegativeButton" method where if the user clicks it, the AlertDialog will NEVER appear again? I'm thinking of maybe somehow implementing another SavedPreferences somehow so it saves the users selection and will then prevent the AlertDialog from ever appearing again. So far, to no luck. I've searched to find nothing, other than people asking how to disable buttons in an AlertDialog. Thank you! New updated code: alert.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { //set sharedpreferences boolean called DONTSHOWAGAIN to true; SharedPreferences sharedPreferences2 = getSharedPreferences("MY_PREF", MODE_PRIVATE); Boolean dontShowAgain = sharedPreferences2.getBoolean("dontShowAgain ", false); SharedPreferences.Editor ed = sharedPreferences2.edit(); ed.putBoolean("dontShowAgain", true); ed.commit(); } }); alert.show(); } private void StringWarning() { SharedPreferences sharedPreferences2 = getSharedPreferences("MY_PREF", MODE_PRIVATE); String s = sharedPreferences2.getString("MEM1", ""); String s2 = sharedPreferences2.getString("MEM2", ""); if(s.equals("String1") && s2.equals("String2")){ if(!dontShowAgain){ SetWarningExamConflict(); } }

  • [Android] Show default selection color for custom listview

    - by Diego
    Hello, I have a listview with a custom BaseAdapter. Each row of the listview has a TextView and a CheckBox. The problem is when I click (or touch) any row, the textview foreground becomes gray, instead of the default behavior (background - green, textview foreground - white). Here is the code: row.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" style="@style/layout"> <TextView android:id="@+id/main_lv_item_textView" style="@style/textViewBig" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"/> <CheckBox android:id="@+id/main_lv_item_checkBox" style="@style/checkBox" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentRight="true"/> </RelativeLayout> Custom Adapter: public class CustomAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private List<Profile> profiles; private LayoutInflater inflater; private TextView tvName; private CheckBox cbEnabled; public CustomAdapter(List<Profile> profiles) { this.profiles = profiles; inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); } public int getCount() { return profiles.size(); } public Object getItem(int position) { return profiles.get(position); } public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View row = inflater.inflate(R.layout.main_lv_item, null); final Profile profile = profiles.get(position); tvName = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.main_lv_item_textView); registerForContextMenu(tvName); cbEnabled = (CheckBox) row.findViewById(R.id.main_lv_item_checkBox); tvName.setText(profile.getName()); if (profile.isEnabled()) { cbEnabled.setChecked(true); } tvName.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { Bundle bundle = new Bundle(); bundle.putString(PROFILE_NAME_KEY, profile.getName()); Intent intent = new Intent(context, GuiProfile.class); intent.putExtras(bundle); startActivity(intent); } }); tvName.setOnLongClickListener(new OnLongClickListener() { public boolean onLongClick(View v) { selectedProfileName = ((TextView) v).getText().toString(); return false; } }); cbEnabled.setOnCheckedChangeListener(new CompoundButton.OnCheckedChangeListener() { public void onCheckedChanged(CompoundButton buttonView, boolean isChecked) { if (!profile.isEnabled()) { for (Profile profile : profiles) { if (profile.isEnabled()) { profile.setEnabled(false); Database.getInstance().storeProfile(profile); } } } profile.setEnabled(isChecked); Database.getInstance().storeProfile(profile); updateListView(); } }); return row; } } Any help would be appreciated.

  • jquery in ajax loaded content

    - by Kim Gysen
    My application is supposed to be a single page application and I have the following code that works fine: home.php: <div id="container"> </div> accordion.php: //Click functions: load content $('#parents').click(function(){ //Load parent in container $('#container').load('http://www.blabla.com/entities/parents/parents.php'); }); parents.php: <div class="entity_wrapper"> Some divs and selectors </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ //Some jQuery / javascript }); </script> So the content loads fine, while the scripts dynamically loaded execute fine as well. I apply this system repetitively and it continues to work smoothly. I've seen that there are a lot of frameworks available on SPA's (such as backbone.js) but I don't understand why I need them if this works fine. From the backbone.js website: When working on a web application that involves a lot of JavaScript, one of the first things you learn is to stop tying your data to the DOM. It's all too easy to create JavaScript applications that end up as tangled piles of jQuery selectors and callbacks, all trying frantically to keep data in sync between the HTML UI, your JavaScript logic, and the database on your server. For rich client-side applications, a more structured approach is often helpful. Well, I totally don't have the feeling that I'm going through the stuff they mention. Adding the javascript per page works really well for me. They are html containers with clear scope and the javascript is just related to that part. More over, the front end doesn't do that much, most of the logic is managed based on Ajax calls to external PHP scripts. Sometimes the js can be a bit more extended for some functionalities, but all just loads as smooth in less than a second. If you think that this is bad coding, please tell me why I cannot do this and more importantly, what is the alternative I should apply. At the moment, I really don't see a reason on why I would change this approach as it just works too well. I'm kinda stuck on this question because it just worries me sick as it seems to easy to be true. Why would people go through hard times if it would be as easy as this...

  • Cassandra replication system - how it works

    - by inquisitor
    Does cassandra replicates only on write procedure (with choosen consistency level)? Is there any auto-replicate option for absent nodes, if i want symetric data in every node? If I plug in new node to cluster there is no auto replication - how to sync data from others nodes with new one? If I want replication like multimaster (2 nodes) with slave backup (1 node) known from MySQL, what is the proper logic setup and manage that on cassandra (3 nodes)? How about two nodes?

  • Android - binding to service

    - by tommy
    Hi: I can't seem to get an activity to bind to a service in the same package. The activity looks like this: public class myApp extends TabActivity { static private String TAG = "myApp"; private myService mService = null; private ServiceConnection mServiceConn = new ServiceConnection(){ public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName name, IBinder service) { Log.v(TAG, "Service: " + name + " connected"); mService = ((myService.myBinder)service).getService(); } public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName name) { Log.v(TAG, "Service: " + name + " disconnected"); } }; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); doBind(); Log.i(TAG, "Started (UI Thread)"); // set content setContentView(R.layout.main); Resources res = getResources(); // Resource object to get Drawables TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); // The activity TabHost ... add some tabs here.... tabHost.setCurrentTab(0); } private void doBind(){ Intent i = new Intent(this,myService.class); if( bindService(i, mServiceConn, 0 )){ Log.i(TAG, "Service bound"); } else { Log.e(TAG, "Service not bound"); } } } Then the service: public class myService extends Service { private String TAG = "myService"; private boolean mRunning = false; @Override public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startid) { Log.i(TAG,"Service start"); mRunning = true; Log.d(TAG,"Finished onStartCommand"); return START_STICKY; } /* * Called on service stop */ @Override public void onDestroy(){ Log.i(TAG,"onDestroy"); mRunning = false; super.onDestroy(); } @Override public IBinder onBind(Intent intent) { return mBinder; } boolean isRunning() { return mRunning; } /* * class for binding */ private final IBinder mBinder = new myBinder(); public class myBinder extends Binder { myService getService() { return myService.this; } } } bindService returns true, but onServiceConnection is never called (mService is always null, so I can't do something like mService.isRunning() ) The manifest entry for the service is just: <service android:name=".myService"></service> I was copying the code direct from the Android developers site, but I must have missed something.

  • Can I query inside a SQLite Transaction?

    - by CSharperWithJava
    I'm using the SQLite3 database system in the Android library. I need to execute a query during a transaction to see if there is a similar entry already there. If there is, I have to perform some other logic and adjustments before I add a new row. Can I execute a query within a transaction and get the result back immediately?

  • Unit Testing - Am I doing it right?

    - by baron
    Hi everyone, Basically I have been programing for a little while and after finishing my last project can fully understand how much easier it would have been if I'd have done TDD. I guess I'm still not doing it strictly as I am still writing code then writing a test for it, I don't quite get how the test becomes before the code if you don't know what structures and how your storing data etc... but anyway... Kind of hard to explain but basically lets say for example I have a Fruit objects with properties like id, color and cost. (All stored in textfile ignore completely any database logic etc) FruitID FruitName FruitColor FruitCost 1 Apple Red 1.2 2 Apple Green 1.4 3 Apple HalfHalf 1.5 This is all just for example. But lets say I have this is a collection of Fruit (it's a List<Fruit>) objects in this structure. And my logic will say to reorder the fruitids in the collection if a fruit is deleted (this is just how the solution needs to be). E.g. if 1 is deleted, object 2 takes fruit id 1, object 3 takes fruit id2. Now I want to test the code ive written which does the reordering, etc. How can I set this up to do the test? Here is where I've got so far. Basically I have fruitManager class with all the methods, like deletefruit, etc. It has the list usually but Ive changed hte method to test it so that it accepts a list, and the info on the fruit to delete, then returns the list. Unit-testing wise: Am I basically doing this the right way, or have I got the wrong idea? and then I test deleting different valued objects / datasets to ensure method is working properly. [Test] public void DeleteFruit() { var fruitList = CreateFruitList(); var fm = new FruitManager(); var resultList = fm.DeleteFruitTest("Apple", 2, fruitList); //Assert that fruitobject with x properties is not in list ? how } private static List<Fruit> CreateFruitList() { //Build test data var f01 = new Fruit {Name = "Apple",Id = 1, etc...}; var f02 = new Fruit {Name = "Apple",Id = 2, etc...}; var f03 = new Fruit {Name = "Apple",Id = 3, etc...}; var fruitList = new List<Fruit> {f01, f02, f03}; return fruitList; }

  • mySQL query: How to insert with UNION?

    - by Industrial
    Hi everybody, I am kind of new to mySQL:s union functions, at least when doing inserts with them. I have gotten the following to work based upon a example found on the net: INSERT INTO tableOne(a, b) SELECT a, $var FROM tableOne WHERE b = $var2 UNION ALL SELECT $var,$var Ok, nothing strange about that. But what happens when I want to insert a third value into the database that has nothing to do with the logic of the Select being done? Like : INSERT INTO tableOne(a, b, c ) How could that be done?

  • Question about JSON?

    - by Alex
    Hi all, I have a fairly simple question: In Javascript how can I return the boolean (if its found in the JSON) rather than the actual value? Example: var myJSON = { "foo" : "bar", "bar" : "foo" }; var keyToLookFor = "foo"; var found = myJSON[keyToLookFor]; if (found) { // I know I can test if the string exists in the if } // but is there a way I could just return something like: return found; // instead of testing found in the if statement and then returning true?
